I have been using Howard Instrument Service to do all of our instrument repairs, both for customer-owned instruments as well as for our rental pool for almost 2 years now. I have been very pleased with their service. They stand behind their work, and their prices are very competitive. They have most definitely earned my loyalty as the manager of our Rexburg store!
They are very helpful, honest, have good prices, and have some very polite cats on the front porch.
I bought a Yamaha tenor Sax off of ebay that had problems playing low D to low B flat. I took it to a repair shop in Idaho Falls twice but it didn’t help. My brother is a professional musician in Salt Lake, so I took it to his repair person that is very well known. He got it playing better, but D and B were still not right. Then I took it into Donna Howard and she got it playing near perfect with in a half an hour and for a lot less money than the other guys!
I ALWAYS have a great time at Chesbro Music Company – it’s one of my favorite stores ever!!!! The employees are so kind, courteous, and helpful – the store bursting with music and JOY!!!! Seeing smiling kids leave with their new instruments, looking forward to their new musical adventures – I love it there!!!! I wish I had more money, because I would spend it all at this store!!!!
They’re always so amazing to work with. Great customer service
Amazing send-off for my wife. Thanks and a thumbs up to everyone there with their kind words and support.
Very nice place
They had amazing set up, music stock, instrument stock, and friendly people. Great place to go for most music needs. Repair for instruments is around the corner, though.
Friendly service had what I was looking for
I would never shop at this store, I made the mistake of signing my son up for their rental program which is nothing more than a high interest, high harassment loan scam. These guys are a complete joke. The complete lack of customer service, along with the harassing phone calls, and creepy home visits are enough for me to contact law enforcement. DO NOT give this company your business!
I went there, asked to borrow a guitar cable, and the old guy there said “what for?” After explaining the obvious, he said he didn’t want me playing anything unless I was going to buy something. He then tried to force me to use an amp that I didn’t want to use. After he walked away, I plugged into the tube amp that I wanted to use. He then came back and told me that I wasn’t allowed to play any of the tube amps that were out for people to try. My question is this: why have the tube amps out on the showroom floor if people aren’t allowed to try them? I’m never coming back.
Not thrilled at all with the service of piano, lessons 110.00 a month for a child only, once a week totally outrageous. Piano gallery was way, cheaper and nicer .

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. If they don’t have what you are looking for they will help you find it. We have gotten many musical items from this store including a piano, keyboard, sheet music and much more. They also have rental equipment if that is what you are looking for.
Really great music stores
Very good experience I neededa PA system for a funeral and they provided what I needed at a good price
This is my go to bass store, real close to my house, Great Staff, 4 stars because nothing’s perfect
Has a pretty good selection of just about anything a guitarist might need and a friendly staff.
I was looking at a guitar here that I was in love with and was going to buy that day and the salesman pulled it from my hands and said “if your not going to buy it, I’m going to sell it to someone else.” After I just finished telling him I’m going to buy it. Very terrible service. Rude workers
Rude from the second we walked in the door. I immediately knew I didn’t want to do business with them.
Very rude people. Extremely over priced. Their used guitars, even the ones in bad shape, are way too much. They take advantage of you not knowing much about how much a guitar or musical instrument is worth, and they rip you off. Please, do not buy from here. I like to support local businesses, but I will not support this one or the owner who I have witnessed multiple times taking advantage of people. Go to any other music store in Pocatello, but please do not support this business.
7. Mike’s Music
Address: 2455 N Yellowstone Hwy, Idaho Falls, ID 83401 , Butte County , Idaho , United States
Nice selection of guitars, found a couple things I’d been looking for the last time I was there.
Great store, very knowledgeable folks and informed!
Sweet people, just nothing in store I was looking for
Good selection. Carried amps by Dime.
Bad customer service
I been going here for the years. I’m done. Instruments are old and well used. We’re have had issues with everything: from picking up an instrument that stays out of tune to, picking up an instrument that the string breaks when tuning it prior to playing, getting a cello bow for a viola, handle falling off a case, and Most recent, trying to put a violin g string on as the viola a string. I’m going elsewhere. Encourage others to do the same.
Terrible customer service. Everybody that answered the phone was unhelpful. The manager was arrogant. They had a used version of a specific guitar I was looking for but were asking 50$ more than the guitar was brand new on multiple web stores. Horrible experience, will never go back.
8. Main Street Music, Inc.
Address: 401 N Main St, Pocatello, ID 83204 , Butte County , Idaho , United States
I travel to Pocatello from Boise for the sole reason to go to Main St Music, The always have a good selection and everyone is always friendly. My guess is the people who complain about this store on the web are other local people who sell music gear. I will keep going there as long as I have a need for great music gear. CODY
Love this place. They’ve never failed me yet. Always have what I’m looking for.
