They are going through a remodeling of the station it looking good the owner is a nice man he trying get better service for the town.
Convenient
Very good service, friendly and efficient
Always got what I need.
A little bit of everything!
Cheap expensive gas
Stopped for gas & lights on doors are locked pumps shut down – had to go elsewhere for fuel
A large variety of merchandise creates a cluttered and disorganized store. Displays and equipment are improvised and unsafe. Cleanliness cannot be determined because of the clutter.
Watch this place and ask for receipt . They will double charge you .
3. Tony’s Smoke Shop
Address: 8600 N Loop Blvd, California City, CA 93505 , California City , California , United States
Great donuts, nice worker. Just remember to bring cash!! She was so nice the first time as I had no idea it was a cash only place. She let me pay with Square, so the second time I went in I tipped her really big!
I Had Went Months Ago Before It Switched Owners and I Wasn’t Impressed. There Was Flies Flying Around In The Donuts. So I Decided To Give It Another Try With This New Owner and It Was Nice and Clean and Donuts and Mexican Bread Was Delicious.
On Monday we were still out in the desert, and the place we were staying at, their restaurant was closed during the week. Being dinnertime, we made the 20 minute trek out to DiMaggio’s after calling in our order on the way. After losing the call once, I called back and was able to place my order (darn desert reception). The young lady working the front was very pleasant to deal with, and after talking with her while waiting for our pizza–I found out they DO deliver to the Silver Saddle (which is surprising.. since its a 20 minute drive one way!).
Buon caffè accompagnato da ciambelle
Their morning bun is O.M.G. their ham quiche is amazing too. Their croque monseiur mushroom version is not as good..kinda sour and got too many mushrooms. I want to come every morning and try everything.
They have flies landing on the donuts … wouldn’t have seen that if I Wouldn’t have been waiting a while for someone to come out to help since no one was out front either.
Ordered a smoothie but they were out of boba and there was flies crawling all over the donuts and the tongs being used look like they hadn’t been cleaned or switched out. The employee was nice though
No cake donuts, only fresh early AM
6. McDonald’s
Address: 9628 California City Blvd, California City, CA 93505 , California City , California , United States
Modern McD. Restroom was very clean. Quick service.
Idk anything about the food, service, or atmosphere, but I do know one thing- the phone number was used in a Wattpad story, and if that doesn’t mean someone likes this McDonald’s branch then idk. Seriously though, someone spread the live through Wattpad so I’m spreading it back.
This food and service is it that good anyways
They don’t serve breakfast all day. My food was also made really sloppy. The mayo was all over the place. Also, the lettuce was browning.
I had a chicken sandwich it was delicious and eat unsweet tea.
Great customer service. The only thing is that the drive thru is so busy it takes foever to get your food.
Very simple order. Requested a Nicky D’s egg and sausage McMuffin. Ended up opening it when I was on the road and guess what? Missing the egg ugh. Learning to listen is a special skill and pushing a button. Will add that the order taker was quite congenial good personality. Wish she had gotten my order right! Maybe next time.
Not so well!
I went to the drive through at 12 am and theyre supposed to be open until 1 am, well look who refused to answer me at the speaker!! How rude. When I clearly saw 5 employee cars parked and saw at least 1 employee with the mic head set. Terrible night crew I must say.

Address: 8209 California City Blvd STE 113, California City, CA 93505 , California City , California , United States
This is the BEST Sub I have ever had … sorry not sorry Subway, but this shop has you beat. I highly recommend going and getting the footlong you will not regret it, delicious and very flavorful. Thank you so much for everything. Customer service is awesome . Pictures don’t do it justice. Very fresh all around
Excellent place to get a sandwich
Was looking forward to a roast beef sandwich. Arrived at your door at 8:30pm on Friday night yet the doors were locked and lights were off. Hoping you change the hours listed or stay open for customers…, will change review later.
I have tried to go to this place twice. Both times it was closed DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS at lunch time! The second time, the guy was literally making a sandwich for someone and told me to go away because they were closed at 1:30 in the afternoon. I would love to be able to rate this place based on their food, but I will never go back.
Wife called in an order and after two hours later, food was still not prepared. My wife got there and the owner went off about having time for a call in order. He said he’ll refund our money and for her to go away. He then said he is rich and doesn’t need our business.
So per his request, we will never go back, and encourage others not to waste their time. Specially with the way he treats locals !
