A great destination for locals and weekenders alike. We walked around all day one Saturday and saw amazing art in the 4 local galleries and stopped for a delicious sandwich at the cheese shop. Spent the rest of the day strolling through the town ducking in and out of cute little book stores, design stores, and antique stores.
Kent Barns is a artfully landscaped cluster of architecturally distinct contemporary barns just off Main Street in Kent, CT. The buildings are a destination for contemporary art and design lovers who can visit four fine art galleries each with a unique specialization and focus. RT Facts occupies the largest of the barns and offers a kaleidoscope of antique and contemporary bespoke furniture and home decor. 109 cheese has the ultimate selection of gourmet cheeses, soup and sandwiches. This beautiful complex is an ideal destination in the hills of Litchfield County.
Kent Barns is located off of the main walking street in Kent. Venture behind the House of Books and you will discover a beautifully manicured cluster of barn-style buildings housing very special art galleries and furniture shops. Beautiful architecture and landscaping that feels like a small country version of the High Line. A nice place to walk your dog or push a stoller. The galleries stay open late on warm weather Saturday evenings, offering wine and often live music .
2. Wilson’s by High Watch
Address: 8 N Main St, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Baked goods are to die for. Friendly and efficient staff. Big menu with lots of delicious choices.
The food was great and staff was extremely friendly. I also love the fire place and comfortable furnishings. Just seemed like home.
The best bread and food.
The food and desserts are high quality. Whoever is baking is obviously trained in the pastry arts. The one big thing I dislike is that the employees all seem kind of cold and standoff-ish. I’ve been there 4 times now and it’s like that every time. Almost no one smiles and I feel like I’m pestering the employees by simply placing an order. Not a welcoming vibe. Also, one time I ordered a sandwich and was waiting there for 20 minutes like a dope. No one called out that my order was ready; it was only after I asked about it that they handed me my bag, sitting to the side. Not even an apology. They didn’t seem to care.
Excellent coffee beverages and good food. I didn’t try the pastries yet but those look amazing, too.
Ordered a bagel with egg and cream cheese that took 30 minutes to make. I’m generally understanding of the fact that places like this get packed and busy but I was with a party who all got their food immediately. When I went to inquire about my order, I got a snippy response about sitting down and waiting. I ordered a bagel, not coq au vin. I’m being fair and giving a 3-star rating because the food is decent, but wow that was a rude experience.
Not only was this place and prepared for any kind of a crowd. The wait time for the food was over an hour and after I got my sandwich there was a large black hair in it. This place is overpriced and service is terrible.
Do yourself a favor and drive down to seven there’s a diner in a shopping plaza and the food is through the roof the portions are huge and the price is on believable.
The name of the diner is Gaylordsville diner. I had a huge breakfast sandwich which I couldn’t finish for only four dollars. And my dad had a full meal pancakes eggs sausage we had coffee and did a total bill was $17. This is the place to go. Be careful of this place in Kent they think they can charge through the roof for a food that has hair in it
Horrible! Not child friendly
We live in town and we’re so excited for this place. We were meeting other mommies. They messed up my order after a long wait. I reordered paid more. Then I waited. Now this is a place where you get sandwiches and it took an hour. Mommies came and left while I waited for a bagel. People behind me finished eating. My babies screamed because their friends, who came after us had finished and left. My food came out when I was packing up and I said I have two screaming babies and can’t be here all afternoon. They said I can have a refund asking for my reciet. I said it’s okay, we have to go I have two screaming babies. The manager said what do you ffffff want! As I left. It was extremely rude and to say in front of children and from a manager.
The food, atmosphere and overall aesthetic are quite nice and new after the buildings remodel. While the concept and benefit to the rehab graduates are wonderful, High Watch is crippling local businesses by underpricing their entire menu. They are an incredibly profitable rehab, clearly utilizing Wilsons as a tax haven and added component to their sales pitch to perspective families sponsoring patients at their facility. They can co-exist within the Kent community but have chosen not to. I hope they will soon adjust.
I recently also learned of a Covid outbreak at Wilsons in which they made no attempt to alert incoming guests, which was frustrating to learn after the fact. To add insult to injury, I overheard a high level High Watch employee discussing plans to add additional businesses in the neighboring buildings.
I believe in the concept but High Watch needs to be a part of this community, not a detriment.
3. Kent Wine & Spirit
Address: 5 Bridge Street (Route, 341, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Great selection and outstanding service. My wife and I got great recommendations and even help crossing the street with a few bottles.
They have the best selection of all liquors here. My new go to spot.
