Got what I went after even good good food next door !!!
Brought two of my guitars there for service and upgrades (Rickenbacker 360/12 & Gibson J160E) and they did a fantastic job. Carlton was recommended and I’m glad I went.
Wonderful staff
Was told that they do not give their wifi password to customers? Why?
Always a good experience
The Carlton’s have been deeply involved and supportive of local musicians for at least 40 years. They are musicians themselves and regularly perform. Not gonna get cheap prices…but the people and support are really great.
Glen is a monster bassist.
Went in there to buy a drum head because Guitar Center wasn’t open yet or I’d certainly have went there instead. EVERYTIME I’m in this store I get watched and questioned like I’m going to steal something. It’s a very uncomfortable environment. No other customer was in there yet, and as soon as I walk in, they’re all stopping what they’re doing and looking at me asking if I needed help, and I said “I’m just getting a drum head…thank you.”, and I wasn’t looking for 2 minutes, and heard another employee say “everything okay over there?”….YES GEEZ!!!! Can someone take a few minutes and decide what product they want!? Just because you’re looking doesn’t mean you’re plotting a GD theft! It’s a $20 drum head! Gimme a friggin’ break! And ya know…much to their surprise…I PAID FOR IT! Guitar Center sucks too, but at least they give you freedom to comfortably browse at inventory without being asked what you’re doing. There’s no excuse for that behavior. Innocent until proven guilty….not in that place, it’s guilty until they see otherwise. From now on, I’ll wait for Guitar Center to open. I won’t spend another dime in Carlton until they get the FBI…I mean, their employees under control…
Upon entering, a bald head older male with glasses shot up to ask if I needed help (never mentioned his name). I asked about an instrument since he was the first one up. The guy was short with answers and giving a vibe that he did not want to attend me, throwing a book down back and forth. I watched another gentlemen’s with longer hair pull the same book out and explain in detail with people very nicely. I informed that guy, we were new to this experience and were recommended there by a local music teacher. The guy kept leaving me to go assist other customers, get on his phone to verify our information, stopping to call someone to ask for help and told me if I don’t provide a reference he will charge me a $200 deposit. I was forced to call a reference and put someone down on paper I did not want to. Then the guy left me to decide…
After being alone for a while, another gentlemen came to help & was a great. I explained the situation and how I was feeling. He apologized for the other guy and stated, “I’m sorry for him, that’s just his personality”. I stated to the new guy, he should know if he doesn’t want to fully assist a person and immediately ask another associate to help. He agreed. When the new guy asked the old guy if he already verified my information, he lied and told him no. That’s when I got upset and asked, why he lie like that?
Being a single small business owner for 20 years, a husband, father and grandfather I understand protocol/business. I felt discriminated by this guy & his demeanor, skepticism and unfair treatment which is a huge concern for me. We rented the D grade instrument and left …
After discussing with my wife, we found an A grade instrument and a trumpet and paid cash for them and drove 4 hours to go pick it up. Monday was Labor Day so we didn’t visit the store to return the instrument. I visited the location today to return the saxophone because my wife and I made a decision not to do business with people like RP… RP is the bald guys name I learned today…
Today, I was returning the instrument. Matt was the gentleman that was helping me today. In speaking with Matt, the bald head guy “RP” took it upon himself to continually and rudely interject into the conversation. Stating he needs to call the corporate office to verify return policy. As I was asking Matt questions for clarity, RP took it upon hisself to keep answering for Matt and give me a card when I can return the instrument. I asked RP to excuse hisself from our conversation and allow me to deal with Matt. He rudely stated, go ahead and finish with him and I will write the notes on his file.
As a State Official for 6 years, this gives me the indication that RP wants to attempt control the narrative with our story now and I’m on the defensive side of this situation. Even after being asked not to interject with my conversations, RP doesn’t seem to understand how I’m feeling at this point…
So, from RP calling corporate, I now know there is one & find myself calling the corporate office and spoke with Glen. Glen is working to make things right and once again, on another business day, apologized for the RP’s behavior!
For the guys that are picking up the scraps for RP, I’m giving a 2 Star Rating.
RP needs training on empathy, customers service & how to discern when NOT to service a customer AKA stay out of it! I hope he takes the courses to become better at what he does someday. We forgive you buddy, we just won’t ever do business with you!
Their sales associates have the worst customer service I’ve ever seen.
Hooked me up deal on 2 of my vehicles full set tweet, amps,eq, subs for charger dash and tweets for the altima! Will find a way to hook you up without breaking your pockets and sacrificing quality… I’ll be back soon!