I would love to try this place and give a good review as I have seen and heard good things, but we have tried to go several times during the hours they have posted and they have not been open every time. It seems as if someone is there sometimes but the door is always locked.
8. Subway
Address: 8116 California City Blvd STE 105, California City, CA 93505 , California City , California , United States
Delicious and healthy..its a great choice of a meal
Good
Good but toaster is almost always broken be warned
It was clean, friendly and pretty fast too..
They got my whole order wrong and I mean they knew what the order was but we’re to lazy to cut new vegetables and cheese so I got one slice of cheese on one of my sandwiches no bacon on the other two but I ordered chicken bacon ranches and then I got no lettuce on the other this subway needs new employees
Closed store an hr early for what?
Every time I go to this subway they’re out of something essential. Last time I went they told me they were out of bread?? How does subway run out of bread??
9. True Mojave
Address: 15632 L St, Mojave, CA 93501 , California City , California , United States
I’ve been customer for a while now usually delivery since I live in bako. And they are always the best customer service, and best product I’ve found around. Was able to stop by the store in cal city and found out that the customer service only gets better, the staff has all the knowledge of the product and how to help the patient, and the variety is way more then there website shows. Definitely worth the drive. And if cant make the drive they are the only way to go if you want professional delivery of top quality products.
This was my first experience in a dispensary (comin from Texas) . The guy that was there was awesome! Gave me great tips and suggestions. He was patient with me, letting me see every strain I asked about. Definitely going back in a couple days!!
Beautiful interior, friendly staff.
Normally I have a good experience here and all of the budtenders have been great. Until today. Whoever she was, she was very rude and couldn’t wait to get me out of her face. Sorry to have bothered you by helping support the local business that pays your paycheck. Next time I see her in there I’ll take my money elsewhere:)
Smelt like sweet Bliss inside all the tenders were very friendly would have gotten 5 if it was more advertised
Good quality product. On time reliable delivery
Weed was stale and i bought the most expensive buds they had and my experience was not so great. For as large as a building they have, they really did not have much of a selection to begin with. Was really disappointed drove over 50 miles and was hit with very hi prices.
Nothing special; it’s tiny and located in a tin building at the far end of an industrial park in the middle of nowhere. Selection is pretty slim; absolutely nothing in sativa carts over 80-something %. Nice staff, but won’t be back; really not worth the long trip into Cal City.
Poor communication and transparency. I was a loyal valued customer along with my friend Chris for 2 years. They also failed to inform their customers that they abruptly stopped taking orders for delivery via text… ( the 1 and only way we have ever placed orders.) I’m addition, they claimed to have dropped their prices, yet they will charge you the normal sales tax, BUT they Also add their “own product tax” which was an additional $7 (on top of sales tax) and then they added city tax… And they have the nerve to expect a tip. So basically the 1 item I wanted to purchase was literally $28, yet I would have been spending $69 all together with all their add ons, and that’s still EXCLUDING tip. They were trying to charge me $40 on tax over a $28 item. Get REAL! Y’all lost 2 frequent customers. Watch out y’all.
12. California City Airport
Address: 22636 Airport Way, California City, CA 93505 , California City , California , United States
We stopped at California City after camping and sightseeing around the Death Valley region as it was the first available fuel stop arriving from that area. It was a Saturday evening and the airport was dead quiet. We weren’t able to get the 100LL pump to work and noted there was a credit card receipt for less than $1 in the self-serve printer from more than a week prior so apparently we weren’t the first. Fortunately we checked our fuel status and we had a sufficient quantity to hop over to Rosamond Airpark. I contacted the friendly airport manager the following Monday and he confirmed that the pumps can be unreliable when unattended. Keep that in mind for your planning!
This is for the plane graveyard next to the airport. Super cool photography, but something macabre about it. I mean, logically you know these aren’t from crashes that people died in – but still, it feels like ghosts are lurking!
Ate at Foxies this morn. Excellent food. My 1st time. Just moved to cal city and will eat there often
13. Jawbone Canyon Store
Address: 32629 CA-14, Mojave, CA 93501 , California City , California , United States
Showed up after hours needing gas. Called them and they opened up for us! Gave them a big tip! Will be sure to stop by in the future for ice and supplies. Great family. Saved us a AAA call.
I’ve been going to the Jawbone Canyon Store for at least 30 years and probably longer.
