Randy the owner is friendly and extremely knowledgeable … This is the place to go for higher end string instruments. Love that this store offers 100% trade in value so that you can continually upgrade your instrument as you improve as a musician
Randy’s store has many great violin selections. He recently hired a very experienced luthier to adjust many violins and they sound amazing after the adjustments. Randy is also very honest telling me if a violin has a fake label, rather than trying to sell me a violin that he knows is fake.
I took my 11-year-old daughter to 6 local violin shops in Bay Area to select violins, and she said Randy’s shop is one of the best shops. Not because of the store setup, but because of the conversations she had with Randy. He inspired my daughter to practice more! How amazing! Although the store is not fancy, no classical European decorations, and not much room to walk in the store (because he has so many selections), it’s clean, bright, organized, and conveniently located.
Unlike what other reviews said, he doesn’t charge us anything to borrow the violins for home trial.
Randy has many violin, cello, and guitar selections from beginner to professional level. He also responds to the texts very quickly. I highly recommend his store to families who are looking to buy a violin, cello, or guitar.
Contrary to the prevailing opinions in the reviews seen here, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this place. If you are looking for a violin family instrument or a classical or flamenco guitar, this guy has it. Sure, he has hundreds of instruments crammed into a space smaller than the bathrooms at one of the major chain music retailers, but they are some of the coolest stuff you’ll find. I had my eye on a beautiful 1930’s Czech made bass fiddle. That’s not something you will find at Showcase or Guitar Center. The owner, Randy, has a wealth of knowledge to share, and the patience to listen to even a complete novice like me. I walked in expecting “nothing to see here”, and walked out an hour later far richer for the experience (but sadly, without the bass). Trolling music stores in the bay area for the last 40 years, I don’t know how I managed to miss this place , but I’m glad I found it. It’s a local treasure.
This shop had the violin strings I needed. The place is not very organized for the customer to shop in, but the owner/manager is quite knowledgeable. Definitely many options here, great mom and pop shop for orchestral instruments.
Great place for choosing a concert instrument
Great selection of top-quality instruments.
Extremely rude and unprofessional. Don’t waste your time and money on this bitter old man’s nonsense
DO NOT GO THIS PLACE. owner is too grumpy, he charges the customers( 30$) to see or touch any music instrument!! ??? I never heard somthing like this!!! also this store is too messy and dirty .DO NOT GO this place.. I saw the advertise in craigslist for Felamenco Guitar for this store which incoraged & invited everybody to visit this store so I drove 20 minute to this place, that was a big mistake…
even a star is too much !!!
2. Rasputin Music & Anastasia’s Vintage
Address: 1820 S Bascom Ave, Campbell, CA 95008 , Campbell , California , United States
Huge selection of cds, dvds and a vinyl section too. Bought a few 45s for $1 each. Excited to play them when we get home!
I like movies.
I was able to find most of what I was looking for it would be nice if they had more of the newer artist available
Great place for cds, vinyls, and movies
Great prices on movies, tv series, video games, CDs, vinyls, band shirt and Blu Rays. There is 90% you will find what you are looking for in these stores. You can also sell your old VHS collection. The negatives about this particular store is that it smells odd. Other than that I will be coming back.
I guess how people feel about Rasputin depends a lot on what you’re looking for and a dice roll of who you deal with.
I had some DVDs and CDs I wanted to get rid of and brought them in to sell. I got there at 4:00 on 8/31/17 and they told me it would take a half hour to go through what I’d brought. I told them I’d rather leave my stuff there and come back when they were ready. They took my phone number and said they’d call me.
By 6:00 I was leaving to meet with friends and since I hadn’t heard from Rasputin I called to see where things were at. They told me what their offer was (less than a dollar per disc) and said I could come in any time before they closed that night.
When I told them I couldn’t get in that night, things got odd. Basically, they pretty much insisted that I had to come in that evening. I explained that I already had plans and I’d come in the following day. The person I was speaking with wasn’t okay with that but we finished our talk with me telling him I’d be in the next day after they opened.
