I just went in here for the first time today to get a guitar repair done. They originally said it would be done by tuesday but then they just did it today instead. Very nice people and very quick to help you with what you need. I will definitely be coming back here in the future.
My brother came down from Tennessee to visit and took me in here and suprised me by purchasing me an electric guitar, amplifier, and everything I needed to get started learning how to play guitar. The store has just about everything you need and the staff are very friendly and seem to know a lot about music supplies and accessories. Overall, was a great experience for the first time being in there and we came in close to their closing time but they weren’t trying to rush customers out of their store. Would recommend and come back again for anything else I need.
Little out of place win I went and ask about a instrument
Nice staff clean store and can stock items for regulars. Mostly past era guitars though. Otherwise it’d be 5 stars
There’s one guy there (Chet ? Chester?) who is really nice. The older gentleman comes across like he’d rather be in his office or something rather than dealing with the public. Seems he can’t keep young and talented help either, which may also be a result of his extremely unapproachable personality. I agree with the other reviewer … Decatur needs another music store.
It’s music for crying out loud … the atmosphere does not lend itself to the encouragement of instrument try out. It always seems so cold and uninviting. Not to mention that the selection is poor. No used instruments either.
Rude did not want to wait on customer like it was bothering them
Exelente

Very thankful to have a local music store that has great customer service with their attention to detail for each person. They always go above and beyond.
Great place for instruments, and they offer private lessons. Great place.
Liked to look around the store seeing a lot of instruments & songbooks plus more.
It’s a great shop. The people that work here are very nice. The only problem was that it’s hard to find the right time to go there for trading because they are always doing lessons. But it’s a nice little shop and it’s fun to go look around.
I went in with my boyfriend to get some guitar strings etc. The lady who helped us was polite but wanted us to hurry up and leave. We’ll probably be making a trip to AB Stephens next time
Closed on a Saturday at 3oclock….
Never know when they’re actually open
The hours listed are not accurate. I hardly ever see this place open.
4. Clearwave Recording Studio
Address: 2015 Westmead St SW, Decatur, AL 35601 , Flint City , Alabama , United States
Awesome place!! If you want the best experience while recording then definitely look into booking with the Clearwave recording Studio!
Jeremy Stephens was the understudy to the world-famous producer, Johnny Sandlin, who produced the Allman Brothers. Not sure if he wants for me to share all this on his Google page but the truth is the truth.
Jeremy is one of the Best Music Producers in the world!
He is affordable and really likes what he does, which shows in the final produce.
Clearwave Recording Studio is easy to load in/out and the sound quality is phenomenal.
If you are looking for a place to record, I would highly suggest Jeremy and Clearwave!
DO NOT SHOW UP UNANNOUNCED!!!!!!
Best experience I’ve ever had. Jeremy is the best. If you want quality recording with someone who cares about your music… this is the place. He has an ear for music, whatever style you bring to the table.
5. Perfect Sound Studio
Address: 401 14th St SW, Decatur, AL 35601 , Flint City , Alabama , United States
Tylor played guitar and sang at the welcome party we had the evening before our son’s wedding. The music was perfect! Tylor clearly knows how to read a crowd – he started with instrumental music as the guests gathered and transitioned to lyrics that everyone clearly enjoyed. He created an upbeat atmosphere without being the center of attention- quite a feat. He was very flexible every step of the way. Tylor has a huge playlist and is willing to learn something you request. He responded quickly to every question we asked, and he made us feel confident about our decision to choose him for our event even before we heard him play in person. On top of that, he is just a lovely human being. You will be glad you met him.
Got a beatiful green wand, loved it, store is so unique, you can get stuff here you can’t get other places for sure. Sure even does meditation classes
Love it
Urban Atlas is one of my favorite stores to shop at. It is my first stop when shopping for myself, for birthday gifts, and for Christmas gifts. The employees there are unconditionally sweet and make me feel welcome every time I am there. 10/10
Always love stopping in here when I am in Decatur! The teas are made with a french press which is so incredibly cool and unlike other coffee shops near Huntsville! Plus the selection is so cool!! Would recommend coming by. Only knocking a star because since post-COVID i havent seen anyone wear a mask.
Great record store. Nice tiny little shop found some great punk and metal here and a lot of stuff I have never seen on vinyl before. Wish I had brought more money because I would have a bunch of records to bring home. Service is also extremely nice.
Cute store but I’ll never shop here again. I was given a gift card for Christmas, which was purchased mid-December, and didn’t realize it had an expiration date. This wouldn’t have been a problem, except the expiration date was April 1st, a mere four months after it was purchased. The problem isn’t the expiration date itself, it’s the fact that it’s not even six months out + we’re in the middle of a global pandemic. It’s not the easiest to get out and use gift cards at the moment. According to the store owner, the money “can’t be held that long” as it’s “unfair to others who sell in the store,” despite the fact that the gift card was paid for, in cash, and should be treated as if it’s cash. This is bad business practice and has turned me off as a customer.
This store was recommend to me by someone I had purchased a guitar from. This store was great! Great selection of stringed instruments and super friendly and helpful staff. It is 2 hours away from where I live but I will be stopping by anytime i am in the area.
I’ve been using the fret shop for over twenty years for my equipment and repair needs. Brian is always tremendously helpful. Guitar setup and repairs are always back to me in pristine condition. Keep up the great work guys!
Great Shop!!
