2. Ragtime
Address: 4218 Jessup Rd, Ceres, CA 95307 , Hughson , California , United States
I’ve personally heard one of there ragtime machines at a toy store in Nevada City, Ca . The coolest music piece I’ve ever seen or heard. Would love to have one at my house if I save enough benjamins! Great piece of Art and music player!!
Cool stuff!
Well i was in communication with the owner trying to sell them an antique piano and he was pretty rude and eventually he just doesn’t respond he wanted to pay very little and wouldnot refer me to another buyer i dont think anyone should do business there just giving you a heads up
3. Miss Pott’s Attic
Address: 2300 Tully Rd, Hughson, CA 95326 , Hughson , California , United States
Many little rooms thru out with a different theme in each
Absolute Joy of browsing & treasure hunting. Really great finds, always!
Show much to see and reasonable prices,we will go back .
Very nice antique shop. A lot of things to choose from! The prices are both high and low. The people working there were nice.
They do staining and painting in the store with the customers, so if you’re sensitive to strong paint orders like I am just be weary of that.
Huge inventory to select from but will not hold items. Very nice staff
It use to be fun, …..new owner bugs, dude follows me around, always asking if I want to put my purchases on the counter, like I’m planning to steal from him. Antiques, and non-antique merchandise are the majority, and are actually overpriced, now.
I called this place and the lady on the phone was very rude. I asked if she had seen any canning jars come through. Not an unreasonable request. She was so irritated. “We don’t know what is in the individual stalls. You have to come in and look for yourself.”
A more appropriate, mature, customer friendly response would have been, “Well, we have new items coming in daily so we don’t always know. I personally have seen no canning jars but if you’ll come in we can help you try to locate some.”
I guess customer service isn’t valued by Miss Potts.
4. Ingram & Brauns Musik Shoppe
Address: 1709 Yosemite Blvd, Modesto, CA 95354 , Hughson , California , United States
Very great selection of instruments and pianos! Mr Hendrickson is an awesome guy!
I bought a guitar there years ago,it had the most beautiful natural chorus ,I was pleasantly surprised.and very happy about it.
Family owned since 1946. 72 years of business in this community
Its a nice music shop, and the owner is very knowledgeable in the topics of different instruments even if he isn’t always there himself
Good service and good prices
Very helpful.
Shady person.
I had a piano moved by Hendrickson’s and paid for tuning as well. The piano move went fine, but they never completed the tuning which was supposed to be done at the same time. After multiple attempts to connect with Clyde–nothing. Don’t work with this business. So unprofessional and frankly, unethical. I expect more from a long-standing business like this, but based on some of the other reviews here, I probably should have known better.
Does not seem too concerned in regards to blocking public sidewalk for pedestrians especially to handicapped individuals in our community.
6. Casey Music Service
Address: 2449 Baldwin Rd, Hughson, CA 95326 , Hughson , California , United States
Purchased a set of custom wind chimes from Kyle, and they are amazing! Extremely high quality work, and very finely tuned. Highly recommended!
I had Kyle from Casey Music do a custom made chime. It is one of the most beautiful sounding chimes I own. The neat part of ordering from him is that you can have him custom design the chime from material, to length, to type of knocker and other features Carolyne
7. Hughson Farm Supply
Address: 6650 E Whitmore Ave, Hughson, CA 95326 , Hughson , California , United States
It’s a mini home Depot only better and the staff are more knowledgeable.
Always has things we need
Great customer service, good selection, a bit pricey.
Convenient to have in our little town, Ace hardware & farm supply in one location.
Good hardware store. If you need farm duty hardware they have it.
It’s SATURDAY 4:33pm. I NEED NEED NEED NEED a section of galvanized pipe to repair the waterline to my water heater. No one answers. My car is in the shop so I have no transportation to go out of town to modesto, turlock or Ceres tomorrow in search of it. SO, I’ll be forced to wait until Monday am.
Thanks guyz.
