I have been teaching piano for more than 15 years now and I can say that Crescendo Music is one of the best music schools I ever had the pleasure to teach in. From the director of the school, through the team behind the counter, to the teachers, for everyone the first priority is how to welcome and accommodate each student in the best possible way. My colleagues are all wonderful musicians and incredible performers who take their job very seriously and with a level of responsibility that is a rarity today. The school itself is organized in such a way that every student receives everything he or she could ever need – from the books that are instantly ordered by the personnel to the wonderful opportunity to perform at a well organized recital in a wonderful venue at the end of each semester.
Great store knowledgeable staff and they had just what I needed !!
As a vocal and guitar instructor for several years at Cresendo Music I can say that Cresendo is truly amazing and inspiring to young and old alike wanting to learn how to play an instrument, or sing. All the instructors are high-level professionals who love to share their skills!
It’s also an easy and convenient stop for your musical instrument needs or repairs. Jason is a really great guy and an easy to work with guitar luthier plus! The whole staff is great!!
If you’ve been wanting to learn an instrument, including your vocal instrument, definitely connect with them!
Do not believe a flute that was dropped off to be cleaned and refurbished was even touched. Paid for the service and when opened, it remained unpolished and keys were still sticking to the pads. Unprofessional.
Do not rent from them. Had a few issues – just now with the return of the instrument. Returned a cello on 5.20, and still received a charge for another forward month on 5.22.
I called them, and manager Jason told me it is my job to call their provider of instruments and take care of this situation. That they only provide pick up and drop off and cannot be on the phone all day trying to reach their supplier. I was also offered to come and get the cello from the store again and personally take it to their supplier.
Very bad. Obviously, they do not get that when a customer rents from them, it is Crescendo’s store the customer rents from and not some obscure supplier. It is also their brand/store image that suffers.
2. DuBaldo Music Center
Address: 881 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
Great store! Love the selection of Ernie Ball Music Man instruments.
Finally got to visit after doing some business over the phone 18 years ago with Pete. Great inventory, selection and people. One of the very best examples of why we need to support local businesses and how great a family can run them!
Fantastic service, fast shipping, and competitive pricing.
Great service
3. Bethel Music Center – Instrument Sales, Rentals, Lessons and Repairs
Address: 273 Greenwood Ave #101, Bethel, CT 06801 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
Where else? Where else in the Danbury/Bethel area can you get all the music, Muzak, musique y musica Stuff and Expertise at all levels and for all genres that you may need?! Where, I ask you. Go ahead, try and tell me. But don’t try to tell me you’ll find nicer, more helpful staff than Sarah and Sophia and Juan and… Don’t even.
Great service! They make you feel appreciated and they actually care.
Very friendly and knowledgeable personal.
Just stopped by quick. Had a great hour. They are the best
Instrument rentals are great for their prices
Good info from employees
4. Greenwich Music
Address: 1200 E Putnam Ave, Riverside, CT 06878 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
My kids have been taking lessons at Greenwich music for 6 years, they admire their
music teachers because they are current and make learning fun. They really don’t like
to miss their sessions.
The staff is so helpful with scheduling to parents busy schedules and they
are always knowledgable and fairly priced on all the instruments they sell.
We have always had a positive experience at Greenwich Music.
We have had nothing but an amazing experience with Greenwich Music. We have used their services for: purchasing music and various instruments, repair and maintenance of instruments, restringing and providing years of wonderful flute lessons with Andrew. His teaching took my daughter’s flute playing to several years above her grade level. Joe, the owner, treats everyone as family and even hosts music recitals for the kids in the store. If he doesn’t have something in the store, he quickly locates it and takes care of your request. As a regular customer
for about a decade, I highly recommend them.
It’s a nice place! It’s a bit small but otherwise it’s nice.
We were kindly helped in the store, but we were buying a guitar for our son and we don’t live in the US. We were having problems with internet so we couldn’t research correctly at the moment, but they assured that the amp could be used in 220 current. We arrived home and we connected the amp and it didn’t work. So the amp was burned. Apart from that the price was a bit higher than the same thing in other stores, it’s not nice to pay 50 dollars more, but that is just business and anyone can charge what they want. It was our fault that we didn’t do a good research before buying. But the very kind person that assured us that it would work because he used to be an electrician, and it only needed a basic adapter, was totally wrong and now we are home and we lost an amp, so we paid extra for the set and it didn’t work. You were very kind indeed, but please if you are not sure about something, don’t sell it. Because we lost money and we can’t go back because we don’t live there.