This place don’t let you rock the hell out like I do so I feel unwelcome and very bored! Just let people rock out
Wide variety of stringed instruments. Helpful but not pushy staff. Only saw one acoustic\electric bass. Good deals to be found from a local business but do your research.
Nice folks and a quaint, decent size of a guitar shop! Unfortunately the service didn’t blow me away. I dropped off a guitar to have it cleaned up and checked for intonation. I don’t think any of the saddles were even moved. I ended up having to intonate the strings myself when I got a decent tuner in front of me.
I have never been in this shop without being made to feel like a second class citizen. Bought a defective Taylor here, the first three frets were lower than the rest. When I asked about the warranty I was told they weren’t qualified to make that repair. When pushed on the matter their final answer was, didn’t you play it before you bought it? If you’re in the right clique this might be a great store, if not, Buyer Beware!
$10 for a used box. I could understand that but saying you can’t spare 50 cents of bubble wrap because you ship too much? Sad. Next time I’ll go to the big box who said they’ll give me a box for free.
Had a warranty repair done on my sons telecaster relating to the neck pickup. After waiting for about 45 days for the new pickup to arrive from finder I picked up the guitar without testing it at the store. When I got home I plugged it in to find out that it had a major ground issue. The hum was so intense it seemed as though I was summoning lightening. I returned to the store agitated because it was clear it wasn’t even tested after the repair & $56 dollar setup. David assured me it was normal noise a telecaster makes. He said he had a custom shop telecaster that was even worse. However I played the guitar a lot before the part failed and it didn’t have any loud feedback or 60 hertz hum. (4 gen noiseless) After a lot of back and forth and him calling fender to tell them that the customer is complaining of normal noise. I took the guitar to guitar center and compared it to other noiseless telecasters and even a squire tele and it was obviously way way worse, unbearable! So I sent the guitar back to sweetwater (These guys are awesome) were it was purchased and the guitar tech there told me what the issue was. David at the fret shop had soldered an additional ground on the front pickup and that that solder joint had made contact with or caused interference with the coil wrappings. So it was replaced and now works as it should. Once again the guitar sounds beautiful and clean. I had to pay to have this repair done plus a new pickup along with shipping because it was the result of an improper modified solder failure that I didn’t approve or authorize. I can only assume David is dishonest or hard of hearing and also I’m sure he is the most unprofessional person to deal with. All the time wasted for a $30 part I could have easily replaced myself SMH I thought well it’s covered by warranty. lol.. I try to shop local because we all should but I’ll never spend another of my hard earned dollars here. I was taking lessons here as well, the rooms upstairs are kind of musty smelling just FYI.
Yes of course I am leaving the review for the appropriate business! It is my sons guitar that his mother and I bought for him. 2018 MIM Telecaster thin line deluxe. It was repaired under his name so it wouldn’t cause confusion if he needed some other warranty work done in the future also the registration & the warranty card is in his name. FYI
I’m obviously wrong about your guitar techs name but it was the same guy that has done work on my guitars, my girlfriends guitars and my sons guitars. To my knowledge he is the only tech you have or had at that time.
I took a video of the unbelievable sound that it was making, I have the part that was causing it, I have documentation from the technician at Sweetwater that repaired it and I will be happy to share that with you if you actually care. I prefer and try to support local business but I will not be treated the way I was or lied to period! That guy (whatever his name is) has 0 credibility with me. One bad apple. Everyone else was very pleasant and Andy is awesome, its unfortunate.
The white wire is not factory and was not otherized. The solder has made contact with the coil and or melted the insulation on the factory wires. It literally sounded like it was summoning lightning. Instead of saying oops and fixing it he tried to convince me it was normal. The whole experience was remarkable!
14. Guitar Center
Address: 5900 University Dr NW Suite A, Huntsville, AL 35806 , Flint City , Alabama , United States
Great merchandise, pricing reasonable. Staff very knowledgeable and helpful at every store except Hoover location. Management talks down to customers here.
Great selection and friendly staff.
Awesome place
Great experienced staff
Decent selection of guitars, some of the staff is pretty nice, every now and then they get something exciting in (used or new). I’d much rather spend my time at The Fret Shoppe or T Shepard’s, even though I stop in sometimes to see if anything interesting has come in.
Same old guitars, different city
Went in for a little help. Guy was VERY RUDE and did not want to help. With service like that I don’t care to go back.
Dirtiest guitar center I’ve been in. Boxes everywhere, lots of stuff without prices. Selection isn’t great. Good luck getting help.
15. Books-A-Million
Address: 1241 Point Mallard Pkwy, Decatur, AL 35601 , Flint City , Alabama , United States
I bought some awesome books for my family and plan on buying more , plus you can donate a book to your local mental facility which im sure is much needed.
Nice store for finding unique Christmas gifts for children in adults
First time I have ever been in there it was super nice. A very large selection for anything you are into also have kids toys a cafe and cool art work I would go check it out
Little slow
Horrible selection. Employees unprofessional and rude
This place sucks
As I walked in I thought it was closed because most of the lights were off and the store was dark. I was surprised they had the book a wanted and there was an employee at the middle desk offering assistance. But as I walked around a lot of the wood flooring is bucked severely causing me to trip and the carpet wasn’t in much better shape. I went to check out there was another customer waiting and no cashier. After several minutes I went back to the employee in the help desk and was told the cashier should be there. I went back and waited the employee from Joe mugs yelled over and said cashier was at lunch and she would check us out. I think I just stick with book buying from Amazon.
