It’s a great store with a good variety of gold rush items. They even have pocket watches.
Wonderful little bookstore for booklovers!!
Beautiful editions for classic literature and more.
Friendly staff too!
I will visit again.
Great place to learn about the Gold Rush! The shopkeeper has a plethora of knowledge and is a joy to talk to. Thank you! I had a great visit.
Pretty neat store! Lots of books to choose from, more so classics and history. Had some other neat costume type items and my personal favorites were the calligraphy quills, leather bound journals, and wax seal kits!
A good collection of books some being rare
2. Parrott’s Blacksmith Shop
Address: 11255 Jackson St, Columbia, CA 95310 , Columbia , California , United States
I’m writing this to counter a recent 1-star review, as my experience there was completely different. But that was in 2007! The blacksmith might have been taciturn, but that doesn’t mean indifferent. If it was the same guy; I’ve attached his photo.
Such beautiful pieces in this shop.
My son loves his horseshoe with his name engraved in it .
The gentleman was super nice to my family .
We will be back for more memorabilia on our next trip.
Great blacksmith. Resized ring for free. Great merchandise. Great place for Columbia souvenirs
Gentlemen that works there is absolutley rude and very unprofessional. If your not happy with your job quit. Can’t believe he works in a historic site that is toured daily with children.
3. Live Oak Music
Address: 14791 Mono Way, Sonora, CA 95370 , Columbia , California , United States
This store is great! The instruments are beautiful and the gentleman at the counter really knows what he’s talking about. I came in for a ukulele tuner but was able to look around and try out other instruments without feeling rushed or pressured. The gentleman at the front counter even gave me an a short lesson on the differences in ukulele sizes and showed me the differences in the banjos I was looking at. The atmosphere is very low stress here, which is important to me (being that my social anxiety is so high). You can tell real music lovers work here.
I thought that it was the most amazing music shop I’ve been to! And the owner, Ron, was very nice, helped me pick out my guitar, and had jammed out music with me. A small shop in my opinion, but very nice.
I’m out in the area visiting a friend and I just had to buy a guitar. Great customer service. Great prices on gear.
Friendly and fast service
I’ve known the owner for many years. I bought an amp and he beat the best on-line price for the same product. So happy to do business local like that.
Great owner….great place…..excellent information….
4. Towle & Leavitt-1853
Address: State & Main, Columbia, CA 95310 , Columbia , California , United States
What a cool store! don’t miss it when you’re in Columbia, or even nearby. And make sure to talk with the owner. She’s got a ton of great stories and her own story is quite amazing as well ….
I grew up in Columbia and went to the Mercantile on an almost daily basis as a kid. I heard that Teresa, the new owner was reopening it so I made it the main reason for driving from Salem to Columbia for vacation this year. Stop in, say hi to Teresa and tell her you heard about the place from Dale, she will know who you are talking about.
Sweet little, but quality orientated and comple food store. I was in the hunt today for bakery, and bagged insanely great fresh baked sourdough boulle from Raymond’s (S. SF), and ridiculously delicious strawberry rhubarb pie from The Pie Co (ripon). But I also ended up with some specialty meats, a reasonably priced local award-winning wine and a few staples (peanut butter cookies and biscotti are staples, right?)
6. Ebler’s Leather & Saddle Empr
Address: 22751 Main St, Columbia, CA 95310 , Columbia , California , United States
Beautiful local shop. Some of the nicest pieces of silver & Turquoise jewelry.
Used & new cowboy boots . Good prices too.
The cutest shop in Columbia. They have an amazing selection of leather boots, clothes, jewelry, and souvenirs! They have great prices and quality. The people working are so nice and friendly. Definitely a go to when visiting Columbia.
Love the place. Enormous variety of products. The quality is really good (so the prices are in consequence not too cheap) but you will buy something for sure. Boots, hats, clothes, leather products, belts, buckles, mocasines, jewelry, souvenirs (key chains, leather details and much more), adornments for the house… if you don’t have an idea of what to buy as a souvenir, walk around the three rooms of this shop and you will be inspired for sure!
So sad to give this store a one star. I have been coming to Columbia for 20 years. I went to buy our dog a collar and my other half and I were wanting to split the cost. The lady who owns this store said no because it costs too much for her to run two separate cards she did not have to be rude about telling us it costs too much for her. Definitely made this trip unpleasant. I’m never bringing my business here again.
