Upon entering, my mom and I got were so amazed at how nice the store looks. Very expansive collections in stock and I was happily able to find what I’ve been looking for. We were satisfied with our purchases and will definitely come back!
Just a great place
Alot of music
Nice enough.
Lots of music. Wish they had more vinyl jazz.
Great place for CD’s and music coffee cups
The clerks don’t know anything about maners.
Employees are rude and will breathe down your back as you shop if you’re a person of color! Don’t recommend for POC! Same guy I know who’s had issues with following Latinos around! used photo of someones else’s review to show it was the same guy who’s had problems with other customers before. hope something is done.
Surprised it’s still open.

Thanks you!
Very good customer service! Super helpful! We got our first electric guitar from them ! Highly appreciated and recommended.
Best prices and best attitude!
Friendly owners, able to talk and negotiate. Neighborhood music store, need more like it.
Their gear and prices are good. I saw a few used Les Pauls going for good prices. I also saw a Rockerverb and a Dual Rectifier. However, their store needs to be renovated and their website needs more detail. There is barely anything on their web site. It is time to upgrade. I could have saved a trip, if it had its inventoey online. I would give it five stars, if it was renovated and had a more detailed web site.
A good mix of odd used guitars / gear and bizarre service. The prices are better than average. Although they know what they have and what it’s worth, the gear isn’t generally in pristine condition. This may keep the prices and negotiations simpler. Far enough away from the Guitar Center experience to really make it worth the drive from central Chicago.
This used to be my favorite spot. I bought a Riviera there a few months ago, a G&L ASAT about a year before that and a 70’s Twin Reverb there a couple years ago. Loved the place, cool down to earth rock and roller types who don’t mind stopping in back for a smoke. They actually MOVE gear too, it won’t be the same pieces every time you drop in! Now, I’m the type of guy who almost has his mind made up before stepping in the door so I just stop by for a few minutes specifically to buy something with cash in hand, not a tire kickin small talker, perfect customer, right?
Well, not anymore, not after what happened today.
I went in two days ago and found a synthesizer (cz3000) and made up my mind to buy it. But, I figured I’d see what they’d give me on a trade in for a nice keyboard I don’t use (Roland D50) and asked. One of the fellas said “yeah, we used to sell those used for 4 to six hundred but you have to come back Monday when the owner is here”
Cool, so I extend my rental car one more day, grab a few hundred bucks out of the ATM so I can buy the Casio even if they don’t want the D50, and make the trek up from West Town. I walk in, the same fella points me towards the owner. He says “are you looking to sell? I don’t really do these keyboards anymore” …even though there’s about 10 in the store. I say “well maybe a trade in or cash” He instructs me to put the keyboard on an amp to show him then says, naturally, “How much you looking for” …well, it’s 2015 and the only way to gauge market value of synths is eBay so I casually said “um, they go for 4 to 600 on eBay” expecting to reply with the standard I can only sell it for such and such low ball offer, which would have been okay with me cause I liked the place.
His response: ” I don’t want to even look at it, get it out of here” walks away and yells “I won’t give you ten ****ing dollars” then continues “I’m ****ing sick of this eBay ****.”
I didn’t ask for that, didn’t even commit to selling, I really just wanted the Casio at the slightly high price they had on it so I wouldn’t have to risk craigslist or shipping damages from buying online. So I just picked up my heavy D50 and walked out without playing his juvenile “who’s the bigger man” type of game. I’m upset I always recommended this place all my musician buddies but oh well, it is what it is.
Disappointed that they closed earlier than what is writen on the door. Drove through traffic for nothing. Call first before coming if its 2 hours before closing. 2 stars because I wasted my time. Decent prices though. You’ll never know what you can find.
David Chiriboga and friends perfromed an exciting concert for Northeastern Illinois University’s Jewel Box Series. David also presented a master class to university guitar students. Two great events!
David is a consummate professional and insanely talented. One of the best in the business, we’ve hired him for multiple events and have received 100% great feedback.
We hired David as the guitarist for our wedding and were so happy with our choice. He played during our ceremony and cocktail hour and really set the tone for the evening. We asked him to learn some songs for the ceremony and he was so enthusiastic about learning them (and did an excellent job!). He was such a pleasure to work with and a wonderful presence throughout the night. We’re so happy with our choice and would highly recommend David!
5. OTA Music Studio
Address: 4633 N Olcott Ave studio b, Harwood Heights, IL 60706 , Harwood Heights , Illinois , United States
My daughter (age 7) has had a fantastic experience at OTA Music. She currently takes piano lessons with Marissa Simmons. Marissa is a wonderful instructor; she is patient, knowledgeable, and can relay information in a way that children can understand. My daughter actually looks forward to practicing her piano every day. We are so fortunate to have found Marissa!