Es un pawnshop muy bien preparado, tienen de todod. Se los recomiendo al
I have purchased several items from this location, the employees are always pleasant and helpful compared to most other pawn shops where they could care less if you stopped in there shop or not. Way to go Max Pawn, the owner must be doing something right!
This pawn shop is very nice! They’re nice and fair and go the extra mile to help!
ppl that work there are pretty cool always polite and helped me out of there own pockets when i was having a bad day
What made me stop was the zero turn mowers outside. I figured I’d stop in and see what other lawn tools they had. I came it with two co-workers all of us wearing a mask. This is a very secure location so we were buzzed in. I’m not sure who said hey first but we did feel welcome. The guy behind the counter was discussing a possible sale with a customer so instead of just asking directly because he was busy we just easily seen the isle we wanted and went to view the tools. They have a great assortment of things for sale but my main focus was tools.
Dana treated me well. She was fair in what she offered me for my items.
Purchase the Sawzall plugged it in the electric part of the engine work but when you put a blade in it it will not cut refuse to return my money even after I asked her if this doesn’t work properly I can bring it back correct well she said she never said that all sales are final everything is as is pretty sad way to do business
Sold my boss a Taurus 357 that was super glued together..
Dont pawn anything here they lowball the hell out of you.
8. Illcommunications Studios

My favorite place to go. Is Disney world for music geeks.
I’m not one for gushing in my reviews BUT:
This place is awesome… it doesn’t just have guitars, they have keyboards and drums, supplies for recording, and they have a room for lessons! It’s super clean, well organized, and has just about anything you could need.
Every associate in the place is polite and helpful. I took them the guitar I bought my niece as Christmas gift, it came broken and I was looking for a replacement piece… but they have a repair man in house! It was a simple fix, he did it right in front of me in 10 minutes and when I asked how much, he said “Merry Christmas” and didn’t charge me a thing.
I’ll gladly make the 35 minute drive to Lakeland to visit these guys again if my niece needs anything else.
Amables y variedad de instrumentos ,libros etc
Once I was able to get someone to answer my question I was able to make a decision and leave with the keyboard I wanted.
Staff not very helpful but still enjoy going to guitar centers
Whoever that guy is in audio, I believe his name is Sam. He works during the daytime is completely ignorant and rude. He doesn’t seem to be genuinely interested in customers concerns and seems to have an I don’t care about anybody but myself attitude. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS… Tried to give the benefit of the doubt. WITH THAT BEING SAID, I’ve been to this guitar center at night and had an absolutely amazing experience mostly with that one young gentleman who is manager I believe as well as some younger folks that work there. They walked me through everything, let me test what was needed, even sparked interest without me having to say anything. It’s a shame, they have more manners and respect than supposedly seasoned vets…
Couldn’t get any assistance in pro sound.
Purchased a guitar amp online used but when I received it didn’t come with a power cord. If a product they are selling don’t come with all its components then it should be noted on the website in the description.
Poor customer service! Staff is not coordinated and don’t know much about their products!
11. Absolute Pawn
Address: 1003 N Combee Rd, Lakeland, FL 33801 , Combee Settlement , Florida , United States
They are very helpful and they have a great heart when it comes to helping people
Best ever
been to a lot of pawnshops, but this one is the best ive seen..friendly reliable
top dollar for pawns
They are at least trying to be what it means to be a pawn shop however the security is too low all of their things end up everyone’s things.. Maybe they are a non-profit organization. But anyway the people in the community knows who they are and they seem to be enjoyable people.
Staff is very friendly, helpful, and knows their product! Recommend highly! Jewelry, electronics, guns, cars, boats, RVs — they have it all!
Had to take my tablet up here and pawn it because of emergency purpose. The owner is real reasonable and extremely curdious and polite. He will work with you to help you out.
terrible store, employees are rude, store stinks and items are overpriced, do your self a favor and stay away from this place, RUN RUN RUN AWAY FAST
12. JC’s Family Music
Address: 3250 Kathleen Rd, Lakeland, FL 33810 , Combee Settlement , Florida , United States
Jeff was very helpful in getting my son a trumpet.
JC’s Family Music is amazing! They went above and beyond, driving 45 minutes out of their way, just to make sure my son had his violin for his lesson at school! They are so helpful, kind and truly care about children having access to music! I am truly impressed with their personable service! My sons happiness and preparedness was just as important to them, as it is to me. I can’t thank them enough! I would highlyrrecommend them for all of your music needs!
They cater to beginner musicians, middle income families and band rentals for students . They are knowledgeable and friendly with attention to customer service. Nice little neighborhood shop.
Been coming to Gcpawn for awhile and Betty an Dru always take good care of me and treats me like family.
Andrew, Betty, and Cassie are excellent!