I don’t recommend this store because for the reason that, their customer service was awful and they kept my new machine that I bought from them and my money which was $500!! BEWARE BEFORE BUYING AT THIS PLACE!!
No customer service
8. Gottschalk Music Center
Address: 133 Burney St, Modesto, CA 95354 , Hughson , California , United States
Only place I go to get reeds for my granddaughter.
The best thing about Gottschalk Music is that they are very personable and will help you with your specific instrument and music needs. They will help with your specific questions and what you may need for your instruments. The repair specializes in brass (trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, tuba) and woodwind (flute, clarinet, saxophone, etc) instruments.
A little hard to find but the staff was great and informative
9. Hamilton’s Diner
Address: 7313 Hughson Ave, Hughson, CA 95326 , Hughson , California , United States
Had my first date with my wife there 32yrs ago in high school. Still love to stop by, the food is still great
Great food and really good portions. Definitely your hometown diner atmosphere.
Slow service but the waitress was helpful and friendly. Try to avoid the place around 1 when school lets out. You will be overrun by high schoolers
Great service only bad was my pancake was a little tough. Maybe flipped twice? Other than that we love this little place!
Good service and it has a nice atmosphere, my burger was very good.
Rude, lazy server. Never checked on us, a hot dog took forever to cook. Never got any refills on our drinks.
Steeling peoples money
I’ve come here once before and it was just okay. Today I went in with my 4 year old because I wanted to take her on a quick Mommy and me ice cream date. We walked in. There was a teen in uniform sitting in one of the diner stools on her phone. She rolled her eyes at me and looked back down. An older woman then came out from the back and said nothing to us, looked at the girl and then walked back in the kitchen. The girl rolled her eyes and got up. She started walking towards us so I thought she was going to help us or at least acknowledge us but nope, nothing. Just pretended to put random things on a shelf with her back to us. So, needless to say they are rude and have poor customer service and/or I’m not the right color to be provided with excellent service here. I will never be spending my money here again. Side note: not sure what all the “the environment is so inviting” reviews are about. Everything looks run down and goes along perfect with their attitude.
10. Dale’s Guitar & Music Lessons
Address: 2253 Geer Rd, Turlock, CA 95382 , Hughson , California , United States
7/05/23 BEST MUSIC STORE in the VALLEY❣️
You can get any type of instrument, accessories, repairs, and lessons too!
Dale is someone I can’t say enough good things about! He has over 25+ years of experience with guitars & other instruments. I met Dale Dec.2020,
when he restored a 1987 Alvarez electric guitar, my then 16 yr. grandson found on a trash heap. I posted a video of Dale playing the Alvarez after he finished the restoration. He even hand-made replacement plate covers for the electrical accesses that were missing on the guitar back. (36 yr old OEM covers are rare & no replacement covers are made) I was gob-stopped at the value the Alvarez is now worth after he beautiful work. Since then, I have taken in several other guitars for re-stringing & maintenance, as well as getting advice on accessories and/or other instruments. My spoiled grandkids are always asking for more. He is always patient & polite. He has even waited for me to arrive to pick up guitars after closing recently.
I have to drive to Turlock from Oakdale, but I will continue to use Dale’s as my only music store & recommend everyone to check them out. They sell all types of instruments & accessories, plus give music lessons & the very best advice!!
Thank you, Dale!
Good guys and very honest best in the area.
Amazing place to learn and it will help you too
Ya working here is pretty cool
I purached a violin for my daughter a while back. It worked for her to practice with about a year later she out grew it. I went in to get her a bigger one owner actually just did an even exchange to a nicer one with a case. Tuned it up and shes still using it till this day.
I brought in my guitar last year, 2018, to get re-stringed and Chris was friendly, even polished and cleaned my guitar for me. This March I bought a clip on tuner for 20, and it sold at Guitar Center for 30. About to sign my nephews up for guitar lessons, will be updating review in a month.
