It’s a clean store and it carries a lot of different things I need

Great place great selection. Although many times the cashier takes her time in assisting at the register.

Its dollar general, wear your mask and you’re all good

It appears from the reviews that the first year the store was open it got 5 star reviews but 3 years later it has gone downhill. So much is not in stock and the shelves are in disarray. You can tell when employees care about doing their job or not when no one is facing the shelves or even putting product in correct locations. After finding only half of my simple grocery list I went to the register and waited 5 minutes for a cashier to come out of a backroom. Unfortunately I’ll be making the drive into Green Valley for now on.

Horribly slow lines staff will watch u stand there for minutes before they stop sticking shelves and help ring u up and usually out of what I’m looking to buy

Every time I called the store number no one ever picks up the line they let it ring and ring untill the line disconnects. I lost my bank card was not sure if it was there was last place I used it. But if it had been there I’d never know if they don’t bother to pick up the phone. Also every time I go to the register it seems I looking to find a cashier to ring me up. Seems to me the employees are not really happy with the job or helping the customers. They need a classes for client service training and phone service calls. So no not a great store

One of the worst experiences I have ever had dealing with incompetent employees all the way up to management (heaven) to even cooperate , I’m so thankful I no longer have to deal with any of these people again especially the guitar instructor, I did not appreciate every little comment he made about any of the equipment we brought in to shame my child because the items he brought in were passed down from his grandfather , I also find it way more convenient to order my items on Amazon for a much lower rate and to not have to deal with individuals that are looking to charge me an over priced rate , I gave a small shop a chance to help out locally and all they did was run the “he said she said “ experience, I will not and do not recommend this place to anyone , one of the worst experiences I have ever had at any facility . Good riddance !!!!

I used to be loyal customer for years. Howerver, M&A’s new strategy of “Paperless receipts”, requires that I provide my email address for a purchase. Their “paperless reciept” excuse is nothing more than a strategic excuse to obtain email addresses so they can spam. When I stated I do not provide my email, they refused to sell me a service. I have since found a local music store that is more friendly and will no longer use M&A.

I was very unhappy with the way this store sold us an instrument after we rented one for over two years. We qualified for the rental credit and it was given to us. The problem was that they valued the used rental instrument at $800+ and they sell the same one brand new for about $470. The reason they do that is that there is a clause that states that when using the rental credit one must buy an instrument that cost the same or more than the rental so they jack up the value of the rental. We were told that we couldn’t buy the flute we had been renting and could not get a new flute because it wasn’t equal or more value to the one we had been renting per terms of our agreement. They said that our only option was to purchase a used refurbished flute from the warehouse and it would be sent to us. We feel that this is a very shady way to do business. Not recommended. Updated; Thank you for your reply too, owner of the store. I have already sent an email but thanks for suggesting it.

So I returned to Tucson after 20+ years and a lot has changed. Chicago music store skimmed down from the corner brick and mortar super store to a scaled down Store front and that’s just fine. And the staff pleasant enough.

I was in the market for a telecaster and they had a few that looked promising. I picked one up and reached in my pocket for a pick, and shockingly, had none.

I asked the associate for a pick who said “sorry, no picks are allowed.”

Let that sink in. This wasn’t a vintage, artist owned, custom painted or even an American telecaster. It was a MIM standard and they wouldn’t let me play the guitar with a pick. I laughed at first because I thought he was joking but then I saw they actually had a SIGN stating no picks. They were dead serious and were trying to sell guitars without letting guitarists pick at them.

2 stars for surviving the online wars and guitar center and the nice guy who was embarrassed at this obvious bizarro policy but who tried to sell it to me by telling me I could plug it in to an amp. yeah that’s like trying to sell me a tv with the sound muted. Naw bro, I’m good…

I just moved from Nashville where my local music shop had a 68 Gibson j45 that I played like I owned it because as they said when I first inquired about the guitar and cost (6 grand), “play it. That’s why it’s there.”

