When you\u2019ve purchased yourself a new guitar, take some lessons with Skip Newmann! Skip is an incredible instructor, and the one on one learning is sure to advance your skills. My 11 year old started taking lessons about five months ago, and has built a strong set list. He\u2019s learning techniques with picking and strumming; he\u2019s working on tapping and bending; he knows some chords, and Skip introduced him to guitar tab; best of all, he\u2019s having fun. Skip doesn\u2019t teach solely by a book, so you can learn to play that song you\u2019re dreaming of. My son\u2019s rocking out to AC\/DC! You\u2019d be hard pressed to make a better investment.

CK Drum Shop is the best. I am in my mid 60s, and decided to learn drumming \u2018late\u2019 in life. It\u2019s brings a hip upscale feel to rundown downtown Norwich. A very cool and well used small space. The coffee roaster out on the public floor is very impressive. My biggest issue was they didn\u2019t offer french press coffee, though they did offer me a pour over. I found the coffee very underwhelming and I thought watery. Be careful about their rental program. They will tell you that you can use the rental music towards an instrument, but the policy on this is excessively restrictive and limited to very few off-brands. Basically, the rental credit is worthless. If you want rentals, they are OK for that, but it is more or less money out the window. We kept an instrument for much longer than we otherwise would have after knowing that our child was going to stick with it with the plans on trading up. After accruing over $800 in credit, they said we could use it towards 2 different no-name brands or $200 of it towards a name brand instrument (which we ended up buying elsewhere for much less than that). You may be better served to rent briefly and return if your kid sticks with it after their 4 month promotion period, or pick a more local place and feel better about your money staying with local musicians and retailers.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

We never received a call back. When I called today, the woman told me that they ran out of the instrument I ordered and they have no idea when\/if they will get more in. They didn\u2019t call or email me to let me know the instrument was back ordered and THEY STILL CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS for the rental that they didn\u2019t\/couldn\u2019t fill. I never write reviews. I don\u2019t consider it worth my time. Except today.<\/p>\n

Today I had a problem with my podcast set-up and went to this Guitar Center for troubleshooting help. I walk in and head towards the main register and wait around. I\u2019m eventually noticed and a guy from the lessons area asks what I need. He then yells at another kid to help me out.<\/p>\n

This kid is really nice and helps get my rig set up to figure out the issue, but then the first guy (a manager) walks up and very brusquely tells me that he can\u2019t have his guy helping me out when there are other customers around. Like I\u2019m not a customer, right? Like I haven\u2019t spent thousands of dollars at Guitar Center in my lifetime, right? Okay, cool. Probably a stressful time, only two people running the store, I get it.<\/p>\n

Manager guy leaves and the kid is helping me out, grabbing me microphones and stuff to try; later the kid is called away and the manager guy shows up again, asking me what the issue is.<\/p>\n

I try to explain it to him, that my mixer has 4 XLR inputs and one split TRS input; I want to connect a dynamic microphone to the split TRS input and, having done a little research myself, came up with a solution that includes a phantom power unit and in-line booster to help reach proper levels. My problem is that the recording doesn\u2019t come in as stereo. I\u2019m at a loss, I need help.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust buy a mixer with five XLR inputs,\u201d he tells me.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t even know what to say. I had to pause for a second because I honestly didn\u2019t know how to respond to such a insulting answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t you think I\u2019ve thought of that already,\u201d I asked him, annoyed at this point.<\/p>\n

He picks up on my attitude and then says, \u201cAlright boss, pack your bags,\u201d essentially kicking me out of the store.<\/p>\n

How is this not insulting? I understand that troubleshooting isn\u2019t part of your job description, but isn\u2019t helping customers supposed to be a thing? Are you truly that empty of cares to give?<\/p>\n

Anyway, it was always very convenient to have a Guitar Center so close to where I live; after today, I think ordering my things online might be more convenient.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The people here are friendly, knowledgeable, supportive and very helpful. I have been taking bass guitar lessons here and am absolutely amazed with my progress. Besides the one-on-one lessons, I also enjoy their group sessions where we get to learn and practice songs together. I also bought a couple instruments, strings, amplifier and some accessories from them at great prices. If you want to take lessons on any musical instrument, or want to rent or buy any musical instrument, I highly recommend the Music Bureau, conveniently located at Salem Four Corners.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