Terrible customer service. Called and said I would be by in 10 minutes for an emergency repair. Guy was nice on the phone. When I arrived 5 minutes early they had closed up and locked. Super helpful…
Rudest customer service I have ever encountered. The man I spoke to on the phone yelled and hung up on me. When my daughter went in person to drop off the instrument for repair at the agreed upon time, he remained upset and kicked my daughter out of the store. Strongly encourage anyone looking to have their instruments fixed to look elsewhere. Disappointing experience to say the least.
Their hours aren’t very convenient and I was having a guitar strung and I dropped it off and I didn’t get a call before the store closed and then they were closed the next day Sunday so I didn’t get my guitar until Monday and that was extremely inconvenient. They also have a very small selection of basses.Update, they aren’t even open a couple hours on the 4th of July so I won’t get my guitar till Tuesday I am very upset with this store.
5. The Music Score LLC
Address: 2315 Silas Deane Hwy, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
I didn’t come to purchase any thing but the employees were more than happy to show me their selection and teach me about the purpose of the parts on the guitars/bass.
My daughter’s piano teacher in East Hampton recommended this store for the purchase of a piano. Thank you Gil for your help selecting one of your pianos. We purchased our piano several days before Christmas as a gift for my daughter. As it can be challenging to find delivery at the holidays, the store owner went out of his way to deliver the piano personally on Christmas Eve. The piano sounds wonderful and my daughter was thrilled. Thanks for the excellent service, wonderful piano, and beautiful music that now fills my home.
Gil is a super friendly guy! My son really enjoys guitar lessons with him!
Very knowledgeable and friendly.
My daughter is signed up for lessons and her teacher is great (I hear the others are as well). Just try not to deal with the guy that owns it.
Arrived at 10:00am (they open at 10am, but not today). I waited and they finally arrived. All I needed was guitar strings, but they had none. What a waste of time.
I tried to return my daughter’s Viola due to the school no longer providing classes. It was a total nightmare to get an answer in regards to my credit. They are very irresponsible and I am very disappointed by the lack of care towards my return which was even misplaced! Mom and dad are not helpful at all and he should really look at keeping them home, they make things worse!
6. JC Music
Address: 529 W Main St, Meriden, CT 06451 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
My family has rehomed a few instruments and musical accessories through JC Music. The employees were so kind explaining the consignment program and taking the time to get us the best value according to the market. Everything proceeded smoothly and we will definitely continue visiting!
Great establishment with a helpful staff and reasonable prices. I was here last week, and JC was very helpful walking me through all the options for a new set of coated strings for my acoustic guitar — they have a large selection of strings, so the guidance was useful. I hear the lessons here are high quality, and I plan to return here to get my violin ‘tuned’ up.
This is a really good local music store friendly and professional!!!
My grandson really enjoyed the music lessons and they are very professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommend them.
Would like to obtain some nice brushes and some type of top hat set used and very sturdy since I break percussion instruments all the time when I perform?
My son, Roberto Luis and Rosa live in Meriden. Are you far from the mall? I have spent a lot of time jamming in Puerto Rico to salsa, merengue, etc but my favorite is funk like Buddy Miles.
Completely disappointed. I placed an order in store on a instrument that was never placed with JC music. The customer service was poorly displayed and the options they gave us was not acceptable. I asked to speak to the owner several times and would not get on the phone and made his new employee talk to me. I ended up going somewhere else that was amazing
This was a horrible expierence. They need to get their stuff together, they had already-sold instruments on shelf. They had an amazing guitar sale and when I went to buy, it was already sold! They got my hopes high and let it down and I will not give them my money any longer.
Never have any of the literature or instrument parts I’m looking for. Took 3 months to repair a trombone. I tried to return an item and they wouldn’t give me back the cash to go to another place. The owner has blatantly disrespected my mother on several occasions and doesn’t have much knowledge of much of anything outside of rock music. As far as i’m concerned, this is the worst music store i’ve ever set foot in and would not recommend to anybody.
7. Woodbury Music Shop
Address: 766 Main St S, Woodbury, CT 06798 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
Great honest shop here. Had a great online interaction with Dave via email. Want to know why I trust them? Because they talked me out of a purchase. Ha! Thanks again!
A hidden gem UPSTAIRS. Don’t miss it. Dave the owner is great, and talented. Patrick Gill is the PREMIER guitar TECH in the whole northwest CT region. He works miracles at a very fair price. Excellent teachers, Will for piano and keyboards and Mike for guitar and bass. Better check them out. I only trust my guitars to Dave and Patrick. Won’t go anywhere else. Seriously.