Cmon on. You’re damn near a Tucson institution for gear. Policies like that alienate musicians and nothing more. I don’t even wanna know what happens if you wanna try to play the drums… Jazz sticks and a timer no doubt.

Ugh. Someone correct me and tell me that was a prank on me or something dumb they only did for a day….

I’ve never had a store raise its price on an instrument while I was holding it. The owner torn the tag so quickly I almost dropped the guitar. “miss priced” $295 to $795. Repair person joked I should have bought it while I had the chance. Super unprofessional.

Just attempted to trade in a guitar. Strange fellow pretended to go on ebay and lied about the going rate for the same guitar by %50. Offered me less than a third of what Guitar Center offered. I spend alot per year on gear and none of it will go to Chicago Music Store. Liked the store on Speedway but they’re the ones who sent me to this swarmy installation.

I am absolutely incredulous as to how condescendingly I was treated over the phone by this place. I arrived with my Taylor 312-CE looking to trade up and quite likely spend substantial chunk of money. I noticed the posting on the door that read (I may be paraphrasing) “masks required even for those vaccinated.” I have been twice jabbed with Pfizer, but no problem. I get it. I understand it. People may not be fully honest about their status and might contaminate others. I have zero issue complying with the policy The posting also read “do not knock; call to be granted entry” (again, I may be paraphrasing, but this was the gist). I keep a KN-95 with me in the car but couldn’t find it. Maybe it fell behind the seat or something. I ring their number. A woman answers. Convo goes like this: “Hi, I noticed you require masks even for the vaxxed, which I am fully, but I can’t seem to find mine here in my car….I’m here outside….do you happen to have any masks there inside the store that you could pass out to me”? (like logical, sensible merchants across town, the state, the country have in abundance in case you forgot or can’t find yours—sterile ones for the taking in boxes) “If not, I don’t live too far. I can run home, grab one and come back”. The woman on the phone raises her voice and says “NO YOU NEED TO WEAR A MASK” and abruptly hangs up!! Um, I think I got that part and more than amply communicated it back. Wow. And delivered with a tone of voice akin to Mrs. Gulch from Wizard of Oz. I was perfectly polite, acknowledged the policy and was willing to go out of my way to comply. This is not only ridiculously bad policy, but there was not even basic intelligible, lucid communication on her part. Not the conduct of a sound minded individual.

Now, for some background. I have never made any major purchases at Folk Shop. However, I have patronized them over years–even before I moved to Tucson. The first time, I was recording an album visiting from Austin in 2014 and needed a dobro capo. The engineer called around to Guitar Center and few other places. They didn’t even know what a dobro was, much less a dobro capo. Folk Shop to the rescue with a Paul Beard capo, just like the one I had forgotten and left back in TX! I’ve been there since for strings, straps, stainless steel slides etc. Never ever the slightest of problems. What happened today is totally inexcusable. I myself have been fastidious and a stickler about masking and distancing throughout the pandemic, but this kind of post-mandate fanaticism, illogic and outright meanness is beyond the pale. They certainly don’t want my money or any of my future business. To hell with this place. l’ll buy a guitar from Musician’s Friend before stepping foot in there, even though I prefer to shop locally.

Well, over the years I’ve bought, sold, and traded with Paul and really wouldn’t do so again. The last guitar I purchased there had broken tuner barrels and more important, his pricing and moods vary wildly. Certainly lots to look at, but no great shakes in terms of quality or pricing.

Very rude disrespectful because I was asking for a part and I didn’t have a mask and I wasn’t trying to go in the place without permission and they were just very rude very very rude and I didn’t understand I was thrown off by it. Yelling at me for no reason all I wanted was a part I didn’t even try to go into shop told her I’d wait outside because I didn’t have a mask she slams door in my face. So I go get a mask and they won’t even deal with me I was the up most respectful and didn’t deserve that. Very very rude!!! I’ll never do business with them again.