Located on Hwy. 14 in the High Desert on the road to the eastern sierra, bishop mammoth or the back way to Tahoe.
Just south of the Ref Rock Canyon, Dove Springs Off Road Recreation area, the store is a nice place to ride to, where you can get a drink and snacks or a nice sandwich. A convenience store with a kitchen where on the big off roading weekends you find hundreds of off road fans having a great time.
To me, the Jawbone Store is a symbol of my favorite thing in life, going out camping and off roading with friends – it does not get better then this.
Nice little place out in the middle of nowhere. Went there to see the Fulcos perform lots of fun.
Grateful they’re open during the week. Lots of cold drinks & snacks to choose from. Fire wood & Ice for sale! Plenty of seats to rest & eat with shade. Outdoor dining area with shade & shelter from wind. Outhouses were convenient. Plenty of parking. Noted: Gas available for sale. ATV’S for rent. *Looked like long/short term storage available – call store. No issues with cell service.
The staff look regular, not greeters or specially cordials, but They have very clean restrooms for free and a potable hosed water. Closure time sucks though (5PM).
Terrible rv storage stolen propane tanks generator damaged by thieves night watchman had no idea trailer was there all that first week there ignored by employees
Charged $600 for storage not allowed to pay monthly no dump station $60 for water
HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED
Closed when I arrived. Can’t find times open anywhere. No sign of anyone
$5.00 per gallon of gas. Price gouging because they are 20 miles north of Mojave. Ni
14. Big City Music
Address: 11106 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604 , California City , California , United States
Purchased a Moog Little Phatty Redback Edition (in 2020, when it’s been discontinued for years) and it came as if brand new, untouched, just as described. Had it shipped to me in Sweden and the process was flawless. Excellent communication and service. Highly recommend this store. Even if you’re in the EU like me. Prices are also pretty reasonable given how hard it is to find most of these products today.
Absolutely great music store with people that care helping out
I initially reached out to Stephi to place an order for a module (as directed on their website) and the process was dragged out over at least a month! She would respond once then not again. Finally I called and left a message, and got no answer, then tried a different number and she immediately picked up. She asked that I email her my mailing address and said that she’d call me back, but she never did! Eventually I called again and THANKFULLY Jonathan picked up and processed my order in 10 minutes flat. He even was able to get me my preferred color, which was sold out according to Stephi. Thank you Jonathan!
The place has no signage at all and looks like it is abandoned, but it isn’t, it still exists at this address. They just keep the door locked. You have to call, or try knocking on the door. Kind of strange, but they did have what I needed.
These guys have special hours that only “friends” can come and shop. That is no way to get my money.
Awful customer service blaming me for their incompetence with shipping an item on time. Would definitely not do business again 🙂
Just did not have what I needed. I was being nice to this business in my review stating they just didn’t have what I needed. It was not a put down….but after their ” reply” sorry we don’t sell chicken here…..will stop recommending them for people to try. Chicken is not what I was looking for nor were my clients.
15. Culver City Music Center
Address: 10862 Washington Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232 , California City , California , United States
AMAZING all kind of guitars and music instruments, excellent prices.
Always like to go in and shop, however it seems that everyone is going all online. Not much to play with anymore like before.
Regular
Love the atmosphere here.
Awful to start with the manager was super rude didn’t even help we were there yesterday to sell equipment was given an offer we were almost done with the transaction but there copier went down so the employee who was helping said come back tomorrow and will set it up again after driving all the way back down they didn’t even help first off and the manager who helped us was the manager of the lessons so he offered us completely different so we asked can we speak to another manager we get to him and he’s just sitting down with a rude smirk on his face first thing he says is I can’t help u I’m sorry and well we were trying to explain he kept smirking and rudely kept saying I can’t help you he didn’t even get up from the chair to try to see what can be done we asked him if he can contact the person who helped us the day before he rudely stated I can’t so that and I can’t help you the other guy just stood there thinking that situation was funny worst customer service we always come here and buy equipment but now we will not return anymore and I will be contacting the BBB in regards to the service they provide and careless attitudes
Showed up for curbside pickup at at around 6:30 waited outside for over 30 minutes called to see if I would be receiving my item soon and turns out they closed early for a special occasion at 7:00 as I’m told and was told I wasn’t able to get my item even If I had been outside waiting before they even closed. Employee said that they forgot to notify me of the closing time and that there curbside wasn’t working. Horrible customer service, my item was already paid for I just needed to pick it up.
