Just recently bought a Bass from here. Staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable. They are very patient as well; as I\u2019m still a beginner player and had never purchased an instrument. Yet the gentleman that helped me was very calm and patient, and very transparent and honest the entire interaction. Would recommend a dozen times over!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A week and a half later, I\u2019m waiting on a repair that was supposed to take two days. They called on the day it was supposed to be done to say they just started working on it. Two days after that they called again to say it will be done in a week (or maybe less) due to a problem with the instrument that requires additional work. Today (a week later) they said it will be ready two weeks from the day I brought it in. While I can\u2019t comment on the quality of the work because I still haven\u2019t received it yet, I am disappointed with the service so far. I dislike dishonesty, excuses, and false promises. I can only hope that my instrument isn\u2019t being butchered. I hope I\u2019ll get it back and be able to add a positive update to this review. Unfortunately since they lied to me, I can\u2019t trust them, so I\u2019ll have to take it somewhere else to get it checked out after I get it back.<\/p>\n

Update: I got the guitar back and had it checked out by a friend\u2019s technician. He said it was in good shape, so I\u2019ve decided to raise my rating by two stars. I won\u2019t forget the bad communication and lack of transparency, so I don\u2019t think I would bring an instrument here for repair a second time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Why would I come here to buy $21 Elixir Strings when I can get them for $10 on Amazon? Are these even elixirs? I am 2nd guessing because the seal was ripped and the bags are crinkled inside. Was looking for a specific pair of drumsticks that I needed. I walked in and took a look at the selection they had, and they didn\u2019t have what I needed. I asked a staff member if they could help me out and he helped me figure out what pair I needed. He happened to be the drum instructor. While trying to find the specific pair, my mother who was with me told me that he made her feel uncomfortable because of the way he acted towards her. When they \u201cordered\u201d it for me and they said it\u2019ll be here in a week.<\/p>\n

One week later, I called to see if it had arrived. They said no. I stopped by the next day to see if it arrived and the same instructor said they\u2019ll stop by tomorrow and pick it up for me. (From whatever warehouse they get their stuff from). The next day, guess what? THEY DIDN\u2019T HAVE IT.<\/p>\n

Unbelievable service. Waste of time and effort. I ended up going to A-Major Music in Gurnee. Trust me, it is worth the drive and they are MUCH more friendlier and helpful there.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Store staff are incompetent. Ordered books and instruments accessories for me but instead of holding behind the counter they just put them on the shelf for others to buy. Waited two weeks and when I got there only one of the three things I ordered was available. There is a reason mom-and-pop shops like this are going out of business. They have no customer service. I live in Indianapolis and was visiting Chicago when I needed a guitar string for my brothers guitar. I stopped in Tobias and told them what my problem was and they had his guitar repaired and ready to play for us in a matter of minutes. \nSo, I am knocking down my review from five stars to three; due to my most recent experience a couple months after the first one. So I reached backout to buy another guitar (place order) as I really wanted an AD22e or another model I can\u2019t remember, but after confirming they could place the order I let them know that I wanted the AD22e and to provide me the full price so we could close the deal and they went silent, mind you I didn\u2019t even get a copy of the receipt from my AD27e that never came which I had also requested from the last conversation.<\/p>\n

I did finally get my guitar ordered but I had a national retailer place the order. I was disappointed I didn\u2019t hear back from Tobias Music about completing the purchase and obtaining a copy of the receipt for my AD27e that never came.<\/p>\n

Just bought an AD27e (Taylor) from them after finding it for sale online. it was a great buying experience. I\u2019m a lefty, buying guitars online is the norm, and most of the time guitars I buy take a day or two to pack and ship. we had a few emails back and forth and they were quick to respond and very professional. These guys had it packed and shipped the same day, and I didn\u2019t place my order until after lunch; that\u2019s service.<\/p>\n

They also took the time to dial the guitar in; it came with the action set and was tuned ready to play out of the box. Paul did a great job and really made this buying experience easy, and hassle free. I\u2019ll have to check back often to see what other lefty guitar they get in. If I have the chance, I will buy from them again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Hold on, this one is a doozy.<\/p>\n

I brought my guitar in for a simple restring and setup last Monday. I had brought the exact same guitar and exact same gauge strings in about six months or so prior and left without any issues and being an overall very satisfied customer.<\/p>\n