You need an appointment to go in the store. Drove all this way and was turned away. The person at the door had zero customer service. On my visit I was not allowed to go into the Recording/Keyboard room. Sign on the door said I could not go in without an employee present. That made me feel a little odd. Then I was told no one was available to accompany me into the room. So, I was like….so I can’t go in there? The guy just disappeared without saying anything. I had my son with me so we walked around and finally a dude came out and said he would go in the room with us. He unlocked the door, followed us around and basically was glued to my side the whole time. He wasn’t rude, he was just “in the way” in a uncomfortable sense. He said we could not audition the KRK 12 Sub, something about someone was out for lunch and we had to wait till he came back…sounded made up to me. Second visit. The room was open. Again I was interested in listening to the sub but was told they didn’t have any input source to play through it. I was like…OK. I sheepishly offered to use my cell phone as an input device while he mumbled something about using a keyboard but then he never did it. Then he started saying I better have a really big room for “that”. Like he didn’t think I should buy it LOL The store seems cool but I don’t think they want to be bothered too much. I probably won’t go back for any big purchases, just for little stuff, in and out. They have a nice selection. They have really good reviews too, I don’t get it….

Im not really sure how long Guitar Centers have been around since I first stepped into one for the first time in Phoenix, Az. It had now been perhaps over 30 yrs ago from my visit today to their Tucson location. The sign and the over all lay out look familiar, from the wall displays of entries to acoustics and all the ‘little things” in between, I felt like I knew where everything was. The irony was my first visi t I had brought my 7 year old son with me and today 30 yrs later he brought me with him and his younger brother who both enjoy there visits as they showed me around the store, picking up random guitars and picking out a riff or two and tapping on the drum setups. I was impressed with the quality and pricing of many of the new names in the business as well as the legendary makers such as Gibson, Martin, Gretch and Fender. Yes, we did make contribution purchases today and hope to back again..where ever we are. Thank you, GC

It feels like this location is going out of business. The walls are pretty bare and the employees blame it on covid even though other GC locations have no issues obtaining stock. The acoustic room literally had 3 guitars for purchase. There were more customer repairs hanging on the wall than guitars for sale. Even though the guitars were locked, I would not want my guitar hanging on the wall for customers to finger. For that matter, all guitars here seem to be locked down. Best pass this location by.

The guitar technician is one of the worst I’ve encountered in the many years I’ve been playing guitar. He was VERY rough with a 1300 dollar guitar. In his haste and carelessness he damaged a flamed maple top. He shrugged his shoulders and said, “that is what happens when you work on a guitar”. I can’t imagine the damage he creates behind customer’s backs. His methods of examination and his repair knowledge was at a staggering incompetent level. I DO NOT RECOMMEND going to this technician. Don’t know his name. Just best to stay clear from any tech from the store on speedway.

I moved down here at the request of the owner with a very small incentive, the very least he could do. During my tenure, I learned he does not pay employee taxes… I also learned that he was spying on me in his adjacent office via webcam…I have reason to believe he was instrumental in my being robbed of $40,000 worth of My personal music gear As I was informed by my girl that he was present in my home when I wasn’t, as was Sam. I should add that Sam That does repairs repeatedly did substandard work when it came to setting up action and truss adjustments which I had to rectify myself. I gave my all to help them build a business and brought Sam in who ultimately stabbed me in the back which caused me to lose all respect for him. I gave them one star because there was no lower rating available. I strongly discourage any self-respecting or serious musicians from doing business with them…(I should also add that in the 2 years since I’ve severed ties completely with Ken, he has persisted in making snide comments in an attempt to berate and mock me to a ridiculously immature end… He once was a friend, but his recent insinuations reveal his true character. Paybacks are not my thing, but in this case it is more than warranted. Let the chips fall where they may, this is your doing for A. the above treatment of me, and B. continuing to use My name in a derogatory fashion and mocking me in your posts. I would recommend Milano music in Mesa, they have a fantastic luthier and repair shop. They are top notch.

(In response to Ken’s response )As for the response by Ken himself saying if he sued me for libel he would win, that is a ridiculous response. A review be it good or bad is entirely reasonable for somebody to post publicly based on their experience with the business in question, and bad behavior does not get rewarded. These are my feelings and thoughts and people can judge based on their own thoughts and feelings. Had I not been treated this way, this review would not exist but it does because it’s true.

