I’ve been getting my guitars set up here for years, they always do a fantastic job!
Very professional place
The staff was so great! Brought my sons violin for tuning. They came out to get it, waited about 5mins and done! They made sure to follow all the guidelines for social distancing even sanitized the violin before handing it back over. So happy I brought it there. Will definitely come back!!
45 dollars for an on the spot (30 min) electric guitar restring, minus the price for the strings, is a little steep, folks. I appreciate the good work, but I can get the same treatment for a lot less at A Sound Education off Ogden.
I gave this place a bad review after dealing with a younger employee But when the manager was alerted to the situation (A few days later) it was dealt with fairly. Kagan and Gains has a long time reputation in their neighborhood of being the first choice for musical lessons of any instrument and Fair pricing on instruments and accessories. It may not be the best place to shop for a new guitar But they can handle all your needs afterwords. I recommend them for all your strings, Guitar cases, Band instruments, ect. You will find all of them are of good quality and pricing.
Really great staff, knowledgable and well stocked.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to justify shopping there any longer for my business because their three day return policy and extremely limited store hours make it difficult to get back over there within the period.
(I’m unwilling to pay a 20% restocking fee for unopened cables)
Hate to say it because I wish my business was going to an independent store rather than the corporate or online big boxes.
I hate to agree with the user below who complained of a dishonest experience, but we are going through the same. I’ve read all of the other 5 star reviews and notice a pattern: it seems that for violin and stringed instruments, this is a great place. For renting brass/woodwind instruments via their monopoly with the school districts, they are subpar and dishonest. We should have just purchase a used instrument which would have resulted in us obtaining a superior instrument at, I am not exaggerating, 1/4 the total cost. We just had to call them to stop processing our credit card when we noticed we had been paying an abnormally long time on my daughter’s VERY USED, VERY DENTED saxophone (4 years!). We were “reassured” that, coincidentally, they were just going to call us as well as our payments happened to be completed. Yet they have no records of all the payments that we made, and are asking us to provide payment records going back to 2017 to “prove” how much we have paid in total. Luckily for us, we can easily provide them as they have all been made on the same credit card for years. We are also disputing the amount owed as our daughter’s original “nicer” model saxophone broke, was taken in for repairs, and she was given a loaner, student-model, older and dented sax. Her other one was never repaired and instead she’s just had this one forever. We were told at the time it would be “worked out.” Now they want us to pay the same amount as they were going to charge for the initial instrument to keep this replacement instrument permanently, as they also claim to have NO record that any switch was ever made or that the original saxophone was ever brought in for repairs. Typically, I endeavor to support neighborhood shops, but not when their record keeping is straight out of Mayberry. This is taking a lot of our time and energy to sort out, and we’ve ultimately laid out over $2300 to own an instrument that I have found at multiple music stores online for around $600 and under. We understand that renting the own is typically more expensive, but this feels like being swindled in every way. Extremely disappointed. My husband has been playing music for over 40 years – he also used to play saxophone – and his mother is a professional classical musician. He is used to dealing with all sorts of music shops and has never had an experience like this one.