A few minutes later I got a call from the kid who manages that department and he basically tried to force me to come back that night. Among other things, he said their policy was to not hold anything overnight because in the past they’d had people drop stuff off and then go on vacation. I told him it would have made a lot of sense to have told me they expected me back that night. He repeated that was their policy and said it’s posted on the countertop where I dropped off my stuff.
I told him I didn’t think it was realistic to expect people to move the stuff sitting on top of the counter thinking there might be something important to read there. Once again he repeated that it was their policy. He then said I’d forfeit if I didn’t come in that night. He also said they had a right to refuse doing business with me and stated that I was being argumentative.
So… They took my number and didn’t call me back. When I called them back they insisted I go in that evening because that’s their policy. Their policy is covered by clutter on the countertop. Rather than listen to a customer they labeled me as argumentative because I didn’t just accept what I was being told.
This is just about the worst “management” I’ve ever come across. Fortunately I also have the right to refuse doing business there.
Lame .. overpriced…hot topic leftover culture…but if your fiending it’ll do..
Some staff Are Polite
3. Scott Cao Violins
Address: 1860 S Winchester Blvd, Campbell, CA 95008 , Campbell , California , United States
Jiansheng Mai repaired a crack which extended the full length of the belly, into and out of the f hole, of my signature Scott Cao violin. (I had dropped it). From start to finish JM and the entire staff was reassuring and sent photos as the repair progressed. It plays better now than before the repair! And I asked for and got Wittner tuners which are working out well. Great job!!
One of my very talented 5 years old boy needed a 1/4 violin. So when I was in a Chicago violin shop last summer I happened to fall in love with a Scott Cao:s violin. I brought it home for him and we love the little violin! It has such powerful yet sweet sound It is fantastic for such small violin. Now I am asked to get a 1/2 violin I am hoping to get one the same.
Great help with violin selection and reasonable rental rates for their violins. They rent violins and up to 6 months rental can be applied as credits to the purchase of a violin from the store. Since they make their own instruments, their know the nitty gritty details and is totally willing to help enlighten total newbies like me.
소박한 악기 판매점입니다.
바이올린 하나 구입했습니다.
My experience here was pleasant enough. A front desk associate was kind enough to introduce me to the beginner violins for rental. I thought it was fairly priced at $20 dollars a month. I rented it for 3 months to make sure I would actually like learning the violin, and to my surprise, when I returned the violin, they allowed me to use the money I spent on the rental as credit towards a brand new student violin. Also, they allow trade-ins of previous violins your purchased from them towards purchase of a better model violin.
Great thank you guys I look forward to playing it…..
The young employee there is rude and abrupt. In terms of bow hair change, I got bow hair changed twice, both times had some issues afterward.
The shop would not accept a return on a broken $20 chin rest (market value something like $10). Implied that I damaged it. After spending $800+ on a violin, this seemed tacky to me. I will not be returning.
In response to the reply below from the vendor below: The box sat for two months (many beginner violin students don’t use that component until later on). Thank you for clarifying that you only allow returns for one week; that wasn’t mentioned to me when I purchased the product.
Also thanks for clarifying that you “determined that the [y]our shop was not responsible.” That means you ignored my “determination” otherwise. To add further details for those that might read this review. Yes, the box was opened (or “broken” as you describe) that is how the music teacher discovered that the device was not functional). Again what a tacky way to handle such an inexpensive transaction. As I told you at the shop, we will not be coming back. I went to a competitor already and purchased a functional product, so I will not need any further assistance.
4. Do Re Mi Music Studio
Address: 285 Moneta Way, Campbell, CA 95008 , Campbell , California , United States
Mrs. Lora has taught me for 10 years and made me pass the Certificate of Merit examinations in piano. She really cares about building a strong foundation for her students and teaches both playing and music theory. All students get to explore both contemporary pieces and classical music. I have studied the works of Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. She is extremely talented and technically strong— best piano teacher I could ever ask for!
5. AVA MUSIC BAND

This music school offers guitar, drums, keys/piano, voice, and more. Not only do they provide lessons but also hold recitals and showcase their students achievements. As a former drum student of Jemal here at SJG I totally recommend all of their teachers.