You take the good with the bad Ken, and it appears here that your own truth is a bitter pill for you to swallow. Nevertheless, I have to forgive you for this all and that isn’t for you, it’s for me. I edited the review for more concise content when I cooled off a bit after reading your “Post James” comment.

I would have loved nothing more than for this to have been a positive experience, but it wasn’t. I was thrown under the bus by you in such a disrespectful way that nothing is reconcilable outside of my forgiving you and that is for my own serenity and well being. Lesson learned.

If you are any type of guitarist, you know that finding a tech that knows what they are doing is difficult. Stop looking. Brendan knows his stuff through and through. I have been coming to this music store for years since I was a child. I know that their prices are higher than ordering online, but I’ve still paid their higher prices to support them. Today I came in with a question about how to get a simple cleaning rag, which was stuck, out of an instrument. Good selection, but weird atmosphere and left me feeling unwelcome. One might think such a ‘high’ tier guitar store would offer a ‘high’ tier experience, but that wasn’t the case for me. When I first entered the building I was met by a few older customers and employees and got nothing but a sour face by everyone just by opening the door, no greeting, nothing- super awkward, everybody literally stopped talking to look at me with an irritated look, as if I had interrupted something. I then had to excuse myself past the small gathering of what looked like employees talking to customers that wouldn’t move just to get to the first guitar room. I then was greeted by a salesman who instead of letting me tell him what I’m looking for, proceeds to go into a shpeel on all the different Martin models, basically making me interrupt him to tell what I’m looking for. The salesman also told me HD28s don’t come with dot inlays yet here I am looking at older models with them all over the internet. There was nobody else browsing the store in the guitar sections. I was then told I could play guitars, but the adjacent rooms are used for things like Banjo, which made it so I couldn’t even hear the guitars I was trying to play because somebody was in there clawing away. I really don’t think I’ll be visiting again, regardless of the selection. I’ll spend thousands of dollars somewhere else that takes every customer seriously. I went to Milano music right after and was treated respectfully and seriously without hesitation, and I didn’t need to schedule a high-pressure sales pitch and waste an hour of my time.

Very unfortunate visit, coming in to try out and buy a steel string guitar. We were greeted with passive aggressiveness and a magazine thrown across the main entrance before entering the guitar room from the shop keeper, young guy. incredibly rude and 0 customer service.

Made the whole stay unpleasant.

Difficult!!!

While the in-store staff are friendly and you shouldn’t have high expectations because this is generally a company designed for beginner instruments for young children, I was less than impressed across the board.

The “brand new” trumpet we rented had to be repaired within just a few weeks and it was replaced with another “brand new” product. That is just the beginning of the issue.

I knew my card was set to expire and it had been compromised so I replaced it. When I tried to go in store to change the card on file, just as I had done to set it up, I was told I’d have to call customer service directly. I got a letter a short time later asking me to provide all of my card information on the piece of paper and mail it back to the company. Due to security issues and having just had my card compromised I opted not to go down that path. I even attempted to reach out to the company through email and got no response. I later got an automated message from the company closer to the due date and it told me to call a customer service line. I went online and located the number and called the customer service. It was clearly an out of the country representative who assured me multiple times that the only way to provide the card information was to give it to her verbally and she promised it would be secure. I asked about an online account set up so it could be done electronically and was told this was not a feature of the company at this time.

I understand this is a smaller company designed for equipment rental but if I can set up a rental in store with my card I don’t understand why I can’t update it there. Additionally there didn’t seem to be a lot of consideration for security of financial information as the only option is to do it over the phone verbally. This is not a bad company and the staff in store tend to be nice but it’s not a quality instrument, the instrument itself is overpriced if you want to buy out and they don’t seem to consider the security implications for financial records. Accordingly at the end of this rental year / school year we are likely moving to a different company.

