BUSY! (I visited on a Saturday morning) But worth it, too. There is a serious amount of knowledge flowing through this music store. I look forward to going back for my music needs.
Great people and hometown friendly staff
Friendly, Knowledgeable staff that will go out their way to answer any guitar related questions you have no matter how silly they may be. Great lessons not only for beginners but for intermediate and more advanced players as well. The guitar instructor here got me over a multi-year plateau of not making any progress and has gotten me back into an exciting path of making progress. I’ve learned more here in a structured way than going aimlessly about it on the internet. Also, the instructor has made music theory much easier to understand for me and I’ve learned more about it than I did in multiple years of high school band and chorus or extracurricular music activities. Staff will provide you knowledge that you need to know about your gear and taking care of it. The guitar tech gave one of my guitars a killer set up. The guitar went from feeling, playing, and sounding like a cheap entry lever 100-200 dollar guitar to feeling, sounding, and playing like a mid-ranged 500 dollar guitar. Also, pretty great prices on guitar strings and if you are in often enough, you can find some rare and vintage gear!
Great service and a friendly staff. I had them restring and set up an Ibanez GIO I bought from a private owner. They were more than happy to accommodate me and did a great job for a reasonable price. Happy Jammer!
Very helpful and reasonable prices on most things
Owner is a world-class person and entrepreneur
No real incentive to shop here. Prices are high. They will match online prices at best. Staff has zero knowledge of inventory specs. “I don’t know you will have to ask Nova when she is working” is the only answer you will get if you ask them anything other than do you have a layaway plan. Save your time and spend your money at a knowledgeable place such as Portman’s, Deloach’s, or Idlewild guitars!
Just went into nova music looking for a specific guitar and they didn’t have it. But they had the American model, and I wanted the Indonesian model very few differences sound quality and color are very similar. Since they do not have the Indonesian model, I asked if I could try the American model which is priced at $3000. The clerk then asked if I had the intention of purchasing the guitar. Told him that I really wanted to try the Indonesian model but they didn’t have it so I tried another prs instead. Definitely not going to give me an experience anywhere near either of the other 2 guitars I’m actually looking at. I dont give the appearence of a dasher but you never know. I could probably out run the 3 children(mine) i came in with and got away with it. I then showed the clerk iwas sitting on nearly 10k in my account and walked out. Never know what kind of a sale you’re gonna miss.

Best Luthier I was seen..lived in guyton a few years back almost bought a Kramer off him..had some pickupsprings missing brought it to him..no charge..he has the best gibson collections ever..and his personal randy wood guitars or mandolins are something of master pieces..glad I got to meet this fine gentlemen..wish I could become his pupil. Love to be his apprentice
Nice simple shop with pretty knowledgeable staff who were willing to discuss with the customer intricate details inorder to get the job done also a few beautiful vintage amps
Went to eat at Flacos Tacos.
So I will say they haven’t had a chance to reach back out and fix the situation. I brought my guitar in for a set up brand new. I know I should have looked and inspected the guitar right away. But I have a before and after picture there was no damage to the guitar again brand new after I got the set up this damage was right where I can see they tried to use the truss rod adjustment tool. I know guitars get slightly dinged up but like come on…..
I will say people were nice, and guitar set up was ok. I will adjust the rating depending if they get back to me.
Edit they called me back right away I bumped up extra star guys were nice about it. I wasn’t trying to get anything out of it I just want it to be a learning experience.
Had a Gibson SG refinished here and it was terrible. Very patchy and uneven coverage. Worst of all was the headstock. I am a little perplexed though, they have many great reviews and other great pictures. The folks there were nice, decent selection of guitars for sale, no other complaints. I’m not sure why my guitar came out so bad.
Terrible service and terrible work.
Would never recommend to anyone.
Stay away!
7. DOWNBEAT MUSIC CENTER
Address: 216 U.S. Highway 80 East, Pooler, GA 31322 , Effingham County , Georgia , United States
Fantastic music store! A hidden gem to be sure. And they sell band instruments! Just purchased a trombone for my son from Andrew and I couldn’t be happier with it. I had been renting my son’s instrument from another store (as set up by his school) and was tired of throwing money down the drain. I looked to purchase it from that same store and the price was outrageous. I Looked at Amazon but I was afraid to buy from an unknown.
I Found Downbeat music on Facebook and decided to stop in. The owner was super friendly and very helpful. He sold me a brand new high quality trombone for a really great price. Honestly it’s every bit as good as the one I looked at in the other store (Portman’s) but at only a fraction of the price. I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between the one I bought and the MUCH more expensive one that Portman’s wanted to sell me. I felt very comfortable buying this instrument from Andrew. He’s the real deal.
So if you have a child in band and you’re looking to buy them a new instrument I highly recommend Downbeat music.
Great Shop well educated staff
It is great to have a music store on this side of town! I spoke with Andy and he is very knowledgeable about all things guitar. Nice selection of used equipment.