After looking around to find a good luthier to set up a bass I had purchased I was recommended to reach out to Corey at spindrift guitars. We communicated over the phone to figure out what I needed and set up a time for me to swing by. When I got there Corey took the time to look over the bass and let me know what it needed and that he would be able to take care of it. Corey set up my bass really well and I can\u2019t recommend his services enough. The atmosphere was comforting and inviting and everyone who was there was very nice. Got to talk pedals for a bit and geek out over some of the stuff they had there. I 100% recommend Spindrift Guitars as well as luthier services from Corey. It\u2019s was overall an excellent experience and I will definitely be going back!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I brought in vintage Gibson Les Paul custom for a Re fret and they completely ruined it there was surface scratches ,chips in the fret board the frets were un even and buzzed. After 4 attempts bringing the guitar back to the store with the problems only half way fixed every time or even new problems I just cut my loses and brought my guitar to a real professional if you want it done right I do not recommend bringing your guitar here for major repairs<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I purchased a ply bass that had issues out the door. The geometries where all wrong (e.g., the neck was too thin and was not pitched to the back of the bass) and it had a buzz coming from the fingerboard and bridge setup. They were unable to resolve the buzzing sound and I took it it to a local luthier to have the problem resolved. I ended up donating the bass our school district and purchasing a Shen.
\nAlso do not purchase bows from Upton. I purchased a $2000+ bow made by J.R. Silva, Brazil, which developed a splinter just above the frog within 6 months and Upton would not warrant the bow. I now have a $2000+ paperweight.<\/p>\n

Update, 10\/28\/2023:
\n\u2026 as to your reply, yes, I initially thought this was a great bass until I started using it for rehearsals and the buzzing appeared. I thought it was something I was doing or even due to the new bow. I drove 4 hours one way to your location to have your staff address the buzzing issue and they shaved a high spot on the fingerboard near first position and the buzzing did not appear while I was there. When I returned home and started using the bass again for rehearsals the buzzing reappeared. I wasn\u2019t about to drive an other 8 hours to give your staff a second chance at addressing this. Instead, I took it to a local luthier who fixed the buzzing through a combination of reshaping both the fingerboard and bridge (the bridge was set up for jazz, even though I had told your staff that I play mostly orchestral music). While working on my bass, the luthier pointed out the other issues that I mentioned in my review. I am not a luthier, so I would not have necessarily recognized these issues except that through pro-longed use I might have developed muscular issues.<\/p>\n

It also wasn\u2019t until your staff responded last week that they could not help me with the issues with my bow that I decided to post this. I don\u2019t like to post negative comments, but I wanted to warn other potential customers of my experience. Your staff could not even help with how I might get in touch with Mr. Silva. If you sell someone\u2019s product, I would think you would have some form of contact information. I spent a lot of money on this bow ($2000+) and NO I DID NOT CAUSE THIS SPLINTER TO APPEAR. I do not appreciate you implying so by your comment. Had your staff handled things differently, I would not have posted this review.<\/p>\n

You, as an owner, could have handled this differently as well. You *could* have contacted me by phone about this, instead of responding to my review in the manner that you did, and I might have considered removing this review. You could have even contacted me directly before I posted this review, as several days had lapsed between my speaking with your staff and my posting this review. We decided to leave as of end of 2019 season and will be staying in Mystic for the 2020 season. We hope that the owners can eventually negotiate the sale of this property and let someone with a passion for boating and all things water take over and bring American Wharf back to the prestine marina it once was.

They are both really nice people. We have purchased instruments, books and other items for my kids music classes andboth owners have been very helpful. I needed to get computer microphones needed in order to submit homework online and I went with the idea of purchasing 2. They could have taken advantage of that and wouldn\u2019t have been the wiser but instead, he convinced me that I only needed one. The instruments that we got from them have worked beautifully and we\u2019ve had them for over a year now. Terrible customer service. Took my flute to get repaired and instead of just simply fixing what needed to be done to it I was told I shouldn\u2019t have bought an off brand flute. This was all I could afford at the time (as a teenager). I am looking to invest in a new one but honestly it is no ones job to criticize the instrument I have. I waited for the repair to be done and called 3 different times on it. The repair person got sick which is understandable. When I called the last time they said it was finished and I asked why they never called me to let me know they said that I said I was going to come in regardless. Which is true. My boyfriend\u2019s daughter, grandson and son in law were in town from NH to celebrate her birthday and pregnancy announcement and because it was St Paddy\u2019s Day weekend they wanted to go to an Irish Pub. On Saturday we called and made 5 PM reservations and arrived on-time. The restaurant was fairly empty, so we were seated and ordered within 5 minutes. After we ordered the place began to fill up. We then waited 1 hr and 10 minutes for 5 meals to be delivered and did not even see our waiter for 40 minutes of that time. We had ordered Corned beef & cabbage, a fish entre, a hamburger (no cheese) for the 6 year old, buffalo chicken mac and cheese and one meal I can\u2019t recall. We finally had to ask a waitress at the 50 minute mark to see if she could locate the waiter or the meal. She told our waiter we were looking for an update and he instead went to the table beside us (who arrived 15 minutes after us) to explain where the late meal was. He then came out with luke warm meals (which may have been waiting for a while for him to deliver them), and the wrong meal for the 6 year old. The food WOULD have been good if was hot. We were offered basically a shoulder shrug and limp apology for the late meal and not given any compensation at all. I am so embarrassed that we took them there and it turned out to be such a customer service nightmare\u2026 I had heard other horror stories from my family about service and should have listened! Incidentally the table beside us told us their meal was very late too.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

