I hired James to play at our wedding as a surprise for my husband. James was awesome and my husband, who is very familiar with bagpipe music, said James was awesome. I highly recommend James.
Jim played the bagpipes at my backyard wedding this past weekend and did an AMAZING job! My family is from Scotland and England and they thought the music was fantastic. Jim has been a pleasure to work with over the past few months during the planning stage and I would highly recommend him for your future event!
James Freeman is a serious professional. He added the most perfect touch to my father’s memorial service. He selected just the right music for the occasion and looked so wonderful as we came out of the church. Our guests were really moved by his artistry, and we are very grateful for his caring and support at a very difficult time.
3. Hoggtowne Music
Address: at Thornebrook Village Shopping Center, 2441 NW 43rd St STE 26B, Gainesville, FL 32606 , East Bronson , Florida , United States
I have always trusted the fine folks at Hoggetowne Music to help me out with a lot of my musical needs. On my most recent visit, there was a slight inconvenience that occurred- nothing too major, (that’s life). I was able to set up a meeting with Joe and Melonie (owners), and discuss with them the issue at hand. They were extremely attentive to my concerns, offered a solution, and were very apologetic, all the while being friendly and professional.
Long story short… The first time in many many years I’ve ever had a “glitch”, and they went out of their way to fix it. Proving once again, if you need anything musically related the awesome people at Hoggetowne Music are the fine folks you want to speak with!!
Thank you to Hoggtowne Music! I first walked into the store and asked for assistance finding someone to tune our piano. And they were kind enough to refer a great person. During my second visit they took the time to help me find the perfect gift for my daughter answering all my questions. One item they didn’t have in stock and called me later to help locate the item. Great service you only get local!
Brought my 12 string in for new set of strings and long delayed set up. Chris did a great job and it sounds better than ever. I’ve bought a lot of equipment from them over the years (including the aforementioned Seagull 12 string), a Yamaha StagePass PA, and even down to Fred Kelly speed picks. It all works perfectly and their advice is spot on.
I had an extremely frustrating experience with this shop. They did have a nice selection of Martins at reasonable prices and seemed like a decent shop otherwise.
Continues to charge me for a flute that has been paid off
Went to get a tuner they needed to price correct from the site, and they did. But also got a Hohner Puck that was repackaged (to be fair, idk if by them) and a draw hole didn’t work at all. That was the last one, so they had to switch with an Old Standby, and if you know harmonicas, that’s just a trade down even though it was more expensive on their shelf. I know it’s harder to do a refund, but I’d have rathered that. These things combined left a bad taste in my mouth.
Went the first time and was sold the wrong book for my daughter’s class because of an incorrect order from hoggtowne. My daughter came back to exchange for the correct book and they would not exchange without original credit card . They knew it came from them. Came back a third time sent my daughter in with all the card to swap the book and of course no more books . Now they want my daughter to get my card pin for a return I came into the store and the guy continued to ask me for my pin I try to support local but they were so disorganized, agrevating and clueless that I ordered the book online and will cut my 10 loss to not waste anymore time. Bad service is bad service and they were in no way helpful I’m my experience. The first time was a mistake the second time was just rise and the third time was enough to write this .
I’m not sure what forwarding it to her instructor will help. I get that someone made a mistake. It happens. But you should have swapped her book when she came in and you had them. Instead she was told you couldn’t exchange it without the card it was purchased with. What kind of policy is that I can’t exchange a book that someone made a mistake on without the card… I appreciate the offer to credit my 10 but I will not spend a fourth trip or more more of my time in this effort. Mistakes happen but bad service is bad service .
4. Music Junction
Address: 14515 Main St, Alachua, FL 32615 , East Bronson , Florida , United States
Music Junction is the only place I will go anymore for any kind of instrument need or questions. The owner is extremely nice and helpful. Very knowledgeable people. They have repaired several instruments of mine, guitar, banjo, violin, resonator guitars and mandolins. I have used other places in Alachua County and the surrounding area. No one even comes close to the work they do. They can make something look like it was never broken. I have also taken lessons with them. Very nice pace and instructions, I learned a lot and now play with a band. Best music store around, period.
Very knowledgeable owners,And they have some very beautiful acoustic guitars. I have not been able to purchase one from them yet,but the gentleman gave me a real good price on a vintage acoustic. I wish I would have been able to purchase it,hopefully I can soon. They also have a great deal on lessons, and it’s definitely a place you can take your kids to.