Nelly and Ricky took very good care of me!! Everyone at GC pawn is very down to earth and good ppl to deal with. I will recommend them to anyone. MONEY WELL SPENT ONCE AGAIN
I’ve been here few time before always Great service good people willing to help out
My roommate and I happened to be passing by, and noticed that a new pawn shop had opened, so we stopped in to check the place out. There was a cool selection of items and most of them were reasonably priced. They were fairly busy at the time, so doing business with the 3 associates behind the counter took a bit, but most of them were extremely friendly and courteous.
I recommend checking prices on your phone when shopping in this store, just to make sure you’re getting the best deal. I had looked at a Nintendo Switch game that was going for about $50 used(retailed new is $60). Unfortunately, local retailers had it on sale for $45, so I didn’t buy it. However, they had a copy of Legend of Zelda for the Super Nintendo for $19. I was pretty excited about scoring a good deal on a game that was missing from my collection, until it came time to check out. Now, the guy I was working with was SUPER awesome, and I don’t blame him one bit, but I gotta point out to anybody who’s gonna shop here: BRING CASH! Using a debit card is a trial in patience and giving these people the OBSCENE amount of information they asked for led me to feel nothing but uncomfortable about the transaction, all because I was using a debit card. Their 24- hour return policy, coupled with a “restocking fee” for debit-card sales is absolutely ridiculous, and literally NO other pawn shop around the area requires all of this. The gentleman taking my information, however, was very apologetic about it, and gave me an even better deal on the game for the hassle, so that was helpful in making me feel slightly more comfortable about this purchase, but yeah, bring cash and save yourself a migraine. I’d shop here again (with cash).
PS: I will point out that my roommate commented to me that it was a bit ridiculous to hide the price tags of the firearms underneath them. He wanted to know the prices of several of them, but didn’t wanna bother anybody to go look, since it was so busy in the store at the time. I’m inclined to agree with him. I also glanced at the firearms, since I’m a bit of an enthusiast and have considered expanding my arsenal, but the moment I saw no prices, I moved on.
Rickey help me out alot thanks..
I had very bad experience with them I called them for the first time to try to do business with. Them and had me on hold for over 20 mins probly won’t even do bussiness with them again!!
Do not recommend! Crooks!
Went in there yesterday to purchase ammo. The lady’s was very helpful but that dude Ricky had a chip on his shoulder when asked a simple question about ammo. I ain’t appreciate that therefore I’m staying away.
15. Jimmy’s Vintage Music
Address: 108 Main St, Auburndale, FL 33823 , Combee Settlement , Florida , United States
Jimmy’s vintage is always one of the go to music stores in central florida. I needed a bigger rack mount case for my rare Mako Mak 4 pre amp, and a power amp to give it power to run some sound through it. He just so happen to have an vintage 90’s solid state Peavey power amp and a classic anvil hard shell rack case for a solid price out the door for both. If you haven’t been to his shop, you’re missing out.
Chuck and Jimmy fine people great shop
Great store! The guys that run it are super friendly, knowledgeable and honest. Great prices and good quality instruments.
Vintage all the way… Very nice to deal with.. will go out of there way to help you….
Pretty neat shop, some of the stuff is dusty but in good conditions.
Downtown location
I have done many transactions with Jimmy’s vintage music. I recently traded him a brand new Eric Johnson Stratocaster for a 1965 Gibson es 125. The Gibson had high action and needed to have the neck reset at a cost of $400, so he said.
I took the guitar from Florida to Nashville Tennessee to a luthier who says not only is the neck joint destroyed but the neck has a crack in it from over tightening the truss rod and the guitar has been in a fire. I am out $2,000 because of this.
I will not be going back to Jimmy’s vintage music at any cost.
I’m always up front with anything and everything that I sell and I let people know what the issues are.
I feel I’ve been completely screwed over in this transaction and I am not happy. When I texted Jimmy he called me screaming obscenities as if I had done something wrong.
There are a lot of other places to buy instruments other than someone lack of integrity.
They were closed
Im never buying from this store ever again. I bought a Tele and when I took the tele to my guitar tech for a setup he found out some frets were not even with the rest. I told Jimmy that I wanted to change the tele for another one in his store that was the same price. He tells me that he takes the guitar back but I needed to give him $100. I tell him that Im not selling the guitar back to him for a trade.. Im returning the guitar and I was gonna get another guitar that was at the same price. He then started to ask me about my guitar tech.. assuming my guitar tech was the one that damaged the guitar. I ended up paying to get the guitar fixed. Very unprofessional and it speaks volumes when an owner of a store is willing to loose a client over $100. Never coming back.