Excellent wine selections, fair pricing. Top notch customer service – will order you what you are looking for if they don’t have it.
Good selections of beers and if you don’t see it, just ask. Very knowledgeable owner
Nice people
Nice selection of wine.
Harassed me when I came in over the weekend, I provided valid ID and Military ID but that was not enough for these people. Completely disrespectful and will never come here again.
4. Sundog Shoe & Leather
Address: 25 N Main St, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
I love shopping at Sundog! The staff is very friendly and helpful!
Very professional staff. Always willing to help.
Great shopping experience, friendly staff and fair prices
I was quite peeved at the owner’s refusal to serve me without leaving my backpack & it’s very expensive contents outside. The owner was unwilling to offer a safety guarantee or an alternate location for the bag. I feel alienated as a client & firmly believe the treatment given was unique to me being a backpacker. I can’t imagine the owner asking my elderly mother to leave her walker, or my baby’s stroller outside, so what makes my backpack different? I voted with my dollars as I’m disheartening at retailers like this giving retailers like myself a bad name. I would challenge the owner to bring his policies into the 21st century.
5. Royal Enfield of Kent
Address: 21 Bridge St, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Rick is crazy enthusiastic about bikes , knows a lot about brands, brand history and technical aspects. But, his builds are not just buff and puffs, they look hand built in the best meaning of the term. I’m in Texas where we are the home to some great custom builders, but I’m seriously looking forward to getting a custom from Iron Horse Customs.
Yoda,
Owner
Rolling Thunder Roadhouse
Great service. Unique motorcycles. Helpful and knowledgeable staff.
We recently purchased two Himalayans through Iron Horse. Kerac was great to deal with, the shop was well stocked, and the process of purchasing was smooth. Overall it was a good experience.
Not sure it’s actually a business. I stopped in on Friday. I walked in and greeted someone, who seemed like the owner, and the guy literally walked past me without even returning the greeting. I poked my head in the back and asked someone in the shop who to talk to about making a purchase. I was told that the guy I need to talk to is out getting pizza. Not really sure what to make of this place. 2 stars for having some sweet cb750’s on display.
6. Quality Thrift Shop
Address: 99 N Main St, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Ian & his team were fantastic – professional, on time, proactive & friendly during the installment & follow up.
Quality team.
After years of dealing with dropped calls and poor wi-fi signal, Ian and his team were able to fix my issues in one visit. I now have a fast and reliable internet connection. I wish I had called these guys sooner.
I could write so much here and it is all positive! The advice, the installation, the attention to detail, the technical knowledge, the responsiveness, and the follow up to see how I am doing. All of it! Every person I have worked with has been super friendly and super knowledgeable.
8. Fife ‘n Drum Restaurant & Inn
Address: 53 N Main St, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Exactly what you’d hope for on a day trip to quaint little town. Delicious food. Beautifully set for the holidays. Fireplace roaring. Great.
Expensive but really good food. The draught beer selection could be better.
Very good. Had bad experiences in the past but this visit really craved my mind about the nice local restaurant.
Live music! Cozy bar and great drinks.
Fife ‘n Drum Restaurant & Inn is celebrating 50 years for a good reason. With its charming atmosphere, exceptional service, and delectable menu options, Fife ‘n Drum has become a beloved institution in the community. From their perfectly cooked steaks to their mouthwatering seafood dishes, every meal at this iconic restaurant is an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime patron, Fife ‘n Drum never fails to impress, making it the go-to spot for any special occasion or simply a delightful night out.
The servers were kind and timely, the atmosphere was nice and the pianist was great; but that’s about where the pleasantries end.
The food was subpar and overpriced for what they offered, with skimpy toppings and portions. Regardless I could’ve looked past that, but other random things like not giving us bread even though everyone else got it, charging me $2 to REMOVE cheese from my dish (that’s a first) and a few other small things. The place is weird, we wont be returning.
Worst dinner me and my girlfriend have ever had. I didn’t even mind spending the 100$ because we still joke about it to this day. We have been there a multiple times and never were to impressed and tried giving it a few tries. The last and final time on their 50th anniversary was the icing on the cake. We both ordered specials 30$ a plate, a thai noodle and a lobster mac and cheese. The plates came out and it was soup. Could not even see the pasta or noodles which may have contained a cup at best. Mind you neither description said soup, or cheesy water. Disappointed is an understatement. Over priced for what it is.
bad and burnt food. bad service. WiFi is even crappier. never gonna come back
9. Last Redoubt LLC
Address: 11 Bridge St, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Thanks Chris for working with me to pick out the ideal 22 target pistol. It’s great to have your shop in town. I always meet wonderful people while visiting – the source of potential new friends. Thanks also for advancing the great American heritage of responsible firearm ownership.