I have three kids who have been attending OTA music studio for about 6 months. Two are learning the piano and one the guitar. The instructors, Ms. Marissa and Mr. Pete are very skilled and knowledgeable. They make it a fun learning environment yet keep it rigid enough to know that they mean business. After each session we receive feedback and info on how progress can be made. They suggest learning tools such as flash cards to help learn the music notes. The music books that are recommended are very reasonably priced (found on amazon) and useful. Thus far we have participated in the winter recital and look forward to participating in the Spring. The recital is for ALL levels and the children get an opportunity to play in front of a loving audience of family and friends. It is a wonderful experience.
The music program at OTA is excellent! I have 2 boys who take guitar lessons with Pete. He is an amazing teacher who is bringing out the best in my sons. They love playing their guitars and practice without being asked.
6. Flatts and Sharpe Music Co.
Address: 6139 N Northwest Hwy, Chicago, IL 60631 , Harwood Heights , Illinois , United States
Great music store with lessons, sheet music and instruments. My daughter has really bonded with her piano teacher
I take piano lessons here! 5 stars!
Flatts and Sharpe has been an amazing experience for our daughter! The recent concert was amazing! We are so proud of her and thankful to the entire staff! Ricky you ROCK!!!
Lilianna was hired to play a set for an event hosted by Angelic Organics Learning Center in Caledonia IL. We are a non-profit working to create sustainable food systems for urban and rural people, educate people and farmers on the future of food in a warming climate. Lilianna was accompanied by Jason Miller on guitar.
I had initially contacted a friend to play this event, but he was unavailable and highly recommended Good Vibrations as personal friends and collaborators. It was excellent advice! Justin called me promptly and we arranged details with ease. They were not daunted by the distance from Chicago to Caledonia, and they were eager to see our rural space and play outdoors for our dinner event.
They arrived promptly, well prepared, dressed wonderfully for the event – professional, but edgy. Perfect for the vibe we wanted to create! Both Jason and Lilianna are delightful people and we got along instantly.
Now the music – the guitar cello duo was exactly what this evening needed! The playing was impeccable. Their sound was beautiful. Upbeat at times, mellow and relaxing others. They played plenty of recognizable songs for the crowd, who perked up their ears at the familiar strains of Frank SInatra and others. Our guests complimented us many times on the choice of the cello guitar duo for this event. We were so glad to have that feed back from the attendees!
I would hire Lilianna and Jason again, definitely. In fact, I hope to follow up very soon with them about future collaborations! I highly recommend Good Vibrations for your event.
We were so fortunate to have Good Vibrations be a part of our wedding day. We had their string quartet play during our ceremony and cocktail hour. They were such a beautiful addition to our day. We chose their “modern” songs, which we and our guests absolutely loved. We even asked them to coordinate with our officiant to start playing a song towards the end of our ceremony to have the refrain line up with the kiss, and they executed perfectly. If I could do it all over again, I would choose them again and again. Very easy to work with and an amazing value add to our big day.
It was a joy having Lilianna and Good Vibrations Chicago as part of our special day. They brought a beautiful added elegance to our wedding cocktail hour and provided a wonderful musical selection that people have mentioned to me several times since our event. I will definitely be reaching out to them again in the future when the opportunity arises.
8. BEATS BY THE GREEKS
Address: 7001 W Higgins Ave, Chicago, IL 60656 , Harwood Heights , Illinois , United States
Fantastic store — a total local gem. I stop by once a month and they always have something I’m looking for or I’ve never seen before.
Awesome! Lot of older stuff in here and they have a Jaguar for sale and a controller also! Brought back a lot of memories. I had a great time looking at all their stuff in here and bought Mario land for Gameboy still in the box! Go check it out if you like old games! And the gentleman inside was great to talk to too! He was awesome.
Great place to be. Just being surrounded by all the games was a treat. Also great deals on games.
I was ecstatic to walk in here and see come of the hand-picked gold he found in the wild and has in stock here. Prices are nothing unexpected, but people need to understand how the internet has driven old school video game shops to near extinction. Unfortunately I spent over $300 here in one shot and to be honest, I am only happy with half of what I got. All the games we purchased were great, no complaints there. It was the used systems I have a problem with. The PS2 that was sold to me has now damaged 3 games (2 of which were from my personal collection that I have owned since new) well beyond repair. The Gamecube we bought first had to be returned as right out of the box it did not work. When we returned it he didn’t even glance at it and just told us to grab another one he had off the floor. That one too is not in the greatest condition, and all of the cables that came with it are cheap Chinese knockoffs that cause distortion! Shop with caution, gamers.
Certainly a nice stop for anyone interested in purchasing video game systems and items of the past. Even modern ones!
The shop’s quaint to the point of comfort, and checkout is a breeze. The employees are rather friendly too.
I’d recommend a drop by here every once and a while for their stock.
