I love this place !!!!!
Fun, little bit of everything!
I LOVE this place and the proprietor Always new treasures to see and you can’t beat the prices! No reasonable offer refused. Mickey is easy going, very fair with prices and works hard to keep new stuff available.
Man sat on a chair reading a book and was NO help. We wanted prices on a couple of things outside and he was just RUDE! I wouldn’t have gotten anything from there for FREE!
5. Dove Electronics Certified
Address: 1370 Long Leaf Trail, Warrior, AL 35180 , Hayden , Alabama , United States
The best Organ repair guy in the business, professional, knowledgeable, personable, God fearing man. Mr Fred Dove is your go-to man. He comes highly recommended!
Excellent Service
Great place to get your organ fixed
They are going out of business
6. Sugar creek music club
Address: 344 Camp Rd, Hayden, AL 35079 , Hayden , Alabama , United States
A family-friendly, private club for music connoisseurs. Snackbar stocked with soda, bottled water, fresh coffee, popcorn, snacks, hotdogs, and homemade desserts. Seating is mainly on long tables with folding chairs, there is room for dancing in the back, the barn-like structure is temperature controlled and provides a great space for a good time. The proprietors are as friendly and welcoming as only folks in the countryside seem to remember. BYOB (and a coozie). GPS does not have trouble finding the place and there are some signs when you are turning off the main road. Check their website/ FB for upcoming gigs.
7. Gadsden Music Company
Address: 607 Broad St, Gadsden, AL 35901 , Hayden , Alabama , United States
My daughter needed a new saxophone for marching band. Gadsden Music Company has different financing ways to make it happen. I was able to pay cash and it was a very reasonable price for a very nice Yamaha. The customer support is extremely helpful.
Awesome band and orchestra store, guitar acc as well
We go here to get all my son’s saxophone needs.
Was nice
Friendly helpful
Good place for advice and new instruments. Kinda pricy – found similar equipment online with a lower price.
Rediculously expensive
If you are looking for music instruments, and accessories, i promise you, you will pay FULL retail price. No discounts there. It dosen’t matter that accessories have a 70% mark up. The best thing to do is buy it online.
Rip off & don’t know measurements for nuts/ saddle’s probably anything just a store that takes suckers for a ride
8. Art’s Music Shop, Inc
Address: 4647 US-280, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Hayden , Alabama , United States
I’ve been to every music shop in the area (that I know of) Guitar Center, Bailey Brothers, Homewood Musical Instrument Co, Highland Music, etc. I’ll be honest, unfortunately it’s a pretty lackluster experience no matter where you go around here. I wish it wasn’t the case, but it’s true. Different reasons why with different stores, but I will say the one time I went into Art’s Music Shop, it was a great experience. No issues at all, the staff was polite, and the store inventory was pretty decent. Their guitar tech is also great. Trust me, you can do a lot worse than Art’s. 🙂
If you ever need your instrument fixed, Art’s is the place for you
Helpful staff, decent prices, quality gear, what else do you want?
I called and they didnt answear
This is an excellent music shop with any kind of music instrument or sheet music you might be looking for – whether student model or professional level instrument they have it. Recommended
Very helpful and friendly
No help prices to high
High pressure sales tactics on major purchases. Uncomfortable atmosphere throughout the store, once you state that you might not be purchasing item that day you might as well be dead to them. Stuck up to say the least. Support other businesses if at all possible.
SCAM! Just buy an instrument off Amazon with Affirm or some other if you need to make payments. The markup isn’t justified by the TERRIBLE and antiquated policies and customer service.
AVOID! THIS IS A SCAM!
9. BosInControl MAFIA

I needed some acoustic guitar strings and I called and they had them in stock , and they had so much more , great service .. I was pleased
Very cordial and constructive.
Actual experts in instrument repair
Good product, Good service.
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
11. Bailey Brothers Music Company
Address: 4673 US-280 Suite # 7, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Hayden , Alabama , United States
Over the years I habe purchased thousands of dollarsof gear from Bailey Brothers. I have always found the owner and staff to be knowledgeable and courteous. I have found their prices to be competitive with national big box stores, but they offer personalized service as a family owned business that the chain stores can’t. They will stand behind their product.
Fantastic shop, willing to work with the buyer and accommodating to your needs. More selection then the “big box” and online stores but with old school brick and mortar services.
I can’t say enough good things about my experience with Bailey Brothers. I’ve dealt with every staff member over the years. The service and the product is always the best. I appreciate the professionals that work here and recommend anyone looking for an instrument to look at Bailey Brothers first!
Good selection of musical equipment. Be prepared because they strictly enforce the muzzle mandate inside. They make you wear masks.
Great customer service. Great selection. However, I was NOT thrilled to see their logo custom printed onto the snare head I bought. Would have received 5 stars if not for that. Going to remove it with some acetone.
good staff well organize not bad products
This place is as good as, if not better than, Guitar Center. But this one man that works there is not the friendliest and makes me and my music buddy never wanna come again… I was gonna buy at least $20-$60 of stuff, and my buddy was gonna get his guitar worked on, but we decided against it after our experience today.
My friend and I were playing our guitars together at moderate volumes. No louder than the other customers that passed through. Our volume knobs probably were set around 1. This rude clerk guy came up to us and told us “turn it down, there are customers in here”. When there was maybe 1 other guy in the guitar room at most. What are we, trash? Are we not customers?
Though to be fair, there was a little kid who sat behind us who was louder than both of us combined, and he was tremolo picking the most random nonsensical annoying noise (future shredder?), but he should’ve told the kid to turn down—not us. We both turned our amps off because he was rude the last time we were in the store and we were pretty annoyed at this point. But the kid turned his amp down and continued the random picking and the dude immediately came back and said “hey, okay, turn it off, that’s enough for today” and took the guitar from the kid. The rudest music store clerk we’ve ever encountered. There’s another guy who is super nice that works there who let us turn the volume up—at least 2 or 3 times what we did today—and test every amp in the store. We bought a $2,000 setup from the nice guy in the past, but this rude guy would probably kick us out of the store before we could make a purchase. I didn’t catch his name, but he’s average height, blondish, his hair is thinning, and he had a short beard. A nicer worker told us he’s been there 3 years, though I’m not sure how he’s lasted that long. He’ll probably follow you around like you’re a thief and ask if he can help you 8 times like he did to us the last time we came in the store simply to buy a cable.
Waited 15 minutes for someone to help me but instead was ignored. Ended up leaving empty handed. I literally just needed drumsticks and the person at the front was aware. Will never go back.
manager and owner very racist!
12. B&C Music