I love these guys. Very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere inside a music store can make or break. But I have to say, every time I enter, I always feel invited.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff
You know I really like this place! Fancy lights and shelves, no. But very helpful people and a unique selection of instruments at surprisingly competitive prices!!! They went above and beyond to get me a piano book. This IS where I try to take my business!
Fun place to go
Lots of cool stuff
So it’s a toss-up I mean I went in and bought a brand new piece of equipment and a used piece of equipment the same time so far the turntable turned out to be professional and nice course it was brand new it’s what I would expect from Stanton music. And then there’s the factor of the didn’t work it shouldn’t have been on the shelf so if you’re going to buy for main Street music taking electronics professional in with you or music specialist in with you and make sure that your purchases sound otherwise only buy new.
9. Chesbro Music Company
Address: 257 N 2nd E, Rexburg, ID 83440 , Butte County , Idaho , United States
This was my first experience walking into a music store and I was very happy with my experience. I described what I wanted and they were able to help me out in every way. Really good deals which is why I continue to go back for what I need. since then, I’ve been to another music store in Rexburg just to see what it was about and quickly realized that I prefer Chesbros.
Always have had good experiences here when buying guitars or accessories.
And the guy with the beard. AWESOME! He’s super nice, full of helpful opinions, and knowledgeable.
I have shopped at Chesbro for decades. They are the premier music store here in Rexburg.
Chesbro has an awesome selection and always has what I am looking for. Their guitar and bass selection is great and the prices are very reasonable.
However, sometimes the staff is a little overwhelming. One of the dudes, Drew or something, is a know it all and somewhat condescending as if his opinion is the correct one. He also tries to convince you to buy other stuff you don’t want and it makes you want to just not buy anything.
I went to find a particular cable, but they didn’t have it. They had cables spread around the store, and seemed to have a lot of brands of the same product, rather than a diverse range of cable types.
Changed my review since the management change. I am now the guitar tech at Mike’s Music. The new management is really great and have come sent people to us and we like to refer people to them. Each has their strength and we can help each other. Thanks for the new management. They are doing a great job!
Very poor customer service.
This place is completely mediocre. Seemed overpriced on most of their items. Workers were alright. I wouldn’t recommend going there, you’d be better of at even a pawn shop that sells music equipment.
I have heard much about this place and was excited to check it out. Was very disappointed with the prices and materials that they had. I wish Rexburg had a guitar center; so until then I guess I’ll just shop here? Unless anyone knows of other music places I could go to? They’re not better than Mike’s Music.
10. No Limit Guitar Co
Address: 338 Yellowstone Ave, Pocatello, ID 83201 , Butte County , Idaho , United States
The gentleman here really set my 10-year-old daughter up with an amp for her bass.
They have a great selection of guitars, strings and picks. What more do you need? Oh and the employees are super chill, great customer service.
Got a great deal on my Line 6 Powercab. Very professional environment. Loved it. Will be coming back for my further music equipment needs.
I feel like the name on this music store is a little misleading. Should be called “No Limit Piano Co.” … because the electric guitar selection is very limited. Having said that, the acoustic guitar selection is very good and the prices seem to be on par with the national averages for things like Martins, Taylors and even PRS. Lots of pianos and other instruments that are not typically found at a guitar store. Overall, worth a visit. I haven’t bought anything yet but definitely might consider one of the many solid acoustic options.
Decent place for piano recitals.
Great selection and fantastic help!!
Don’t buy anything here! They don’t stand behind what they sell. Rulon is a liar and I have the emails to prove it. Been trying to resolve a problem and he wont get back to me at all…..STEER CLEAR!
12. Mike’s Music
Address: 54 E Main St, Rexburg, ID 83440 , Butte County , Idaho , United States
Best place in town for all your music needs, the employees care a lot about the customer. Underneath in the basement there is a recording studio that is very professional and very affordable, they are very knowledgeable, and can help you with all your recording needs.
They fix my guitar strings it looks brand new
Many thanks to my good friend Brandon at Mike’s for suggesting I switch guitar instructors.
One lesson from Keith Meenan was a game changer for me.
I am 66 years old and have struggled to piece guitar instruction together the past four years. Keith Meenan is the most efficient teacher I have found.
First, Keith is a professional guitarist of the highest caliber. He heard my struggles right off the bat and tailored a platform allowing me to use my inabilities to my advantage.
Second, Keith “pushes” me to stay focused and whenever I make a mistake, just forget it and move on. As a perfectionist, it is hard for me to make a mistake without dwelling on it.
But, and this was critical, Keith has state of the art equipment and he knows every aspect of computational support for teaching guitar. The day he isolated the guitar “live” licks of a super-professional player and pointed out the missteps and wrong notes and bad timing on a live production, it was eye opening. I knew I could play a guitar. It’s not rocket science. Playing is deeply personal and that aspect has made all the difference.