They seem like really honest and great people but don’t let their way of speaking get the best of you. Double-check the prices online through Amazon or through the manufacturer of the instrument like fender, Cordoba, etc. Furthermore, sales are final when I went to buy a guitar $350 that is actually worth $160 at Walmart’s online store the owner said that I could only get store credit .
Do yourself a favor and check their prices with other sellers online and in store prices here are usually higher
Sold me a bad violin.
11. Vessel Stringed Instruments
Address: 1110 15th St, Modesto, CA 95354 , Hughson , California , United States
LOVE this place. Quality instruments. Quality customer service. Just very pleased with our interactions here. Great place! Thank you!
I had them install 2 pickups for me: One in a mandolin and one in an octave mandolin.
The work was done professionally and quickly. I was treated very well, and enjoyed both my visits immensely. Gary took time to play the instruments and ask all pertinent questions. The cost was very reasonable for the work performed. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
I recently bought a new Gibson Les Paul that was already a really nice playing guitar as it came from the factory, but I felt like it needed a couple tweaks here and there to make it “feel right” in my hands. Mainly deepening the string grooves in the nut. Gary was great. He did all of the work right there in front of me, and once he was done with the job, he asked if I would mind if he made an adjustment to the truss rod. “Nope. You’re the luthier. Go ahead and do your thing.” was what I told him, and I’m glad he took that extra step. My guitar feels much better now. I will definitely be going back to Vessel’s for any work that requires a true luthier’s touch.
The second star is simply because this establishment has a reputation for making good violins. The three missing stars are more about character, integrity, and the love of music itself. If I throw honesty into the mix, I really ought rate this shop as one star.
But such a harsh rating deserves clarity, so I will tell my tale. I entered this establishment with a violin in one hand and a ten year old girl hanging on the other hand. The girl, having never played violin, is in love with the instrument for all the beauty and happiness the instrument has inspired in her and she has determined to invest the thousands of hours required to master it. She is however, young and impulsive, so the violin in my other hand is a loaner, the best her school can provide, and it may not be a perfect instrument, but in the hands of a budding new violinist, it is the perfect tool to test the waters and determine how deep her dedication to the instrument goes. It does however need the care and attention of someone skilled enough to replace the bridge and put on a new string.
So here I stand as one of the patrons of this little shop filled with stringed instruments. My daughter is even more deeply enthralled and excited as she’s waited weeks to see this instrument come alive again. Four people stand in front of the shop, playing together. It sounds great. She squeezes my hand even tighter. She’s almost in tears of excitement as one of the players breaks away to help us.
That’s where this sweet scenario goes wrong. What I assume is an artist, takes the violin to a cluttered work table, “hmmm and hah’s” over it for a moment, then brings the violin back and states that the violin is unfixable and unplayable.
The little hand I’m holding gets a little limp. I begin to ask questions while he goes on showing me how the strings lay against the fingerboard and digging through a small box of different sized bridges. He makes measurements and attempts to demonstrate why this violin is of no value because he can’t lift the strings far enough off of the fingerboard to make it play perfectly.
I look down at my daughter and she is failing to hold back the tears. She buries her head in my shirt as she believes her school is out of violins and without a successful repair, she will not be able to take lessons.
The shopkeeper notices, and puts on a display of making one more attempt at repair before shaking his head and saying there’s no way to fix it…however, he does happen to rent violins. My instincts had already been firing off warnings, but the distinct stench of car salesmen hit my nostrils as his attempt at an upsell continued. Needless to say, I left. I took my daughter to the car and did my best to console her as she could no longer hold back her tears. Not being a violinist, I could not be sure if i had just been manipulated, or the violin truly was trash, so I took it out of the case. If it is “unfixable,” I thought, then something must be broken because even a cheap violin is designed to play, even if it is badly. Nothing was broken.
I thought through the experience in the store. He was making measurements but not holding the ruler all the way against the surfaces he was measuring. He was being dishonest, manipulating me, and trying to play my daughters heartbreak against me.