Classic music store, specializes in acoustic instruments. Excellent instructors in guitar, mandolin, banjo, violin and uke. Also piano.
I got a great like-new guitar here, and I love it! I asked for a certain feel and playability, in a certain (low) price range, and they found me the perfect one! They even fixed it up for me (usually a paid service) for free. The owner and employees are really nice, and the store has a family atmosphere. I do wish they had more selection of items, but they will order pretty much anything you want, so that makes up for it.
They checked out my musical instruments for me, and told me yes they would make nice gifts for my grandchildren I was really appreciative.
thank you, Music Junction.
Overpriced, poor selection, and very poor service (an employee was ridiculously patronizing to my friend’s teenaged son). Several acquaintances have voiced similar experiences. I will never go back.
I never thought I’ll get such a horrible service and attitude. Would never step into this shop and certainly discourage anyone from visiting it.
Lack of professionalism and client orientation.
Driven by money and greed.
Overprice and not professional work. That’s what I experienced, and I learned my lesson to trust my guts when, in the beginning of the discussion about the work that should be done, I heard the comment. I asked to defret my bass and asked how much it would cost. The answer was 150$ ( another place I asked $80-90, but I could not do it immediately. Also, the location was less convenient for me), Leon asked $150 for defreting , because he will have to remove the string !!!! Of course, you have to remove strings. It’s part of the job. When I checked the bass, which I just got while checking it at Leon’s shop, I realized that I also have to change the electronics and pickups. I asked Leon if he could do all the jobs before November 1 because this is when I’m flying and need the bass way way before that. He agreed.
I gave him a bass on Sept 5th. I got electronics a month later on Oct 3rd. Nothing was done by that time. The bass was just lying there.
When we were discussing defretting, he said he would refill the empty frets groves with wood and asked me what I want dark or light wood. I asked for dark. In the end, he felt it with an epoxy and did a sloppy job. Part of the frets aren’t filled with epoxy.
Electronic weren’t salder properly and when I explained what the problem was and asked him to resolved it he replied that he spend already so much time on my bass and can’t fix it immediately and I have to wait until the middle of next week, knowing that I’m flying in the begging of the week and can’t pick it up because of my work. On top of that, the setup of the bass was horrible. The action was at maxim height it can be. When I mentioned that, he replied that he didn’t want the string to touch the fretboard !!! What kind of noncensence? On top of that, he accused me of being dishonest with him about the date I need my bass. I still don’t understand how.
I paid him in full what he asked me when we had a deal, fulfilling my part of the deal. I paid $380, and he reminded me that it was $390( which I forgot) .
I was so frastreted and didn’t want to deal with this greedy man.
Until the end, I was keeping hope in my heart that he at least would ask to pardon him and reduce the price, but there was no sorry, let’s fix it or something. He doesn’t care.
5. Guitar Center Gainesville
Address: 3210 SW 35th Blvd #203, Gainesville, FL 32608 , East Bronson , Florida , United States
Very nice folks. I can shop and practice the keyboard. Thankyou
Very helpful staff. Great experience over-all!
Not as big as other Guitar Centers, which means less of a selection, but still nice.
Not a huge selection of good quality instruments, but some. Half of the floor models had defects and nobody asked to help me (which I actually prefer).
Good customer service. I bought an electronic drum set on sale price. Easy parking in a convenient shopping strip.
This place has really gone down. I would rather drive to Ocala then to come to this store. It used to be a time when they would greet you when u come into the store, ask you of they could help but now it is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, I understand being short staffed heck I’m short staffed but I don’t disregard my clients. Customer service is important but I guess not for guitar center. More than likely I won’t be coming back here I would rather travel or go online.
Went in and asked for the limited edition black &red electronic drum set. I also bought the recommended amp. Got the set home opened box and was not the limited edition one it was the basic set. Drove the 60 miles back to store to see about right set and to also purchase the needed wires to connect everything since wasn’t informed that it came with no cables. Was told the correct set was in another store and would ship to store for me to drive a 3rd time the 120 mile round trip to pick up. Going on over 2 weeks now and still no drum set. Have called numerous times and get told each time that they can’t track the shipment and we’re at the mercy of when other store decided to ship it.
This is my third visit to this location and the third time Ive wanted help and no one has approached me and asked if I needed any help. There were at least 5 workers present and available. I ended up leaving without purchasing anything. If a store doesnt have active and friendly help, Im not going to purchase from that location.
