This place was the best place for Bassnectar to play in. The security here is lax. Great acoustics too.
Topline: Nice venue, big acts but is now called THE FONDA.
This is place is great. One thing that makes it unique is the upstairs patio. You can go out there to get away from the crowd and enjoy a semi-limited view of Hollywood. When you buy tickets make sure you get the ones that allow you to go to the dance floor. Some ticket are only for the balcony so make sure you get the right ones.
Don’t sass the bouncers, we were in line and the bouncers banded this girl from going in because she was mouthing off.
The Fonda (nee Music Box) is one of my favorite venues in Los Angeles. Even with the recent closing and reopening, I never lost hope because the Fonda is that rad of a venue. The room is the right size (capacity: 1350) for seeing a great up and coming band or a legend. One of the reasons I love the Fonda so much is because of the sound. It’s great! You can actually hear the music and its sounds good unlike so many other LA venues. The first floor is all general admission while there is a balcony with seat up stairs.
The Music Box is hit or miss for me. It’s a beautiful venue, but in recent years, they just don’t have the same quality of bands playing there like they used to, and the shows are usually overpriced. The fact that you also have to pay anywhere from $15-20 for parking is stupid too, considering they double park you, or park you so close to other peoples’ cars that your car gets dented.
Drink prices are also very overpriced and they do not offer any food.
Saw the lumineers here. Love the little garden outside sitting area.
3. Amoeba Music
Address: 6200 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028 , Hollywood , California , United States
The best place in the world of movies, music, and so much more
You can find any music here.
Amoeba I love it there I’ve been going there for several years since he used to be on Sunset Boulevard everybody’s pretty cool there they help out and they treat you well there’s this gentleman his name is Ernesto he’s always there and he’s always very helpful he’s a very nice young man I look forward to going there on Sundays it’s like my getaway thank you amoeba from Caesar
Alot of great music from the 90s
I went in looking for heavy metal music. Unfortunately a lot of it is mixed in with rock and alternative music. In the end I just bought a shirt.
Amoeba got some stuff but not everything but theres absolutely nothing else where to buy from so if you’re lucky you may find some stuff
Some prices are too high.
Rude employees who don’t know how to treat their customers. Last 2 visits were unpleasant because of this. Not coming back.
My favorite spot to come but waiting almost 30 mins just to trade and be seen for sell/trade. This service has to be faster, it’s terrible waiting outside in the heat with barely any update and attention.
4. Stein On Vine
Address: 848 Vine St, Los Angeles, CA 90038 , Hollywood , California , United States
Gary Chen is a soul the likes you rarely find in Hollywood. Amazing, knowledgeable, fair, personable are understatements. Great shop, amazing service, and a decent human being. Thank you Gary. From Nigel Fregozo and I… Update, bass still tuned and working amazingly 5 years later (2023)
THE music shop of LA
I was around not there ! Store look clean!
Negozio storico
Called to inquire about purchasing an instrument. Person answered and said “Stein’s” and then I asked if they had said instrument for sale and they just simply hung up the phone. Apparently business is so good that they don’t have to treat their customers with any sort of respect. I won’t be supporting this business with this type of behavior.
While they seemed to have a decent music sheet collection, I was disappointed in their choices of instruments. I was looking for a new trombone, they had none for sale (or even rental!). If you are looking for stringed instruments, they seemed to have a good selection. If you are looking for wind instruments, I would say look elsewhere.
5. Sam Ash Music Stores
Address: 7360 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046 , Hollywood , California , United States
The staff is amazing! The best staff in a music store in LA.
Perfect store, i always buy my instrument details here. Stuff is very friendly and educated.
I am very pleased with their service.
Sean and team made the whole experience from start to finish such a positive and exciting experience for our daughter and family. She found her “forever” guitar with Sean’s help and expertise. Great selection (a whole Taylor room!), very competitive pricing and great store layout (we could actually hear ourselves testing out the equipment). Our family is very musical – we’re Sam Ash clients for life!
