So nice to work with local people, who understand the needs and can help get you exactly what you are looking for!!!
Great place to have your music Instrument worked on!
Neil, the gentleman that runs this store is top of the line, I’ve been to music stores where they act like they don’t want you to touch anything and some of this I understand, but I enjoyed the time I spent there and the prices were right, I will buy my next guitar from Neil
Average music store
Good prices
The website says its open till 5 on Saturday not 3
I had to have my horn sent to Alton because this tech in Centralia is discriminatory against people with disabilities. Had to drive two and a half hours 200 plus miles and no discount for a simple repair I will never use them again thinking about taking legal action.
Good stuff just could be better with details and price

I visited The Music Shoppe while looking for a violin for my daughter. The staff was beyond helpful each time I visited, willing to go the extra mile in service, education and professional evaluation while we were discerning which direction we wanted to go. I highly recommend visiting, even if you’re unsure what you’re really looking for, like I was. You won’t be disappointed!
Excellent Staff
Staff is helpful and they have lots of instruments to view. One bad thing is that they always seem to make you feel like they are waiting for you to steal something. I realize there is lots of theft that happens but you don’t need to follow me around while I browse.
Every single time I come here it’s nothing but problems. Being misled by an employee on a price of an instrument. After calling the day before getting one price, to going there getting another price, and then her calling back and giving me yet another price. To finally I had to just sign up for something because I was told they didn’t have any available. Was told today they have books and now they don’t have any available.. They basically couldn’t tell me when or where they could get another. I highly suggest going to another store.
*update*- the owner took care of all of my issues and is addressing the problem. Nice to see people still care!
Selections ok but lacks depth if you follow… staff is okay but not engaging at all.
This place will go the way of the rock shop if they keep treating customers like suspects.
It was not like this at the Stevenson location.

A wonderful show. We feel so fortunate we received tickets to the “Sounds of Christmas” show last Saturday evening. It was amazing from start to finish. We especially enjoyed the orchestra and the Illinois Chorus but all the acts exceeded our expectations. We also thought Jim Stahley added to the evening with his introductions. Of course, we missed Philip Shaw.
Thank you for all your hard work in putting this show together. We look forward to listening again on WGLT on Christmas Day.
Keep doing this event for the community.

Awesome store for all your musical instrument needs
I was genuinely having trouble ordering some things for my marching band. My cards weren’t going through but I got in contact with tech support and he helped me instantly get everything through and payed for. 5 stars customer support thank you.
I have to say I really liked The Music Shoppe! An excellent store.
I finally visited the shop to get a couple boxes of guitar strings. I just didn’t feel like ordering online. I want to see merchandise in-person!
Wonderful, friendly staff in the store. Great instrument selections.
The store was bigger than I thought, a pleasant surprise.
Make yourself feel good, check out an instrument for yourself, live…. talk to staff about what you’re looking for. Sorry, but I love these “real” businesses.
Great variety fast friendly professional service reasonably priced items
Nice place to check out instruments. Staff was friendly.
They’re expensive, the cables and accessories they sell will usually cost nearly twice in price, just go on reverb or guitarcenter and order online instead. Saving customers money. The place is fairly quiet for a music shop and they have great service and employees though, I just wouldn’t suggest buying any accessories or equipment stuff like cables for electric instruments.
Us as parents made a mistake about payments on my son’s sax so they did what there Right was and got it back so we went in and bought one from them paid it full out that same day we bought it they informed the music teacher to take it they were picking it up the following Friday so my son had it removed from him in front of his classmates just before his Christmas concert he was crushed at something he was looking forward in doing
we had receipt for sax which we paid cash for so with them doing this my son no longer wants to do band or music just because the people at the music shop if I could give them negative 5 star I would who would tell a music teacher to take away a sax that was paid for from a child for no reason at all I hope u go out of business?

