Son is getting guitar lessons here on Saturdays. Chris is very patient and an excellent instructor. As for the facility….Great selection lots of staff on hand knowledgeable staff doing repair work, sales and very laid back no pressure make yourself @ home style.
My son takes drum lessons there and loves it!!! Very knowledgeable about music.
I brought my daughters here, ones in high school and has been playing for a while and one is going into middle school and just beginning. While I would give the guys more stars they were amazing!! They had great service and went the extra mile to make sure my daughters were comfortable especially my new band student who is playing sax!!
The reason why I gave the music store 3 stars was because of the woman who works there. She comes off as pushy, bossy and gets really into peoples private business.. She had me really mad the day I went there.. I feel for the men who work there.
Very friendly staff!
Had to make a quick stop to grab a few things. I know it was closing time. I was trying to make it quick. When they started harassing my husband reminding him when they close he left and we took our business somewhere else. Customers want to feel welcomed, not reminded how unfortunate you are to have to lock the door right at 5:00.
The customer service is awful I definitely won’t be back there every again
3. Music Authority Inc
Address: 123 Merchants Square, Cumming, GA 30040 , Amés , Georgia , United States
I like to thank Music Authority staff and instructors for all the hard work and patience working with kids. Everyone at the facility / store is so pleasant and welcoming!
Following is from my daughter:
“Just like her lessons at Music Authority, Ms. Carmen is very adaptable on virtual lessons. My viola lessons are still enjoyable and effective as she remains patient and engaging!
10/10 would recommend”
Andrew is a wonderful instructor who is just as capable of discussing advanced music theory as he is where to put your fingers on the guitar strings. I am a senior medium advanced guitarist looking to improve and learn new techniques. Doesn’t waste your time picking out tunes from YouTube, but shows how to play all material better with improved methods.
Wonderful atmosphere for taking music lessons, but most importantly putting your music skills into practice with a band. There are various opportunities for performances throughout the year to work collaboratively with a band. The instructors and staff are encouraging and help you reach your musical goals. Music Authority gives back to the community and encourages their students to do the same. Lessons are affordable and a good investment toward gaining musical skills. From no experience, to experienced – they have instructors to fit the bill for your needs! I highly recommend you support a local business for your music lessons and purchase of musical instruments!
I was referred to Music Authority after moving to the area and wanting to continue with my music lessons. I was a little skeptical when I arrived as I’m used to larger big box music stores like Sam Ash and Guitar Center. 2 years later I’m still a happy customer. They have great instructors all with degrees in music and actively play in places of worship and/or gig professionally which was important to me. The staff is courteous and helpful and keeps me informed on what’s happening. They do have a retail merchandise space in the front of the store that offers what I’d call a light to medium selection of quality guitars, amps, drums and equipment/accessories (NOTE: no DJ/lighting equipment, keyboards, recording or HS band equipment here). It’s very convenient after a lesson to shop and pick up those must haves. I’ve bought many things including a guitar that I’m very happy with. They’re knowledgeable, stand by their merchandise and even offer special incentives that the larger stores don’t. They have a repair and service shop that I’ve yet to use but would if needed. Don’t let me forget all the things this place does for young musicians like summer rock camps, concerts, jam nights, open mic nights and more. I wish I had access to a music organization like this one when I was a kid… I’d be a better musician today if I did. Yes, I recommend this place.
My 10 yr old daughter and I take piano lessons at Music Authority. Our instructor, Brooke, along with a lot of practice, has taken us from zero musical experience to reading and playing the piano in a few short months.
We enjoy the lessons each week and we learn something at each one. Our instructor is a gifted teacher. She changes up the lesson plans so throughout our lsns, and at home practice, we learn music theory, practice skills exercises, and learn songs. It pushes us to go further but doesn’t overwhelm.
If your looking to learn an instrument or two, this is a good place to start. Music camps and performances are offered as well. You can get as involved as you want.
Mr.Mark is my son’s Piano teacher and my son enjoys his piano lessons.