I called today (Saturday) and was told by an employee that they have a “skeleton” staff and no one available to sell me retail woodwind products. She went on to explain to me that Milano’s “just hires high school students” and that I should call back on a weekday. “She just does polishing.” Unbelievably, I was actually transferred to her department (repairs?). She was unwilling to tell me her name when I requested a manager and told me there were none available on a weekend before hanging up on me.

I called back directly and requested a manager. I was then transferred to the woodwind department instead and told no manager was available. Jessica (department manager) was helping a customer. I suggested that Jessica must answer to someone and that I was looking for that person, not Jessica. After 5 minutes on hold, I spoke to Josh (who is supposedly in charge of multiple departments). He was polite and listened to my complaint about being hung up on by someone who was oblivious or ignorant to my requests. He was unable to assist me either but directed me to one of their “clarinet specialists.” After almost a half an hour I was able to find out that they didn’t stock the item I wanted or something similar (to be fair it was a long shot they would).

Unfortunately, this isn’t my first issue with Milano’s Music. The sad truth is that I’ve tried to do business with this store on multiple occasions because I like to shop locally. I purchased a clarinet case from them one time in the past and was satisfied with the purchase but almost every other time I’ve been frustrated by their lack of customer service and/or product knowledge. IT IS A SHAME! They have quality items in stock and a good selection. They have several knowledgeable staff members. The real challenge is identifying to whom you need to speak and getting access to them. If you do business with Milano’s and are willing to navigate the hurdles then, IMHO, your best option is to arrive in person and be persistent. I just don’t want to put in that much effort unless it is a big purchase and then I would want better service. I’ll give them two stars because of the selection and quality of the product but am torn between that and only one star because of the frustration, inconsistency and lack of service. I sometimes wonder why I keep trying but local businesses, especially music stores, are becoming more rare. I just wish this one were better run. These problems have been present for the past 7 years I’ve done or tried to do business with them and are persistent despite changes in staff. I can only deduce that it is a top down issue.

Walked in yesterday carrying my daughter’s violin in the case. Her music teacher referred us to Milano to repair/replace the fine tuners. The first question I was asked from this young lady at the front is whether or not I bought it from Amazon. I told her I did. She said they can’t work on these because the parts they use are not compatible with the violin’s sold on Amazon. She continued by saying that these violins on amazon use whatever scrap parts they find to build these violins. Now this conversation took place without her even looking at the case I was carrying let alone the violin inside. Sure there are $60 violins on Amazon. But there are also $2000+ violins on there too. Hec, a good sales person would have at least attempted to help, maybe even have me consider buying something from there. But I was completely turned off by the snobby attitude.

I was waiting in line for a rental for about 20 min given it is a busy time of the year but everyone who walked up after me got attended to first. Just seemed very selective which rubbed me the wrong way.

Excellent local shop for music gear. They have classrooms for lessons too, but we haven’t used them for lessons yet. Our son found a perfect Ukulele here, the owner spent over an hour helping him shop, try them out and educate him on the quality options. Husband wife owners are really cool and you don’t feel like a duufus checking stuff out like at guitar center.

I was so relieved when we went to rent an instrument here. Prices were more reasonable than other places. Customer service was above and beyond! They really do care about pleasing everyone in there. They were so busy but they still took the time to greet and acknowledge everyone who came in and still had patience with the customer they were helping. Coming here for everything from now on!

Very nice family-owned music store. In the days of big box retailers dominating the market, it is refreshing to have a local option like this to support. Stopped in there this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. The store is well organized and laid out well. Staff was friendly and helpful without being pushy. The owner even spent a fair amount of time talking with us. I will be back for sure.

Good music store for those looking for something specific…not much to look at for those who want to look around or window shop (especially for drum equip). First off, I want to be upfront, I intended to rent a bell kit form this store for my 5th grade daughter. I didn’t get that far, so I think it’s only fair to disclose, this review is entirely based on my first impression.

