Really helpful staff, I bought my first guitar from them and I absolutely love it. Best music store in Cheyenne.
Nice employee and nice store.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff
Easy to find music store, limited inventory due to limited space, friendly staff with knowledge to assist, did not have specific item I was seeking but offered other options in town I might try. Good place to start your musical journey.
i’ve brought my instrument here three times in the same month because they won’t fix it properly but claim it’s fixed when i pick it up, very limited knowledge on instruments. and they made me pay for it every single time when they should have fixed it the first time given it’s the same issue.
Terrible service. Very limited knowledge of instruments. Only intetested in orchestra instruments according to their employee. Used to have friendly employees who were knowledgeable. No more.
4. Niemann & Sons Music
Address: 1609 Central Ave, Cheyenne, WY 82001 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Very friendly, professional, and have affordable prices. Took my son’s guitar in for new strings and they also cleaned it. Looks like new again. Don’t waste your time somewhere else, this is a great music store.
I’ve been aspiring to learn drums for a few years now and music go round has helped me get my feet off of the ground since day one. The manager has been super helpful and helped me get a used set of cymbals (arguably the most expensive piece of a drum kit) for a killer price. ever since then they have been my go to for anything and everything. Their used gear is always at a fair price and the employees are always more than helpful. They are currently the ONLY shop I trust. And have proven to me they are more about helping the musician than they are about the payout. All in all I could not say better things about this store.
Extremely helpful staff
Pretty cool…!!!
Nice service, but if it wasn’t clear enough yet it’s mostly just used gear and selling used gear, nothing else really.
I went in tonight around 6pm to pick up some bass strings. When I walked in, I asked for recommendations on bass strings, as I’ve only bought guitar strings before. The man working there didn’t even come fully out from behind the counter to assist me and made a rude comment when I jokingly asked “What strings does Geddy Lee use?” (The bass player from Rush.)
Honestly, it’s not about the bass strings, the inability to walk fully from behind the counter, or the rude comment and attitude. It’s the fact that I’m trying to support local businesses, and EVERY TIME I go to this store, I’m treated as if I’m an inconvenience.
At Guitar Center, I’m always treated with respect and courtesy. It’s making it really hard for me to want to keep supporting this business when I know that I’ll be treated better somewhere else. A small dose of customer service goes a long way.
If they pretended they were happy to see me just once, it would make a difference. I wear the store’s t-shirt, for crying out loud.
Came in with my wife yesterday. Picked your sign off the ground on my way in the store… someone thanked me. that was the only employee interaction I had in 10 minutes of browsing. Not a single person offered me help or asked me if I wanted to play anything. I was here to spend money. you have 500$ shecktor that would have been sold. and the 170 bass would have been also. and a wireless pickup system. but i felt like i wasn’t valued, i grabbed a couple strings and left. oh well i guess?
Seeminly not kid friendly. Employee was not ok with my child holding a guitar, even with 2 adults supervising him. Told us it was ‘too nice’ and redirected us to a wall with guitars priced the same amount. Really discouraged him and we felt too uncomfortable to continue shopping and left. Post signs to not touch or ask for assistance if you have this problem. We’ll continue my son’s musical journey elsewhere.
Edit: i was only just notified of your response. My friend and I are baffled that you’re saying we would talk about smashing a guitar. Especially after stressing to my son that we have to be gentle and careful with them. That is digisting. I handed him the guitar because that was one of the ones that caught his eye because it was in his favorite color. Imagine that, someone liking the color of a guitar and choosing their first one because of that. We also did not immediately walk to the back of the store. We looked at symbols, then bass guitars. My son was in a wagon because he had a broken leg and couldn’t walk. Which meant that guitar was on his lap, in a safe position, again surrounded by adults. I didn’t want any help by your other staff because we felt uncomfortable, as I stated before. My friend was looking for the things he was looking for. They were not the same thing that my son and I were looking for. It’s ok, though, because my son and I purchased a $1200 guitar at a different location, and he’s been taking his lesson seriously as well as taking very good care of it.