Over priced compared to a lot of other music stores in the area. Only worth it if you are in a pinch.
baD
Very unfriendly if you can’t use the exact terms correctly,
4. Sam Ash Music Stores
Address: 2999 Cobb Pkwy, Atlanta, GA 30339 , Amés , Georgia , United States
I’ve been a customer of Mike in drums for years now. He’s always a pleasure to work with and has gone “over and above” in all of our dealings. He definitely rocks!
The Manager Micheal went out if his way to help me. I bought a mic and cord from a Indianapolis Sam Ash store. the sold me the wrong cable.I lost my receipt and The manager was able to pull up my info and Gave me the right cable.
Great experience, I called to make sure they had a certain guitar in the store and received great customer service over the phone and in store when I arrived. Would recommend over places like guitar center and other large chains.
This was my first time going in there. Positive experience overall. I’m not sure if the instrument I got is considered new or what but it looks used to me. Anyway, they’re close to my house so I figured I’d try them versus some further away one in Atlanta traffic. They offer a maintenance plan in case something breaks or just for routine maintenance in the instrument.
Great staff, the latest gear and now with staged performances by local musicians! What a treat that is!
The store was awesome employees are friendly ” not bullies” they would leave you alone but be around … they got a good variety… but there was a kid maybe about 10 being annoying as hell.. using the store as a playground and he even get to use a trumpet as a toy!! we was there for about 2 hours and I was ready to smack it and ask him about his parents…
Returned an item but over a week later, the charge (almost $2000) is still on my credit card.
Friendly staff, but they give you next to nothing for your instruments.
Some of the equipment my son was trying were not functional. Some of the workers present were not engaging. I won’t be going back.
5. Atlanta Musicians Exchange
Address: 2619 Lawrenceville Hwy, Decatur, GA 30033 , Amés , Georgia , United States
I very highly recommend Atlanta Musicians Exchange. I took in a vintage Ludwig Acrolite snare drum I bought on ebay that needed repair and cleaning. I received excellent service at a very reasonable price. The staff is friendly and professional. You’re in great hands with these guys.
My Son takes Drum lessons with Bill Shirk and loves it. Friends and neighbors notices the improvement. We also purchases a nice set from Mike. Great price and service.
Went to look at it guitar that was listed on craigslist. Owner was a nice guy that helped me find the instrument I was interested in, gave me as much backstory as he knew and did the trade fairly to get me to guitar that I came for. Look forward to a return visit
I found the owner to be very unfriendly. I will shop elsewhere. I don’t like to feel like I am bothering someone when I’m spending my money.
The repair shop sucks
I spoke with the most racist person that I’ve come across in a long time, I think it was the owner. My child called the store on the 4th of July (several times because he is a child and did not realize that businesses are actually closed on the 4th of July). I was unaware that he called so many times. The following day I received a VERY nasty and distasteful message on my voicemail. When I returned the call, I wasn’t even given a chance to speak. He was yelling, using profanity and hung up on me. I will definitely tell everyone I know not do business here and I do not recommend doing business here (especially people of color). I will also post it on my social media pages. There are far too many Music stores that actually respect their customers.
After looking at other reviews, it seems that the owner is just a jerk by nature. I didn’t even see any responses to good reviews, only negative ones. So apparently you enjoy tounge wrestling. I feel sorry for the people that have to deal with you daily. Bless you anyway sir.
Update: Every business was NOT closed. I didn’t call my son did several times. You left a nasty vm on MY phone. And who has no class?? It’s definitely you…
6. Canton Music Shoppe
Address: 149 Reinhardt College Pkwy #11, Canton, GA 30114 , Amés , Georgia , United States
Canton Music Shoppe is one of my favorite places to spend time. I have been taking my granddaughter there for over a year for piano and voice lessons. This ultimately sparked her interest in music and as of late she also took up the ukulele. All of the teachers are outstanding and wonderful with children, as my granddaughter began lessons when she was five. This type of atmosphere can only take place when provided by the people who manage the day to day climate. Eric and Adam are those such employees. They will spend as much time with you to meet your needs, whatever those may be. They are both friendly and engaging and make you feel at home. The atmosphere is stellar!
