Skips is great, though they are a lot smaller than they used to be. They make up for it by being one of the friendlier and more knowledgeable shops in Northern California.
Very helpful. Friendly. Clean. Felt covid safe.
Always the best!!!
I was really liking the nonexistant snobby vibe you get in some places, and the care and experienced perfection the guy who fixed my accoustic was able to do. Did not like how some of the other customers present were treating the instruments they were looking at and trying out, have some manners, please. I can’t imagine walking into a shoe store and testing shoes by stomping around the store yankng on them as hard as possible to see if they break, how did that become the precident for buying an instrument? Grrr
Great Service.
Skip’s is the glue that has held the Sacramento music scene together for decades. They have a smaller inventory than Guitar Center, but if you’re looking for lessons, rentals, music programs, or knowledgeable staff, or if you just want to try the instruments without someone standing over you, this is still the place to go.
Brought them a pick up truck of Used equiptmnt to sell they were too busy, turned us away after Christmas…. J.A.B.-57
One star for my experience with Mike. Made me feel like I was inconveniencing him by asking simple questions. He was condescending when I asked about a guitar repair. He was also very dismissive. Thankfully the manager on duty Erik was amazing as well as the two gentleman at the front desk. Because of them I will be coming back to the store on a day when Mike is NOT working. 5/5 for those gentlemen. 0/5 for Mike.
Cody: “I’m sorry you’ll need to put a mask on”
Me: “oh I’m sorry I have a health condition”
Cody: “sorry it is our policy if you don’t wear a mask you can’t come in”
Me: “ ohhhh so you guys discriminate against people with health conditions?”
Cody: “oh yeah I guess we do then!”
Me: “ok you will NOT get my business then!”
Cody: “see yah”
(Paraphrased)
Discriminatory and communist ideals! Will never be back. Just wanted a djembe and small guitar amp but wasn’t able to browse like other people. Sad.

Sean is phenomenal. Within the first few minutes, you can tell he knows exactly what he’s doing. My band, Lacking Morale, came in just to do drums. Sean has a nice drum set there, and did a great job compressing and EQing them. I highly recommend!
Best Studio around! I’ve been to the other studios, and Fat Cat is easily the best. Great experience. Excellent Sound Quality. Professional, yet inviting and comfy. Big NY/LA quality at Sacramento prices. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Alina is an amazing vocalist and a great teacher. I would recommend her as a vocal teacher for anyone who wants to learn to sing and grow in their ability to sing.
Alina Ilchuk is an amazing teacher. She has taught me for about five years and I have improved a lot. I also have grown very close with her. I would totally recommend Mrs. Ilchuk for anyone who is interested in singing.
Where do I begin with all the things Mrs. Ilchuk has helped me with
accomplishing. She is an amazing teacher that taught me how to get the best out of my singing and taught me to pronounce Russian words better with songs. She cares for her students and understands all students needs. She helped me understand that singing isn’t something that you master in one day, it is something that takes practice and dedication and with Mrs. Ilchuk as soon as you walked through the door she can help you with what you need to improve on to succeed. She is also a great and active singer so she understands how hard and how easy some things are to do.
Huge selection, Great staff. Helped us make a difficult (and expensive) decision.
The staff are funny and helpful and varry insitfull
Probably the best customer service I have ever had at any store. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Lots and lots and lots of gear here. If you’re looking for anything for orchestra style instruments, they probably have it, Great way to try things on for size. Good, high quality instruments.
Great place to get music lessons and a fun engaging staff
Helpful and knowledgeable crew. Thanks for your help
This would be zero stars but a plug is warranted for John Doolittle’s sax lessons at the store of which I availed myself a couple of times. Zero stars involves me taking my alto sax there for repair. It’s over 50 years old but has had some restorative work done; fairly significant when I started playing again regularly about three years ago and more minor work several months ago and again following my unpleasant experience at Tim’s, the former by Kline Music and the latter by The Music Store in Rocklin. The guy at Kline is particularly known for his competence. The purported lead expert on reed instrument repairs at Tim’s told me my Selmer Mark VI needed a $1500 complete overhaul and they wouldn’t touch it for any lesser amount of work. The guy in Rocklin then fixed it for $65 and it plays just fine, as it did before it started acting up shortly before I took it to Tim’s. I played in church today and was complemented on my tone by their music director, who is a school music teacher and fellow owner of a Selmer Mark VI. An instrument in need of complete renovation obviously could not produce such a result. I got a different feel from the store than I did when I took lessons from Doolittle at the old location. Maybe they’ve bitten off more than they can chew financially but they’ve certainly lost my business.
I have purchase and rented instruments here before. This time, five different staff said they would help, apparently what I wanted was not in stock and instead of letting me know, all left me waiting. After quite a wait we decided to leave. Someone caught us leaving and took our number to call and figure out how we could get ahold of the instrument. That was over 8 weeks ago, my phone never rang. They’ve lost a loyal customer.

We absolutely love Lockout Studios! The managers are super responsive to any asks we have. The prices are very fair. Everyone we’ve met around the studios has been very kind and the musician camaraderie is definitely there. It’s clean, security is good, can’t say enough about how awesome this place is.
NOT GONNA LIE: I was sketch AF when I 1st came ; mainly cause I was communicating via text. I came through twice to check out the property. But, I’m EXTREMELY happy w/ my office & how everything turned out.
Very supportive AND responsive whenever there is a question, problem or concern. Neighborhood is VERY quiet & u DEFINITELY get work done! I’m definitely gonna be here for a while!