This time, however, was a complete 180. Now, I do run a weird gauge setup and have very heavy E, A, and D strings. But like I said, I had absolutely no issues the last time I brought my guitar in. I get my guitar back, get home, and start playing. Right off the bat, my guitar was way out of tune. I didn\u2019t think much of it figuring the strings were probably still needing to stretch. I tried for a solid 30 minutes to get the guitar in tune and just could not get it. No matter what I did there were still a couple strings that just would not get to where they were supposed to be.<\/p>\n

I started playing some more and immediately noticed really bad fret buzz all over the neck. At this point I\u2019m pretty annoyed because this has been a terrible job thus far. I then find that the action is so low that there\u2019s virtually no space between the strings and the first fret. I tried playing some more but the guitar kept coming out of tune. The guitar has locking tuners and I noticed that all the strings are wound multiple times around the post and multiple strings not only had multiple winds, but the winds were overlapping and incredibly sloppy looking. Maybe it\u2019s just me, but I\u2019ve always been told that you don\u2019t need to wind a string on a locking tuner. The strings weren\u2019t wound around the posts the last time I had the restring and setup done.<\/p>\n

At this point I\u2019m pretty upset by the quality of the work done. Just to cover all of my bases, I checked the intonation and boy howdy, it was off by a country mile on every single string.<\/p>\n

So I call to tell these guys what a mess my guitar is and that I\u2019m quite upset with the workmanship performed. They tell me I need to speak with the tech. The tech calls me like an hour to an hour and a half later and I start explaining all of the issues I have with the guitar. I was respectful and courteous but this guy just wasn\u2019t having it. He kept cutting me off and talking over me every time I tried to explain the issues. He really started getting loud when I told him the intonation was off. He basically called me a liar and told me to bring the guitar in so he could check it out and keep it for a day or two to make sure everything was good. With how disrespectful he was, I wasn\u2019t having it. I was willing to let them correct their mistakes without a fuss but now I had had enough.<\/p>\n