Very knowledgeable. Exceptional customer service. A great store to do business with..
Very happy buying a guitar at canton music. I went in expecting “just another store” and it was far better. I spoke to Brennan at length, he knows his tuff, and walked out with a nice Gibson guitar and Marshall amp. Next my daughter wanted to take lessons. I highly recommend going to Canton Music
Great staff. Very friendly. Prices were great!
Had a bad experience shopping and selling here. I felt as if I was in trouble or under pressure the entire time. Both times visiting I regretting going. I prefer the smaller guitar store down the street…
Customer service said it all as I walked out and heard the guy comment to another store employee that people who can’t play will blame the guitar. If my playing was the problem, he could have been the solution in helping me figure that out instead of being snide, patronizing and rude, or at least he could have waited until I was gone. Needless to say, this long time customer will go elsewhere in the future. UPDATE: I went to Guitar Center in Kennesaw where my son and I were listened to and treated respectfully. We were thoroughly assisted with patience and great advice; bought a new guitar and perfect traveling case. Will definitely continue to shop there even though it’s a bit of a drive.
Not very happy with my experience here. It’s like they dont want you to touch anything. They constantly stare at you while you’re in the store like you’re going to steal something. Very uncomfortable feeling while there. Not my favorite music store!
7. Town Center Music
Address: 4072 Suwanee Dam Rd NW, Suwanee, GA 30024 , Amés , Georgia , United States
I was having technical issues with my pedal board, and Aaron helped me out so much I got my first official power supply Iso brick from Mxr, this guy knows gear and Amps!!! Anyone in the area has to check this place out! Awsome Gear and Guys there!
Town Center Music is a place that goes above and beyond ! I took mu bass because I was having trouble with the connection. Fender had this place listed as a repair shop. I’m an hour away. So I drove not knowing what to expect. The person there ( I forgot his name ) told me that it would take a few weeks before Fender approved or that sometimes it takes a while. So he got to working on it. He took the piece apart , found the problem and soldered the part right there! I had no appointment , no nothing. He told me to have a 1/2 inch screwdriver on had for regular maintenance that i could do myself. The best part: No charge! I bought a bass cable ( it was the least I could do) and wrote this review. I believe in real reviews. Always read them before I do business somewhere and this is real. I trust this shop to work on expensive gear and they are very honest. I hope I don’t have to take my instruments but if I do this is where I would take it. Not like your regular big box music stores where no one says hi or you are just a number. Thank you Town Center Music and all your team ! I forgot to write this sooner but here it is. Five starts!
My first time visiting here and was blown away at the quality of guitars they had. I brought my Yamaha acoustic I purchased from somewhere else here to get a set up done and they have great pricing and turn around time compared to other places I called. Also explained in great detail what needed to be done and what needed to be adjusted and why.
I wish I went here to make my guitar purchase, the quality of each guitar they have on display is beyond anything I’ve seen at other guitar shops. They set up each guitar before selling it and that right there just made me a lifetime customer. They really care about the quality of the instrument you’re investing in and that means a lot to me.
Aaron was very knowledgeable and explained to me a lot about the electric guitars that I had no idea about and let me play my first ever electric and I fell in love with it. I left out of there with a huge smile on my face after playing their guitars and speaking with them. I am going to be beating myself up for a long time for not coming here for my first guitar purchase.
Good
Much better store I not been here in a while the past manager was not a music guy or a manger known as a air head I will be back
Taught my kids to play guitar
Not where u want to shop you find poorly trained staff and not music people I shopped here off and on for years . just not good pepole
Wow. Just called Town Center Music. Someone answered. I started asking about a guitar I’m looking for and got cut off mid-sentence by the guy talking loudly to a co-worker. When he stopped talking I said hello? Hello? Nothing. A few seconds later he hangs up.