Me.Glenn needs to take some time off, you can just see his stress pouring out through his pores.
17. Borax Bill Park & Station
Address: 16363 20 Mule Team Pkwy, California City, CA 93505 , California City , California , United States
Friendly staff and have been adding more tables and areas to stay at for the day
Very good place!
One of the last wild places in California.
Great except for some idiots that couldn’t wear helmets and zipped our campsite @ midnight,no respect for anyone.
We stayed here one night during the week in in late November. For some reason there was no water or power until the next day. No problem, we were just passing through and don’t have 2 or 4 wheelers to tear around the desert with anyhow. Looks like a good, clean organized campground and fun place to ride. We would stop here again if passing this way.
Clean easy to get in and out
I have and am STILL HAVING THE WORST experience of MY LIFE. Very much so incredibly inconvenience of a station. Can’t shower, can’t get water, can’t get tokens, but you can still pay for it yearly though.
So you really want to know the down lo … I buy a water permit for $30.00 and a miniute later they put the water on lockdown…not cool the permit was paid up to last till june so ya..and they say they will reopen, but not until the end of summer…
Hello, so ya
18. Angel City Guitars
Address: 4920 Topanga Canyon Blvd, Woodland Hills, CA 91364 , California City , California , United States
Olay is a great guy, who knows a lot about the stuff that he sells, he is super helpful and responsive. His shop also has a great selection of guitars, amps, pedals and strings. Highly recommend his shop especially to guitar enthusiasts, pros and to all kinds of guitar lovers.
Great shop, beautiful guitars, friendly crowd. Definitely coming back.
I was in town for a wedding and I have been wanting to visit Angel City Guitars for a while now. It was a pleasure meeting Olay and his knowledge and passion of music was amazing! This place is a true gem owned my a true artist! I couldn’t recommend this place more!
best quality!
Nobody is here. Store is dark. Waste of time. Guy showed up
Back in October of 2021, I reached out to Angel City Guitars to have this guitar built for my 30th birthday (in May of 2022). They said it was a 3-4 month wait so I paid in full upfront and went on my merry way. 3 months go by and I reach out to ACG and ask for an ETA and they say, “Well actually it is going to be closer to 6-8 months but you are lucky because other brands have over a year wait”. And every time I would ask him a question, he would keep saying that I was “lucky to have a shorter wait than other brands”. I wasn’t super pleased with this so I asked about the cancellation policy since blue JM63s come up fairly regularly on Reverb for less than the custom that I ordered and he kept side stepping answering my question. Long story short, I decided to keep waiting for the matching headstock. Then I did not hear from him for 4 months, no updates, no check-ins, nothing. So I reach out at 7 months and ask about an ETA and he says, “It should get here sometime in June”. So we plow through June and I ask for updates because I am traveling and have studio dates set and he ignores my emails. Then 3 days shy of 8 full months and weeks of being ignored, he messages me that the guitar has arrived.
So I go and pick up my guitar and I am excited to see and play it in the shop and I take it home. I have it sitting out next to my other guitars and the fretboard looks orange-ish grey almost like they spilled bleach on part of the fretboard. I sat with it a bit longer but I grew to not be happy with it so I reached out asking how we can go about getting a replacement neck since it looked so bad and he never responded to me.
I had to email Nash directly and we worked out getting a replacement neck. I tried to “support the little guy” by going to this shop and it was my worst guitar buying experience of my life.
I emailed Angel city guitars for an inquiry about trading in a guitar for another one as I am aware this shop has these services. He responded once asking for which guitar I was interested in, I gave him the guitars I would be interested in and he just ghosted me. I tried following up a couple days later giving him the benefit of the doubt and still did not respond. Stay away from this place.
19. Performance Guitar
Address: 3621 Cahuenga Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90068 , California City , California , United States
Had Kenny work on my fender Stratocaster that was sounding thin and horrible. A friend of mine told me to give him a shot, and boy let me tell he brought it to life. It went from my worst guitar to my favorite guitar, plays smooth like butter and sounds amazing. I will only take my guitars to him now thanks, Kenny.
the attention to detail and craftsmanship is second to no one
The ultimate custom shop!