Keith doesn’t allow you to get fixated on the “style” of any one player. Instead, he encourages individual freedom of expression.
Nothing is more important.
Thank you to Brandon and the entire staff at Mike’s.
Especially, grateful at this
Thanksgiving season to have a guitar master, patiently guiding my old fingers toward a remarkable outcome.
THANKS KEITH!!!
“Wax on. Wax off.”
This place is good! Not my style of music at all but at least the prices are nice.
hello, I want to know if u have in stock the audiointerface BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UMC204HD and how much does it cost?
they keep switching up the prices i got a ukulele and the first time i went in apparently it was 10$ just to fix the strings then 20 then 25 and then the last one was 30$
My daughter had Keith as a teacher for a couple months. He really got into the theory of music, and taught a lot of stuff. There was a lot of information in each lesson, but it just didn’t suit my daughter. He goes more into writing your own songs, whereas my daughter just wanted to learn a couple songs, rather than write them. So if you want to be writing music, than Keith might be for you, but if not, I would not advise.
I bought a Behringer UM2 Adio interface here. It was advertised to work on windows computers. I was unable to use the interface due to a driver compatibility issue. When I came to exchange the interface the next day, I was not given a full refund, but $30 in store credit. That means I lost $20 and tax. I was told this was since it was used, but it didn’t work as advertised with my windows pc. I should not be responsible for a manufacturer error.
Two stars since it’s local and somewhat convenient.
Been in here quite a few times and every time the customer service is non-existent. The people who have been working at the various times I’ve come in have been either talking to a friend on the phone instead of helping customers or very stony and clearly didn’t want to talk to anyone. Their manner was almost rude when asked how their day was going.
The store is local and has some good items and a nice music clearance bin up front, but the lack of customer service and overall feeling in the store (it feels like they don’t want you there when you’re inside looking at stuff) will keep me going to the other music stores in the area.
13. Sites Violin Shop
Address: 212 N 4th W, Rigby, ID 83442 , Butte County , Idaho , United States
I bought my violin from Joe 16 years ago and it’s because of that violin that I fell in love. Life has hit us hard over the last several years and my violin ended up in my closet for a very long time and it needed repairs. I knew I wanted to take it to Joe since he repaired it before I bought it. I will never take my violin anywhere else! Not only does Joe stick to his quote, he understands the sentimental value of an instrument. In addition to that, his craftsmanship is excellent! Take your string instrument to Sites!
I have an antique violin that belonged to my great grandfather that Joe Sites cleaned & restored. He was passionate about the project and added lots of extras that are priceless! A nice & talented man.
I only got a quote from him, but he is very polite and very clear about his pricing.
Overpriced for violin bridge that was dipped in varnish. Prices are cheaper online for an actual Aubert bridge. Not very open to bringing your own violin parts to have installed.
Update:
I installed a self adjusting Aubert Mirecourt Violin Bridge myself for the price of $21.99 online from Fiddlershop.com. The cut was exactly as the one you showed me on your bridge. I removed your sound post and will be installing a new one myself. The process is not difficult, but requires some skills that can be learned. I don’t profess to be a luthier, but the quality I get out of doing my own repairs are better than what you have shown me or what I can get here in the local shops. The next best would be to go to Utah for a decent violin repair store.
14. MusiCare
Address: 391 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 , Butte County , Idaho , United States
I have been taking my saxophones to Musicare for regulation and repair for many years. Their work is top notch. They are also always willing to take a quick look at my instruments and have even made a quick minor modification or two at no charge!
I was so incredibly impressed and charmed by this shop and its owners! Purchasing a new instrument here was not just a transaction. The owners truly care about what they do and want you to love your new instrument and be successful. They are definitely not just in it for the money. I don’t think they would have let us leave without feeling absolutely satisfied that we knew what we were doing when it comes to my son’s new oboe. Knowing that the oboe is finicky and not a super common choice, they spent extra time (basically a mini-lesson) teaching us both how to assemble the oboe, care for the reeds, clean the oboe, and they helped my son play his first notes. Getting a new instrument is such a special time, and they treated that moment the way it should be, enhanced it, even. Thank you so much for sharing your passion with us! It was our first time, but you’ve made us customers for life!
Great place to get instruments or needed repairs. The father and son team are very kind and knowledgeable.
They had what I needed
Just a little expensive but they had what we needed
The guy that was working there was not very friendly but they got the job done
15. Teton Music – Pianos & Sheet Music
Address: 3025 S 25th E, Ammon, ID 83406 , Butte County , Idaho , United States
As a professional musician, teacher and music academy owner for over 40 years, I am always thrilled to have an establishment like Teton Music to send our students. Whether they are interested in purchasing a top quality piano, violin or guitar or shopping for sheet music, I can be confident they will find exactly what they need. The staff is knowledgeable, accommodating and courteous. I recommend them without hesitation.