Store is dirty poor selection not real big
8. Music & Arts
Address: 5213 Memorial Dr, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 , Amés , Georgia , United States
I stopped by to check this place out. The owner is really friendly and helpful. I left my acoustic with him to set up and restring. This guitar has never played or sounded as good it does now! Thanks a bunch!
Brought two acoustic guitars in for setups to improve the action and playability. Jim does amazing work! Now both of these guitars play beautifully! His listens to what you need and really delivers, plus you get quick turn around. I whole heartedly recommend JAWS GUITARS to anyone needing new gear or improvements to your current instrument.
Amazing, friendly and really can make your guitar, bass ,play better than ever! No.1 in Georgia
support your local music stores. professional repairs and great service. These guys give fair prices on trade-ins as well.
Jim, the owner is well informed and super friendly. A pleasure to speak with. Inventory changes often. Fun place to to go exploring.
Knowledgeable, friendly owner. Cozy shop and nice environment. Now, if I could just magically learn how to play…..I’d give it one more star….
I needed a setup for my Gibson Les Paul and decided to give Jaws a shot because of their overwhelmingly positive reviews. I dropped of my guitar and told the luthier that I was experiencing a lot of fret buzz. The turn around time was very quick and I was able to pick it up the next day. I was told that there would still be some buzz based on my attack, which seemed like a cop out. I asked if there were any high frets and I was assured that there were none. I took the guitar home and played it to find that I was still experiencing buzzing even when strummed lightly. I pulled out the fret rocker to find that several of my frets were high despite what the shop told me. Overall, this was a waste of time and money and I’m very disappointed with the level of service.
10. Music & Arts
Address: 5236 Stone Mountain Hwy, Stone Mountain, GA 30087 , Amés , Georgia , United States
WOW!!!!
I couldn’t believe how much stock Megatone has in store!!!! Friendly and knowledgeable staff with a huge selection. Prices are a bit higher than I expected, but we are out in the country. Give them a visit
Awesome shop with an awesome owner. Lots of vintage guitar and bass amps, and a nice selection of new and funky vintage instruments as well. Good vibes!
Dealt with these people on reverb. They ignored my messages, refused a refund twice, once before it had shipped out because the dimensions weren’t right to fit on my guitar. Then after no response for months, I posted on their facebook and they deleted my post. These people are scammers and deceivers. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.
Despite receiving damaged item, supplying several pictures of clear damage, and messages from seller admitting it was damaged, they refused refund. Reviews from others with similar complaints also noted. Buyer beware.
Staff isn’t honest
12. Hootenanny’s Music
Address: 572 Maddox Dr, East Ellijay, GA 30540 , Amés , Georgia , United States
I inherited my Dad’s guitar, and needed to have it serviced.
I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone! Great friendly people, fast service, and knowledgeable on all instruments.
My guitar came back to me polished, restrung, and tuned to perfection! It would have made my Daddy proud.
I may even consider taking lessons….I hear the instructor is fantastic.
Thanks so much…I’ll be back!
Wonderful, helpful people and great selection! Awesome to have a store like this you don’t have to drive to Atlanta for!
Awesome store. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Very nice people.
Great prices, friendly people
Went here purely to find an acoustic to put my fingers on while I was on vacation… had 3 electrics because I’m recording on the way back home… but wanted an acoustix… but tbh I had a hard time finding something I could justify. I was looking for a throwaway type instrument but one that didn’t lose intonation when fretting an 11th fret for example, due to string action. Found one I almost bought but decided not to… the only section I was semi into was the very few in the back right side of the building where there was a strat, tele, LP (cant Remember), Martin acoustic….all of which were appropriately priced. None of which were at such a deal I just had to get it… was easy to walk away.