I had the same exact experience as one of the other users here. Went in for a setup, and to get some electronics work done. The advertised price for a setup was $85, but Kenny recommended additional services for a total of $210. To be honest I did not push back, from my point of view the additional work didn’t seem necessary but I also appreciate the expertise of a professional. The guitar had been sitting in a case for a few years and a setup was overdue. Kenny’s shop came highly recommended, so I took his advice. We agreed to $210, plus the electronics work -which he could not give me a quote for on the spot. Today I got a call to come pick up the guitar, and I learned that he also replaced the bridge for an extra $35 (on top of the work we agreed on). He said that the bridge was bent, or damaged, so he had to replace it. This came as a surprise. As I mentioned this guitar has been mostly stowed away over the years -secondly I did re-string it more than a few times, and I feel like a bent bridge/broken saddle is something I would have noticed. I am not a luthier, and I don’t have a photo of the bridge before I took it in, so I’ll have to take his word for it. I understand that things come up, but it’s good business practice to call a customer to let them know about the additional service required. When asked about this, Kenny simply said “let me know and I will put the bridge back in”. I’ll go pick up the guitar, the setup might be great -but I can’t shake the feeling that I have been over charged. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t know if recommend this shop to my colleagues.
EDIT: I picked up the guitar, the total came to $315. It’s not cheap, but the work is solid and the guitar feels good. So no complaints there. The bridge was marginally bent. I don’t think there was dishonesty on Kenny’s part, but communication leaves a lot to be desired. Calling/emailing a customer to discuss options should be part of the service. Also, the replacement bridge he used is not an original component. While the part he used might be superior (as he says) and I am not a stickler for that kind of thing, other customers might be -especially if they are looking to sell the instrument later down the road. The invoice in the end was still a bit nebulous. I bumped up the review by a star because the craftsmanship is solid. If you bring in your instrument just don’t expect too much in the way of customer education. I hope this is helpful.
Kenny does decent work but his business practices are dishonest in my opinion. His set up fee is advertised as being $85 . By the time i got to his shop he “”recommended” all sorts of things that would need to be done to my guitar in order to perform the set up. When I tried to push back against certain things being done he claimed to not be able to do one without the other. I am by no means a novice Ive been playing for over 15 years, while not the most luthier savvy the stuff he was saying just didnt seem honest to me. Anyway the total came to about 205. I agreed, he drew up the invoice, and I left. When I went to retrieve my guitar a few days later he had replaced the entire bridge and and bridge saddles without my permission or me having ever asked him to; he then tried to charge me over 300 dollars for the repair! I told him it was not ok seeing as how I had never even requested him to perform the extra work . Even then he told me it would “take too long” to take the new saddles off and replace them with the old ones but that nevertheless he’d refund me $40 . Still $80 more than the agreed upon price! I just had to eat it rather than go through the necessary steps to fight for my money back. I understand times are hard but that’s just not a proper or classy way to do business. I had high hopes for this place considering the reputation but I thought that was an extremely shady thing to do and it completely turned me off to the idea of working with him again.
20. Santa Monica Music Center
Address: 1901 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90404 , California City , California , United States
A wonderful, neighborhood music shop. Our daughter rented her cello from Santa Monica Music Center and they took great care of us. Whenever we needed anything, the staff was friendly and helpful. They have an excellent instrument rental program.
My best music school ever
My daughter attended a summer music camp and had a wonderful time.
Santa Monica Music Center is the best music shop in town. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. Great selection of sheet music and gear.
The employees are very friendly and helpful. They were able to help me with information about some instruments.
I agree, the musicians themselves are great, but “Lana” and “Lan’s Dad” are definitely up to something…feels like a front.
Selection bites, inexperienced staff and overpriced. Wannabe shop run by kids
I have brand new flute that the SM Music Center is supposed to have on their display to sell. It has now been a 3-4 months and surprisingly I haven’t received any calls from the store about any customer interest to buy it. So, one day I call in to see what’s going on and guess what, the person on the phone says the flute is not on display and he doesn’t know where it is and needs some time to find it. He calls me back a few hours later to tell me that. they have found the flute in the box in the back room! But not to worry, the flute is now in its rightful place, the display case.
Fast forward 2 weeks – I came in today to visit the store and find my flute to still be the box, not displayed with a bunch of other boxes laying on top of it!! And to add insult to injury, the same exact flute that is also brand new but is priced higher because it is SM Music Center’s flute is beautifully displayed while mine remains in the box.The person behind the counter was not apologetic at all and said that he will display it at his earliest convenience.
Just a warning to anyone looking to sell with Santa Monica Music Center.