The best. Whatever you need, just go talk to them…
Words cannot describe the incredible service Axes Music has provided me for years. Not only have the incredible talented staff taught me how to play many instruments, they have carefully guided me into a career in music which I absolutely love. This business is absolutely incredible and each and every member of their staff is extremely talented, and very friendly. Overall Axes Music is the place to go for music lessons, instrument service, and professional recording.
6. Guitar By Devin
Address: 846 Coyote Trail, Manteno, IL 60950 , Grant Park , Illinois , United States
Excellent people to work with! I bought a drum set, guitar, amp head and speaker cab. All great deals.
Before my first time visiting (as a friend was performing there), I talked to Bre on the phone and she was so helpful and answered all my questions I had about the place! It is a very cool venue and has great customer service! 10/10 recommended for all things music!
Great customer service, very kind, and professional. Comfortable environment! Very pleased with the services!
Staff’s kind n’ “mentorly” (that’s a word, right?). They mostly sell guitars, but I have seen a drum set, an accordion, and a few keyboards there too. Not very traditional in their approach to teaching instruments, they don’t really go over music theory. If you’re looking for a laid back approach to learning guitar, drums, etc, you’ve got a good chance here.
Waste of time.
I stopped by this shop recently to inquire about music lessons for my 7 year old son. I was greeted by the owner who had his face mask dangling half off of his face. You would think that during a global pandemic the owner would take more care in making sure the students in his care are safe, this guy can’t even wear a mask correctly. Also, all the instruments they had for sale looked cheap.
My son has been learning piano with them for almost a year. Their teachers are also unstable. The working teacher also has a bad attitude. It’s a very bad experience!
As it is not uncommon for me to find different ways of doing something everyone else has done, I managed to break my tuner peg on my bass in a way most players have never before encountered.
While initially worried about labor costs, I took my instrument to Midlothian Music and it turned out an upgrade on all of the pegs would be in my best investment, especially in the pocket-book. Turn-around time was perfect for my needs and the cost came in less than what I had initially set aside to get 4 strings back on my bass.
This wasn’t my first time turning to Midlothian Music in the past 15+ years and love having two stores to choose from!
These guys are great to work with. The Gibson Les Paul I received was much nicer than pictured or described!! They worked with me on the price/shipping and were right on it with email updates. Lightning fast shipping! Overall excellent experience! Thanks again Midlothian Music!
This was a couple years ago from today, but i had an awesome experience. I had an issue with my guitar, so i brought it into their shop. It was way out of tune and the set up needed to be completely re-adjusted. These guys called me the next day and had it completely fixed up and ready to go. The guitar sounded 100 times better. I will definitely be back!
I love all the products but at times the service was bad, other visits there were good service. Thanks!
Stopped in to inquire about purchasing a used guitar and was treated rudely. I won’t be returning.
I wasn’t going to post these details but since they replied with incorrect information, perhaps confusing me with another customer.
When I responded that I wanted to spend $100 (not $75) the person behind the counter told me I needed to go to Toys R Us, did not offer me options or ask me any questions. THAT is why I walked out. I gave my $200 to Evolution Music. Their customer service is outstanding.
False/Misleading Product Description and no follow-up. I purchased a used Yamaha Student Alto sax that was advertised as being above excellent and completely cleaned (being taken apart, soaked, and cleaned with anything necessary being replaced to play perfectly). Transaction started out 5-Stars. Requested pictures, they sent the next day. Placed order and sent out the same day. When I received the package, the instrument was filthy on the inside and out. The mouthpiece was dirty and covered with scale and did not appear to be cleaned or sanitized. A few pads were completely decayed, several were cracked, some were caked with dirt and crystalized sugar. Food buildup on tone holes made playing extremely difficult. A handful of the rods were corroded. Requested refund a week ago. Emailed and messaged them several times. Silence from seller since.
Update: Response from vendor is false and misleading. Instrument was reported as in bad condition and not playing well within an hour of receipt and an RMA was requested 30 minutes later. Almost a week later with no response from the vendor a claim was filed. Instrument was purchased on Reverb and shipped 2,100 miles. If the vendor won’t respond, simply bringing it in isn’t an option. Reverb’s claim agent was unable to get any response from Midlothian either for several days, so they took the instrument back on their own policy.
Instrument was misrepresented. It was in an older-generation case, so it was not a “newer horn”. One of the pictures was from the actual instrument body showing it was in no way “super clean”. I did remove the keys to clean the pads and the holes to try to be a good customer and avoid an unnecessary return. It was when I did this that I saw how bad the instrument was. Purchased through Reverb, so all communication history (one-way) is well-documented. The seller admitted the instrument was a mess that wouldn’t play. The sad thing is the instrument was sent back to them in much better condition than I received it.
I have been doing business with Mithalodian music for years. I have purchased instruments from them in the past with success and maintenance support. UNFORTUNATELY, my last purchase of an acoustic guitar was extremely disappointing. The guitar after only being played a few times and stored in my daughters bedroom became miss-shaped and needed repair. I took it back to Mithalodian we’re their manager accepted the guitar for rehydration after he Insinuated that I did not buy the GUI from them. After three weeks of rehydration I was informed that the brand new guitar’s strings were rusted (after the rehydration process) so now in order to play the NEW guitar I must replace the strings that were rusted by their repair shop. Service and customer service is extremely poor and they no longer sell quality instruments that they stand behind.
10. Down Home Guitars
Address: 11 S White St, Frankfort, IL 60423 , Grant Park , Illinois , United States
This place is the best high-end guitar store in Chicagoland! Great people that treat their customers fairly and have superb guitars!
For the high-end guitar user this is the place to go when you want a new toy or to make a trade in swap deal. They are very fair.
I’m extremely happy after leaving there.
Wonderful to have a store of this quality close to home. They offer so much more than a great selection of acoustic stringed instruments; including lessons, workshops, jams, and of course the annual bluegrass festival in the summer. Especially like their great concerts by local and nationally known musicians in a small setting with no bad seats.
Every time I walk into Down Home Guitars, whether it is to buy something or just look around, I am always greeted by a staff member and feel very welcomed there. On many different occasions I have seen the staff go out of their way to create a relaxed and inviting environment and to make me feel like I am part of the Down Home “Community”. That’s why I always recommend people stop by the shop, because it is so much more than just a music store. It is a music community. There are individual lessons (which I only hear good things about), open mic nights, concert series, clinics and group classes, and “jam sessions” every week where anyone can stop in and play music together. I have also seen Down Home reach into other parts of the community as well. Steve (the owner) and other instructors from the store have stopped by the school where I work multiple times to do music demonstrations for the students, and they even help judge the annual school talent show each year. I am so grateful for this store and proud to be part of the Down Home community.
The store carries beautiful high-end acoustic instruments. They also hold some impressive seminars and concerts. If you want the very best and can spend 6K on a guitar then this store may be for you. With a larger wallet, perhaps you will receive better treatment than I did. The red-haired owner of this store is probably the rudest retail store owner I have ever experienced. Of course, I wasn’t there to spend thousands of dollars. I simply went there to buy picks, strings, tab books, and to explore and discuss instruments with other music lovers. My initial visits were often greeted by cold, stiff, and awkward personalities. After multiple visits, I expected things would warm up, and while some staff were friendly, it was never a comfortable experience. This was especially true whenever the owner was present. Pompous and arrogant seem apt descriptions, and small talk and small wallets are beneath him.
11. SAVO29 PRODUCTION
Address: 9 Meadowlark Ln, Beecher, IL 60401 , Grant Park , Illinois , United States
Great lunch spot with street side tables, plenty of shade on a hot day. I loved the farmers panini sandwich. Owner talked with us for quite a while. Great selection of wines. I recommend the Generals reserve. Great dry red wine
Stopped in for a coffee during my lunch break, great little spot! The coffee was apparently a new addition to the shop and was quite enjoyable. I can only imagine it will get better! Now that I know it is there, I’ll be sure to come back. Would recommend.
For years I have loved this place!!
My wife and I went here for a tasting and just so happened it was bingo night. We had a fun time. Friendly staff, good selection of wines, and clean bathroom.
This was a great little spot. Quite and friendly. We were there around 3 ate outside. One star short because we felt a little over price.
Good variety of Illinois wines at value pricing either as tasting group or by glass; also can buy bottle. Nicely decorated and comfortable setting. Very responsive, knowledgeable and friendly service.

