Amazing staff, amazing store. Come take your time and have a look around, or dash in and get what you forgot for your main street gig, they have you covered.
The only place I’ll take my guitars for a spa day.
Ask about their custom amplifiers while you’re in, they sound and look great. A worthy addition to any music making arsenal.
Healthy blend of used vintage gear and new product.
I would say little to no price difference between this and Amazon on any quality music gear (the $7 guitar strap from Amazon is gonna perform like a $7 strap), and here you get what you need immediately and you support a local business. Win win.
This place is a Durango musicians best friend.
I love going into Jimmy’s and do so as often as possible. Great that Durango has this gem of a music store. I often get to chatting with Jim, and he has a great selection of guitars/amps/supplies. Thank you!
Jimmy has excellent customer service
Cute store pack with tons of things.
Good local music, guitar store
Jimmy’s music was very nice store however seemed understaffed.
They did not have what we were looking for.
Had my mind set on buying a new piano keyboard and supporting this local music store in Durango and to know that the workers (maybe even the owners) don’t know how to treat their customers is very disappointing. When I walked in I wasn’t greeted, even after a few minutes I wasnt asked how I was doing or IF I NEEDED HELP FINDING ANYTHING. I know what you’re thinking “maybe he was busy” nooooo! Because there was another worker there and no one else was in the store. I wasn’t addressed or anything until I was about to leave. I know I’m an adult and maybe I should have just asked him myself but if I’m gonna spend a few hundred dollars at your store then I’d expect to be treated like it let alone be WELCOMED INTO THE STORE! But my question is why? Did I not looked like a serious buyer? Was it cause I was wearing a mask? Or was it cause I was brown? My questions are valid and justified through the actions of the workers. Sad to know that people are treated differently for whatever reason. Such a bad impression on the community and very disappointing experience.

Hometown service, extremely knowledgeable. Timely work and great overall experience.
Had a banjo that needed some love and Dave was the man for the job. Great attention to detail and completely satisfied with the craftsmanship for the repairs. See Dave he’ll get you set up.
Dave does awesome work and is a really friendly guy. Brought in a bass to get the neck replaced and set up. Finished the job exactly when he said he would and charged a fair price. The setup on it is fantastic, the bass is sounding better than ever. He even offered to let me bring it back to have the action adjusted for free if I decide I want it lowered. Will be going to him for all stringed instrument work from now on.
I thank god for my few friends!!
Not trust worthy, I took a violin. You chipped it, it was not tuned and stings are slipping. And please do not contact me thru Facebook. The instrument was brand new had no chips. No it was not high quality although is worth more than you claim it to be. You did not deliver quality work, I will not be going back to you. Have a splendid day sir.
3. Xylem Basses & Guitars
Address: 345 Rogers Ln, Durango, CO 81303 , Dove Creek , Colorado , United States
I brought a guitar and a ukulele for repair. Anthony was extremely responsive, worked very quickly, and even took the time to educate me about how to replace the strings (weird on my guitar). 5 stars, definitely bringing any other repairs to him.
To say that Anthony merely goes above and beyond for his customers would be an understatement of the century… He makes dreams come true.
I’m very honoured to be the proud owner of two of his creations thus far. The first is a 5-string electric bass, (Calypso) which has truly been an absolute pleasure to play over the years. It wasn’t custom built for me, but it feels like it was…. That’s how much I can attest to the quality and craftsmanship of his work.
The second instrument is a 5-string Piccolo bass (Gymir) that was designed completely custom for me, right down to the smallest detail. He had the patience of a saint, corresponding with me over the course of several years through dozens upon dozens of email conversations, as my vision of what I wanted evolved throughout the design and construction phase. I’ve had the instrument for almost a couple months now and initially I was just completely blown away by the quality of it. As the weeks went by, I noticed just how much love, care and thought Anthony puts into every aspect of his instruments. The ergonomics and playability of them are unparalleled, in my humble opinion.
There is so much more that I would like to say, and I will update this review at some point in the future when I get some more time to do so.
Anthony is an incredibly kind person, very patient, and an amazing Luthier. His customer service is second to none. I would wholeheartedly recommend Xylem Basses and Guitars to any person out there.
I don’t trust anyone with my guitars except Anthony. He is honest, meticulous, and detail oriented. Anthony does great repair, set up, and wiring work. He is also an awesome custom bass and guitar builder. His pricing is more than fair and I cannot recommend Anthony at Xylem Basses and Guitars enough.