UPDATE October 5 2018: Richard Caruso promptly called me the day after I posted the review below. He apologized again, and very willingly reimbursed me for my travel expenses. I feel this was the ethical and right thing to do, and am glad that he made things right with me.<\/p>\n

Original review: I flew in from Chicago to try out a Steinway B I had on deposit. The staff knew of my travel plans, and were very hospitable and welcoming. The piano, however, was noticeably out of tune on my arrival. While more accomplished pianists might not have seen that as an issue, it completely stopped me from getting excited about the piano. No sale for them, no new Steinway for me.
\nThey were apologetic and realized their mistake when I pointed this out, but were unable to get the piano tuned while I was there.
\nThis is a shop with perhaps good intentions, but they completely dropped the ball in this instance. I\u2019m writing this review because I don\u2019t want this to happen to anyone else.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I went to their store and also called them multiple times showing interest in one of their pianos. Despite the fact I showed interest and called\/messaged multiple times on a piano, that piano was sold to an online buyer. There was no follow-up or a courtesy call to let me know that the product I was eyeing was gone or was about to be sold.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, I think that they have a good variety and a great knowledge base on pianos. I wish they were a little bit more responsive and courteous as buying a piano is a big purchase and takes time and thought.<\/p>\n

EDIT: After my initial review, Caruso Piano contacted me and let me know that they have not reached out to me due to not getting a piano that was comparable to what I was looking for. Which is understandable. I truly appreciate them reaching out to me. I have to write that I learned a whole lot about piano buying from them when I first went to their store. I wish them good luck and hope they continue to be successful as a local business.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I purchased a used U1 3 years ago from Carusos.<\/p>\n

Please be aware: these are GREY MARKET pianos. They were originally built and sold in the Asian market. You will have proof when you remove the knee board and see the holder for the lease agreement. And due to that fact, the wood of the pianos is dried to standards for Asia. Not the U.S. or Northeast U.S.<\/p>\n

I do like the piano, BUT I and my piano technician are having a heck of a time keeping the damper pedal from squeaking BADLY.<\/p>\n

I had the piano saver system installed almost immediately. It has helped the piano hold tune very well.<\/p>\n

But because this instrument was not built to the specifications of an American instrument (or North America) it is expanding very badly from the humidity.<\/p>\n

I have a dehumidifier in the room with the piano, no heat or doors or windows near it. And I have my technition here AGAIN trying to shave down the knee board to try and eliminate this terrible groan\/squeek.<\/p>\n

My opinion? Buy a piano through a local piano tuner\/technition or through a referral from a tuner tech. If you are going to purchase one of these grey market instruments bring your tuner with you. Pay them for their time and have them tune the instrument you choose BEFORE you give Carusos your money.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Great place to buy vinyl more than fair on prices. Just all around great owner loves his music . My only recommendation is do not talk baseball with danny lol. Parking in back lot he will validate parking for you take first left after shop if heading south on rt.1 then 75 feet on left is parking lot if none out front. Make the trip you wont be sorry.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Stopped in during our trip to Mystic and I\u2019m glad we did! This is a really cool store with great selection. The owner, Dan, is a super cool guy as well. We will definitely be back!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

One morning my wife and I were walking around Mystic on our day off. We happened to stumble upon Mystic Disc which we have never been before. Being a huge Pink Floyd fan, we were searching for that selection. We actually found 6 records that I do not own. I was in such a great mood, finding these felt like I struck gold. Well Dan just opened the shop and we were the first customers in the store. So jokingly I walked up to the counter and said \u201cAny discounts for a first time customer buying more than 5 records?\u201d Clearly it was a joke as I was laughing and chuckling. Dan started getting defensive saying that he had a customer the other day that spent $239 (roughly) and another that spent a $100 and something. Then Dan gets very standoffish and begins a lecture explaining that if I ask for a discount and he says no, then I would think he\u2019s an ***hole, but if he gives me a discount and there are other customers in the store, and they heard he gave me a discount, they would expect a discount as well. I then again told him that I was kidding and we don\u2019t need a discount however, he made it apparent that he was going to because I asked. Dan made the experience for both my wife and I very uncomfortable. He also insinuated that we did not work in retail to understand his justification (there is around 25 years between my wife and I). First off, I would have to know someone well enough to know if they are worthy of the title ***hole. I don\u2019t appreciate Dan making that kind of an assumption, being that he doesn\u2019t know me. I also don\u2019t appreciate that Dan pointed out other customers who have spent more money than what we were going to purchase. That made us feel belittled and not appreciated as a customer. This is not the customer experience I would provide to my customers and we most certainly don\u2019t need to be taught the etiquette of being a customer. Unfortunately we will no longer return to Mystic Disc. We have other record stores that we can shop at that has a kinder atmosphere. It\u2019s too bad it took this one\/first experience to shop elsewhere.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I can\u2019t actually give a star cause the shop wasn\u2019t open. It was supposed to be open but they didn\u2019t ( maybe something happened I don\u2019t know)and neighbors say he comes in when he chooses . So I went to the telegraph in new london.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