Pricey but good quality instruments
It’s a hyper experience.
I felt like my seller was on amphetamine.
So I decided not to rush into purchasing an expensive amp system.
Nice people nice place
No customer service
A young lady at this location advised me to use dunlop 65 polish on my ebony fretboard, and ruined it. My entire guitar playing experience has been ruined by this one single event.
Nothing was free
6. High Tech Electronics
Address: 6630 Hollywood Blvd # B, Los Angeles, CA 90028 , Hollywood , California , United States
David is a great guy and he was so nice to lower the price for me.
cx
GODDAMN GUY! CX
Flex gave us unbelievable service and I am most grateful to him helping our son choose a guitar…. Great range and service all around. Thank you!
This places is temporarliy closed. and from the bad reviews maybe permanantly? But i’d take this opportunity to show how beautiful the building once was. It used to be Denels Music shop in the 1940’s. i have a record from there. I love history.
DO NOT go to this place. David, who I think is the actual owner of the shop, is hell of a thief.
He looks really nice and kind, told me he would sell me a 500$ guitar for 200$ because “God gave him a lot of money and now he wants to help young musicians that he knows don’t have much”. He gave me free accessories such a cover, a strap, a pitch pipe and picks.
Told me the whole thing was supposed to be 650$ but sold it to me for 250$ (“cause there’s 50$ tax”, wtf).
I checked on the guitar brand website when I got back home and realized that the guitar (De Rosa GA300CE) was worth 112$ and that everything should have costed me something like 150$.
Went back to the store, and as you can imagine: NO REFUND.
David dramatically changed his tune, told me he had to sell everything for higher prices because he was having a hard time paying his rent. Didn’t explain himself on how he made the deal sound like something wonderful when he was actually selling me crap. What a great guy.
Never go here dude is a rip off.
David the owner overprices everything, will give you ‘amazing offers’ over the overpriced instrument and will make you feel like you hit the jackpot with the deal.
The guy is a good seller, won’t say I got robbed, but fooled. I didn’t have an internet connection so I couldn’t check the prices online, and ended up buying an instrument that was about 10 bucks cheaper in my country.
7. Thrash Metal IQ
Address: 1724 N Highland Ave #204, Los Angeles, CA 90028 , Hollywood , California , United States
Highly recommend. He’s been great working with us as first time sellers. He actually has a passion for the music too, which makes me more comfortable selling my late fathers collection to him. I know the music will end up with passionate collectors just like he was.
I’ve never met him in person, but he seems like an honest and nice person. If you’re debating on working with him, or buying, DO IT. You won’t be disappointed!
8. Brass Panther Music llc.
Address: 1555 Vine St, Los Angeles, CA 90028 , Hollywood , California , United States
Fantastic music store. Visited to buy a couple things I needed for my drum set and I couldn’t have had a better experience.
Drum area staff are knowledgeable and professional. I also LOVE the new concept where you can play/use almost everything in-store. I know this comes with a lot of expenses and problems on GCs side, but they still decided to let us use the gear instead of hiding it behind cages and shelves. (Props to you GC, as this is all a music store should be).
Also there is plenty of parking around back, restrooms, seating and pretty much everything else you might need as a musician to make a choice and have a good time.
Good bye to my old store (SA) and welcome GC to my life. I definitely had a fun time and found everything I needed at a good price too.
Saw numerous music legends guitars & Elvis’s blue suede shoes….
Very good and exciting
Helpful service, they helped me find what I needed at a good price
Their website said the item I wanted was in stock and I could pick it up so I paid online. I went and now they’re telling me it’s going to take 3-5 days AND I still have to come back whenever that is because I can’t change my order details.Waste of time. The best part was the response of “The bad thing is you didn’t call before coming”.
Not enough hand percussion products…. I was expecting to see more!!!