Woodbury Music is the best shop around of all of your instrument needs! The shop owner Dave, is both friendly & knowledgeable! I have gotten both common things done (fixing of saxophone keys) as well as unusual things done (fixing of a dulcimer bridge) and everyone has always been great! I have also taken lessons for almost three years now, and my teacher Mike is not only a dedicated teacher, but also a very talented professional. Stop by and check it out!
8. The Music Shop
Address: 405 Queen St, Southington, CT 06489 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
Used to go to guitar center all the time till one day the worker wasn’t there, gave a chance over here and wasn’t disappointed! Gave me help on my Billie joe Armstrong replica by installing a new neck and saddles and I have to say this has to be the best set up I’ve ever played, I feel like I’m playing a custom shop on a squier! Such great help, friendly faces and now my go to for setups and help! Have a custom Strat there being worked on and I can’t tell you how tired there gonna get of me bringing in guitar after guitar to get setup in my collection one comes back to me and I give them another the same visit haha, thank you Scott, Jackson and Tyler!! Feels like a family and not business and that’s the best type!
– Michael
I’ve been taking saxophone lessons at The Music Shop for a couple of years at this point, and I can’t say enough good things about them. I’ve had a few different instructors here, all of whom have been friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. The lesson times are convenient and the pricing competitive. I often say that learning a new instrument as an adult is one of the best things I’ve done for myself, and I’m glad I chose The Music Shop for this purpose!
I’ve taken several guitars and basses here for setup and parts installation. The work is always top notch and they stand by it if something happens to go wrong. I’ve known Scott since I first picked up a guitar when they were at Caldor plaza (now Walmart). He actually helped my mom and I pick it out. I took lessons at the shop with an instructor named Mark right after that purchase. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.
The cellos were in not in good shape and we had to pay a luthiere to redo repairs that were poorly done when we received the instrument.
Great place but website could be better such as pics of some used equipment. I’m a drummer and would like to see what they have for new and used cymbals, stands, drum kits etc. And prices. I have done business with them and always had a great experience the reason for three stars is the website doesn’t do the music shop justice. All and all great store great people.
9. Sam Ash Music Stores
Address: 95 Amity Rd, New Haven, CT 06515 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
Went to the New Haven store to have my new Les Paul set up by the guitar tech. Boy did I get more than I bargained for, he (Austin) was awesome. He is obviously well qualified. He went to school to become a luthier. He was so nice and informative. He walked me through all the steps and helped my better understand what/why he was doing everything. I really appreciated that. Everyone in the store was really nice and friendly. I will shop with Sam Ash as my go-to store going forward. Nothing but great experiences so far.
I love the atmosphere when I go to Sam Ash. No matter what department you’re in, someone is knowledgeable and willing to help.
I live much closer to a different music shop, but drive to Sam Ash because of the people, customer service, store environment. Go to Sam Ash where you’re not just another customer and appreciated.
The staff in the DJ department are much helpful always.
Been here once but the service was great
Costumer service depends on who attends to you. Other than that its a good musicians store
Helpful
Employees are not interested in serving customers.
Not what it used to be.
Sam ash sale person did a terrible job with me
10. Giuliano’s Music
Address: 406 Westport Ave, Norwalk, CT 06850 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
I went to the store to check my new guitar, which I had bought elsewhere, they were very kind and professional, explaining the problem to me and also making some adjustments to my guitar to mitigate the faults that my guitar has from the factory. Bobby and Andras are the kind of people you want to deal with if you have problems with your guitar!
Awesome little shop. My favorite bass hadn’t had a proper set up in 14 years. I dropped it off with Bobby and he worked his magic on it. It plays better than it did when I first bought it. Definitely my go-to place for instrument repairs now.
Bobby and staff are awesome! Took my PRS in for a fret job. The guitar is phenomenal! I used to frequent his father’s shop in White Plains when I was a kid. Great to have these guys local! Thanks Bobby!
I went needing a pack of guitar strings to find out that they were closed. Their hours online say 12-4 on Saturday. Their door said the same. Lights off no one answered the phone. The time I went you ask? 3:25. EDIT:I have since gone back and they have been very nice and kind. Which has let me to update my rating.
Good service, very nice staff and management!
Everyone was insanely helpful from who I spoke to on the phone for customer support, to the guy that helped me out when I came to pick up the amp in store. Giuliano’s Music takes care of its customers. Will definitely be returning for anything else I need in the future.
