Guitar lessons with Bruce W. has been great. My son has learned so much, and now is in a band! Thank you DUNDEE MUSIC!!!
I’m having a really great time taking lessons here. I walked in trying to get a crappy old guitar fixed last summer and I’ve been learning how to play it here ever since.
It’s amazing, the service is great the people are grate . I learned to play guitar at this place. Rock on
Great music store.
Finding a music store that does not charge an arm and a leg can be a challenge! These guys are close and reasonably priced however the guy has a real chip on his shoulder and an attitude that makes me want to walk right out! Seems like crankiness is a problem for old guys who do the same thing for too long. Over all experience not so good. But if you need an instrument repaired you will pay more taking it elsewhere!
the customer service was terrible the man was questioning my purchases and ask why are you getting that. I was in terrible shock. Like why is he questioning what im buying? the man was very rude. I support local music stores but not one that have employes who are very rude. and thats the tea sis!!!!!
Talk about having a chip on your shoulder… I simply called to check if you had a book and was given the third degree for calling before you opened, which is at noon. (I called at 11:30). I asked how I was supposed to know that but got no answer. I’m glad that you have the book I need, and I like to support local businesses, but I’m tempted to just order it from Amazon and wait for delivery! My wife had told me that she felt very uncomfortable in there, and now I know why. Dude, go to a Dale Carnegie course or read a self-help book. Seriously!
Employees are always very nice, and the products are always available
I Bought Diapers For My Son And Was In And Out At 3 Am
It’s s really regular place so i don’t know how to say this but it’s just like any coming store
Well organized and friendly staff, with everyday low prices
Nice clean store
Its Walmart. Definitely not the nicest one I’ve been to. It attracts alot of strange folks but I think every Walmart has that.
Food is way over priced! Staff is rude.
Worst Walmart. Highly disorganized. They are constantly restocking shelves during peak hour’s. Also constantly moving products to different aisles every couple of weeks. The worst part is the checkout. It’s only self checkout which has longer wait times than when they had cashiers. It is the worst design of a self checkout with many bottlenecks. It is difficult to get out of the self checkout since the exit is roughly one cart size exit. The cashiers just stand around joking with each other and are no help. I can’t stand this Walmart and everyone I ask about it can’t stand it either.
My first time at this Wal-Mart we moved in locally and we went to buy a birthday tablet for my sister, and the staff at the electronic section was what one might say horrible but I’d say it’s an exaggeration but not really. We were ready to purchase a tablet and we made eye contact 5 times and asked for help yet we didn’t get help. Honestly if I have to go all the way Elgin to get my stuff I guess I will.

I personally think this is a great place to come buy jewelry from, the workers are kind and it’s nice to have a chat with them meanwhile they are helping you out. I haven’t had a bad experience here and would recommend to definitely come visit this shop!
Great customer service & amazing people! I recommend everyone to come check them out!
They told me to come back in 30 min to repair hook on 18 inch 14k gold neckles. I had neckles for 25 yrs from Italy. They gave me a cheaper neckles back. Do not trust these people! So sorry I did
I would not come here to sell your jewelry. They will try to lowball you and then claim they aren’t a jewelry store when you know your piece’s worth.
I had an issue with an online order and the manager stepped up to make it right.
Great help from the bros! Havent had anyone help so much in years!
Very nice, helpful and informative
Fast, friendly, helpful service. The store can be slightly messy and a little disorganized at times. Best prices around, but some items do sell out quickly.
Took a little bit of time to get someone’s attention for help. When we did, it seemed like he was handling two or three things at once. The place looked a little unorganized. It could use some house keeping. I don’t know if this is normal for this place or is it just short handed like a lot of businesses.
Bizarre credit card policy. I tried to make a purchase in-store using my credit card. First they asked for my phone number when I indicated I’d be using my credit card. I thought the request alone was strange. I’ve only been asked for a number if I was using services (delivery, repairs, warranty, etc…), but never for a straight up purchase. I declined giving a phone number figuring the cashier had to ask for promotional reasons. Then I was told the store couldn’t process a credit card at all without a phone number. I’ve never heard of such a policy so I left the store without making my purchase. I’ll buy online from a competitor instead.
I understand that businesses are pushing more and more these days for customer data, but to forego a nearly $200 sale because you’re so eager to send me spammy texts I’d ultimately block is quite the business strategy. Oh well.
Staff is nice, but I do not have 30 minutes to stand around and wait to be helped when there are employees currently not assisting customers. Wasted my time I’ll purchase from somewhere else.
Ugh!

Never come here!
Waited around the store for more than twenty minutes trying to sell stuff just to be told they no longer take what I had due to overstock. Dirty, cramped, and most appliances, tools, and electronica they are selling are old and roughly used. Do not come here.
As a professional musician, I have been going to Cassandra Strings for many years to repair my 1800 acoustic bass. The expertise is the highest quality and the prices can’t be beat. It is so reassuring that you can get the highest-grade repair for a great, affordable price. Many educators have told me that Cassandra Strings is the place that their school system goes to for the best prices and quality for string rentals. The people at Cassandra Strings are honorable and interested in high-quality service at an affordable price. Most of the professional community knows this and I hope the general public can benefit from this company as well.