Great experience

Eeeeh
Good site
Excellent locally owned and operated business!
this place is burnt!
I felt watched and rushed. Two women were working there that day, one was very friendly. I did not feel comfortable asking questions and also it was so hot in there.
Awful place with cheap brands and overpriced / broken used instruments.
13. Jerry’s Music
Address: 1003 US-43, Winfield, AL 35594 , Hayden , Alabama , United States
Highland is a great shop for both vintage and new gear! Highly recommended.
Prices depend on who is working that day.$10.00/$6.95 for percussion sticks.
It kind of feels like grandpa’s basement here, in a good way. Lots of interesting gear to browse through, plenty of it gently used and ready to be rocked again. There are some Strats hanging here that anyone would love to own, plenty of great options for tube amps, replacement speakers and even an eclectic assortment of used pedals that are worth picking through.
Pricing for everything is slightly higher than online for same items, BUT, you get to support a local business and take it home today. It’s the kind of place I’d stop in to a couple times a year if I lived here. Character.
Guitars are really overpriced, but the guy behind the counter was courteous.
Let’s just say that my kind ain’t welcome
Very condscending and not friendly to younger people. Im not a know it all but some of the stuff the man was talking about wasnt correct. Rather go to bailey brothers theyre friendly and very nice
As a local of BHM I’ve been to Highland Music many times over the last 10 years or so. They’ve always had an interesting selection of gear. You’ll see the usual flow of second-hand gear pass through. It seems like a popular place to sell your guitar or amp on consignment. Highland also has some neat vintage stuff. They have several vintage CBS era Strats hanging out behind the counter. They have always managed to have a few other vintage Fenders too. They even have a literal wall of vintage Fender Champ amps that include tweed, blackface, and silverface era examples. So why the low score you ask?
The problem with Highland music is the people working there consistently give customers a negative experience. These guys are unknowledgeable in the gear they carry-not the biggest deal. That would be easily forgiven if it weren’t for their habit of just making up stuff to sound smart when they don’t have an answer. What’s worse than this is their attitude toward customers. Don’t bother asking to play one of those cool vintage guitars. You will only be met with a snide remark about how you probably can’t afford it. Both myself and friends have experienced this kind of rude talk from Highland Music, and it’s honestly lead to our decision of willfully not spending our money there.
I do not intend on bashing this store. I am not an angry internet troll, and this is not that kind of post. I genuinely want to see Highland Music succeed. Despite the faults I have complained about, I think it is the coolest guitar store we have in BHM. I would love to see these sort of things change.
The best instrument shop I’ve been in. The service is extremely friendly and I feel right at home every time I walk in.
What an amazing resource! Roger has saved our bacon the past three weeks as marching band and the new school year ramped up. He found a fantastic used step-up trombone in excellent condition that we purchased for a very fair price, then he cleaned and repaired our old trombone so it could serve as my son’s marching trombone that will undoubtedly see some abuse, was able to trade my daughter’s student flute for something we valued, saved the first day of class by having the right mouthpiece in stock, and then ordered a cordura case for us so my svelte son will have straps/backpack style to carry the horn around. Wonderful people who have seriously saved me so much time, money, and effort. Whatever you do, be sure to ask Roger to ultra-sonic clean your instrument. He turned our old, barely serviceable, inexpensive King trombone into a smooth-sliding, marching ready horn. Thank you Cole Band Instruments!
Nice and very helpful
Its good service very pricey though

Address: 5000 US-280 Suite C, Alexander City, AL 35010 , Hayden , Alabama , United States
I have had Andrew work on gear for me in the past. He is very experienced and does excellent work. Not just another “counter guy” with no knowledge of the gear he’s looking at.
The best in repairs!!
Great on pricing!
Stopped at this location to get a part to repair my guitar. Very professional and helpful. Owner was very nice and went out of his way to find me the right part and gave me an excellent deal. Highly recommend this business to anyone.