Had good experiences in the past here both buying and selling but chose to offer me $200 for $1500 worth of bass gear. At least guitar center offered me 50% of the total worth. Avoid if you are selling. If you are buying check EVERYTHING over as much of the wind instrument stock has issues.
EDIT: Went back last week to trade another guitar. The salesperson claimed that the neck was twisted (so they of course couldn’t buy it) which was debunked later by a good luthier. I really want to like this store but they don’t employ honest people.
6. Graner School of Music
Address: 4460 Barnes Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80917 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
22 years ago i rented a violin from Graner. Now I’m a working opera singer. Graner has always been my go to for anything music, even when i lived out of town. Between instrument repairs, rentals, practice spaces…. this store is a staple in the Colorado Springs music scene.
Always friendly, super helpful.
These guys are real straight shooters. I’ve taken my instruments to the next level thanks to them.
Edit: special shouts out to Kyle at the guitar counter! Thanks to him I’m annoying all my neighbors and housemates with pure electric power.
Great service, very helpful!
Very helpful. Explained all contracts well, good with kids, instructors onsite. Staff helpful.
Great place for kids to get musical lessons, voice lessons and books and instruments. They also do repairs here
Rental beware! I started a rent to own process about 2015 payed on the instrument for about 4 years and thought so myself hmmm how much is a viola? And why have I payed about $1000 for this one? Their response was wow you definitely don’t owe us anymore money, you over paid, however we do not offer refunds! Wait what? If you do not pay attention they will just keep taking your money and not give it back. Two stars because at least they were nice about. So now I have an instrument that was way over priced.
Did not repair what they said they were going to repair. I trusted them and only realized when my kid went to play it. If they make it right I will update my review. This is absolutely horrible. I can’t believe they would do this to a local school teacher.
Pretty disappointed in all honesty. I was recommended this place by other music stores around town that couldn’t provide what I needed.
The selection of the instruments and accessories seemed to be impressive!
What was most disappointing was the customer service. There was a very nice woman upfront, sadly losing her voice, but was sweet the whole time!
Mike, was not.
To avoid a novel, wording is key! There’s no need to constantly criticize someone’s instrument, constantly tell them to return it because it won’t work, and then try to just sell their inventory.
He seemed knowledgeable when he spoke of the instrument, but to only push for a sale, sad.
After leaving something there and returning to get it, the additional comment of “did you take it back?” Was not needed.
A fellow musician should encourage, not discourage and try to push a sale. As a salesman, if your customer wants a peg, just sell them a peg.
7. Affordable Music
Address: 104 Village Pl, Dillon, CO 80435 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Great selection of new and used, limited releases vinyl. Friendly staff. I found a few records that I had been wanting and they were reasonably priced. I will come back next time I’m in Dillon.
This is one of the best record collections in the state. We had a blast and found some real gems!
A+++
Great store, lots of music, plenty of stringed instruments.
Surprisingly good 45 selection.
I’ve heard good things about it but I was upstairs at pug Ryan’s bar
A shambles. Nothing affordable. Maybe okay for guitars, but not music. Looks like a yard sale gone bad. Used vinyl is poor quality, C- vinyl and covers disorganized and twice the price of Denver. Boxes of unsorted records strewn about. New stuff is full list price. Not worth the effort of stopping. Waste of time
Owner is a racist. He harassed my friend for shopping while black , four times AFTER he bought a CD. We went outside and had to show the police his recite.
Great place to shop if you are worried someone is impersonating you. Don’t shop there if you are black, he might call the cops.
Terrible customer service. Was out of town for a wedding – asked about return policy and he went on a rant about him being a small business and how he would only give store credit. He was very condescending and unprofessional
8. Castle Rock Music
Address: 429 Wilcox St, Castle Rock, CO 80104 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Castle Rock Music is a great place for pickers, players and students. Both of my kids take lessons there and I’m very happy with what they’re learning. There was even a great parlor guitar that I had been playing while the kids were in lessons. Eventually, the owner decided it was as awesome as I thought it was and took it home. Luckily, the manager Dave was able to convince the owner that I really wanted it and I now have a new parlor Fathers Day guitar! Thanks for going above and beyond CRM.
Excellent!