So, still not wishing to think badly of a person without knowing, I asked around. Come to find out, this guy isn’t the only violin expert in Modesto. How could he know that I know violinists? The violin is fixable. The bridges and fake measurements he was showing me were just that, fake.
His reputation for these kind of antics is well known in the community for exactly the type of experience I have just described.
In the end, the school had found funding for a couple of new violins, and one was offered to my daughter, along with a sweet promise to help her get caught up with the rest of the class when the new one arrives.
I’d drive a long way to go somewhere else. Dishonesty is dishonesty. Play straight if you want my business.
I came in here with my daughter and Gary Vessel was very rude and creepy to her. I was asking about violins and trying to keep it normal but you can tell Gary does not have good customer service. Dont bring your kids here. I wish my daughter would have never met that man. Once we got in the car, my daughter said ” Daddy, I think that man Gary was so strange and he was so rude”. Dont waste your time here and definitely don’t bring your kids here to Gary.

I liked there hospitality.
Long time customer at GC. Experienced sales staff and amazing equipment.
Only one Jackson guitar and it was white and the didn’t have the picks I came to buy. Once again Amazon wins again..ugh
I waited in line for over 20 minutes to finally get help and when I did the item I wanted was not in stock
Would not go there if your in a hurry
Was there over an hr and never got any help and there was maybe 10 people in the store and 2 of the 10 where with me will not go back
The inside looks like a store still standing after the apocalypse. It may also have the looks of a store just raided and looted. Can’t make up my mind.
13. Hutton’s Hamlet Music
Address: 149 Church Ave, Oakdale, CA 95361 , Hughson , California , United States
Love this place! The owners are very nice and they have multiple teachers to choose from. My 5 year old son takes lessons from Danelle and he loves it. She’s a great teacher. They have multiple optional recitals throughout the year so the kids get the chance to perform if they’d like. Also, while your student is in their lesson there is a waiting room with lots of toys which is perfect when you have younger kids! They also have a music store where you can buy various instruments and sheet music, etc.
Huttons Hamlet is Fantastic! Their teaching is Outstanding! Kathy Courtney, The Violin Teacher is Outstanding in teaching the Violin! If you want to learn any instrument or Sing, Go to Huttons. Plus if you want to purchase any instrument, Book, Or any item for an instrument, Go to Huttons!
I did their theater classes this summer and they are totally awesome! For anyone living in Oakdale and don’t wanna drive to Modesto for theater classes do theirs! It’s amazing and we put on a 2 hour play in 10 days

Called early morning and was able to make an appointment same day to get my guitars looked at. Works out of his home and has a dedicated space where he works on clients guitars. He was knowledgeable and patient with me. Even gave me a quick little education on what he was doing and how I can maintain my guitars intonation. Will update more once I get my guitar back but already feel comfortable with him and plan on bringing my guitar back in the near future for upgrades. Thanks Kevin!
15. Malachi Hernandez Music
Address: 2930 Geer Rd PMB 160, Turlock, CA 95382 , Hughson , California , United States
I love working with Malachi. He is very patient and he pushes me forward with my piano lessons. In couple of months I can read notes and play both hands on my piano. We still have a lot to learn but I’m excited about my future lessons. I strongly recommend Malachi as a teacher.
Our kids have been taking voice, piano and guitar lessons from Malachi for over a year now, and the experience has far exceeded my expectations. Malachi is good with children of all ages, and has been able to take our kids from absolute beginners to intermediate in this time. Most importantly, he listens to the kids, and lets them choose their own direction. Because of this, all of them love music now. The gift of music is something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. We are so grateful for Malachi.
Virtual music lessons have been an amazing experience for our 10 year old son! He truly loves meeting with Mr. Hernandez (Mr. M) for his guitar lessons! Mr. M has a true gift to teach children music and encourage them to practice and learn. His hours are great and he is very flexible with changes. He also communicates well with his families. We look forward to continue working with Mr. M as he teaches our son the love for music! Thanks Mr. M!!
