Eric worked with me over the course of a year to develop and produce my record, Empty Cage.
The results were beyond my expectations, (not to mention it’s pretty good!). He performed as much of the instrumental tracks as I needed as well as backup vocals all with superb professionalism. Steve did a great job on the mastering and hooked me up with a manufacturer who released it on all of the best online music providers. Check it out on Spotify for an example of the finished results. You won’t find a studio with better bang for your dollars anywhere!! Tom Angelo – tomsongsxltd.com
Dirt Floor is an incredible studio with a great vibe! Eric and Steve are a pleasure to work with and the whole environment is beautiful, warm and welcoming. Highly recommend checking them out to capture your music and have a blast doing so!
Very nice studio, great vibe. Needs new drum gear.
Unfortunately a terrible experience with Eric ! Do not waste your time with someone like Eric ! Unbelievable how this guy is still in business !
Love, love, love, love this place. Fantastic locally sourced food and friendly baristas. It just feels like home.
Awesome place beautiful in the fall live music while you have a nice country like breakfast I love it and I love CT
Higher Grounds is about a 10 minute walk uphill from Goodspeed Airport, close enough to be on my great places to fly for a terrific meal.
The menu is varied, and some items are inspired. The soups and cookies alone are worth the trip. The rest is just plain really good.
I put Higher Grounds at the same top of the list of places to fly for food in New England as Nancy’s at Minuteman Airport. Higher Grounds is not directly on the field as is Nancy’s, and Goodspeed is a bit tricky compared to Minuteman but if you can do it, you will be well rewarded. You could of course just drive to either place.
By the way Higher Grounds is open longer hours and more days than Nancy’s which can sometimes be a deciding factor as to which place to visit. Either one is a great choice for a great meal.
If you Love Good coffee, and good food this is one fun place to stop, some times live music, good beers, and just plain having a nice break from your day this is that place. Love it I’ll be back!
Not sure why you guys are charging 7.35% tax and added a $1 tip to my price without asking. Coffee was good though
Pleasant little place. Not much seating. Everything is fresh and locally grown.
2 stars for the very poor customer service. As a first time customer I was excited to support a small local business, as I’m the owner of one myself, but will definitely not be returning here simply because of how rude the staff was.
Called about 10 min before arriving to be sure they were open, since it was a holiday. We arrived and were ignored until deciding to go and find a table on the deck. 15-20min before a girl comes out to tell us they RAN OUT OF FOOD… while chuckling. Are you kidding? I said I had called 10min before getting there and she admitted to being the person who took the call but ran out right after. How do you run out of food 4hrs before closing, let alone ignore people and not say anything?? I’ll never go back there.
Was hoping for a nice breakfast. Instead we got no parking, waited 10 min for a coffee in a room that was about 85 degrees and smokey. There were about 5 tables, 1 waitress and 1 cook that cooked on a plug in griddle…for everyone. After 20 min of being ignored we left. I wont ne back.

Ian is excellent and the rest of the crew are excellent as well.
They are very knowledgeable about every instrument in the shop. Very customer friendly and will go the extra mile to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
Excellent shop
Knowledgable staff and an amazing stock of guitars. The most impressive set of archtops I’ve found anywhere!
Had a guitar cable when I needed it.
Thé Owners are lousy business
No prices listed
Not many mandolins

Jeff is super knowledgeable and the prices are great… we have always been treated fairly… highly recommend!
Jeff is so knowledgeable about stones & fossils! Great with kids. Like a mini museum with prices for all ranges.
Easily the best mineral shop in Connecticut. This place has minerals for all sorts of collectors. There are tumbles and palms for people into the more holistic aspect. Smaller and more common specimens for collectors that are just getting into th hobby. All the way up to high end collectors. This is the only ship that has some high end specimens for a great value. A true hidden gem.