Under remodel. Prices are ridiculous. Very hard to shop. Lots of cool guitars 20 stories high. Not like I remember it.
10. World Hip Hop Beats
Address: 1730 Vine St, Los Angeles, CA 90028 , Hollywood , California , United States
The paradise of the every musician , find everything you looking for, famous people come here
Did have expectations of it being bigger
Great place for finding used gear at great prices.
There was man in the store he had his phone out and was recording my young daughter. He was also screaming outside about people following him. I cant belive they let people like that into the store
Leider zur Zeit und wohl bis Ende des Jahres wegen Umbau geschlossen….wäre gut wenn man online darüber informieren würde….wir sind voller Vorfreude hin gegangen und dann die Enttäuschung….
12. As The Record Turns
Address: 6727 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028 , Hollywood , California , United States
This place is a hidden gem. Met the owner, Rick, who is a knowledgeable authority on rare LPs and a fountain of knowledge. There are great finds here and will be back.
Great vinyl good customer service can discount
Small, but it was a nice and friendly place
Really cool store, but not fond of the location.
Friendly owners. Lots of rare, vintage collection. The price, well, depends if you think it worth or not. For myself, I left empty handed.
13. Professional Drum Shop
Address: 854 Vine St, Los Angeles, CA 90038 , Hollywood , California , United States
Great People to do business with!
I’m in Texas so all of my dealings with them are online . That being said, if I ever have a question or concern, they are more than willing to help, in every way possible.
Great people, great inventory and great service, what more could you ask for?
Good place to buy new and replace broken or missing parts, they do repairs on mostly all brands,
I like going there but Guitar Center has lower prices.
Great experience working with Jose. Their computer system showed a different part than the Toyota part number I have. So, Jose worked with what was in stock and sold me what I need. I noticed friendly and efficient help provided by other employees, also. Wouldda been 5 stars if system referenced the correct part.
Do not buy anything online from this place. Items that are out of stock are advertised. Your money will be stolen unless you take stern initiative to get a refund. You’ve been warned.
Don’t get your instruments fixed here. Useless and ineffective.
i purchased a pedal online. they charged my account. after 6 days in limbo i emailed them. they said it was backordered. it is still available on their website. how long would they have left my money in their account, if i hadn’t taken the initiave to email them. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS
14. Sam Ash Drum Shop
Address: 7401 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046 , Hollywood , California , United States
One of the last remaining true drum shops. This place is great.
Sheppard was very polite and gave me a nice discount!
This shop deserves each of these 5 stars! The ONLY place I shop for my drum gear. Ridiculously big selection compared to the evil empire down the street.
The guys in-store were very helpful, but, unfortunately, the item I was looking for is no longer being manufactured (one of the associates even looked it up in the system).
THANK YOU
Always get great service when I go!
The staff is super cool and the selection of stuff they have is usually off the beaten path from what music stores typically offer. My only complaint is that they sometimes don’t have certain items in stock which can be easily found at Guitar Center next door.
Rude and incompetent employees. Specifically Ezequiel, Charlie, and Carlos. This shop was well run up until a couple years ago. New store manager Carlos is not good at his job. Twice they’ve messed up big orders and not taken responsibility. Zero apologies for their mistakes and wasted time. Avoid for serious purchases.
Well the price it’s not compared whit guitar center has more choices
Went here to sell guitars, and was told if I didn’t sell both for the very low price they offered, then they would pass. Went right across the street to GC and was able to sell one for the same price they were offering for two.
Added one star because great customer service, and some nice guitars, but buyback/trade in program doesn’t even touch GC’s

16. The Record Parlour
Address: 6408 Selma Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028 , Hollywood , California , United States
Great great spot. Live music while searching trough a great collection of records.
Went on free record day, great staff, cool vibe. For sure coming back.
Hands down the best record store in LA. Every Saturday they drop new “old” records for some of the best crate digging finds you’ll find. Over 200k records to sort thru!