One of the ladies working there was very disrespectful with little to no help, made the visit and experience profoundly disappointing.
7. Columbia Kate’s Teahouse
Address: 22727 Columbia St, Columbia, CA 95310 , Columbia , California , United States
Located in Columbia State Historical Park, offers traditional tea and hearty traditional favorites like chicken pot pie. Great selection of unique teas, some are house blend originals. Baked goods are produced in house and super fresh.
Amazing as always. I love seeing Claire especially when she takes care of my order herself.
Kate’s is a teahouse with a twist. They not only have the expected traditional freshly brewed loose leaf teas but many custom blends, too, including blackberry – a great choice for iced tea on a hot summer afternoon! Kate’s serves a traditional English tea with tiny crustless sandwiches and freshly backed scones with clotted cream and jam. However, unique salads, sandwiches and entrees like chicken pot pie (yum!) and meatloaf makes Kate’s a great stop fir lunch. The Nest salad topped with Kate’s own chicken salad is a delight. The Cowboy sandwich with warm sliced roast turkey and real bacon bits on house baked bread is oh so good. Finally, don’t even get me started on the house baked pastries, croissants, scones and cookies – wow! And if it’s a nice day, relax with your tea or luncheon in the outdoor garden and then stroll through Columbia, an historic gold rush town with a working blacksmith, stables, and a well-stocked Merchantile. If you have the time, check out a play at Sierra Repertory Theatre, a performing arts theater with an old fashioned ice cream parlor in the lobby!
I am a local, have dined for many years, always enjoyed the food and relaxed atmosphere.bring friends for lunch to spend time catching up,never had a problem until this last visit which also was my second lunch in one week. We were seated outside with a reservation, everything great.spent 1 hour from time seated until time left.as the owner herself said they needed the table and hurried us out. We were finishing with our drinks.i have to say I was so bothered by this as I made reservations and wasn’t there that long, about 30 minutes actually eating
Bizarre lunch restaurant claiming to be a tea house. Standard lunch fare but done well. Dressings overly sweet but good iced tea. Nice patio but hideous knick-knacks everywhere.
Excellent selection and teas. Food is very good, a bit pricey, $57 for 2 people.
But good service and tasty treats. Great on a rainy day.
Slow service and food could be better might have been a off day for them.
Went inside this afternoon while looking around town with my lady. It was hot and we wanted something cool to drink and a snack. Was never greeted. Was ignored. After the women helped the nice lady who came in after we did we were not even spoken to. We waited patiently and not one of the workers would acknowledge our presence or even make eye contact. Obviously a self proclaimed Brit tea house is too good to serve paying Cornish patrons. Discrimination is alive and well in that little tea shack.
Today we went to Columbia kate’s Teahouse and ordered ice tea, we got tea but no ice. So I asked the server “Can we get some ice plz?” She said that they were out of ice.So we had to drink a warm (ice) tea intead of cold ” ICE ” Tea. We do not recommend anyone to go there. Their Service
is horrible and i am very disappointed.
8. Sierra Rep’s Fallon House Theatre
Address: 11175 Washington St, Columbia, CA 95310 , Columbia , California , United States
Nice small theater. The production was great. I am looking forward to seeing more productions in the future.
Saw a play last month Fantastic!!! (State Fair)
We went there with a group didn’t know what to expect and it was kind of neat in that they use the format of a radio show with the cast members playing multiple parts. They even have a guy who is one of the actors doing the sound effects. Nice drive good company enjoy your performance.
Ok, if you like musicals.
Great small intimate theatre. Saw Jersey Boys there. Great cast.
Great little town. We went to see Sherlock Holmes. Unfortunately, the seats were horrific! I paid 70 something $ to look at the back of someone’s head. I even moved but it didn’t help. My mom said the play was great. So she would probably give it a 5 star
Net flix bud
Get over the mask requirement. I refuse to attend any event that requires one. Sorry. I used to enjoy your theater
Very neat shop to check out! They make all of the items with a green price tag themselves!
Very very cool. Blacksmiths dressed in old west garb while making wares and doing demonstrations. My kids loved it. We bought a set of candle holders that look great in our dining room — they always get noticed and complimented.
Just like the old days, there’s a lot of custom stuff he can make you.
Very nice and clean store filled with treasures! Lori has done a great job with this shop! There is literally something for everyone! Stop in show your support for a local woman owned small business! You will be glad you did!