Christopher Chevalier
Chris is a wealth of knowledge of armory and our rights as Americans, he is an exceptional trainer, he is patient and kind, even for those with minimal experience and knowledge, which shows great character, especially since he is a retired veteran who served and protected this great nation as a Senior Captain of The Rangers! Need I say more, if you have ever read the Ranger Creed, that is Chris! My husband and I will continue to learn and buy our armory from Chris at Last Redoubt!
Chris has been an old time friend who has always gone out of his way to help others. When he told me he was opening up a gun shop in Kent, I decided that it was time to pay him back and only go through him. I have plenty of gun shops I can go through that are closer but choose not to. Why, because he is extremely knowledgeable on the law and all types of firearms. He will give guidance when asked and will order what is wanted. His professionalism is military based and that is a feature only earned. Pricing is extremely fair and his variety of firearms is full spectrum, from EDC to collectors, stop on in and be amazed.
Signed up for pistol course. Chris never showed up. Called him from the parking lot, said he canceled the course. There was no call, no voicemail and no email from him. Nice guy I’m sure, just unorganized.
Walked in, then heard people shout take your mask off. One of them is standing 15 feet away with his hand on his weapon ready to draw. Not a great experience when you’re looking for ammo.
10. Wager Studios
Address: New Milford, CT 06776 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Nice staff and all but theu more control over the lobby/waiting aream they have civil parents waiting for their kids other parents lets their kids run around being aloud. Its supposed to be a quiet stufio not a zoo
11. Bull’s Bridge Country Store and Smoke Shop
Address: 337 Kent Rd, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
they stand apart as a unique and genuine country store despite all the growing sameness of generic corporate convenience stores in the surrounding area. In the summer I see AT through-hikers sitting at the picnic tables outside as they get more supplies for the trail. Locals stop in for their daily coffe, snack and newspaper. Weekenders rely on this first stop in the state to grab goodies to start their vacation. I stop in whenever I’m in the area to grab a few things, but mostly to chat with the friendly owners, who have been there for a couple of decades (love the local knowledge).
Kind and helpful, interesting assortment of items, and fair prices for a convenience store. Emphasis on the friendly atmosphere, so rare in stores.
Nice
Obviously, the positive reviews for the Bull’s Bridge County Store are fake!!! My girlfriend and I bought a banana and a small hot chocolate and were shocked when we were charged $4.25!!!!!!!! Avoid this store and their rip-off prices who prey upon innocent travelers and hikers passing through.
This is the second time that I bought a vape pen battery that didn’t work. $45 combined total down the drain buyers beware not sure where they got those batteries from
12. W Rhythm Fitness and Wellness Studio
Address: 25 N Main St Unit 2-10, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Almost fifty years ago, I studied Pilates with one of Joe Pilates’ close assistants. And I can tell you — Wanessa knows her Pilates! Plus, she keeps things light-hearted and fun (even when you’re sweating). I recommend her to all who need a little (or a lot of) physical Renaissance in their life.
Wanessa’s incredible energy and beautiful generosity of spirit are totally inspiring – such a warm, welcoming studio experience!
I have been enjoying the benefits of the W. Rhythm Fitness program with Wanessa for over 7 years. At every class there is something new and I appreciate how Wanessa is always learning more about the mind/body connection she promotes. I was away for a month and when I returned I felt stronger – literally within a week. The studio is warm and inviting and the energy is amazing!
13. Sophie’s
Address: 1 Kent Green Blvd, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Only reason to visit Connecticut! Best food and sexy presentation! Sophie’s is the place to be!
Amazing soup and super friendly people!
Impeccable service and quality.
Great place, the menu is extensive and creative, friendly service, not in the main strip, I hope it makes it, winter will tell.
The staff was very friendly. I found the food to be pretty average. Got the BLT on focaccia for lunch. Found the portions to be a little small and the focaccia to be kinda crumbly. Sorry.
Sophie’s is the place to go in Kent if you’re looking for fresh baked goods.Their bakery offers a wide variety of pastries, breads, and cakes that are made with the finest ingredients. Whether you’re craving a flaky croissant or a decadent chocolate cake, Sophie’s has got you covered. Sophie’s is the ultimate destination in Kent.
14. Preschool Piano
Address: 69 Bear Hill Rd, New Milford, CT 06776 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
My 3 year old has been taking lessons with John for about a year now. She loves it and fights with her sisters on who gets to go first. John is fun, motivating, patient and kind. Despite not knowing her numbers and barely having a grasp on the alphabet, she has learned a couple of songs, rhythms and landmarks on the piano and can recognize mistakes. All while having fun my preschooler is learning numbers, letters, counting, music, critical listening and I’m sure all sorts of beneficial social skills. I highly recommend John and his music by number program.