Love the team. Love the aesthetic.
&& Love how it’s now attached to one of my top 5 favorite speakeasies too!
Good place for rarities but forget bargaining
Great
Great selection.
Absolutely awful customer service served with arrogance. Seems to use “the best record store in LA” as their catchphrase when it comes to anything, including taking responsibility for their unnecessary rudeness.
Screw this place. They let in a person with a dog but not a person accompanying someone with a ticket. It is freezing outside. You would earn more money being kind to customers!
Anniversary sale was extremely overrated and underwhelming
17. Hilltop Records
Address: Taft Building, 1680 Vine St, Los Angeles, CA 90028 , Hollywood , California , United States
I have been doing business with HillTop since my first original recording. I received contracts for my first 3 submittals. I asked for male Country artists. Mr. Weaver and Tom Hartman are very ethical businessmen. I write the songs. They pick the Singers, the Musicians and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Lately, I have requested female Singers. New one I feel is going to be my best. Thank you, HillTop Records, Inc.
I have not submitted a Song for a while and I felt a need to do so earlier today and am hoping I will receive the fine acceptance even better meaning in this. My life has optimistic things that will bring a happy day by day family and work even music freer opportunity.
I have no complaints. My latest release I have great expectation. The Star Carol Ita White, is Singing. Song, LOST LOVE, CD Album title ENCORE. Thank you, HillTop Records, Inc. Musicians are the best. Personnel is wonderful.
I have had songs published there before. I am thinking the same for this year. They do a real good job with your music.
Anita Draughon is a shill for HillTop records. She works with them. Her name also pops up on their FB page. Google “Hilltop Records scam”and you will see all of the horror stories and rip off reports on this company. Name one record store that carries more than 1 of their new release CD’s. How come you can’t buy their music on itunes? How come their CD’s aren’t bar coded? How come none of their songs receive any radio airplay? How come THEY make you pay to get a song on their CD’s? How come their songwriters never recieve more than $20.00 in royalties? Hmmmm. I wish I could rate them -10 but google won’t let me. Beware of this shady outfit (hold onto your money)…you’ve been warned.
You stole my friend’s song , NOT COOL
scam
18. Studio Instrument Rentals
Address: 6465 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028 , Hollywood , California , United States
Great experiences for all my jobs I need gear for. Staff is always there to answer any questions or help in any way.
Great place!
Love the Champagne room!
Music rehearsal and equipment rental house.
One hell of a place to get to with a 53 foot trailer.. No usuable dock for a tractor trailer must unload on Wilcox St. And push. Tight turns and bad traffic make this difficult with a full size truck.
Great spot for instrument rental in a pinch. I’ve used SIR to rent multiple guitar amps over the past few years and they always appear to be well maintained and fully functional. They offer pick up or delivery depending on your situation. Knowledgable staff.

Dave is an honest guy who does quality work and charges a reasonable price for the work that he does he always does what he says he’s going to do and he does it in the time frame that he says he’ll do it I can’t recommend him strongly enough
I brought my ’03 Epiphone Les Paul to David for a setup after neglecting it for far too long. He worked absolute magic on my guitar and made it sound better than it ever had before! David is truly a master of his craft and I will definitely be coming back for years to come. Highly recommend his work.
Easiest the best luthier in Los Angeles. My fretboard feels like silk and playing feels so buttery. I would highly recommend people to get their guitars setup here for David’s level of artistry, he’s also a great guy and very fun to talk to.
Terrible! Left me with a dirty and buzzy guitar. Also David was very rude and condescending.
The most expensive and the very worst work I’ve ever seen….horrible paint repair on Les Paul…electronics installed wrong and shorted out…do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY
Really unimpressed. Worked on my very expensive guitar, did poor work that was very obvious, and when I called him out on it, he insulted me. Won’t ever go again with my expensive stuff.