Been here a few months and so far, so good. Super quick response times for any questions we’ve had, and anytime there’s been any sort of hiccup or problem, they’ve been on it right away. Rooms are not fully soundproof but they let you pretty much have free reign over customizing your space, so you can easily add more soundproofing. A/c and heat both work great, so the studios are always comfortable. Lots of outdoor lighting and cameras so you feel pretty safe there, no matter what time it is. The keyless locking system is great also. Overall, good sized and solid studio space, and the price can’t be beat.
Great small office’s. No hassles, clean area, friendly tenants.
Without a doubt I can say all the other reviews are lies because I’ve already rented from them the studios are not complete they’re not a full studio if you pay attention to your walls from top to bottom you’ll notice a gap either showing the outside or being able to hear to the other side because the Gap at the top while the units are decently priced some are very small while others are decent size I will admit the pricing was not necessarily fair but it was not bad either, as the old saying goes you get what you pay for there’s absolutely zero padding in between the walls so you can literally hear just about everything when I rented from them they had people living in the studios which is expressly forbidden and their contract, as well as the fact that I personally had experiences with hearing individual constantly daily beat his girlfriend and or wife as they are living in that unit daily, while I do have to give credit to the staff for being rather responsive there was never a time that I text and they did not get back to me within less than an hour however I cannot give this place more than two stars they were very lackluster and making sure that the trash and the area for the trash was taken care of even after myself and several other tenants offered to properly in case the garbage area as to make sure that garbage was properly being thrown away and not left on the trash 4 weeks at a time until they decided to pay for the garbage to come as well as they do not keep the maintenance on their bathrooms the bathrooms are disgusting I personally watched their so-called maintenance man and or their in house fix it guy dump a trash can without taking out the bag knowing full well that there was something wet and rotten in the bag simply based on the smell and instead he simply dumped out the trash and left the wet smelly bag inside the trash can and put it back in the bathroom and closes the door as if he didn’t know the smell would get trapped in the bathroom I will admit again the staff is responsive as well as courteous with the exception of one particular agent that works there by the name of Jennifer, and I would have to say overall other than the homeless people that gather around and hang out and sleep in the hallways by the bathroom my major issue with them would be if I am paying rent I’m not paying you to come look and check inside of my unit on a monthly basis however it is their property and they can set the rules but overall I’m definitely not a fan of paying rent to have my unit inspected on a monthly basis I pay my rent so that I can do what I please with inside of the guidelines that are set forth I don’t need to be monitored and or have people checking inside of my unit on a monthly basis however that is because they know that they had individuals living in certain units so they would have to go and check all of the units to make sure no one else was personally I feel as though that was a very big disrespect. Stay with me for a second and just imagine as an artist engineer or producer being in the studio in the middle of a studio session and on the door there’s a knock very hard as if the police are at your door and then the shout that screams management and then they come barging in without you even saying come in or give me a second to open the door they simply open the door and again if you’re in the process of recording or doing music that is very disruptive to the flow so I understand and I know full well that these individuals that are leaving good comments are lying simply because I was there the same time a lot of these people were there

Amazing service and friendly people!
I dont know many music shops, and im new to playing instruments. I got my first uke a while back ago at a different shop. It was really cheep and probably looks more like a toy. Well i noticed a screw was loose on one of the tuners. So i searched for music shops near me, and this place popped up. I called and explained the missing screw, and soon i came in the shop. The guy at the counter helped repair my uke, free of charge since it was a minor repair and only took a couple minutes. I bought new strings anyway because someday ill get good at playing the uke and i didnt want to leave without paying something for fixing my uke.
A couple hours later, i got home and i examined the fix. Looked great, then a whole different tuner suddenly fell off! The holes holding the screws were too worn and large. I called the shop again, and i came into the shop asap. Again free of charge for just a couple minutes to repair it. He even made sure to check the others just in case.
Once again i bought something to help pay for the services, a uke key/note booklet so i can learn more notes than just F, G, and C from the tiny instruction booklet my uke came with.
I am so happy with their service, and i loved looking around the shop, specially at the other ukes they had. Even tho the uke selection was small for the moment (because ukes are getting popular again) i cant wait to see when they will get more so i can upgrade from my first one.
Amazing staff all around, incredibly friendly. I take lessons from Billy here and he’s amazing. He noticed my Les Paul bowing and suggested I bring it over so I did. Brian? immediately helped me and knew exactly what to do to fix it. Even though the bowing was pretty bad, he was able to straighten it out extremely well and the guitar works almost like new again. Will come here for all advice, instrument repair, purchasing products, etc. as long as I am playing guitar.
I had my digital piano serviced at here.
Super quick and super honest. They explained to me what was wrong and charged very reasonable amount . I feel I’m lucky to know this place.
The store was open but I even didn’t get to get in the store, I saw the atendent from outside and he just made a hands sign that I should wait.
Did a great job repairing a trumpet fir mu son! Really nice people.!

If your looking for a place to record your music, this is the place! They are pro’s at what they do and it was an incredible experience recording at Pus Cavern with my band!
Best studio in Sac! Joe is so easy to work with and pricing is on point!