11. Middlesex Music Academy
Address: 440 Main St, Middletown, CT 06457 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
I’ve had my son’s saxophone serviced here a few times, and not only do they do an excellent job, they also go above and beyond to be helpful. These people are compassionate about music! I’d never go anywhere else.
I’ve been a patron of the Middlesex Music Academy for over a decade. This is the place. THIS, is the place. If you’re looking for a tutor, repair or an expert opinion/guidance about music, THIS, is the place. You are not going to get the same care or interaction elsewhere; THIS, is the place.
For instances, their “repair guy” Joe Stereo, is the best. I have trusted him with my most beloved gear and he has treated my gear as if it were his own. He is aces. He’s always gone above beyond the call of duty in every conceivable way. Joe has worked on more than a dozen of my
instruments and I have never been dissatisfied in anyway.
Matt, the store proprietor, is a seasoned musician. He and his dedicated staff are generous with their knowledge and willing to work with anyone on any budget or otherwise to achieve their goals. I can’t say enough about this homegrown and beautiful establishment.
The bottom line, if you’re looking for a music store where you can build a lasting and worthwhile relationship with, then look no further than the Middlesex Music Academy. THIS, is the place.
love it
The sales team made it possible for me to afford a piano for my son
I would give Middlesex Music Academy a 0 if I was able to. I called to inquire about a $150 charge when I haven‘t been confirmed by John the guitar teacher. I made a request to Matt that Tuesday was my preference but John was booked so he scheduled Thursday at 6pm. I received a text and email from John yesterday that he had a conflict for Thursday and offered Friday. I responded via text/email that would not work and inquired if this was temporary or permanent to which I did not receive a response. I let John know this may not be a good fit then. I called today to have the charge refunded and Jim proceeded to call me names, saying I was yelling & screaming over the phone and I was being rude. No need to go into the dramatics but Jim needs a lesson in manners, telling the truth and understanding that being a manager does not give him the authority to behave poorly. Never once did I raise my voice but did correct Jim several times throughout the conversation all because i asked for a refund. Extremely unprofessional and a bad look for Middlesex Music all around. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Inexcusable & theater worthy performance by Jim today folks!!!
I paid $80 for a setup on a guitar and got it back with the strings a mile off of the neck and the floyd rose studs so high out of the body I could park a car under it. The bridge pickup was raised until it was practically touching the strings and the neck pickup was lowered to below the pickup ring. The tech then told me that 10-52 strings don’t exist. They’re light top heavy bottom and aren’t even uncommon strings. Every time I go there they give bad advice and clearly don’t know what they’re talking about. My friend tried to buy a tubescreamer (basic overdrive) and they tried to sell him a phaser instead (completely different thing).
I signed up for a piano lesson trial online. Their site is very confusing and it’s not clear if the lesson is in-person and online. I called them, left a message but they never called me back. In the day/time of the lesson, I called them 3 times because I was having problems to contact the teacher. The guy who works there, Jim, clearly doesn’t have any customer service skills. He was rude and unpleasant. He didn’t make any effort to help me, told me a was confused and nobody else had problems. I just canceled the future lessons there. It’s easier just hire a private piano teacher. Hopefully I will never have to deal with this guy again.
12. Music & Arts
Address: 989 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, CT 06107 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
They help me every time I come in and they are so kind.
Wasn’t going in to buy but, the selection of guitars was great. The service was excellent and I was treated with respect, definitely will be going back whenever I need something!
Excellent service from Peter. I need to return!
Limited retail space, but the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Music lessons are offered on site.
Yeah it’s good!
I have condensed my original rant down to the following- we really like our children’s teachers- but the front desk needs saving
Being a Deaf mother of hearing 9 years old child that has no knowledge in music, I asked if this is drumsticks is good for him. This man just gave me a cold look and said I don’t know it’s fine. He was rude. Definitely not a Deaf friendly store for those Deaf parents with hearing child who wants to join the band.
Unprofessional!!! I scheduled for 2 week straight for an hour due to the teacher not showing up and the second week they say no she is not on the Schedule and I need to reschedule. My daughter was already there and now has to wait for half an hour to do her regular 1/2 hour session.
Imagine spending your life blowing air into a piece of metal. Unbelievable
13. Caruso Piano Gallery
Address: 94 State St, New London, CT 06320 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
I wanted to buy a Yamaha U1 piano but could not afford a new one. I went online and saw the website and YouTube channel for Caruso pianos. The company introduction by Larry and Richard put me at ease about shopping for a piano site unseen. I called and talked to Larry and he was very helpful and informative. I called back the next day about making a purchase and talked the the Sales Manager Brian. He took the time to make a video demonstrating a couple of pianos that I would be interested in. He took care of the details in making the order happen.