My wife and I were very pleased with the restoration work that Spencer was able to accomplish with the keyboard on our 100 year old Farrand grand piano. His price was very reasonable considering the amount of work it took for him to make the improvements and repairs. The piano looks and plays much better than it did before. We may have him return in the future for some additional work the piano still needs.
Amazing services!!!! I love my new Pearl River upright piano.
Set up a appointment for a piano tuning for 01/27/2023. I waited a month for this appointment. The day finally came and they no called no show and I even call the store to. I waited till next week again to try and contact them and still can’t get ahold of them. I do not recommend this place for piano tuning.
16. Andeconda
Address: 450 W Griffith Rd, Pocatello, ID 83201 , Butte County , Idaho , United States
I went in search of some sheet music. The store attendant was very helpful and courteous. She even called their other store in Idaho Falls and was able to locate what I needed. I will definitely be going back to this store for my future musical needs.
Piano Gallery in Pocatello went above and beyond. Their customer service is excellent and employees are knowledgeable about the instruments they sell. They listened to our needs and found us some choices in our price range. Nobody tried to get us to spend more than we were comfortable with and I left confident that we had a quality instrument to work with.
My son purchased a beautiful Martín guitar at what seemed like a very reasonable price and Tiffany was nice to work wih.
Update to the update: I was contacted by the manager of the Pocatello store and she was very upset to hear about the issues I had with the guitar. She explained that the guitar support staff that I had spoken to work at a different store and she expressed that if she’d known about the issue it would have been handled very differently. Ultimately it was the hand written card that showed up as an apology that got me thinking they deserve to get a star back for all that effort. Glad there are still people out there that care about customers and the reputation of the businesses they represent!
Update: Buying the guitar was easy, and the sales folks were great. Fast forward one month and I’ve had a broken guitar on my hands without any help from the guitar support staff at the Piano Gallery. I’ve reached out to them half a dozen times talked to a few people that said they’d get back to me and never once received any communication back about fixing the guitar. I reached out to PRS on my own and they are sending me a replacement bridge that I’ll replace myself rather than having to go through this mess again.
Until recently I had never been in the Piano Gallery (because I’m not a pianist), however during my visit one of the other shops in town informed me they also have guitars. I was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent assortment of instruments, but more specifically a great selection of PRS guitars which was exactly what I had been looking for! The staff was very friendly and helpful in finding the guitar I wanted and I even ended up getting a new practice amp. It’s always nice to find great stores like this one and I’ll definitely shop at the Piano Gallery in the future!
Ethan at Piano Gallery has helped me move an older piano 2 times now. On both occasions I was impressed with the care and competence that was used. They do a great job and I highly recommend them.
Ethan at the Piano Gallery was instrumental in helping us find a piano that fit my partner’s wants, needs, and most certainly dream! From the day the piano was delivered, to picking up and storing it while we had our floors redone later, and now to a move, we could not ask for better service and professionalism. Ethan, Harrison, and Gabe were knowledgeable and mindful in the move ensuring to protect the piano and our home. They went above and beyond, and continue to do so! We are so very thankful! The piano sounds beautiful in its new space too!
Ethan and his team were amazing!!! They moved our Steinway with the great care and we couldn’t be happier!!! We definitely would recommend them and will use them again!
Ruth and Dale Schweitzer
True to their name, they have a lot of pianos. I was slightly disappointed in the lack of electric guitars because of their new “No Limits Guitar Co” name. But they had accessories I needed. And the staff was helpful.
Walked in to look for a up right bass wondered around for 30 min no one else in the store no one offered help then when I asked some one they said they where on the phone with a customer like maybe I would of bought one or paid for some lessons . If I had some help . But a very warm and welcoming place just not staffed on a Thursday
Great music store mostly very nice pianos but why post all these piano teachers on your website if you don’t really have teachers to give lessons??? I called to see if I can start my son on lessons and they told me that they don’t give piano lessons, but was kind enough to give me a few numbers of teachers to call but unfortunately I got not a single call back from any of them. So a 3 stars is for the misleading website.
The amount of religion in this store, along with some skeezy fake nice salesmen, makes you want to blast Rob Zombie in the parking lot. I have money, but I wasn’t suited up enough for the slimey sales guys who straight up ignored me for the nearest new customer – they just assumed I wasn’t in the market for a new guitar. In part, that is true – I didn’t want one from that store, it would probably be possessed by Joseph Smith’s ghost. High yick factor in this store.
ibanez good
edit:
Good quality products, but poor service. Violin parts are pseudo out of stock and will require up to a week to restock. Would avoid this place for all violin repairs/parts.