Friday I spoke to a woman on the phone who was very helpful. I ended up reserving the bell kit online to pick up at the store on Saturday. I’ll admit I never checked their closing time and I, unfortunately, arrived in their parking lot on Saturday at 5:03PM. They closed at 5:00PM. I have my very excited 5th grader in the car, so I thought, I’m not going to give up, yet. There were customers still exiting the store. I grabbed the door and went in as one of them exited. I went to the checkout counter where I explained my situation briefly to the man still checking customers out. He made it seem like it was something they could possibly do, until a woman walked up and immediately shut it down. She explained they could not check me out today and I would have to come back on Monday when they opened at 10:00AM. Again, I want to be clear, it was my fault for being late. They had already closed. I completely understand why they shouldn’t have to help me out, but they were clearly still checking people out, so the registers weren’t closed. All I’m saying is, how nice would that have been if they did help. It would have been a really nice gesture that could have gone a long way. I still have two more kids coming up behind my 5th grader that will most likely want to be in their 5th grade band, too. Plus, I’m a mom and mom’s talk. I would have definitely spread the word about a place that went out of their way to help me. It’s a shame. I’m all about supporting family owned businesses. They are usually the ones that make these types of exceptions for people.

My son wanted to buy from a local shop. He spent $400 of his own money on a used guitar, new amp and cord. The cord tip broke off in the amp input 3 weeks after purchase ruining the cord and amp. My son attempted to get a replacement with his receipt in hand and was told he would need to pay for the repair of the amp. When I called and spoke to the owner Bruce I encountered an arrogant and condescending man with little to no concern for the customer. Instead he proceeded to blame my son for the faulty cord and infer that the damage was caused by something he did. Mind you he has played on entry level equipment for years and never had a single issue. We also had an independent professional agree that the cord was faulty and caused the damage to the amp input. Regardless Bruce repeatedly told me something was fishy, that 2 plus 2 told him something else happened, that he had been in business for 43 years and I didn’t know anything and took the Lords name in vain time after time during our conversation. When I told him it was unfortunate that he wouldn’t correct the issue he told me I would be blackmailing him if a bad review was left. Sorry Bruce but their were no threats made, only a customer wanting others not to have their hard earned money thrown away. Be a professional. Based on some of the other reviews I have looked at it appears we are not the first, second or even third customers treated this way. When he continued to argue and obsess that he would dispute a review and it was apparent nothing else mattered I hung up. No amount of logic would change this mans mind. Fortunately we know the truth and he can convince himself otherwise all he wants. Their are plenty of local shops lile Milanos and corporate shops like Guitar Center who appreciate the business and know the value of a loyal customer!

I had heard so many good things about this place from other musicians, so my S/O and I decided to try it out. We needed our guitars set up, mine electric, hers acoustic. When we brought the guitars in, we were given a sort of turned up nose treatment when we revealed our guitars. Mine a Purple Paul Reed Smith Custom 24, and hers an older blue Ibanez acoustic. Granted our guitars weren’t the most expensive, but we both loved them dearly (Mine was an anniversary present from her, and hers was her first guitar ever). I explained to the gentleman behind the counter what was going on with my guitar (Dead fret on the high E, also needing a full set up, action lowered, set up with 10’s.). My S/O explained that hers needed a set up as well. We handed over our guitars, and left with confidence.

A few days later we picked our guitars up, and went home to check them out. It. Was. Terrible. They raised the action on my PRS so high that it was almost unplayable, and the gentleman who did the set up said that he did so to get rid of the aforementioned dead fret, even though I gave express permission to do whatever was necessary to solve the issue while keeping the action LOW. That could have meant a level, crown, polish, replacement etc. Anything to keep the action low. My girlfriends acoustic buzzed so terribly on every single fret on the top three strings after we took it in, she has resorted to buying a brand new acoustic, because this place left hers unplayable. Now most people might say ”well if they messed up, take it back and have them fix it” but believe me when I say that when we saw the condition of our instruments, I would NEVER trust them in the hands of this place again. I really wanted to like this place, but after the treatment we and our instruments received, we’ll go elsewhere. Please stay away for your own good.