I have most recently been talking to Richard and he is amazing. He will do whatever necessary to create a satisfied customer. My piano took a little longer to be delivered due to snow in my area. I got frequent updates, always extremely friendly. When my piano arrived, it was beautiful and I could not be happier.
Thanks for providing a tremendous shopping experience!
This place is 5 star all the way! I’d give it 10 stars if I could! This was the best piano shopping experience I have ever had. No one tried to sell u, they just let u find which piano speaks to u. I went in multiple times for hours and they never got annoyed with me. Brian is awesome! They’re all extremely knowledgeable and answered all of my questions in depth. I actually learned more about pianos just going in there. I couldn’t be more happy with the Steinway B That I purchased there! My piano sings!!! These guys are great!
Thank u all so much for such a great experience! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
I went to their store and also called them multiple times showing interest in one of their pianos. Despite the fact I showed interest and called/messaged multiple times on a piano, that piano was sold to an online buyer. There was no follow-up or a courtesy call to let me know that the product I was eyeing was gone or was about to be sold.
Nevertheless, I think that they have a good variety and a great knowledge base on pianos. I wish they were a little bit more responsive and courteous as buying a piano is a big purchase and takes time and thought.
EDIT: After my initial review, Caruso Piano contacted me and let me know that they have not reached out to me due to not getting a piano that was comparable to what I was looking for. Which is understandable. I truly appreciate them reaching out to me. I have to write that I learned a whole lot about piano buying from them when I first went to their store. I wish them good luck and hope they continue to be successful as a local business.
UPDATE October 5 2018: Richard Caruso promptly called me the day after I posted the review below. He apologized again, and very willingly reimbursed me for my travel expenses. I feel this was the ethical and right thing to do, and am glad that he made things right with me.
Original review: I flew in from Chicago to try out a Steinway B I had on deposit. The staff knew of my travel plans, and were very hospitable and welcoming. The piano, however, was noticeably out of tune on my arrival. While more accomplished pianists might not have seen that as an issue, it completely stopped me from getting excited about the piano. No sale for them, no new Steinway for me.
They were apologetic and realized their mistake when I pointed this out, but were unable to get the piano tuned while I was there.
This is a shop with perhaps good intentions, but they completely dropped the ball in this instance. I’m writing this review because I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.
I purchased a used U1 3 years ago from Carusos.
Please be aware: these are GREY MARKET pianos. They were originally built and sold in the Asian market. You will have proof when you remove the knee board and see the holder for the lease agreement. And due to that fact, the wood of the pianos is dried to standards for Asia. Not the U.S. or Northeast U.S.
I do like the piano, BUT I and my piano technician are having a heck of a time keeping the damper pedal from squeaking BADLY.
I had the piano saver system installed almost immediately. It has helped the piano hold tune very well.
But because this instrument was not built to the specifications of an American instrument (or North America) it is expanding very badly from the humidity.
I have a dehumidifier in the room with the piano, no heat or doors or windows near it. And I have my technition here AGAIN trying to shave down the knee board to try and eliminate this terrible groan/squeek.
My opinion? Buy a piano through a local piano tuner/technition or through a referral from a tuner tech. If you are going to purchase one of these grey market instruments bring your tuner with you. Pay them for their time and have them tune the instrument you choose BEFORE you give Carusos your money.
14. Litchfield Music Center
Address: 367 Bantam Rd, Litchfield, CT 06759 , Campdevànol , Connecticut , United States
I visited the Music Center a few days ago and was really impressed. I saw a bunch of great looking pianos in the showroom. I spoke to several staff about the music lessons. I was considering lessons a few years ago there. But now the facilities are all updated and found the staff happy and professional. I’m convinced that this is the BEST place in the area to get music training.
A perfect environment for music lessons! Great teachers offering music lessons in spacious well equipped rooms. The staff is wonderful, and Mr. Joseph DiBlasi is the most gracious host. He is also one of THE most proficient piano tuner/technicians around. I bought my beautiful piano from him which he tunes and services regularly, and he comes VERY HIGHLY recommended!
I really wanted to improve my speaking voice and be confident in singing. I went in with realistic expectations for myself, considering I’ve never really sang before and with Jennifer’s help I’ve already surpassed my expectations for vocal lessons. With the right teacher you can really get your vocals to do amazing things and having a great voice has boosted my confidence tremendously. I’ve had so much fun I’ve also taken up piano lessons with Jennifer. Definitely recommend her!
