It is hard to beat Kelly Seidel for service and compassion. He is an awesome musician who understands the needs of those with a love of music. Biggest problem I have had over the years is getting him to charge me enough for the services provided.
Kelly is the best tech ever and a very good friend!
Very knowledgeable staff
Very helpful and polite staff.
Super cool guys and super cool guitar instructor they are all very nice and have dogs that walk around in there sometimes and I freaking love it. Some items are a little expensive compared to online but their guitar selection is always matched or better than what you’ll find anywhere else
They ran a hard credit check on my credit report without my knowledge or consent. I’m very mad at the ding it caused my credit score. Plus it’s just cheaper to buy off amazon. These mom and pop shops are closing themselves down by their own actions. Bye-bye!
One gentleman who works there is nice but the other is quite rude and makes you feel like unless you buy from them, your stuff is garbage.
4. Gig’s Music
Address: 611 N Orchard St, Boise, ID 83706 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
These guys are great! Fixed up my ESP guitar and charged a great price. Hey have great stuff for sale and are always super helpful and nice. Best in Boise for sure!
Great visit to learn what banjos I might be interested in, as well as chatting about local punk music in the area. I talked at length with Dub, who was very interesting, as he knows a lot about various musical genre and bands playing in the Boise area.
Gigs is the true musicians music store. Dub is so knowledgeable and helpful. He’s saved my gig on numerous occasions now by helping me with hardware problems and I really appreciate it!
Great help and service. Instruments were priced Right and in great condition for being used.
Good shop. Needs more stuff.
The store is small, and the selection of instruments is not exactly large. Chances are, you’ll only find between 3 and 5 bass guitars for sale. There is usually an adequate amount of electric guitars to browse through though. Also, a fairly good selection of acoustic guitars. And, you’ll probably find some other instruments, like cigar box guitars, ukes and banjos.
If you are looking for used instruments and good deals, I think Gigs is worth visiting.
Andy, the store’s proprietor, is friendly, quite helpful, and easy to talk to. Several musicians I’ve talked with say he is a very good guitar tech.
There are one or more guitar teachers working there. I heard one was quite good, but I can’t remember his name, sorry. The teacher or teachers work with both adults and kids.
The worst thing about the store is sometimes people smoke in there. I don’t like being in an enclosed environment in which people are smoking. I tend not to stay long when I smell cigarette smoke. That’s just nasty, and discourages business.
If this store sold more bass guitars, and if no one ever smoked inside, I’ve be giving Gigs a 5 star rating instead of 4.
Sell used stuff.
Ordered a Christmas gift for my husband from this place last year, and I’m still waiting. I called them 3 times about it and was told it was on order and they would call me. Never received a call. Very unprofessional. I believe in shopping local, but not at this Boise business.
Talented man with music skills. Awful business techniques.
5. McCall Music Studio
Address: 3605 ID-55, McCall, ID 83638 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
Great store with nice people brought home a seagull s6 original yesterday it’s fantastic I love it
Gary was very helpful and very quick in restringing, cleaning and tuning my floyd rose. Looks and sounds brand new!
Pretty cool little store.
Low on inventory
Friendly staff
Really good but switched my sax mouth piece for clarinet mouth piece
Two people there. One was great and full of advice the other made us feel like we had no business being there because we weren’t master musicians. I will take my business and money elsewhere.
They fix guitars but your screwd if you got a Floyd rose. Other than that good store good people.
The person working there that day didn’t really seem to want to make a sale…. The sign saying not to touch the instruments without permission was a bit off-putting.
Then, after inquiring about trying one, he selected an instrument, took it down, re-tuned it, and hung it back up. There was no sense of being encouraged to actually try it out or anything.
It was very uncomfortable and we felt quite unwelcome.
7. Dunkley Music
Address: 3410 N Eagle Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
Very pleasant place for someone who needed tons of help.
Very polite and nice staff. It was my first time coming in and they approached me appropriately and let me know some information about some of the stuff there. I tried playing the $100k piano and I am pretty sure I instantly became a master pianist based off how immaculate that piano is.
I would like to highly recommend Paul S. He was very knowledgeable, professional piano tuner. My piano sounds amazing! Paul is a very pleasant person, was kind enough to explain how I can continue taking care of my old piano. Am a very happy customer.
Thank you,
Mrs. Bermudez
I have bought a Kawai CN25 from Marion in a total of sale price of 600 plus 13 month renting period. Ends up with about 1645 U.S dollar. I am really happy with what I’ve purchased. And Marion is very nice on settling the deals with me.