Cute shop with a little bit of everything
Highly recommend stopping
Very nice owner
Real surprise. Amazing gifts from New England.
Great place!
Everything I expected! Souvenirs and candy!
I have visit this store many times over the years of living in Connecticut since I was a boy and they always have interesting and unique items that you won’t find in most places. If you are looking for something with a Southern country feel this is the place to go.
10. Dollar General
Address: 85 Bridge Rd, Haddam, CT 06438 , East Haddam , Connecticut , United States
I had a great experience. Good prices and friendly helpful staff
Nice staff, well stocked
A friendly staff and a one stop for some essential items. Never have had an issue with the staff nor I have I ever had an expired or bad product. Very clean.
I love their prices but tje maid neefs to come back more often
Cheap place to shop from snacks to clothes.
Friendly staff members.
I stopped by the East Haddam store today and was shocked to hear the employees yelling and swearing at each other. You could hear every word all over the store. It was awful. Yelling about how much work they do, they work their $%* off, etc. I walked out. There’s no way I feel safe in such a hostile environment. With every newscast we are bombarded with violence and hatred and to walk in to a small town store to hear them yelling at each other is uncalled for. Employee issues should be discussed in the office out of earshot of paying customers. Unbelievable! I won’t be going there again. Too bad, because it’s very convenient. So unprofessional, and very scary given today’s situation.
You guys are a joke I was only given one bag went back for my other bag and you lie and say I walked out with 2.. bunch of crooks never shop at this store
Two employees were screaming and yelling and physically ramming into things. I did not feel safe and left as did another female customer. A male customer was becoming agitated and seemed ready to get involved

Excellent Service. Reservation are required. Right by CT river and next to Good speed Opera House.
This place is gorgeous! And our waitress Jen was wonderful!
THIS WAS THE BEST!!! After s boat trip on the river, we spotted the Gelston House with a nice crowd of diners on an outdoors veranda. It took only a few short minutes to get a table with a view of the sunshine in the river.
I ordered the lobster rolls and they were the best I’ve ever had. They were buttery and tender…I could have eaten them all day long! I had a rum punch with them as well and they were very good too. My partner had a BURGER . He did enjoy it too. I wish we could have stayed longer, as it was a very pleasant experience.
Next time we are in the area we will be sure to visit there again.
Nice spot looking over the Connecticut River. Big windows in dining room make it nice though the acoustics (when busy) aren’t great. We had good service and the food was decent.
Enjoyed the amazing setting, appreciated great service and found the food to be just right! We certainly will return!
Food was ok, great scenery and interesting hotel
The only thing that is good about this place is it’s proximity to Goodspeed Opera House. Food, service and quality nothing special. Kind of touristy.
This review relates to the guestroom experience, not the restaurant, where we did not dine on our recent visit. It is inconceivable to me that the sophisticated, first-rate Goodspeed Opera House organization — which owns, but does not operate, the Gelston House building — would permit such a poorly run hotel to exist on its otherwise impeccably maintained, picture-perfect property. Some examples: 1) no reserved parking for hotel guests on a busy, double-performance Wednesday (we parked at the far end of the rear parking lot); 2) no drinking glasses/plastic cups in the guest room; 3) wires hanging from the ceiling where the smoke detector had been; 4) a headboard that banged loudly every time I sat on or rolled over in bed (turns out it wasn’t connected to the bed frame, but merely wedged between the frame and the wall; I was able to pull out the mattress a few inches and simply lean the headboard against the wall; 5) drapes that didn’t close because the pull mechanism and clips were broken — flooding the room with hot sunshine the A/C couldn’t overcome in the late afternoon and unwelcome light in the early morning; 6) a coffeemaker that rested on the one luggage rack, because the cord couldn’t reach the outlet from the bureau; 7) a naked fluorescent tube over the bathroom sink that buzzed so loudly we couldn’t bear to turn it on; 8) an alarm clock/radio that wasn’t plugged in; 9) a television that wouldn’t turn off with the remote (it was showing static when we checked in) — only the power strip; 10) low-grade soap and shampoo (the only toiletries provided) — perfectly serviceable but not befitting the resort-quality setting. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, the room was spacious, and the location was perfect for weary travelers stopping at Goodspeed for a show. But for $200 per night ($230 with tax), this was an experience I would not repeat.
Ambiance is great! Beautiful spot along the river with a view of the Goodspeed Opera House. Decent wine selection. The service was ok. Food was disappointing. The vinaigrette on the salad was amazing!! It was downhill from there. The pate was very oniony tasting. The mashed potatoes were bland, the mussels were teeny and the green beans looked like they had been sitting for days. The pasta primavera was very bland. We had to ask for parmesan cheese. The bistro steak was cooked medium (perfe t pinkness) but very tough and fatty. Overall not a good experience.

Great little shop. Had what I was looking for but there was some clutter so it took a while to find it. Other than that it was a good spot. Owner was polite and wouldn’t stop looking until he found what I needed. Thanks for helping.

16. Avery’s Music

Great music school! This is a fantastic way to introduce your family members to life as musician.
My daughter has taken lessons (piano, voice and oboe) with 4 different instructors over seven years and it has been a fabulous experience. The instructors are talented musicians but also very caring individuals. The office staff and director are also very approachable and helpful. I would recommend CMS to anyone interested in music lessons!
I think this is the best music school on the planet!