Castle Rock Music is a great store! I have been shopping here for years and will continue to do so. The staff is is very informative about the brands that they carry and can answer pretty much every question you would have. I also like the diversity of the store and their wide range of instruments! Easily the best music store within 50 miles.
I don’t see why many people are giving this place bad reviews, as I have good experience with it. I take guitar lessons here and the mentors are nice. I do feel a tinge of hostility towards me from the front desk workers, but they do seem approachable. I’ve never gone through a repair before with them, but that’s because I’ve never broken a guitar. If it weren’t from the tiny bit of hostility from the workers I would’ve given this place a five, in my experience and work with them.
It says castle rock band store but it’s more of a Guitar store there’s no other instruments.
Singing lessons for our daughter is wonderful. The process is good, prices are acceptable, and the venue is nice.
The shop itself is cute and quaint, but the selection is only very low end. Nothing of value at all. Not even cheap name brand equipment, but just low end non-name brand stuff. No biggie I guess, and I’m sure their selection is ideal for what they’re going for, but you would think at least one Fender or Les Paul would be in there. Haha! Nope. I’m speaking about guitar/bass/amp selection.
Overall, a good place and great for kids or first time people.
Took my mandolin in for a relatively simple repair several months ago. Picking it up today because they are too incompetent to fix it… or call us and provide us with that information.
Don’t waste your time and money. The people that work here are just high school kids who look like they’d rather be anywhere else. I recently bought guitar strings specifically for a classical guitar. I asked the kid for nylon strings and he handed me a pack assuring me that they were the only nylon strings they had. I had my reservations on his assertion as the kid could hardly utter more than a teenage grunt, but I went ahead and got them anyway.
Surprise, surprise, turns out they were all metal strings. When I called to see if I could exchange them someone answered the phone who sounded like he was at least 30. That didn’t matter though since he said I opened the package that there was nothing they could do. Seriously? A brand new set of strings and you can’t take them back or exchange them? How bout you repackage them?
It’s all good though as there is nothing that I need to do at this particular place of business. I can always find another store to give my money to.
Now try hiring some staff that actually care about music and know what they’re talking about.
Rude staff who act as though you should know everything they know. Sad they have no competition in Castle Rock. TOTALLY lacks customer empathy!
9. Boomer Music Company
Address: 3761 S Mason St, Fort Collins, CO 80525 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Super helpful and kind while doing a cello appraisal.
We’ve had a great experience with them every time.
Here we have some honest 2heaven Master’s of of music always & in ALL WAYS and definitely know what they’re talking about; so please head over & give them a shot! I promise that they will leave you impressed, and educated more than ya thought were even possible they are truly great folks ✌️ !!!¡¡¡!!!
Always has what I’m looking for or can find it.
Needing a larger selection of classical piano solos
Because I no longer go there to get music sheets
We made an appointment to get our bari sax looked at and to get it repaired and drove 3.5 hours to the store when we got there we were told oh no we have to put it in a bag and let it set in our store 5 days then we can look at it and decide if we can fix it or not. that was never told to us on the phone before we made the drive. the person was a total jerk and could careless about or sax I would never recomend using boomer music for any work they just dont understand the meaning of customer service
I wouldn’t get a gift certificate for anyone from this place… My husband tried to use his after just a few years and they wouldn’t honor it!! It makes it hard to support locally when things like this happen.
Find an alternative place! Owner is not reasonable businessman. Zero stars if there was one.
10. Music Go Round
Address: 8055 W Bowles Ave #2C, Littleton, CO 80123 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Scott and his staff are a class act who run one of the best stores in the country. I’ve known them for years, and they continue to improve their store year after year. Recommended!
I stopped by with my 12 year old daughter looking for a bass guitar. The staff was friendly, attentive, made sure we had space and time to play a number of instruments, and checked in with us just enough to make sure we were okay. For a music store, it was a really comfortable experience. They had a really nice selection of used instruments and gear in decent shape. Now I have to convince my kid we can only buy one bass instead of the four that she liked.
I’m an old-school bassist and a lefty, and worked at a music shop for years when I wasn’t gigging. I felt right at home at this place.
