First off I wanted to say I LOVE this store. I knew of this store for a while, and went there for a pack of strings back during my first year of high-school. I remember every single detail about me wanting a gig bag for my Lauren LA 125 Acoustic, and asking Jon to play me something on it. I had gotten that guitar at Kidder Music with my Grandmother as my first acoustic of my very own. Back then Ken used to work there as well. Now Jon owns the store. Both of those wonderful people have helped me out with Countless things, from guitar repairs, simple life lessons about waiting and being patient for repairs to be done, Saving money for thing that I really want. They both are amazing people, and Jon and Ken are both my best friends. Also, So is Bloo (Jon’s beautiful puppy)
I have taken so many photos that if I uploaded them all they would take years and years to process and stuff.
Over all 10000/10 would (and will still) recommend
Best music store in my area!
Awesome place for guitar lessons and buying a guitar and other instruments great service kind and respectful great people.
Fantastic!!!! They really tailor the lessons to YOUR needs not whatever they like or want…..very impressed at their ability to connect with clients of all ages!!! Personal and professional all in one!!! Glad we found them!!! 🙂
Great customer service! Guitar arrived packed correctly. Thank you!
Guitar shipped quickly, was fairly priced and expertly packed. Good communication in all aspects of transaction.
Totally impressed with the guitar that I received from Rock City Sound! I received it within 3 days, I’ve had nothing but headaches with eBay, This was the smoothest transaction I’ve ever done.
5. Da Capo Music Studio
Address: 870 N Main St, Elburn, IL 60119 , Kane County , Illinois , United States
I am SO happy that these two highly-qualified, music-degree-holding, fantastic musicians decided to open a music studio in Elburn. My daughter started piano when she was 5, which was before Da Capo opened. Being a musician myself – I routinely felt something was “missing” in her instruction with other teachers (i.e., theory, technique, personalized “plans”/not just moving through the standard “series” of books, etc), so we moved through many of local teachers annually….that is, until Da Capo Music Studio opened! Through Kristin’s musical expertise (as she is an Indiana University grad!) and caring instruction, I knew my daughter was receiving the high-quality, well rounded music instruction I had searched for over the 3 previous years.
My daughter added guitar lessons with Ben a short time later and has thrived from his instruction – recently receiving 1st place at GrandQuist Music Competition in Summer 2015 in the Olympic category – obviously, she is receiving high-quality guitar instruction from Ben Westfall’s music Conservatory education.
As a parent, I love the performance opportunities that Da Capo offers. The monthly recital opportunities showcase their students’ learning in a public setting. There is no other studio in the area that prepares their students with the numerous recital opportunities, nor as musically thoroughly. Highly recommend!!
My daughter has been a piano student at DaCapo for 6+(?) years. Kristin is a phenomenal teacher! She is patient and kind but firm when needed. She has built up my daughter’s confidence so much. I am amazed at her piano playing abilities. Kristin constantly challenges her to push further. As a result, my daughter has played (and won) at the Granquist competition in Geneva; she has played at community events; and she is now playing in duets and small groups – not just as a solo piano player. Da Capo strives to provide a fun, professional learning environment that achieves results. I would highly recommend them!
My daughter has been taking piano at Da Capo for five years, and our experience with Da Capo could not be any better. Kristin is an excellent teacher, and my daughter loves taking lessons from her. She is very professional and caring. Highly recommend!
My son walked out and started crying never wanting to go back. 🙁 he said the teacher was mean and too strict. It was his first lesson ever. Loosen up lady he’s 10
I brought up the fact to a “manager” that I was charged a late fee for lessons that hadn’t happened yet. I was reasonable and calm in tone. Late fees should be charged if the bill isn’t paid after delivery of goods. That’s how a business works. I tried dropping the issue multiple times after he explained the late fee, but he kept on fighting me to the point where I was just trying to walk away and he was accosting me on the way out. It’s a shame because my instructor was really good. Great instructors and Kristin one of the admin is great, but otherwise hostile admin.
Fantastic place for string and brass and woodwinds Tom was friendly and I had a wonderful time .. School is right around the corner and this is a great place to start!
I liked it! I went in with a broken bass we bought there and he let me trade it out for another that wasn’t broken. I think the owners nice and helpful. 4 stars definetly!
Tom the owner really knows nothing about nothing. His prices are way inflated and he does not want to negotiate on his used items….by the way most have issues that have not been resolved prior to him offering them for sale. He acts like he knows everything because he carries around some history book to try to sell people on…..FYI a Bach made in one year does not mean a Bach made in another year is of same quality and/or price.
made a deal with me on craigslist then sold it before we got there. This guy is the lowest of the low. Don’t do business here.
I bought a trumpet here a few weeks ago. I tried negotiating on a few trumpets and he said he was ” firm on his prices “. That’s a reasonable answer, so I stopped questioning his prices. I was naive to look up the trumpet I had purchased AFTER my two hour ride home. To my surprise this man made a 100% profit. Yes, he sold it to me for twice its worth as a a new one. That’s IF he bought it new, but he mostly likely bought it off someone for a few hundred dollars and created a bigger profit for himself. He has no shame in selling it to me and ripping me off as he was all smiles when I left the store with the instrument. Horrible place to shop. If you do shop here, look up the instrument you are getting.