By far the best instrument rental services your money can buy. The breadth of knowledge of the team alone is simply unmatched. I would highly recommend Cassandra and her team to anyone in the educational department. You won’t be disappointed.
My son’s Scott Cao violin needed a new bridge.
Cassandra said the original bridge was expensive and that she would replace it with the exact same one.
SHE DID NOT!
Well, when we picked up the violin it was not the same bridge.
The bridge she used did not have a name on it.
It was much larger than the original.
She also said she removed the name on the bridge!
I asked her how do we know you didn’t use a cheap $5 bridge?
She along with the other staff said they never use $5 bridges.
The receipt read:
MATERIALS: $5
LABOR: $45
Lying and cheating people only can hurt their business.
I bought a trumpet from PJLA Music a PHAETON Trumpet PHT-2040 Black Chrome Onyx plated finish with 24 K Gold Plated finger buttons, top/bottom caps & water keys. I have been playing trumpet for 40 years and I have never had a better horn then this. I got it and starting playing and it played freely and was open and the horn allowed me to do as i wished with it and truly went over the top with its performance.. Thank you for my Horn!

16. Dr Woods Guitar Emporium
Address: 304 Lincoln Ave, Fox River Grove, IL 60021 , Carpentersville , Illinois , United States
Service, excellent. These folks know their stuff and can be trusted.
Very friendly, asked for advice on a project gave great direction. I will definitly come back to give them my business.
Buddy is an expert musician. His advice, insights, and customer service are worth the visit. I support this local shop because they offer value that I can’t get from the web or a large chain.
A very helpful and knowledgeable staff. A relaxed atmosphere with some really great looking guitars.
Its a long story. In the end it was a bad experience.
I think if I didn’t check up with them things could have been much worst.
I’m not doing any business with them and advise the same.
I called 45 minutes before they closed and was there about 25 to 30 minutes before they closed to get a guitar pick the lady with a dog looked at me walking out locked the door and got into her car and left mind you there was still about like I said 25 to 30 minutes left so if you’re gonna close at 8:30 put it on your page on Google that closing is at 8:30 and I’m still gonna buy a pick tomorrow because you’re the closest but that will probably be the last time I’m there and I will be returning the saxophone either Friday or the third
I debated posting a review or not, but I think I should if it’ll keep someone from having a bad experience. First off, the employees are super kind people. Couldn’t be happier with the staff. But unfortunately the work I received on my guitar was really poor. Took a guitar there, first time bringing them one of my instruments. Was told I could expect a turnaround in under a week. Ended up waiting almost 2 months. Honestly not a big deal, happens a lot with instrument repair. Got the guitar back. Took it out to play it and the truss rod cover is missing. Find it in the case and put it on. Turn the volume knob, it falls off. Have to spread the top of the pot and reinstall it. Start playing and there’s a weird oscillating noise from the amp. Find the output jack totally loose, have to take off the cover and tighten it. Screws for the cover are stripped in the body. This is a new guitar by the way. Notice the G string sits higher off the neck than all the others, very noticeably. Figured they would fix this when doing a setup but I guess not. Had to file the saddles out myself. Should have just done the job myself at this point. Ended up taking the guitar apart to make sure the wiring wasn’t as bad as the assembly and setup. Got it playing good now, but after paying for someone else to do it and then having to do it myself, it wasn’t worth it. I figured the extra time taken would have meant it was 100% ready to go when they called but apparently not. This was a mid range guitar so I’m not terribly upset about it, but if it was something really nice I would have definitely been upset. Take this into consideration before dropping off your favorite axe. Hope they learn to slow down and do quality work.
17. The Instrument Barn
Address: 11221 Dundee-Huntley Rd, Huntley, IL 60142 , Carpentersville , Illinois , United States
Everyone there was super helpful in finding the right trumpet for son. I will definitely be going back for anything I need in the future.
Great work by Harold! If you need any instrument work done this is the place to go!
Great experience with Harry helping my son go to the next level for his clarinet. He took extra time to make sure not only was the instrument the one he was ready for, but also that he had what was needed to grow into this next level clarinet as it was a larger than normal jump due to delays over the last year. Thank you
Friendly staff that answered all my questions
Everyone is pretty nice, but I don’t like that you can’t reschedule the lessons after 10am
Extremely heartless employee named Janet and horrible cancellation policy. In short, my daughter developed a 104 fever and all we wanted was to make up the missed class. The owner told me she didn’t care, which is heartbreaking to hear when my 7 year old is sick and suffering. I am all for policies but when a child gets sick at 4pm it is unacceptable?! Kids have to be sick by 10am-with our current world many would appreciate keeping a sick child at home. All I wanted was a chance to explain and share my point but she cut me off and raised her voice and said she simply didn’t care. We have been attending the Music Barn for over a year with great attendance so it was unfortunate to hear the disregard for my child.
