I come here all the time just to play the instruments and electric guitars! Way cool place! Also great for buying music, guitar strings, play a violin and fail at playing the flute!
I just bought my second Taylor at Portman’s and was really happy with my experience there. Simon was knowledgeable and friendly, but not pushy, which I really appreciated. He worked with me to get a good deal on a used classical guitar and they even changed the strings out for me while I was there. I live about three hours from Savannah and have a Guitar Center near my home, but I really prefer Portman’s. I don’t get that “I’m a rock star and I’m cooler than you are” vibe like I do from the staff at Guitar Center.
Been shopping with these amazing women and men since 2012. 5 years ago I bought a Jackson RRx24 used and a Blackstar amp idcore40. The other day I went and bought my first tube Amp with the help of Simon. Simon is most bodacious n the ultimate guitar nerd like myself! Jeff has also helped me once or twice and has been mad chill and patient with all my guitar questions and needs. Lastly Eric in back layin it down luthier style hookin up my jackson right now with some EMGs! Eric just finished doing a setup on my Dean and she looks brand new! Shop Local yall!
Great place! They never have the parts I need, but they always tell me where to find them. There bass section is very limited I wish they would improve upon it.
Show up at 7:00 p.m. right at closing and they won’t sell me an external sound card in an emergency. Dude is right at the door just too lazy to sell it to me. You won’t get any more of my business. Edit: management has reached out to me in a very friendly manner and apologized for this situation. Thank you.
Went looking for electric guitar with son. The young man that helped us knew his stuff. Very knowledgeable. Very nice. Very patient. Son returned and bought one next day.
I generally like shopping here, but don’t give them your phone number unless you want to be put on their robocall list. Really. It’s 2019, send an email. NOBODY wants automated phone ads.
Been in this store twice now and each time racial profiling was felt. I will not be returning to this type of behavior.
I currently rent an instrument from Portman’s in Albany Ga and they are wonderful, friendly, helpful can’t say enough about what a great place it is to do business with. However Portman’s in Savannah is another story, the people in charge of billing in Savannah are so incompetent that after 3 phone calls regarding one payment and trying to get something changed l had to go to Albany and with just one quick phone call the matter was resolved. You know what they say about finding good help these days.

Just bought a brand new Orange amp today and I’m so excited! Megan and Max are awesome. So helpful and good at what they do! Very nice folks!
Great store, so glad they had the cello strings I needed. One of mine broke the day before an audition. Super friendly
Renting my daughter’s saxophone from here and getting weekly music lessons. Amazingly sweet and helpful staff!! They really care about the students and it shows. Thank you all!
Friendly, knowledgeable staff and respectable pricing. I’m not a musician, but my wife left impressed.
Very kind staff and plenty of items for sale
The teen girl working was poorly dressed and rude. Having shopped at other locations before, I expected kind, well dressed employees with expert knowledge. That is not that case at this store– at least not with that employee!! This location lost the only good employee they had (the manager Brandon).
I’m truly upset with this store. I received 2 notices in the mail due to my credit card being declined. The reason why my card was declined was because of frauds activities. I went to pay on my daughter’s instrument and they told me that they do not accept payments in the store nor updated the information in their records. This is ludicrous. They need to change their policy. I called twice this week to reach customer service and they has me on hold for a whole hour. Something has to give.