Knowledgeable, friendly staff with years of technical experience. Good product and pricing. Repair techs available.
Always have received outstanding service! Have been happy customers for 20 plus years!!
I’ve been going to Music Solutions since I was a teenager. Steve has always done right by me. From modding my guitars to getting them setup and ready for a gig I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my gear.
Weirdly empty, quiet, and isolated location. Decent selection of guitars basses and ukeleles.
Has some nice offerings I usually just get strings here.
Owner is a jerk

Quality piano lessons and excellent customer service
Great local music store. The have a big selection of guitars, bass, drums, accessories and all sorts off lessons. And their instructors are really good with younger kids.
The staff is very friendly & helpful.
Great selection, great pricing, great staff.
Awesome place to buy your guitars and music equipment staff is very friendly and knowledgeable
After politely declining their laughably low offer to buy my trombone, the sales associate became unfriendly and demanded that I give him a counter offer. The poor customer service and the dismal offer to buy my trombone were very surprising to me; I was expecting far more from a business with so many positive reviews.

John is a great engineer! He cares about your recording and has incredible equipment. The bed and breakfast is like no other! Need recording, this is THE SPOT!
Great place
The Spot Studio is a great place for creating your Audio recordings and now Video. Excellent.
Both John Huber and his wife had the nerve to not let me come to an open jam due to a drug addict musician and changed who will host this jam.
Glad I’ll never go there again.
Nothing but liars.
I still went though
Last summer bash was disgusting, food truck guy used his bare hands to cut up chicken and thru his apron full of bbq sauce, cursed and thru it on the ground by the garbage can
How unsanitary!!!

I drive an hour just to shop there . Appreciate your service so much.
Great customer service, employees are very helpful and super nice!!
This location was going downhill BAD, but since the NEW management and staff got in, it’s doing 100% better! They are all so nice and helpful and the store is looking great…with time it will be spic and span
They have all of the normal dollar general items the service is slow most of the time
It’s Decent
Very friendly clean and not too much all over the place. I’ve always had very nice and friendly clerks.
You get what you hire. 1st Monee now Beecher. Store is always dirty, newer staff are rude and unfriendly, frozen units have been out of service for months, today there had to have been 3-4 bags of treats/chips on the floor, good luck finding someone to take your FedEx package for drop off. Sad days around here.
Messy and understocked.
Rude managers

Went on Sunday evening for dinner and to listen to the music at new jam session. The food was good, burgers are awesome. The taco salad was good too.
Local watering hole but food and service rocked it. People were super friendly.
Always great!!
I didn’t get to try the place. I ride 45 minutes to eat here. They wouldn’t let me in. We live in a country where business aren’t supposed to be allowed to discriminate. You can not refuse service to someone who is black. Or Muslim. Or gay. Or Christian. But you can still refuse service to me because I wear patches on my back. Never met me. Know nothing about me. But won’t let me in because of the way I dress. Maybe the food is good. I will never know. They won’t let me eat there.
Some of the worst bar food I have ever had. Local spot but not recommended if you like to eat remotely healthy.