My instructor Jim was outstanding I would learn with him anywhere, anytime. The school itself is a different story. After my last lesson I told the owner I would call to schedule my next lessons. Unfortunately health issues prevented me from calling. The owner still charged me $180 for two lessons. I called and asked why I was charged and she said too bad, that’s your time slot and you missed your lessons. Not a very good way of doing business, especially for a veteran owned business. I will never leave my credit card on file again.
Mr. Choin,
Please do not address my behavior, I have acted in a most honorable manor for a person who had $180 dollars stolen from them. I am afraid you have been given miss information from an “employee” who I can only guess is your mother. I respect you for taking family’s word over that of a stranger, but that is where my respect ends.
If you had played a particularly great USO show in the Army and your commanding officer approached you with praise stating he was going to put up for a commendation or a promotion, but you did not hear anything for a month. Would you assume you were promoted and wear the higher insignia? I think not.
This situation is no different. The last time I was there I told Janet “I would call to schedule my next lesson”. When I did not call there is no lesson scheduled, not implied, not intimated, not suggested. Jim was not there specifically for me, he has had lessons before I was there for my lesson and he had a student immediately after my lesson. When I did not schedule a lesson with him, that time was free-time for him. He could have left and gone for coffee.
The partial refund of $60 by Janet, when I called and very respectfully requested a full refund, indicated that she knew she was wrong for charging me in the first place. Your reviews are very clear, this is a pattern with her of taking money with out rendering services and this practice must stop.
I thank you for your service to our country but obviously the Army band did not prepare you to serve the country or community honorably. For that I am sorry
Never again buying from this shop.
Here’s the story: I purchased a guitar through Reverb. It arrived while I was out of town, and when I finally got home and plugged it in to play, I found that only the bottom pick up works. I cleaned it up a bit, bought a new cord, and tried again. Still no luck.
I brought it to my local tech to do a tune up, thinking maybe it was just some dust or dirt from shipping. I got it back and it’s still not playing other than the bottom pickup. The tech even said he took out the input jack and that the wiring there was fine, so it must be something within the wiring of the guitar/pick ups. Nothing in the description mentioned anything wrong with the pickups or the guitar. “100% ready to play!”
Considering I travel for work and my tech isn’t the fastest guy in the world, this whole ordeal took place over a few weeks. I’m not out playing every night or anything like that. Admittedly, this was a little long, but I didn’t think it was crazy to address this issue. Even clothing stores have 60 day policies. BUT when I contacted the shop they just said “too bad, we sent it to you several weeks ago.” So now I’m left with a guitar with one functioning pick up. Terrible customer service from a small business.
18. Concord Import & Export Corporation
Address: 2380 Vantage Dr, Elgin, IL 60124 , Carpentersville , Illinois , United States
Fantastic selection of the finest quality double basses, all other orchestral string instruments, and cases. Friendly, helpful and accommodating staff. I purchased my Christopher bass from Concord back in 2015. It looks as beautiful as it sounds. I have received countless compliments on the instrument, and I owe a huge thanks to Irene and the staff at Concord International.
I purchased a cello from this company that arrived with a displaced soundpost, and when I took it in to a repair shop, learned about several issues with the instrument that would cost more than I could afford to fix. The company has since been very unhelpful, and refused to allow me to return the instrument, despite the fact that it was not as described. They have now stopped answering my messages.
19. Piano Trends Music Company
Address: 35 Berkshire Dr, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 , Carpentersville , Illinois , United States
Owner & staff are freindly, knowledgeable and helpful. There is a wide selection of product with competitive prices. This store has been a contributing and valueable member of the community for many years.
These guys are the best. They do rentals, lessons, and sell instruments. Barb (woodwinds) is the absolute best.
Awesome shop and great service– our parents love the attention to detail and the wholesome approach towards arts education!!
Friendly service. A wonderful local business.
Very nice selection.
Worst place ever. Waist of time and money. I would not recommend this place. Stay away from this place.
Bought a beautiful piano paid cash … husband walked out needed money for kids paid piano trends to sell for me they refused to answer or send money I even paid for them to pick up in same town for 300. Now and then they refuse to respond to me
20. Kimberlyrics Music Lessons
Address: 10 E Main St, Dundee Township, IL 60118 , Carpentersville , Illinois , United States
My daughter has been taking lessons since she was 3 years old. She had the same two voice teachers until she was 7. We moved when she was 6 but we kept making the long drive to keep attending lessons with the teachers she loved, but eventually that became too difficult so we spent 3 years trying to find a teacher that was qualified to further her vocal talents. Then my son started taking lessons as well. We could not find that ideal person. We even had a teacher that made my kids cry and not want to attend voice lessons any more. That all ended when we found Kimberlyrics! My kids have a greater vocal range than they have ever had and they love going to lessons again! We are very happy at Kimberlyrics!
Great teacher! Learning so much!
We decided to sign up our daughter after our niece had such a positive experience with Kimberlyrics. So far, they have exceeded our expectations! My daughter loves her instructor (Chloe) and is always excited to go. And I appreciate the social distance measures they’re using so I can be confident that my daughter is safe. Thanks, Kimberlyrics!! ~Gina Swanson