8. Jerry Roberson Piano Sales
Address: 183 Bell Rd, Brooklet, GA 30415 , Effingham County , Georgia , United States
Our family has used Mr. Roberson’s piano moving and tuning services for decades. Wonderful person, will go out of his way to care for your piano and will not over-charge you. Getting ready to call him to move my massive antique player piano, again. Trust him completely. 5 stars!!!
MR.ROBERSON IS WELL KNOWN IN OUR AREA AND HAS A STERLING REPUTATION!!! HE TUNES A LOT OF PIANOS FOR A LOT OF CHURCHES AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BUT ABSOLUTE PRAISE FOR HIS WORK AND INTEGRITY. I WAS JUST ABOUT TO CALL HIM MYSELF ABOUT A JOB, WHEN I SAW THIS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ RATING SYSTEM AND FELT LIKE SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT. Angie Anderson, Glennville, Ga.
9. De Loach’s Music & Sound
Address: 1196 Northside Dr E, Statesboro, GA 30458 , Effingham County , Georgia , United States
I love this place because I am a musician and they have the best quality instruments
It is a wonderful place as soon as me and my grandson walk through the door we was greeted and he helped us didn’t rush us and we bought a drum set I plan on buying more from them very nice people would definitely recommend buying anything musical from them in the future
Great service and friendly service.
Always work great us an help to make your purchase what you want with ease
Ive bought well over 700 dollars worth of stuff from there. Its a great music store but the owner always seems in a bad mood. Kinda ruins the music shopping experience. Good place though
Prices higher than other local music stores. Good selection of acoustic guitars, mediocre selection of electric guitars, effect pedal selection rarely updated. Decent selection of Mesa amps but inventory for other brands is lacking.
Owner is rude, and there isn’t much selection of cool stuff. Overpriced for the same stuff you could get at guitar center, or online somewhere. I don’t understand how stores like this one are still in business in 2018.
I guess the owner wasn’t the guy who was rude. Maybe an employee who claimed to be in charge.
I absolutely WAS in the store with one of my buddies. We were both unimpressed. They have a “please ask for assistance” tag on almost every guitar in the store. Even on the low end fenders. As far as the prices, there are regular sales online, and at big box retailers such as Guitar Center. I’ve seen much better prices on most of the Fender guitars they have in stock at this place.
I AM reviewing a bunch of places I’ve been to lately, but there would be NO reason to give a poor review if I didn’t feel as though it warranted a poor review. That makes no sense. Look at my reviews of places like Jimmy’s Vintage Music, and Sam Ash music in Clearwater Florida.
Selection is great. Customer service is not. I made a large purchase and was treated like garbage until I made the purchase.
I get that people walking in, trying things out, and not buying them is a big problem in small music stores .But the way to solve that is NOT to treat them poorly until they buy something. Maybe it was because of my younger age I was assumed to be a freeloader.
I love supporting local music shops. So I will definitely be back in from time to time and hope this was a one time experience!
Edit response:
“Can we plug in to other amps?” “Only if you’re going to buy one”
“I have this issue when I slap the string on the low E (shows)”
“(rudely, different employee) Well yeah you’re hitting the fret”
“Ok but normal guitars don’t make that sound, I think it might be misaligned” turns out I was right.
Like I said I’m happy to support local shops. Always have. But we all left there feeling like we were not welcome, and it looks like others have felt the same in the reviews.
They know what they’re talking about if they decide to pay any attention or attempt to help you out. Prices are a bit ridiculous. I went in years ago to buy an interface and was told that X was my only option and it costed $300. X, as it turns out, wasn’t compatible with my computer, and sold elsewhere for about $150 less, and they refused to allow me to return it even though it had only been an hour since I had bought it.
Amazing selection of pianos for sale. I am very happy with the player piano I got at 88 Keys.
My piano had not be tuned in years. I knew it needed a lot of work. I was so impressed and appreciative of the time, care, patience and precision taken with my instrument. It now sounds great and I couldn’t be happier. Also, the ease of scheduling and their timely responses to all my many questions made 88 Keys a true pleasure to deal with.
Wonderful service. Mr. Jon and his crew went above beyond to repair an older, broken baby grand for us. It sounds brand new now!
I have shopped here for years. Prices are competitive with online shops. Jeff and the rest of the gang always bend over backwards with the best customer service in the business. I always love stopping by.