Great show and great variety of songs. John is very entertaining, has a great voice and you’re in for a fun evening listening to him.
I really enjoyed seeing JB Webb at the local fair. He covered a wide range of artists including -Sinatra, George Strait, Echo and The Bunnymen (huh?), Neil Diamond, and many others. He hit on a few of Neil’s lesser played tunes (Love On The Rocks), but also the essentials (Sweet Caroline). We had a great time!
17. Celestial Sound Studio
Address: 1116 Grantland Ct, Modesto, CA 95350 , Hughson , California , United States
Nice studio the sound tec or producer was very welcoming and had a vast knowledge of the studio great place to do your business
Roger’s price for recording is very good. We were able to record 15 songs in a 4 hour session for my album. I came back the next day and Roger did the mixing and mastering for the songs. I didn’t get to do all I wanted for this album because I was rushing it but Roger took the time for my songs like making sure there was no air noise or hum. Also, he also did the fade out at the end of the songs. It was a good experience overall.
I like Roger’s upbeat attitude and he gives feedback too so I can improve.
Had a recording today for my kids and we were welcomed warmly though it’s Christmas eve and everyone is busy. The owner was professional and courteous yet friendly and good listener with the kids. I would really recommend for punctuality, courtesy, and friendliness.
Going to be Recording here soon..Hey,Hey, Roger!
18. Mad Monk Vintage
Address: 3500 Sisk Rd, Modesto, CA 95356 , Hughson , California , United States
Expanded vinyl section. With a dedicated 12 inch section. Found some great records here on my last trip.
My oldest son loves this store. We like to go in as a family. It has tons of movies!
Love the huge selection of music and movies
A little warm in store and movies are not in any order.
This is a fun store to go to. You can browse the used and new items forever. It’s a little harder to search for specific titles, because so many DVD and CD titles are on sale for between $1-$4 and everything in those bins seem to be in no particular order. You just have to flip through everything and hope you find what you are looking for. If you are willing to spend more, the non sales sections are sorted much better and it’s easier to find what you are looking for. Employees are friendly. I bring used DVD’s and CD’s in there to sell, but always end up leaving with more new purchases than I brought in to sell to them.
Staff were friendly, but not impressed with selections of Vinyl or Record Store Day advertising. Had no shelf display or any RSD releases out. More clothing offerings then actual music. Definitely not the full Rasputin vibe the old store had.
Your employee saved me a lot of money. I walked into your store today and the employee inside your door said i had to leave my back pack at the register. Its a small bag thats my purse. I am a woman in my 60’s and it is not some big back pack. I spend a minimum of $100 every week on vinyl and some vintage clothing in your store. I always purchase enough that i get a cart when i first walk in. This is not the only place i can shop. I purchase online also but like to give my business to locals. Employee had no problem with me leaving even after i said that i shop and wear it in every week. I know you wont care nut to me it adds up! Its actually beneficial to shop online. Lastly i have purses larger than my pack, so what is the diff? At least my pack is on my back!
Just left my items there due to the absolutely rudest customer service ever! This person was rude to my wife and 2 year old son because he was being loud!
Can get help ask for help couple of men were Rude not going back there anymore!

20. Raul Slaps Music
Address: 514 Scenic Dr, Modesto, CA 95350 , Hughson , California , United States
I took guitar lessons with Raul every week for about a year, and it was nothing but amazing! He’s extremely knowledgeable about music, and on top of that, a great teacher. Now I get to play music for my friends I recommend anyone searching for a good music instructor to take classes with Raul !!
Raul knows what’s up! Great instructor and is really patient in ensuring you progress through a technique, a concept or a song. He is also really good at simplifying really complex ideas, especially from music theory. I also thought he was really encouraging which is always motivating.
Raul is an excellent musician and a supportive mentor! Professional and fun energy while creating those lasting memories and exploring music with those he works with