I enjoy DM very much. It’s so much fun to look around to see all the instruments they have in-store. They had the gift I was looking for (and then some). Someday, I’ll take those violin lessons. For now, I’m saving up to get myself that keyboard bench.
Back when Dunkley’s was in-town in Boise, I was an avid customer…they always have been professional and friendly all-in-one! They still are.
All of my musical equipment, specifically my violin and flute for school orchestra/band, came from here. And I am impressed with it nowadays!
GOOO Dunkley Music!!!
The worst customer service wish I could give a 0.
The Nampa location is great. Helpful, knowledgeable, experienced. I brought in a violin i bought, and wanted it checked out. So it was sent to their luthier, a fella called “Rand”. This dude needs social interaction lessons. What a rude, short tempered jackal. If you like being talked to in a demeaning and belittling way, have your string instrument looked at by “Rand”. If you like normal, socially accepted treatment, avoid Dunkley or, more precisely, Rand.
This would be a wonderful music store if it wasn’t for the poor customer service for the folk who come in who are judged based on appearance and/or their apparent wealth or lack thereof. I have been playing piano and trombone for more than half my life now and my daughter is about to enter 6th grade. She has tried the trombone but is more interested in playing tuba. The staff told her she was too little, that the other instrument she was interested in — bassoon — was “really rare,” [too] expensive, and that starting on a double reed instrument was a really bad idea…oh, and did I mention that she was just way too short to play the instruments she wanted? This is not their place to decide and I have played alongside MANY petite, thin, and amazing female tuba players. Staff should not provide input on what instruments myself or anyone else “should” play, nor place any limits on their customer. Their job is to sell instruments and they can do so without being condescending or insulting.
8. Paradise Ridge C D’s & Tapes
Address: 117 E 3rd St, Moscow, ID 83843 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
Such great variety and the gentleman man that runs the shop is very knowledgeable.
Love this cozy little place! The man that runs it is super kind and the selection and care for the records is amazing 🙂
What a fantastic selection of everything music! Wide collection of vinyls and CD’s at competitive prices!
Small place but good selection of new and classic music. Mostly new CD and vinyl, not much used.
cool little place! i wish the business hours were more well-known though
Solid collection, though not much variety in the vinyls section. Definitely recommend more for CDs (not my poison, personally)
Waited for 20-minutes and they never opened. Check website, Google, and called and there are no notes about their hours being different. I walked away and the guy sitting in the car outside the front door walked in, relocked the door and turned on lights and still didn’t open.
9. Rick’s Music
Address: 915 W Flamingo Ave, Nampa, ID 83651 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
Rick is an amazing person to work with and BEYOND fair priced i own a small DJ company and i go to him for all our needs i HIGHLY recommend ricks music
Best music store in the valley!!
Great little spot !!
Rick is a great guy, and there’s always a gem or two hanging on the wall. Good prices, too!
I had Rick set up my guitar. He did a Fantastic job. Fast and reliable. One day service. I would Recommend him all who needs guitar service. AAA++++
Last Saturday I took my most prized possession to Rick, I paid to have a set up and new strings put on my Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute pro. When I got it home I pulled it out and wanted to play it. I noticed right off the bat that Rick took a Utility knife or some other tool and shaved off the binding all around the fret board The fret board has gouges all the way around and the frets stick out and gouge your fret hand when you try to play it. My guitar is completely ruined! I haven’t slept in several days I’m so pissed. I in no way implied, asked for or mentioned that he do this to my guitar. I can’t even open the case it makes me so sick! I would not recommend Rick to anyone again. Rudy Rodriguez Nampa Idaho
10. DJ Music and More
Address: 1242 12th St, Clarkston, WA 99403 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
Always a great experience!! Everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable! Lots of inventory too and competitive prices!
Friendly and Knowledgeable staff
Great people! Awesome place to rent student instruments or pick up any other music gear you need. The teachers there are also great!
4 stars because they do have a great selection, prices are fair, and the store is very clean and organized. The staff at first seemed helpful but then seemed impatient, as I was asked if I was ready to check out while I was still looking at guitars with an item in my hand. Caught me off guard as I felt rushed after only being in the store a couple minutes and wasn’t near the register. Other than that, they have a great selection of beautiful guitars and quality gear.
Very helpful in finding items for your instruments. The instruction is top drawer.