My wife and I stopped in on Sunday 10/20/19 to see about trade in values for some old equipment that I had, and to look into the purchase of a powered speaker. Your associate, Randy Lowery, was most helpful. He was able to take care of our needs while also tending to other customers in a very professional and courteous manner. He let me know the actual selling price and the trade in values for my old equipment. He gave me comparison figures and demonstrations of multiple powered speakers and mixers with effects choices to fit the parameters that I was looking to fill. He let my wife have a chair to sit in (she is somewhat disabled), while I was checking things out. He discussed with me other options in a lessor price range because my wife and I were concerned about our budget. He did all of this and attended to other customers without trying to push or rush us into buying something more expensive. We were thoroughly pleased with his service, expertise, pleasant manner, and professional conduct. Our purchase ended up costing the same as the single speaker we had intended to purchase, even though we were able to end up with a comparable speaker, speaker stand, mixer with effects, and cord for the connection of the two. My wife and I wanted to let you know that this was the most enjoyable purchasing experience that we have had in many, many years. Randy is a wonderful shining example of what we would expect of any salesman in any business and needs to be commended for his performance and considered as a model for all sales persons. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
I stopped in to look for a Christmas gift that I could not seem to find anywhere. Not even on Amazon! Jeff K. pointed me in the right direction and I found all three items I was looking for! On top of this, I slightly went over my $50 gift limit but another employee, Alya “hooked me up”! Great job Portman’s!
Great place! They never have the parts I need, but they always tell me where to find them. There bass section is very limited I wish they would improve upon it.
great place for whatever musical things you may need, i’ve had mutiple instruments from portmans but lessons from here aren’t the best. super tiny rooms to practice in and having my instructor not show up mutiple times was enough that i quit getting lessons. but other than that it’s a good shop
It’s the vibe of any typical music store, however they were very well-stocked very helpful to my needs – if not overbearing at some times. They had a wide range of products (but not really). If you like music, this is a store.
I’m a drummer and this stuff is way over priced compared to AMS, and Guitar Center. The sticks are reasonable though. Not really a wide selection on hardware.
I generally like shopping here, but don’t give them your phone number unless you want to be put on their robocall list. Really. It’s 2019, send an email. NOBODY wants automated phone ads.
I went to Portman’s Music store today in Savannah to get my daughter’s clarinet repair. It needed minor repairs, it needed new cork, and a ligature screw; very minor, however, I was very upset and dissatisfied with their customer service. First I was told there isn’t anyone that does repairs on the weekends, like WT. This clarinet was rented from Portman’s Music store. My daughter needs her instrument during the weekdays for her band class so I’m figuring take it to the store early on Saturday, since it’s something minor, it can be done the same day even if I have to wait a few hours that was fine, but then they told me that I would have to leave the instrument and they will get to it on Monday, may take two days. I told her I couldn’t do that since my daughter needed it for Monday so she proceeded to give me the supplies needed to repair the instrument, which I had to buy, even though they are supposed to be servicing the instrument, and told me to go on Youtube for instructions of how to put it on; what? I am renting this instrument from you and this is the service I get? well, she referred me to the manager, which was a waste of time because he started to give me this cock and bull speech as to how many people and counties they service. Long story short, I ended up buying the pieces I needed for the instrument and left with an unserviceable instrument. Portman has poor and unsatisfactory customer service, I am an unhappy customer and am sure I’m not the only one, if they keep going they way they are, they will be out of business. I will be looking for somewhere else to rent my daughter’s instrument.
Logan was amazing for our Client Appreciation Event. I heard nothing but positive comments from our clients. We will definitely be using him in the future.
Logan has been a huge hit with our brunch crowd. He plays a great mix of songs and continues to impress.
Working with Logan was an amazing experience. From our initial meeting when we caught him unexpectedly after a Sunday brunch performance through our big day, he was fun to work with, on top of everything, and had great ideas and suggestions, taking our vision of the day and making better then we could imagine! His ability to provide fantastic live music for our ceremony and cocktail hour paired with his great sense of a crowd as a DJ meant that all through the day and night we kept getting compliments on how great the music was! I cant recommend him enough and anyone looking anywhere else is truly missing out!

We were in yesterday to look at cellos for my son and had a wonderful experience… the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional (we had gone to a different local store the day before and no one talked to us, but here, they asked us how they could help and stepped right in when we told them what we were interested in). We left with a beautiful cello after spending a lot of time talking through all the different models and selections they had. Very happy with the result!
staff was very helpful and got us a great deal! very patient, knowledgeable, and cool peeps
Adina was so amazing. This was my first time ever shopping at this store. I found them through google because the store that I usually go to were out of what I was looking for. Customer Service was outstanding and I love the personable feel of the environment. They were extremely attentive from the time that I stepped through the door. They are definitely a hidden gem. I would recommend them to anyone looking to service any of the instruments needs. This will now be my new go to music store In Savannah.
Very kind staff and plenty of items for sale
Friendly, knowledgeable staff and respectable pricing. I’m not a musician, but my wife left impressed.
I’m truly upset with this store. I received 2 notices in the mail due to my credit card being declined. The reason why my card was declined was because of frauds activities. I went to pay on my daughter’s instrument and they told me that they do not accept payments in the store nor updated the information in their records. This is ludicrous. They need to change their policy. I called twice this week to reach customer service and they has me on hold for a whole hour. Something has to give.
The teen girl working was poorly dressed and rude. Having shopped at other locations before, I expected kind, well dressed employees with expert knowledge. That is not that case at this store– at least not with that employee!! This location lost the only good employee they had (the manager Brandon).