13. Firehouse Guitars & Music
Address: 612 Medlock Rd, Decatur, GA 30033 , Amés , Georgia , United States
I stopped into Firehouse for the first time yesterday and I was blown away by the amazing people that worked here. I came in with a specific problem – protecting my guitars for an upcoming move – and the two guys working there both listened to my quandary and helped me come up with a solution. They were super attentive and friendly, knowledgable, and seemed to really love what they were doing. The simple kindness that they showed to me has decidedly made me an eternal fan of the store. Not to mention that the two people who were working there both kept their masks on the whole time. I just feel like that’s a show of human decency.
A few days prior, I went to a large chain music store nearby and the employees there just acted too cool to really give concern to my issues and NO ONE was wearing a mask. I mean, halfway through helping me, the employee picked up a guitar and started playing lol. I was like, “bro, I’m talking to you??” (didn’t say that, but I definitely thought it)
Listen. Don’t go to any other store in the area. These guys care about everyone that walks through the door – I can just tell. My only regret is that I didn’t catch the names of the two guys so that I could mention them directly. Show some love to the local guys. You won’t regret it.
Super helpful folks! I got help restringing my guitar and they made it look brand new in the process. They answered my every question and made me (and my many questions) feel welcome. I’ll be back!
They were great helping me rent sound equipment for an outside event. So helpful and guided me through the process since this is not my field of expertise. Will definitely use them again.
This is a pretty good little store. I bought my guitar and amp here
Rip off.go elsewhere. I use to really like bringing my daughter here but they must be under new management. Prices have gotten ridiculous!!!
14. Musician’s Warehouse
Address: 245 N Lumpkin St, Athens, GA 30601 , Amés , Georgia , United States
Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff And a well stocked store.
Could be a little more organized. Drum area needs more open space. And more displayed of items. Seems pretty congested.
Very nice store but not a great variety of guitars
Professional assistance provided.
Poor selection. If you like grandpa guitars this is the place. Wouldnt recomend to any modern guitar players.
Really wanted to like this company. I was cheated and conned, and after a week with zero communication I contacted them. They fumbled around for another day or two then stated they couldn’t find the item. I was left empty handed and confused. No attempt at finding the item or ordering another. Nothing. Zip. C’mon guys!
Dude I’m not sure what happened. The first floor is desolate (empty for everybody that’s currently reading this while dunk). I understand social distancing, but I’m I am attending Warehouse, I do not care about the current situation, I’m here to rave. Open the first floor for a mosh pit.
15. Guitar Center
Address: 970 North Point Dr Suite A120, Alpharetta, GA 30022 , Amés , Georgia , United States
The guitar I bought was under par and there was no problem at all returning it for a full refund.
Awesome. not as big.. but its still here. They have a Private guitar room with an amp so you can test out your guitar without hearing ambient wankage in the back round.. genoius
Good assortment, very nice staff
Not sure why, but rude seems to be a requirement for employment at Guitar Center. Looking for a DJ controller, which I was told could be found at this location; was quickly told by the sales rep that they did not have it and was given the typical “it takes time for online to reflect what’s actually in store” excuse. Decided not to except the lame excuse and do my own search, which I was able to locate the product almost immediately on the top self. I guest they are too busy playing around with all of the musical toys available in the store to provide good service.
A great place with lots of nice workers! Though their service can be just a little slow sometimes, they make up for it with great attitude and a friendly environment!
Love the place but selection of acoustics not very good. FUN FUN FUN!
Nic moc služby
I rather not say. But what I will say, if you knowledgable sales persons to talk to you, go to the Atlanta location. Customer service to ALL ppl is key.
False advertising. “Open house” with free 10 minute music lessons. WRONG! Took our son and were told no one was available after the employee said she’d ask if an “instructor” would be WILLING to give the lesson. I’m sorry, I didnt realize the reincarnated Beethoven was giving lessons at Guitar Center.
Lies. Crappy customer service and an overall snotty attitude. We will NEVER cross the threshold of any Guitar Center again. I’ll just use one of the 3 million available apps to teach my son guitar myself. Contrary to the attitude of Guitar Center employees and “instructors” it doesn’t take a musical genius to do so.