I drove up there and simply told the employee that the work performed was atrocious and that the unpleasant phone call I had with the tech was the deal breaker. I told him at this time I just want my money back and that I would be taking my stuff elsewhere from now on. The employee refunded my money without question, so thank you for that, Spencer.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know how long that tech has been working on guitars and I don\u2019t know if he was having a bad day, but you can\u2019t let stuff like that leave the shop. If I did work like that and let it leave, I would be embarrassed. Not only that, but you can\u2019t be so disrespectful to your customers because you don\u2019t believe what they\u2019re saying. Get it together man, this place is gonna lose a lot of business if more people have to deal with what I did.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I bought a new Martin from here and gave detailed specs to setup for their \u201ccertified\u201d guitar tech. The nut action was unplayable. No mention of blemishes on the neck and finish. Won\u2019t return my texts now. Also told me they would ship it out on early dec 20th. Didn\u2019t go out until end of day on December 22nd. I wouldn\u2019t recommend anyone deal with them. I am now sitting on NEW unplayable Martin guitar that isn\u2019t as described. I\u2019m sorry but if their tech is a professional he could simply read feeler gauges. The nut action is .024 on one side and .010 on the other. ?? Have pictures to back all this up as well.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I was given my grandfather space guitar a few years ago. It has been a few decades since it has been maintenanced. I am a very particular person and after seeing the work that these guys do I decided it was best in their hands. They did an exceptional job restoring and get in my bass up to a playable condition. found out they had a used Warwick Thumb bass I was interested in.. Stopped in on a Monday afternoon.. They handed me the bass ..and left me alone to try it out.. DO NOT BRING YOUR INSTRUMENT HERE FOR REPAIRS. Took my son\u2019s alto sax in only to fix the octave key, that\u2019s it. Was serviced by a pleasant lady and was told I\u2019d get a call the next business day with an estimate after inspection. Next day came and went with no call, so I called 2nd day and was given the estimate, told repair would take 2 weeks and authorized the work, and was told I\u2019d be contacted when completed. After 2 1\/2 weeks and no call, I called to check the status. Was told it was still in the shop and would HOPEFULLY be done at the end of the week, which would made 3 weeks total in the shop. The word HOPEFULLY was a trigger word and red flag, so I requested for a guarantee it would be done and the guy on the phone wouldn\u2019t commit to that. After 3 1\/2 weeks and no call, I decide to show up in person to get the status. I was serviced by the original pleasant lady, requested a status, she checked the computer, stated she needed to call up the repair technician for a status, got on the phone with him and acknowledged to him the notes showed they told me it would be done the previous week. He tells her to tell me he will TRY to have it done SOON!!! I immediately said no that\u2019s not good enough and asked for a guaranteed date. She asked if I\u2019d like to speak directly to the repair technician. He commenced to talk about how delicate the repair is and the time. I asked had he even started on it, he said the week after I brought it in (I don\u2019t believe that), then I asked why can\u2019t it be done by the end of that week (the 4th week), and then he starts talking about how many other instruments he has to repair. BINGO, now we get to the real problem, they can\u2019t handle the volume and don\u2019t communicate that to the customers. Then to give them a last shot at my business, I requested for priority to complete my repair (a broken octave key), since it has now been almost 4 weeks and I\u2019m physically standing in the shop. He would NOT commit to giving me priority. TERRIBLE SERVICE and treatment of a customer given the circumstance they created! Immediately I asked if my sax was fully assembled and he answered yes (wait, I thought he started working on it??), and I requested that lady in the shop to go get it. I told the repair tech on the phone I\u2019m taking it home and hung up. The lady came back with my sax, closed out the ticket no charge and I left. Communication, communication, communication\u2026\u2026\u2026they are terrible at this. There was failure at communication at every single interaction with this shop. From not communicating a REAL timeline through the door, from not communicating the real issue with my status, to not making it right. DO NOT TAKE YOUR INSTRUMENT HERE FOR REPAIR. I now see there are other bad reviews for their repair service. I wish I would had saw them before blowing a whole month with them just to still have an unrepaired sax.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I called them and they said they were heading out that week to pick up instruments and once they had it they would refund my two payments. It is now August and I got a third charge. Called them again and was now told I have to fill out some form online or the rep won\u2019t know that he has to pick up the instrument, and that they don\u2019t have the instrument returned. So now I have paid over $52 in fees for a violin I returned, was never told to fill out the form and was promised a refund that now they do not want to honor. They told me the charges will stop once the violin is returned\u2026..I ALREADY RETURNED IT. Just wanted to post an update on the Kallo Bartok I received in January. The tone changes every month. It becomes richer and the overtones on this thing are wonderful. I hate to agree with the user below who complained of a dishonest experience, but we are going through the same. I\u2019ve read all of the other 5 star reviews and notice a pattern: it seems that for violin and stringed instruments, this is a great place. For renting brass\/woodwind instruments via their monopoly with the school districts, they are subpar and dishonest. We should have just purchase a used instrument which would have resulted in us obtaining a superior instrument at, I am not exaggerating, 1\/4 the total cost. We just had to call them to stop processing our credit card when we noticed we had been paying an abnormally long time on my daughter\u2019s VERY USED, VERY DENTED saxophone (4 years!). We were \u201creassured\u201d that, coincidentally, they were just going to call us as well as our payments happened to be completed. Yet they have no records of all the payments that we made, and are asking us to provide payment records going back to 2017 to \u201cprove\u201d how much we have paid in total. Luckily for us, we can easily provide them as they have all been made on the same credit card for years. We are also disputing the amount owed as our daughter\u2019s original \u201cnicer\u201d model saxophone broke, was taken in for repairs, and she was given a loaner, student-model, older and dented sax. Her other one was never repaired and instead she\u2019s just had this one forever. We were told at the time it would be \u201cworked out.\u201d Now they want us to pay the same amount as they were going to charge for the initial instrument to keep this replacement instrument permanently, as they also claim to have NO record that any switch was ever made or that the original saxophone was ever brought in for repairs. Typically, I endeavor to support neighborhood shops, but not when their record keeping is straight out of Mayberry. This is taking a lot of our time and energy to sort out, and we\u2019ve ultimately laid out over $2300 to own an instrument that I have found at multiple music stores online for around $600 and under. We understand that renting the own is typically more expensive, but this feels like being swindled in every way. Extremely disappointed. My husband has been playing music for over 40 years \u2013 he also used to play saxophone \u2013 and his mother is a professional classical musician. He is used to dealing with all sorts of music shops and has never had an experience like this one.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Horrible exeprience. Don\u2019t trust the guitar \u201cluthier\u201d or repair guy whatever you want to call him. Yes this is the guy you charged for the action setup and you dinged and cracked the back of my beautiful OMJM martin guitar. Guitar is priceless to me and it breaks my heart that you can be so careless towards MY beloved instrument. I hate myself for trusting anyone with my guitar.
