Very friendly staff, walked in and out with my new guitar hassle free. Didn’t push sales annoyingly, just fellow musicians.
Stopped in to get a lavalier microphone. Austin was very helpful and got me all hooked up. very impressed with the knowledge as well as what they had in stock
Very patient salesperson. Explored all possibilities for purchasing. Very nice selection of instruments to choose from. Overall very pleasant experience. Been patronizing Bounty Music since the 1980’s
Was a deal one day. Full price next day..
They have a great selection of ukuleles. Overall, it would have been a good experience, but one of the workers (possibly the key holder) kept rushing us to finalize our purchase and decide what we want to do because they were closing. Probably not the best way to treat customers. It was very displeasing. Other than him, the other gentleman helping us was very courteous and helpful.
Wide variety of instrument TYPES here yet a very limited selection in terms of brands available. Speakers are very overpriced. Microphone selection is almost completely absent, absolutely zero equipment geared for DJs, no vinyl merchandise that I could see, no stylus’ or slipmats, guitar selection was literally only guitars and 80% were Epiphone, the rest were Fender or Squire. No Jackson. No Spectre. I didn’t see a single Bass anywhere in the store. Picks are well priced however they are double the cost of any mainland guitar/music store I’ve ever been to.
Disregarding some snobby customers/regulars comments and an extremely racist remark referring to me as a terrorist, this shop is perfect for a gentrified Hawaiian or any white person from the southern United States to come and talk story/trash with some not-so-local-locals.
The clerk was pretty friendly but followed me around the store after I bought two of the only type of jazz picks they had in stock as if I was going to pocket an amplifier… Won’t be returning.
I suggest ordering online or going to Kihei/Lahaina/any other guitar store for your needs. PROFESSIONAL DJs NEED NOT STOP BY THIS ONE.
Went in to Bounty Music for new Ukelele strings on Christmas Eve. The young man that “assisted” us was incredibly rude! Initially, he was troubled by the fact that there were two wound strings on my ukulele. Then, after not being able to locate the matching set of strings, he stated that he would just “eyeball it”. He became even more rude after the young lady told him to verify by speaking to someone else. He refused. We were so offended, we left. Not enough room to finish my review..
Hey Beware,
I’m sorry but I’ve had a couple of rough experiences at bounty. I wanted to buy an artist series Stratocaster. I explained that I had looked online and was wondering if they could match the price or come close? I was told…
“If you can find it online you should just order it there, it’s easier.” I did explain that I like to support local businesses … but the sales guy was less than interested, and he just ended the conversation by walking away . Boy did I feel naive! I will say that I went online and ordered a nice guitar with free shipping and it was at my door in no time. I’ve since ordered an amp and two more guitars… all online without talking to Bounty. I have to confess that all experiences were “easier” than dealing with Bounty.
I just got off the phone with them and again I can’t believe the attitude. I explained that I was going to ship some guitars to the mainland, and did they have any guitar boxes that they were going to recycle or throw away? If so I would like to reuse them…you know go “green”. I’m not planing to ship for a couple of months.
“no” we don’t have any of those boxes…I was told, but we will sell you a Taylor box for 20$. They hung up on me before I could explain that I can get a bundle of 5 boxes for 8$ (online) with free shipping, so 20$ for 1 box is … well typical Bounty. I’m not really sure what the bad attitude is at Bounty? It is true that you can buy online for quite a bit cheaper than what Bounty offers on almost every single item they carry (this includes shipping costs).
Honestly Bounty seems disinterested and even lazy sometimes. I still go in and look every once in a while, but I don’t feel compelled to spend my money there.
1 star because, really it’s not worth the head ache to drive into town to put up with bad attitude!
I’ll give another star because a couple of the staff members are very nice… so it’s not a total waste of time…
I recommend that you do what I do which is… I just sit at my computer with a hot cup of coffee and shop away.. (go Prime!).
3. Coconut Grove Music
Address: 167 Hamakua Dr #200, Kailua, HI 96734 , Haikou , Hawaii , United States
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great selection. Best store I’ve found on Oahu.
Great staff, selection, and customer service
Great store in a new location after decades here in Kailua. Good prices, helpful, friendly staff and owner, lots of stringed instruments amd accessories. A treasure that saves a trip through all that traffic into town…
4. Goodguys Music & Sound LLC
Address: 619 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96815 , Haikou , Hawaii , United States
Served me well. Popped into town to get gigs, got some strings and talked about ukuleles.