UNPROFESSIONAL
I made a fair offer on a vintage guitar and was told that their price was well within blue book value. When I produced a screenshot of the blue book value, showing that their asking price was more than double the market value, they got really nasty with me and said they wouldn’t communicate with me anymore.
This tells me that they don’t want to offer instruments at a fair price, they only want to rip you off.
I came here to find quite a few negative reviews. It all makes sense now.
Do your homework before dealing with them, these folks are amateurs, and they lash out like children when you inadvertently point that out.
***They responded saying I offered them a trade, which is true, but they never responded to that offer. The offer that they did respond to was a cash offer within the blue book range for that particular guitar in the described condition
*****As you can see in the screenshots below, no abusive language tainted their little ears prior to them having their tantrum.
The guitar is a mahogany back and sides 1-18 that needs a neck reset and bridge work. They have it listed on reverb for $3400. The blue book value for the rosewood version in excellent condition is $3050-3600, and in average condition $1525-1900.
But they don’t have the rosewood version.
The mahogany version, according to guitar blue book is valued at $2200-2750 in excellent condition, and $1325-1650 in average condition.
They are selling the mahogany model that’s in need of a neck reset and bridge work. They have it listed as being in fair condition.
So either they’re not smart enough to understand the blue book, or they are intentionally misleading people.
SEE THE SCREENSHOTS PLEASE!
Never again will i rent here!!!! Very rude people running the counter and won’t take a cash payment!!! Thus place is not one I would recommend to anyone. Very sad
The employees are great but the management could use a lot of work. Basing this review on prior poor experience with the management ONLY.
12. Blue Rider Music & Instrument Repair
Address: 595 W Ustick Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
This place is where I come for

There.. I recommend Network to anybody that needs repair job on a quality instrument thank you Dorsey Music for fixing my loved instruments.
Awesome experience. Not only great staff like Dave but excellent product like the Taylor guitar I found at there shop. I must say the other staff I got to help me wasn’t hard to look at ither. Thank you for A great experience in my guitar perchis.
Very helpful.
Dorsey can get you what ever you want in the line of musical instruments and services. Excellent inventory, but seemed a bit pricey.
Very helpful
Lots of instruments to choose from.
It was just okay, I came to buy a guitar and the salesman totally forgot about us, I waited a half an hour for someone to help with the pending sale, it never happened so we walked out
This place has gone down hill fast
We stopped in today too restring a string on our daughters violin. An older employee lectured us for 5 min on the fact that we didn’t purchase from them. He was condescending and rude. He also informed us that the $18 string we just purchased was difficult to match because of our cheap “Chinese” strings that were origionally on our violin. (They weren’t) the guy who actually did restring the violin was really nice, super helpful and very professional, but we wouldn’t come back. We don’t enjoy being lectured just to buy a string.
14. Discount Music Supply
Address: 5380 E Seltice Way STE C, Post Falls, ID 83854 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
The man working was very patient and helpful. I appreciate that. We’ve bought 3 ukes from there so far. Soon, I will get a guitar.
Edit:Clearly an awesome place. Look at these reviews!
We’ve been going here for our music supply needs for a long time and Terry (the owner) is always friendly and helpful. The last couple times going here he went above and beyond. I had just purchased an acoustic guitar from here and after about a week of playing it it wasn’t quite sounding right, so I brought it back and Terry let me exchange it (I just paid the difference) for a better guitar I had my eyes on. And while I was there, I mentioned that my son’s electric guitar amp (that we’d purchased like 4 years prior here) wasn’t working right anymore, Terry said to just bring it in and he’d see what he could do. So I bring the malfunctioning amp in a couple days later and Terry checks it out and says he’ll get ahold of the manufacturer for me and give me a call. A couple weeks later Terry calls to let me know that he has a brand new amp for my son. Turns out the amp was out of warranty, but Terry went to bat for us and worked with the manufacturer to get us a new one anyway. Well, to say the least, my son and I were stoked and had a jam session the same day we picked up our new amp. Thanks again Terry!
I got a great new guitar and amp for a great deal, and the owner is extremely nice and very welcoming. Definitely going back. Great place to go for strings, pedals, amps, guitars, in general all guitar needs.
awesome place to pick up some guitar strings, drum head or whatever you need at a fair price. Plus they price match internet prices..
This is the soul of music place…
Needed strings. Good selection. Manager willing to help find anything you may need.