UPDATE:
Store owner Jason followed up on his promise to resolve the situation. I stopped by the other day and Jason refunded the purchase in full and made this right. The receipt doesn’t mention needing to have original packaging for returns as Dan originally said, so the return should have been accepted within the 10 days we first returned but because store owner Jason did make this right in the end I am therefore changing my rating from one star to four stars.
Bought a sax mouthpiece for the saxophonist performing for an event I hosted. The mouthpiece was defective and she was unable to perform meaning the trio could not perform either. We took the mouthpiece back the next day and manager Jason would not accept return of the defective mouthpiece even with the receipt in hand claiming it there was nothing wrong even though the saxophonist is a top performer in the area. We would expect better from a nationwide chain.
Staff is a great bunch of guys who have a grasp of what’s what about musical instruments. It used to be a good place to sell your used appointment. I would give you a a decent price but nowadays they won’t even give you a price better than what a pawn shop will give you. I’ve noticed in last couple of years their prices have gone up. They don’t negotiate the prices, which puts customer at a disadvantage Because condition is a huge part in what you pay. I will still stop in and check their inventory. But not as often as I used to.
Very knowledgable and helpful
Every time I buy gear here something is wrong with it. Just paid $60.00 for a set of Gibson Deluxe tuners. Installed them and two of the cover fell off. Someone had cut the tabs off all the covers. Really tired of the lack of attention to the functionality of the gear they sell. Will not buy here again!
I implore all parents who are considering using this business for their child’s band or orchestra needs to re-consider and look at other options-and YES! there are other options! (this place works overtime to make you think otherwise!) This place will rip you off! I went with Kolancy’s for my 2nd child’s needs-they are more reputable and professional by far, and they actually care what condition their instruments are in when they leave the store!
No Scott, I won’t respond to you, I tried to have things rectified while at your store and you and your employees couldn’t have been any more dismissive or rude, but somehow now you care? Oh, I see, others can read this. Also, my bad experience happened at YOUR store Music go Round, not Music and Arts. I hope others read Joshua Fenner’s review as well since it perfectly captures what other parents and friends
have said they also endured as a customers over the years. I might have to drive farther for instrumental needs but it is well worth it!
Bought a DJ mixer online and paid shipping. Called up after 3 days as I didn’t receive any update about my order. Guy told me that they sold the mixer at the store and will just issue me a refund. What a joke of a store.
11. Guitar Center
Address: 813 E Harmony Rd, Fort Collins, CO 80525 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Staff was friendly and helpful. But not all salesman pushy or theft prevention stalker like. Service was quick and informative regarding my purchase. Not to mention navigable parking lot.
I brought my bass here to have some fret filing done. Victor Glaze did an exceptional job! Everyone was helpful and kind, and the turnaround time was lightning fast.
Great music store. Helpful, friendly staff. Keep up the great work!
Good crew of knowledgeable people.
Helpful, friendly staff. Large stock of anything you might want to create music with.
It’s located on the left of Kohls, not inside of Kohls, as GM have it.
overpriced guitars and they won’t even let me uncover my nose to breath. sorry if I don’t like breathing my own got breath.
Has been sub-par when going for specific gear. The person assisting us knew alot about one specific type of microphone. Any of those are great for music, but lacked the knowledge of the types of microphones used in videography. I get that it’s “Guitar Center” , however, I dont appreciate being treated like I don’t know what I am speaking of. This is because the employee thought what they had in their store was the only types that exist. We was able to find better microphones elsewhere. This used to be my place, but I cannot trust employees who are over confident about things they don’t know. Instead of being able to guide us, or say they dont carry those types.
The manager treated my friend very badly for not wearing a mask and called the police on him after harassment from him in the store. My friend and a buddy of ours were just trying to enjoy our night. He has a condition that doesn’t permit him to wear masks and the manager did not care. He should be fired for refusing him service and discriminating against his condition.