Address: 7700 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA 31406 , Chatham County , Georgia , United States
Good environment, helpful staff. Over all good vibe and good value on purchase.
Need more information served to children seeking their first instrument.
The two gentleman with long hair provided me with great customer service. Very helpful staff and way lower prices than Portmans
Great little place for music equipment or gadgets but there a little pricey
Very friendly employees awesome store.
I’m really glad I went here. Bought my first guitar from this store on opening day. The employees there were extremely helpful and kind. Though opening day was indeed hectic, everyone kept a very calm composure.
Keep in mind though, Portman’s Music Superstore is practically next door. The competition is obvious, and Portman’s is a really good place too, so if you don’t find what you’re looking for at GC, check with your neighbor Portman. 😉
Customer services sucks. Absolutely no one greeted me nor asked if I needed assistance after just walking around for 5 mins or so. Super disappointed heard good stuff word of mouth. Highly dissatisfied that’s my experience. I was looking at electric guitars not drums
Employees were rude, one of them had long hair and the other was short and fat and hard curly hair. They were extremely rude and I’ve bought a lot of stuff here before and won’t be anymore. They freak out on you for playing the equipment and kept trying to laugh at me when I was upset because they could have been polite.
canceled my order because they couldn’t find the item. how in the world do you lose an item that is in YOUR store? absolutely terrible.
6. BWL Music String Instruments
Address: 8312 Kent Dr, Savannah, GA 31406 , Chatham County , Georgia , United States
I need back up,send lawyers, gunsand ukelele parts lol
We have been using BWL for >9 years. True to Savannah’s small business style, Li Zhou (proprietor, pronounced LEE-joe) made me feel comfortable from the first visit and invested in the relationship for the long term. We have purchased 3 violins (1/4, 1/2, 4/4), and had some modifications to a violin-shaped-object. At one time we were thinking about renting, but changed our minds to buying, and he accomodated wonderfully, even though that time we found another seller. He also applied some trade-in credit for our smaller violins.
BWL is a reliable, affordable and knowledgeable business to rent from! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We have rented several instruments from them over the past 10 years (violins, viola, string bass), and all the instruments are in great condition, the rental is very fairly priced, and the Owners know everything there is to know about the instruments, so if you have any questions, you can get answers! We will recommend BWL to everyone we know who needs honest and expert service.
7. Rody’s Music
Address: 311 Mall Blvd, Savannah, GA 31406 , Chatham County , Georgia , United States
Needed some audio connectors that can’t be bought most places. They had what I needed. They also have a good selection of vinyl for sale.
Best place in town for sound! Got a downtown location as well on corner of Anderson and Habersham. Superb vinyl collection at both locations! Staff is awesome and extremely knowledgeable
Will never ask them to do anything again. Over $5000 to put two tvs on the wall and add Sonos sound. Spent 10 HOURS in the house and still couldn’t center a TV on a wall or hide cables properly.
On top of all that, they went into a room they weren’t supposed to be in and cut an “access hole” in the middle of a wall.. Complete bafoons. Will spend the rest of my life telling everybody it’s 1000 times better using Best Buy Geek Squad than these hillbillies from Savannah. Worst decision I ever made.
Use at your own risk!!
8. JL Music Service

Amazing, amazing job playing the harp for our wedding ceremony. It was beautiful and really completed the vibe. We were lucky enough to hear her practice while we had our first look!
Beautiful violin music for a wedding ceremony!! So talented!
Yvonne was great and incredibly easy to work with. JL Music was able to play songs that were traditional and not so traditional for our ceremony! She worked with me on finding the right songs to walk down the aisle to and was very affordable. The use of the quartet was really special and made my ceremony that much more intimate and perfect. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a string band for their special event!
I recently moved from Philly ,and forgot my guitar tuner so I popped in and met Tyler , awesome dude and proprietor , he has a nice selection of really nice acoustic and electric guitars . Lessons are also available here.
Great prices and friendly people
I got the action and intonation setup on my guitar here and the difference is huge. The owner, Tyler, knows all about these instruments and will get you where you need to go.
They are never there!!!
17. Euphoria Sounds Studio
Address: 310 E Montgomery Cross Rd #22, Savannah, GA 31406 , Chatham County , Georgia , United States
Very knowledgeable, professional and flexible on returning equipment when my wife “didn’t like how it looked”
Vinyl LP and audio equipment lovers’ heaven
Great place to dig for vinyl and get your gear repaired
They offer high quality equipment & their service providers are very helpful and professional. They deserve a 5-rating. Office can be slow at getting you scheduled, however.
Treat me like family.
Not much good to say besides pretty good selection, albeit poorly merchandised. The store smells funky and most of the staff, including the owner did not seem very nice. If you’re looking for records, save yourself the time and just go to Grave Face!
Be careful. I was quoted a figure of $10,000 for installation of a basic system, speakers, and security system. When the work was done I was given a bill for $30,000.
Would have given them four stars but: After spending $220 to have Rody’s hoo’k up my electronics, I realized that I forgot to give the tech my headphones to hook up (I have a bi-lateral hearing loss). We moved into a home recently and I have been busy doing the usual move-in chores….Now that things have calmed down, I decided to hook up my head phones. No luck. I’ve tried everything that I could. So, I thought since Rody’s was here a couple of weeks ago, maybe, for a small fee, they could swing by and hook up these damn headphones. I just called Rody’s and the lady told me that it would cost me $135. I couldn’t believe it, especially since I told her they were here a couple of weeks ago. She was pretty curt about it saying that the $135 was their “service call fee”. Well, a couple of things: 1) Rody’s DEFINITELY lost a customer, 2) I will let everyone I know about the piss-poor customer relations on their part.