I am on tour with my band, and I am in dire need of some new sticks. We call the store around 5:30 pm to ask them when they close. They close at 6pm and we tell them we are on our way right then. Get there at 5:45 pm and they are closed. I mean, no one there, they counted out, gone. I know many musicians who tour around the area often and I have told them to NOT go to this store. Go to Burts.
I made the drive out here from spokane based on reviews I thought it would be worth it to check it out. I got there at 3:44 and it was closed. I understand it’s in a sort of secret place but if you’re gonna close early you should maybe close around half an hour early rather than nearly an hour and a half early.
It’s really too bad these geniuses have the most ridiculous hours of operation. Tried to explain to their feeble minds that people that can afford to spend money on musical instruments are WORKING for a living. Nobody is going to take time off of work to go shop at this place. Open at a decent hour and I’ll shop there. In the last 4 1/2 years, I’ve spent approx. $5,000.00 ELSEWHERE as a direct result of their terrible hours. This I must say is regrettable as I would much prefer to keep the money here in Post Falls. Note: I’ve heard these jokers complaining that sales are very poor at that store. No wonder.

Address: 1804 Borah Ave, Moscow, ID 83843 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
Fantastic experience with Fuller. We took our small cover band to Fuller’s Mountain Man Music. It’s a great studio, he is an excellent musical engineer and a UI Grad to boot! I really enjoyed meeting him and working with him and so did the whole band. I would definitely work with him again.
17. Chesbro Music Company
Address: 327 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
I love this place! Great for anything music related!
Great store, fabulous selection of guitars.
Just bought a Teton acoustic. Guitar is really nice. Glad to support a local company (yes I know it’s manufactured in China, but it’s as American made as an iPhone). Store was really helpful.
Friendly service had what I was looking for
Very nice place
They had amazing set up, music stock, instrument stock, and friendly people. Great place to go for most music needs. Repair for instruments is around the corner, though.
I went there, asked to borrow a guitar cable, and the old guy there said “what for?” After explaining the obvious, he said he didn’t want me playing anything unless I was going to buy something. He then tried to force me to use an amp that I didn’t want to use. After he walked away, I plugged into the tube amp that I wanted to use. He then came back and told me that I wasn’t allowed to play any of the tube amps that were out for people to try. My question is this: why have the tube amps out on the showroom floor if people aren’t allowed to try them? I’m never coming back.
I would never shop at this store, I made the mistake of signing my son up for their rental program which is nothing more than a high interest, high harassment loan scam. These guys are a complete joke. The complete lack of customer service, along with the harassing phone calls, and creepy home visits are enough for me to contact law enforcement. DO NOT give this company your business!
Not thrilled at all with the service of piano, lessons 110.00 a month for a child only, once a week totally outrageous. Piano gallery was way, cheaper and nicer .
18. Fiddlin’ Red’s Music
Address: 111 Church St, Sandpoint, ID 83864 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
Good ‘ol fashioned service! I broke my son’s guitar string and was in a hurry to have it fixed. Red took care of it immediately and didn’t even charge me. Shop is full of wonderful guitars! Friendly place. Will definitely be going back for any guitar needs. Thanks again, Red.
Fiddlin’ Red’s is a great place to find an honest deal and great service. I went in to see if I should have work done on a violin, long story short, I walked out with a new violin for the same cost and he played a live concert 😉 my kids still talk about it every time we go by. Thanks Red!
I take fiddle lessons from Red, there affordable and REALLY helpful. Also he has some really neat instruments in his shop. Go check them out!
19. Mike’s Music
Address: 2455 N Yellowstone Hwy, Idaho Falls, ID 83401 , Idaho County , Idaho , United States
These guys are so knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks!!
Been going to Mike’s over a decade – great new and used gear, very helpful staff. And it’s locally owned.
Best music shop in town… an Idaho Falls monument
Great customer service
Sí hay una variedad de instrumentos musicales
Great store, very knowledgeable folks and informed!
Not anything special
I been going here for the years. I’m done. Instruments are old and well used. We’re have had issues with everything: from picking up an instrument that stays out of tune to, picking up an instrument that the string breaks when tuning it prior to playing, getting a cello bow for a viola, handle falling off a case, and Most recent, trying to put a violin g string on as the viola a string. I’m going elsewhere. Encourage others to do the same.
I was given 2 piano books for my birthday and I need the easy print books…so I asked my friend where he bought them..Mike’s music….so I went in and tried to exchange….said not unless I had e a receipt… its NOT like anyone gives the receipt with a birthday gift!!! What a jerk….I wont go back EVER