Cool place overall, would’ve given 5 stars but the store is pretty cluttered. There’s hundreds of games in multiple stacks behind the counter, bins of random accessories, and literal stacks of assorted systems. Given that there’s only about 3 people who work there, its understandable that this can be overwhelming
The man running that store is a real jerk. They have no website for me to check what they give for games. I tried to look at the screen on the computer for some of the games were going for in the guy was just a total jerk.
I only give it one star because some lousy guy works there and makes the experience horrible.
DO NOT GET YOUR SYSTEM CLEANED HERE . The worst place. Received my console NOT EVEN CLEANED still have spider webs. And doesn’t play sounds and NONE OF MY BLACK DISC GAMES. And the worker asked me “ why did you get it cleaned then” like if it was my fault. Terrible place to any items . Would rate it 0 stars if I could. Workers didn’t even help me at all instead put the blame on me why my system wasn’t working. System worked perfect prior to taking it in.
12. Vic’s Drum Shop
Address: 5688 N Northwest Hwy, Chicago, IL 60646 , Harwood Heights , Illinois , United States
Vic’s is awesome! Super knowledgeable staff and really competitive prices. Their in stores are great too. Full of great musicians and famous drummers.
I met vic at the drum pad out in palatine the month of October of 2011. Last year I met will calhoun at vic’s drum shop the month of September 2014.
THE best drum shop in Chicago and beyond. Selection is a dream and staff is awesome and accommodating. Snare drum and cymbal stock is especially impressive.
However, don’t order from them online. I ordered a drumhead, heard nothing for two weeks, asked about it, was told they couldn’t access the order, and finally I asked to cancel, and still heard nothing back.
After a few days, I created an account to check the order, and it had been cancelled. No confirmation, nothing told to me.
So, in store is awesome. Online is absolutely worthless.
If you’re going to run a business that is ‘by appointment only’ then you could at least make sure that the voicemailbox is not full! Drove out here only to realize it’s ‘by appointment’ (which is buried on the website). If you run a business like that, then I feel what you have is a hobby. Won’t waste my time here again.
Custom orders take to to long to be shipped been waiting almost a month for my stuff when I was told 2 to 3 weeks never shopping here again
13. Redbox

Super
Fast friendly service and good stock selection and levels
Most of the staff is nice but others have an attitude
Purchased a Fitbit versa 2
Staff very helpful. Always has what we go there for.
Employees on phone don’t pass on requests to talk to manager, but leave you on hold indefinitely.
No one would help me with the oculus. One guy called someone but he didn’t bother to help. I bought a computer but your lazy people didn’t want to sell me a gaming system
Geek Squad technician was not knowledgeable about deleting “Other” files from MacBook.
17. Plato’s Closet Harwood Heights
Address: 4614 N Harlem Ave, Harwood Heights, IL 60706 , Harwood Heights , Illinois , United States
This location is amazing. I always find great deals here and it’s always clean and organized and the music they play is spot on. I went in a few days ago and was rung out by an associate named Ash. She was so sweet and helpful. I was buying an outfit for a date that night and she really took the time to help me and honestly told me her opinion about my choices and didn’t lie to me like other retail workers just trying to make a sale. I really really appreciated it. Definitely will make it a habit to come to this location after the stellar service from her.
love this place great sales and great deals
Nicole was very pleasant and had great customer service..
Their selection of clothing is not as good as I.T use to be. Also there has been 3 different occasions when I tried to sell to them . They would say no but The Lincoln Park location would take everything that This location wouldn’t. The staff here are unfriendly and inactive.
Updating due to owners response: Please note that I have experienced Harwood heights declining items when I have tried to sell to them but items were accepted at Lincoln park before they were shut down. I have been in the store with my mom, sister, and older cousin. Those times counts as an experience because I have witnessed your location declining items that were accepted elsewhere.
However, your explanation for the items you choose to pick was completely understanding. I was not aware of the difference in trends and demands at different locations. I updated the stars from 1-3.
90% on clearance clothing
Some prices are low, some of them are same as the stores.
I haven’t gone here, I just have a legit question because I’m so far from this location I would like to know up front how much would I receive for a brand new pair of uggs furry slides size 10 new in box never worn??? Color: black? Payed 100$ for them.
They don’t buy anything. Apparently if it’s over a year old, they won’t take it. I heard a lady get back $33 for a bunch of her items and at the same time, they are tagging clothes for over $60.
Took to long to check out the clothes you bring in
18. Austin Music Center
Address: 6815 W North Ave, Oak Park, IL 60302 , Harwood Heights , Illinois , United States
I have had some good service from them in the past, but recently I have had a few problems, but nothing to big. I found cheaper ways to get the same thing I get from here but I still come for them for repairs and such.
Austin Music Center is a great neighborhood music store. It’s like the
Old school ma&pa stores of years gone