Decent selection of pianos and guitars, friendly and helpful staff.
I’ve been going to Capital City Music for years, and have never been let down.
Pretty good inventory from starter instruments to grand pianos. Laid back atmosphere.
Slightly expensive, but very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Great music shoppe with a great and large selection of guitars!!!
I am giving two stars because Matt Waldhoff took the time to speak with us in the store. Other than that, I’m not impressed. We were going to consign an expensive Clavinova with them. Upon looking at the contract emailed to us they wanted 40% of the price it sold for, which was satisfactory with us. What was not satisfactory was even thought they only charged $100 to pick-up the clavinova it appeared from the contract they wanted $100 to deliver it to the new owners. Also, they would take no responsibility for any damage that may occur to the unit while it was in their hands. As we had questions regarding that contract we contacted Matt Waldhoff two times via email, asking him to clarify certain aspects of the contract. He never responded back so I assumed they did not want our business. I ended up selling the clavinova on my own and kept the 40% they would otherwise have received. It is inexcusable to not return emails to clarify a contract and I can only assume he took offense that we had questions regarding a contract where they took the profit, but absolutely no responsibility for damage.
I hate doing this because I want to like music stores but if service is gonna be like this, everyone myswell DIY at home and heed this warning. I’ve had a few guitars setup there which is what I’m always needing done, new guitars etc, well I happen to be changing the strings on my Chapman that I had setup there and the low E saddle of the Floyd Rose came loose and the saddle screw fell out and that’s strange as you tighten them down. Well here’s what I discovered. Either dude lost the original saddle screw or he broke it somehow, but sitting in place of the original saddle screw is a too small saddle screw from a different bridge! It had been set in there and the string was tightened until it held the saddle in place! Like magic no screwing required! This guaranteed that as soon as the string tension came loose the saddle and screw would come loose every time NOT like it’s supposed to. Soooo sad service especially since luckily here at home I have many of those saddle screws laying around. It would have been better service to call me/order the correct part than to wait for me to get home figure out that I have the wrong part and have to deal with it myself. Smh.
Took in a brand new bass to get a pickup replaced. Not a scratch on it, never played once. The supposedly simple pickup replacement took a week and a half only for them to give me back my new bass with the back of it covered in scratches and a huge glob of dried glue stuck to the fretboard that won’t come off. They absolutely wrecked my new bass before I even had a chance to play it. Worst possible experience. I am sick to my stomach about how poorly they treated my equipment and would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.

The best music store in Champaign-Urbana! Staff is consistently friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the products and music in general. I’ve been going to The Music Shoppe for about a decade and have yet to have a negative experience. Highly, highly recommend them over chain music stores—the service is absolutely unbeatable.
They also are trans/non-binary-friendly! They noticed that my name had changed when I was checking out and updated it on my account without me even having to ask first.
Today I bought a ukulele and a tuner for my daughter. The Music Shoppe staff were great, I love shopping at stores with great customer service and knowledgeable staff. There was a nice selection of selection of ukuleles, straps and cases. Thank you Music Shoppe staff!
I needed someone with a lot of knowledge and experience to tell me what might be the best option for a tenor sax. Seth, at The Music Shoppe, was fantastic. He answered all my questions and helped us set up everything we needed to pick the sax up the same day! They were super friendly and knowledgeable. He also helped me identify the best way to use and store reeds as well as some reeds to try when looking to play different styles of music. So thankful that they will be there to service the instrument when needed because the rent to own plan includes a service agreement. Highly recommend. Don’t make my mistake and buy an instrument without consulting them first. You don’t want an instrument that can’t be serviced by anyone due to being unable to find parts. It might seem like a cheaper option…but it won’t serve you well when you need a repair…which happens more than you might think.
Last time I came in here I had an employee make fun of me/my instrument because it wasn’t high end (which I knew). Now that I work on my own instruments I know better than to put up with snobby musicians like the one I dealt with here. Three stars because I can’t condemn the entire establishment because of one or two rude employees.
Nice staff, wonderful selection, higher end of the usual price range though.
It’s a good place for renting and buying instruments. They repair and provide loaner instruments.
I went to get my clarinet fixed and they tried to up sell me on getting all my pads fixed and thought I was a child and were annoyed I came in the store when I came to pick it up. I will not be using these services again because of the horrible service I received from the workers.
I went in to have my saxophone serviced. The saxophone I play is pretty nice. I mentioned that I played it in marching band and the woman belittled me for playing a nice instrument in marching band. Sorry I don’t have an unlimited supply of saxophones.
Absolutely the most unprofessional shop around ! Straight garbage