Great guys! Awesome place. Cannot get any better!
Apropos name…Good Guys Music. They truly are Good Guys.
Helpful staff but mostly cheaper instruments.
I liked the shop.
Great shop. Nice guys. A touch overpriced.
Bought a pedal there while holidaying in Hawaii, it occurred to me the next day I should buy a good ol’ American pedal, instead of a Chinese pedal, ecspecially while in the states. The staff didnt feel the same, and seemed that it was a big deal to make an exchange. I wouldn’t go back.
I am a repeat customer and always enjoyed the friendly service. I have bought several baritone ukuleles of various value and was always satisfied. However, today I spoke with Chris? And confirmed that I wanted to purchase the cheaper of the two that he said they have. At 4:30 pm I called him to let him know that I was on my way. He stated that they were filming inside the store but he would meet me outside and said “I got you” I thanked him. When I got there he informed me that he sold the ukulele!!! I was visibly bummed. He said that the customer had the ukulele in his hand and he didn’t want to tell him no. I asked if they still had the more expensive one ($500) nah was ($200) for real. He said yup, so I told him I would purchase it. I went to the ATM and even paid the additional fee because he said would be more convenient so I said sure. I got back just as he was coming from the back. Ukulele in hand, no case or box or receipt. He even threw in a tuner. I was stocked. In my excitement I tried to tune it as soon as i got to my car. Was having difficulties from the very start. Eventually even with the tuner. Really bummed. I ripped the strings right off the uke. Even burned the tuner with my altered torch. Luckily it was enough to destroy the tuner. If I am not able to get a replacement one, even if it’s cheaper one then I will be handling this matter between Chris and myself(Scott T Kurosu). I was very impressed by Chris’s quick response. I was able to go down the very next day and after hearing my feeliepairedengs about the situation he offered to replace my uke. However I would have to wait for the next delivery. I asked him if he could repair my uke, nothing fancy just as long as it works. He repaired it and also gave me $100 out of his own pocket. I am very grateful and happy. Thank you Chris Aloha & god bless
If you plan on selling them a guitar understand they will only give you 50% of used retail price. Which means they will make 25% profit off you. While you lose 50% profit. Sell your own gear. 50% lose is too much
5. Easy Music Center
Address: 1314 S King St STE G1, Honolulu, HI 96814 , Haikou , Hawaii , United States
My experiece with Easy Music Center has Always been a positive one. I shop here exclusively
I travel all over the US and visit many music stores and without a doubt Easy Music Center is one of the best stores I’ve been too. The staff is great, very knowledgeable and helpful, and the selection is top notch. Their commitment to the local community in the form of concerts. clinics from manufacturers, contests, lessons,, etc., is really great and something you rarely see in the music retail industry. And when you see a bad review here you notice that the owner himself answers and tries to resolve the complaint personally. That is a quality business. Honolulu is fortunate to have such a great music store.
This is hands down the best place for all things Music. I remember when the place first reopened, I talked with the owner about a Ukelele for my ailing grandfather who was having trouble walking at the time. He was always really musically talented and the owner helped out after hours to find the right Ukelele for him at a price that couldn’t be beat by the internet. The smile on my grandfather’s face was priceless when I gave him the Ukelele and he started playing it right away.
My brother took piano lessons from Easy Music Center as a child and another one of my relatives takes lessons through Easy Music Center now. Easy Music Center has been just that for Hawaii and it’s families for generations. Local, easy, and always at the Center of Music.
No violin stuff, but other than that pretty well stocked music store.
It’s ok however the staff seem preoccupied with other things at the last four times I was there, I spent over a thousand dollars one time and my Taylor acoustic electric guitar was not off alignment so I wanted to trade it a day later and they gave me the run around. Plus I bought strings that were defected there were no lock pins on two of the strings in the set of six.
I can only speak to the selection of music books which was sparse, but the help I received was top notch. I was greeted immediately and directed right away to what I was looking for.
Close to early
Save your time and money. Faka’s couldn’t wait a minute for me to get to the store for a store pickup. Go to Sweetwater instead!