New Vintage Strings was the perfect touch to our daughters wedding! The guests were entertained beautifully throughout the ceremony and then into the cocktail reception. It was an easy decision to go with the full quartet and Jeremy was a delight to work with. I highly recommend New Vintage Strings!
New Vintage Strings helped to make my daughter’s wedding amazing! They were fantastic and so many of the wedding guests commented on them. They played for both the wedding and the cocktail hour. The variety of songs they have on their playlist covers so many different genres. They are a top notch group that I would highly recommend to anyone.
Loved the energy of this group. The music was wonderful and felt like a luxury to enjoy.
What a cool studio/music shop! My son was able to play different cellos and figure out which one was best suited for him. Evan was super helpful and flexible with our appointment time.
Evan is a very resoectful guy, I came in with hundreds of questions from strings to technique…. he took so much time with us and offered much help! He’s a great guy, with lots of knowledge and wonderful to work with!
You have to come to this shop!
We recently went shopping for our son’s first intermediate level cello. We looked at numerous places, both locally and in Chicago. StringWorks is worth a visit. Their instruments are beautiful, both visually and acoustically. Evan helped us on our journey to learn and explore a variety of cellos. His knowledge, patience, and experience made this process comfortable and exciting. His willingness to help us went above and beyond our expectations, including personally dropping off cellos to our house for a home trial. I am thankful this business is part of our town!
Nope! I am going to let the pictures speak for themselves. This was supposed to have been worked on by the head luthier, took 3 weeks to arrive, AND cost $1,500! looks like a junior high project that would have gotten a poor grade. I could not ship it back to them fast enough! Utter trash.
So very disappointed. I guess they are lucky that I am not reporting them to the BBB.

Wonderful family owned business. Wide range of lessons.
Great teachers. Great clean environment.
Best place for music lessons. We can’t thank Aaron enough for his amazing teaching skills and helping my son excel in piano.
It was great. Love the horn sections. Do that again!!
Great place for beginners to get lessons, to shop for a “newbie” instrument, or for experienced players to pick up sticks, strings, and other accessories.
Go to Cremer for repairs and guitar center for purchases. These guys don’t want your business. They are rude (if you can even get them to talk to you at all), slow, unhelpful and they do not care that you exist. I do not understand how they stay open.
I’m going to drive an extra ten miles today to buy strings because Hix doesn’t deserve my money (especially because they charge twice as much as guitar center for the same set of strings).
Terrible customer service, horribly overpriced
THIS is LONG overdue.
I came into the store with a 5 gallon empty water jug that I was going to fill at ACE Hardware next door. I set it down out of the way with the intention of just QUICKLY checking the prices on drumsticks. The manager yelled at me for bringing it in. Not wanting to cause any commotion, I tried to apologize to him while he was outside smoking. He avoided eye contact, looked away and just mumbled “Uh-huh.”
Fast forward years later, I came in looking for prices on throat spray and in-ear monitors. After asking the man behind the counter a price, a young salesman behind me said “REAL expensive!” Ignoring his arrogant comment, I then asked a price or prices on in-ear monitors…he did it AGAIN!
“REAL expensive!” How arrogant and rude.
He quickly came up to the counter uninvited and REALLY made me feel like I had no business being there.
I will NEVER go back there again. Shame on me for keeping quiet. Nice going HIX BROS. You lost a potential customer. Real intelligent. Hope it was worth it. If you want to be rude and arrogant to complete strangers, go move your business to Geneva.
Jared has been guiding and motivating me for close to 3 years. I look forward to my time with him as I always come away with new ideas on how to play better. He is encouraging by emphasizing the positives and enlightening me with methods to improve what I do. I couldn’t ask for a better teacher!
Jared has explained things that to me that I have learned about in the past but only now with him as a teacher have I actually been able to understand and apply the material to make my guitar playing much more advanced! I look forward to every lesson because of Jared’s upbeat attitude and his encouraging and motivating personality.
Jared is an incredibly knowledgeable and well versed guitar teacher. His empathic method of teaching helps musicians of any level feel important and confident in their instrument. I highly recommend his services to anyone who wants to learn guitar from the best in the business.
I was planning a trip to the area on unrelated business and decided to purchase the Zenith while at it. Seller was available on short notice for the hand off. Everything went smooth. Took the radio home and set it in my living room. It sounds great for an 80+ year old radio.
There is not a scratch in the cabinet, it looks great!
Great place to do business with. Very helpful and knowledgeable.
Worked with me to get the finished product delivered. Buy local and USA products.
Excellent service. Superior workmanship. Went the extra mile for me. Will do business with again.

Abigail did amazing! I wouldn’t think my wedding would be what it was without her playing! she knows what she is doing and is so helpful with picking out music! she is simply the best!
Brought my tele in for a much needed refret and Scott took the time to go over my options and we settled on the size of wire and went with stainless. When I got the guitar back I was very impressed with the quality and workmanship. It plays so much better and no dead spots. The intonation was as good as you can get on a three saddle tele. Highly recommended!
They do great work on guitars, as well as building custom guitars. I needed a small repair, and they did it quickly and didn’t charge much. I’ll definitely bring all my guitars to them.
One of my guitars is an old Ibanez and its electronics hadn’t worked in decades. The metal parts were corroded and I didn’t know if it would ever be playable again. I brought it to Fat Cat and Scott fixed it up and got it working for a very reasonable cost. I’m so glad I can actually play it now. I can’t wait to bring it to jam night tonight and show it off! Thanks Scott!