At the age of 72, looking forward to learning to play the piano for personal enjoyment . . .AND it looks like I’ve found just the resource to help. Clearly written and easy to follow . . .Thanx John!
John is a good teacher who is willing to teach every student in their own way and understand their learning path and adjust accordingly. I was a previous student of John but don’t live near him anymore unfortunately. I can confidently say he is the best teacher I’ve had for piano as he understands how to work around difficulties and teach you how to overcome things that would seem impossible when learning how to play piano and read music, while remembering and valuing the skills he offers. We’d be done with a few lessons and I could play 2 handed songs like Clocks by Coldplay and without sheets to read I could remember it in my head. If you’re a student of Johns you’ll be in good hands!!!
15. The Music Shop
Address: 22 Mc Dermott Ave, Torrington, CT 06790 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Our 13 year old son has been taking private saxophone lessons at ” The Music Shop” for over 4 years, starting with Leo Liddle. Keith Wilson, a very talented musician took over as his teacher and we love his dedication and perseverance to help expand our son’s musical knowledge with the sax, while also making it fun. The expansion of his new location makes the updated atmosphere a wonderful learning environment, and also has great on site repair service.
Keith took great care of me! I’m a beginner guitar player and broke one of my strings, had no clue what to do. I purchased the strings there and he taught me how to put them on right in the store. He even tuned my guitar, and gave me some tips to keep it maintained. Service like that is RARELY found. TY Keith!!
My Mom has not played her violin for well over 45 years. She and my daughter visited The Music Shop for the first time today and were very pleasantly surprised at the warm welcome and down home kindness that were shown to them. The owner helped her string her violin and now she can pursue her hobby once again. She told me, “It made my day and gave me back the gift of music to fill an empty spot I have had for a long, long time!”
Deborah is awesome and very patient with new students and questions thrown at her. She gives individual attention to all that need it. I have attended many of her sewing classes and seen the beautiful quilts she’s made, alterations she has done for people, and clothes she has made for herself. A truly amazing and gifted seamstress. Her classes are always fun, and well sized to give everyone room to work. We have made table runners, aprons, tote bags, and been given help with some quilting projects. I always cannot wait for the next class to begin!
I had a few items that needed alterations. Deborah took the time to understand exactly what I wanted done. I could not be happier with the results and also the quick service. She is very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. A positive experience for myself… I Highly recommend.
Deborah gives the most amazing sewing lessons! I have learned so much and it’s always really fun! She is so skilled and a great teacher, no question is too big or too small for her to answer. Her alteration sewing is perfection and she has her own pieces on display for you to admire. Highly recommend!
17. Kent Chamber of Commerce
Address: 12 Maple St, Kent, CT 06757 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
Our daughter, a high school senior who is applying to college music programs on bass guitar, unexpectedly lost her bass teacher right before her pre-screen audition tapes were due. Joe Burcaw, who had never even met her before, took her all the way through the process – including filming the application videos at his studio. Because of him, she was invited to audition at her first choice college, U Miami. He has prepared her for live auditions, giving her confidence, enhancing her technical skills, and teaching her music theory. She is dyslexic, so reading music is difficult for her, but Joe is able to help her with that as well. He is a gem; not only a gifted teacher and talented musician, but also a caring and patient person. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
We love Bearclaw! Wonderful staff and teachers. We definitely recommend it.
Our students love the staff at Bearclaw. They are warm and caring instructors who really know their stuff. Thank you, Joe, for sharing them with us!
20. Prelude Music Center LLC
Address: 100 Corporate Dr UNIT A101, Trumbull, CT 06611 , Kent , Connecticut , United States
When it comes to customer service, technical know-how, and offering quality products and services, the guys at Prelude Music Center are at the top of the list. Jonathan Brittin is an exceptional piano tuner (and a really nice person!) and has repeatedly gone over and above to give his clients and customers what they need. If you’re in the market for a new or used piano, or need to have yours tuned, moved or even stored for a time, you will not be sorry you contacted Prelude Music Center.
We traded in our baby grand for a pre-owned Baldwin through Prelude. Jonathan Brittin worked diligently to find a piano that would meet our needs and had the flexibility to coordinate the pickup and delivery at two different locations since we were moving houses while all this was going on. The few minor maintenance issues we have had with the piano since its purchase have been more than satisfactorily addressed.