If you shop here, pray your transaction is smooth enough not to require manager assistance. This guy values the importance of winning a fight over keeping present and potential customers. His arrogant personality, cocky confidence, and childish name calling (yes, he actually went to name calling) has turned me off this store and has motivated me to tell my friends and family not to shop here or any of their other locations. When we asked who his boss was, he refused to provide contact information.
I will take my business elsewhere, along with anyone else I can take with me.
6. Mele Ukulele Paia
Address: 98 Hana Hwy, Paia, HI 96779 , Haikou , Hawaii , United States
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The ukuleles are a bit pricey compared to cheaper alternatives, but they sound wonderful. Really appreciated the great customer service and help with our purchase.
Visited this magical little store last week on a whim on the way back from Hana. An impromptu ukulele “jam” was happening that felt soooo “Maui”. Fell in love with a particular design (turtles)and after returning stateside, we found it still stuck in our minds, so we had it shipped to us! They’ve been so great to work with & the workmanship is just so beautiful l. Make this a stop, you won’t regret it (and spring for a ukulele while you’re there, they’ll help you get it home!)
Great ukulele shop with a wide variety of instruments and music available.
Staff are kind, patient, and very helpful. They were able to answer questions about instruments, learning skills, materials, and instrument transportation. They demonstrated some of the differences between ukuleles and shared information about different styles. It helped a lot with my decision and made me feel more comfortable making my choice.
7. WestSide Music Hawai‘i
Address: 94-239 Waipahu Depot St, Waipahu, HI 96797 , Haikou , Hawaii , United States
I’ll be going there on Monday, talked with the owner, he was very polite and gave me good instructions. I can’t wait to meet him with my husband. I’ll share this with my friends and family also.
Very cool and knowledgeable owner. Aswsome store!!!
I came to Westside Music Hawaii because I was looking for a Kala brand concert sized uke. I was very happy to be welcomed by friendly people and they have a wide selection of brands and models. My new Kala KA-CE is awesome and I LOVE it so much! I’m very satisfied with my purchase. I’d definitely recommend this store if you are looking for ukes and guitars. Thank You WestSide Music!

First time there and very helpful
8. Soundwave Music
Address: 74-5599 Luhia St # F6, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 , Haikou , Hawaii , United States
This is the best music store on the big island. Staff is incredibly nice, talented, and good hearted. They have everything you need. Would love it if this music store was in my neighborhood in SF bay area. I rented a guitar to play during a three week stay. BEST decision I have ever made. Every time we come to the big island, I will be back at Soundwave.
Nice staff. Cool selection of new and used instruments, amps, and accesories.
Friendly knowledgeable service, reasonable prices and a good selection!
Good prices, good variety of gear. Guitars and amps a great value. Hard to find, keyboards are a bit dated. Knowledgeable staff, fun atmosphere. Great place for musicians.
Best place on island for drummers
Visited the store yesterday to buy 2 ukuleles. There were 2 customers ahead of me. Staff spent ample time with those customers and I waited patiently. I appreciated the attention that was given to them and I was looking forward to the same treatment. After 50 minutes (yes, 50 minutes), it was finally my turn. After speaking to me for 5 minutes, he excused himself to talk to the customer who just entered the store. I was dumbfounded. After a couple of minutes, when it was apparent that he did not want to help me, I left. I don’t know what I said or did, but it was clear that he didn’t value my time or wallet. I wasted a lot of time and he lost a sale.
9. Guitar Center
Address: 1000 Kamehameha Hwy Suite 200, Pearl City, HI 96782 , Haikou , Hawaii , United States
Friendly and knowledge staff. Great customer service. No high pressure sales makes it a pleasure to leisurely look at what they have in stock.
They had what I was looking for and alot more. Walked out with more than what I went in for.
Excellent customer service great custom shop with a technician that knows anything and everything about your instrument.
First time here. Just killing time
Hey, a real Guitar Center on Oahu. OK selection, but Easy Music gives it a good run.
Great selection of gear… guitars, amps, pedals… needs practice rooms to try out guitars and amps (and pedals)
Music instructor is not bad, but, the front workers in the lessons department need to get their act together!! They don’t give a heads up when a music instructor is absent, when driving there for nothing could have been prevented!! Needs more people that are there to get paid for working. They don’t answer their phone m
I was disappointed in the lack of equipment for ukulele, there was no options available for tenor ukulele.