Very poor communicator and sub par builder. Instrument electronics failed. Expects some sort of payment for repairs and setups, due to lack of attention to his builds. Not another luthier on the planet that would expect this. Instrument build was not what was ordered and all in all a horrible experience. There are far better builders to get your needs done in a much more professional way especially for what he is charging. Not worth the money. Very unprofessional. In response, never was there such agreement and response from builder is fabricated. Builder became agressive and angry (on christmas day, while I was with family no less) because he refused to meet me to exchange guitar in which he was going to “work on”, then questioned the guitars state) Go elsewhere for your needs. I stand by my review. Builder simply was angry that I was unhappy with the guitar hence me selling it. Builder then blocked me on Social media simply because he was upset and refused to meet me half way for exchange. Again, Childish and not professional at all. I would NEVER buy this guitar back nor did I say such a thing. Just a unprofessional business all in all.

5. The Music Shoppe
Address: 136 E Pagosa St #11, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147 , Dove Creek , Colorado , United States
Carl is excellent teacher. He is very knowledgeable. It’s great to have guitar lessons in Pagosa.
great place to go making music easy
Very knowledgeable, nice selection .
For a small town, this place is amazing. The owner knows so much and has helped me as an artist. Nice instruments for good prices. But this time I only needed some drum sticks, that where less than expected, I may add.
Carl has opened a beautiful new shop!
Musical equipment is overpriced amazon deals from Christmas. Owner is a nice guy, but was clearly just trying to sell more expensive items over cheaper arguably better ones. “Handmade” strings snapped within the hour, I have a hard time believing the Ernieball strings would have any problem. Sadly though I listened to the worker who assured me that they were the worst. Overall I recommend just driving to Durango you’d end up saving money and not being treated as if you haven’t been playing guitar correctly your entire life.
6. Steve’s Guitars
Address: 19 N 4th St, Carbondale, CO 81623 , Dove Creek , Colorado , United States
This venue is incredible!! The acoustics, the wall to wall guitars, and the comfortable theater seats. Great place to see local musicians leaving it all on stage. Also able to meet Steve, and he is a genuinely beautiful soul with a passion to share this space and enjoy good music. Our little mountain town is lucky to have this venue, what a gem.
Nice collection of vintage guitars and other instruments.
The best!
It’s ok
Intimate venue blanketed in an eclectic collection of guitars. Great for solo or small acts to play in, especially warm acoustics.
Intimate, beautiful guitar display. Fun nice place to get to know musicians upclose. Byob.
This place chronically doesn’t pay their musicians who play there. 50% cut of door sales?? No response when folks try to collect their earnings?? Support local music – not this place.
7. Blue Mesa Music Store
Address: 132 N Main St, Gunnison, CO 81230 , Dove Creek , Colorado , United States
Thank you Matt for getting my little Fender set up so well. I really do hear hints of Buddy Guy now when I play. I appreciate having you as a local resource, mentor and friend. PS..Christine says a big, deep hello.
ALL THE GUITARS ARE SET-UP AND IN TUNE!!!
Knowledgeable and friendly staff, but not even a little pushy. Usually when you walk into a boutique guitar store, you feel like you have to make small talk with the owner and have to try to escape the encounter to actually look at things. They paid me just the right amount of attention, letting me browse and answering questions. They had no qualms with me playing a $300 squier (again, set-up AND in tune!) or the $4k vintage Martin casually hanging on the wall. Great place to spend some time and some money!
Just wanted to give a shout out to Daryl and Matt over at Blue Mesa Music Store. They were able to order us everything that we wanted for our family Christmas presents and matched online pricing! Highly recommend those guys. Shop local! Especially at your local music shop!
8. Affordable Music
Address: 104 Village Pl, Dillon, CO 80435 , Dove Creek , Colorado , United States
Everyone was super nice and helpful. The store was a little hard to find, but the rest was easy. I was afraid I’d have to drive to Denver to find a good music store, but these guys were much closer!
My favorite store in summit county.
Tons of records as well as variety in musical instruments. informative and friendly staff. They cut me a deal for an electric guitar and amp. I highly recommend this shop
Limited selection, average prices
I’ve heard good things about it but I was upstairs at pug Ryan’s bar
Surprisingly good 45 selection.
Sells broken products. Very expensive.
Owner is a racist. He harassed my friend for shopping while black , four times AFTER he bought a CD. We went outside and had to show the police his recite.
Great place to shop if you are worried someone is impersonating you. Don’t shop there if you are black, he might call the cops.
A shambles. Nothing affordable. Maybe okay for guitars, but not music. Looks like a yard sale gone bad. Used vinyl is poor quality, C- vinyl and covers disorganized and twice the price of Denver. Boxes of unsorted records strewn about. New stuff is full list price. Not worth the effort of stopping. Waste of time