12. Guitar Hut
Address: 1385 Forest Park Cir #106, Lafayette, CO 80026 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Best prices on services and most helpful guitar people in the Boulder area, hands down. I spent some time in the shop on a few occasions and without fail felt welcome trying out every guitar on the wall and their amps. I was going to get the wiring harness, pickups, pots, and hardware (bridge, tuning pegs, etc) completely replaced on my Hamer, as it was a genuinely good deal on labor and parts at this shop (beating out Guitar Center and Woodsong’s) but I had to leave Colorado unexpectedly a couple days after getting the estimate, otherwise I would have had it done there. Highly recommended.
This place is so hype. Sick guitars, dope customer service, lit pics and fret wraps. Place is literally so buss frfr
My son is 16. He paid for his guitar and amp there and I’m paying for his lessons. He really loves it there. Great service too. They really take the time to help you figure out the best options for you!
I had these guys take a look at a signature bass of mine. It had some electrical problems going on with it that were a bit out of their knowledge base but Evan is great guy. Very honest and very hard working. I will return with any other problems I have in the future and I would recommend them. Their pricing is very fair and they are willing to help out customers any way they can.
I called to sign my boys up for guitar lessons and had a few options worked out and was told I would be called back to confirm which times worked. I never heard back. Then, when I called back to confirm options, I was told they didn’t have any of my information logged and there were no longer any time slots available for lessons.
Everyone I have met there seems very nice, but very poorly organized.
13. HB Woodsongs
Address: 3101 28th St, Boulder, CO 80301 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Great store, with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Never had an issue with anything I’ve bought there.
Great local music shop. Mostly acoustic stuff, but some electric stuff too. The staff is friendly and helpful. Fantastic string selection. Used and new instruments. They’ve got all the essentials if you are a touring band passing through town. There is a reason they have been around for 50 years.
Woodsongs is a Boulder institution, and for good reason. In a day and age where Big box stores and the internet are trying to kill small businesses, Woodsongs offers all the alternative solutions. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and willing to share, and the selection is astonishing. If you love music, instruments and local, please continue to support this locally owned business.
Small but nice musical instruments stores. They don’t have a lot of stuff (my only complaint), but you be able to find some accessories and also some high-end acoustic guitars. Salespersons are friendly and they also have a music school in this place.
Attentive staff. Good selection. Prices are average to high.
Great ukalele selection
Very friendly staff, unfortunately way over-priced. You can find some of the exact same items on ebay or Amazon for less than half the price at this store.
14. Flipside Music
Address: 2231 S Platte River Dr, Denver, CO 80223 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Ike and Dylan are really friendly and helpful. I go to them for a lot of my gear needs
Great gear and great prices. I love guitar pedals and this place has an amazing selection. Not only do they have a wide variety from the big companies, they support smaller boutique and local builders as well. I like ambient, fuzzes, and synth, the stranger the better. Talking to people who can point me to the weird as well as explain the plain jane stuff has upped my tone and sound game tremendously.
If you like electric guitars, you must visit Flipside Music! Unbelievable selection of guitars and pedals here, and the staff is so nice! Check them out.
Best service in this category
Very knowledgeable staff and unique instruments
Great place
Overly expensive and also lots of homeless people hanging outside on the street near by. It’s a dump.
15. GLENWOOD MUSIC
Address: 3102 Blake Ave D, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 , Cheyenne County , Colorado , United States
Great, knowledgeable people and a nice rotating inventory!
I’ve been coming here for eight years and will continue to use them for all of my music and music tech needs forever!
All of the staff is kind and knowledgeable.
I’ve had guitars and speakers repaired here, purchased a sound system and lighting with their expert guidance, and found all kinds of odds and ends that I’ve needed in a pinch.
I cannot recommend them highly enough!
Guess you’re not open until 6pm…
Nice store!
Took guitar lessons, glade I did..
Terrible service. Always regret spending money there because of the service.
Very disrespectful people. I hate spending my money there but it’s the only local music store 🙁
Customer service is absolutely awful. The rudest staff I have ever had to deal with. They are so pompous and rude I am sad I gave them my money. If you aren’t knowledgeable about music DONT GO HERE, the staff is terrible to customers who don’t know music. I would recommend taking your business elsewhere or just shopping online. Not one member of the staff is nice and helpful, worst musical experience ever!
