I love this place. Ms Joe is awesome and Jamie ruckstyles is an amazing violin teacher. she is so patient and caring. would most definitely recommend her if your child is interested in learning the violin or any instrument.
Music is great. This place is great.
Jo the owner here is fantastic and funny, as the teachers are excellent.
Grandson in orchestra needed a special double bass book. They had it, yeah!!! Theg are super friendly!
Me suena..
Good priz on instruments
Almost no instruments in store. Some guitars and some harmonicas. Nice workers due
A very disappointing experience recently – used to rent from them for school and take lessons there many years ago. Recently took in several brass instruments for some cleaning and repairs, and the communication was horrible – they didn’t tell me what was going on with my instruments, I had to call several times to figure out what was going on, and then after almost two months they still hadn’t had any of the work done. I finally got them back yesterday, and they weren’t even satisfactorily cleaned. Whoever does their brass work, they are not up to snuff. Go somewhere else.
If you want to speak with someone condescending, rude, and extremely stuck up, you’re calling the right place. I was calling to get information to rent an instrument for my sons new orchestra program and I was not only insulted by an employee, but the owner herself. If you are not an uppity brat, this isn’t the place for you.
2. Family Piano Co
Address: 114 S Genesee St, Waukegan, IL 60085 , Lake County , Illinois , United States
This place is wonderful. They have everything related to pianos and are immensely knowledgeable. Their selection of pianos is vast and can fit any budget, and are willing to work with you so you can have a piano in your home. They also repair and tune pianos and have a vast array of parts. The owner is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and very helpful.
Great people! My daughter was in her voice lesson so i walked around. They have every thing and every lesson. It is family owned and Brendan gave me time and lots of info about Ukulele’s (which My daughter has had a fun interest in..Christmas gift???) & then he gave me tips about piano lesson apps…fun, but real learning apps! Then Alice talked voice with me about timing for different ages. My daughter, 15 at the time of this experience, had improved a LOT in just the first 2 months (yes i have Momma bias!!). Now having been there for over a year and taken a “piano boot camp” class myself at lunch time this past summer …I highly recommend this business for any musical needs! ! Very friendly, knowledgable and great people!
Excellent service, and amazing selections of beautiful pianos. This establishment (and their Niles location) has it all! I recently had my 130 year old Grand piano tuned and the technician was really good… probably the best and most complete tune I have ever had. In addition to being the best at what they do, these are some of the kindest and genuinely caring people in the business! Thank you Family Pianó!!!
The service is amazing.
I’m Sofia Gorodetskaya director program Fun w music June 10 my students had a concert, Family piano is a wonderful place , great people help a lot and make video for every students. Thank you very much Family Piano Alice,Brandon,Tony and Drew. Some students buy a very good piano w so good price . Thank you very much.
If you want a wide selection of brand new Kawai pianos and a great deal this is NOT the place to go. I repeat…. This is NOT the place to go. Brendan tried to take advantage of me when I was in search of a brand new Kawai GL10 or K500. I had a few pianos I could trade in. One of them being a hand built Charles R Walter in pristine condition. He thought I did not know how much trade in value my hand built in U.S.A Charles R Walter had so tried to low ball me. I talked to other dealers (non local) and they all offered well over double what Brendan offered for my Charles R Walter as trade in credit for a new Kawai piano. I already knew the value of my Charles R Walter and showed Brendan how two other Kawai dealers had offered more than double what he offered so he magically added one grand trade in offer to the Charles R Walter which was still much less than what two other dealers offered.
I wanted to support their local Kawai dealer since they are nearby and but I got a bad feeling when talking with him. He is a very shady salesman. On the day we had scheduled to go buy a brand new KAWAI K500 he messaged me cancelling since he got covid. I emailed him wishing him a speedy recovery and he simply ignored. Extremely unprofessional. I then decided to drive out to Cordogan’s PianoLand in Geneva (much further) and they matched what other dealers had offered for my trade in and gave me a much better deal on a brand new Kawai grand piano. Glad brendan cancelled since I was able to find a much better dealer that provided a more pleasant and transparent experience. If you want a great experience go to Cordogan’s PianoLand.
Terrible lugar!!! No tienen repeto por el tiempo de la gente y son poco profesionales NO LO RECOMIENDO

Address: 33113 US-45, Grayslake, IL 60030 , Lake County , Illinois , United States
Great store and lessons as well. My son has been in drum lessons from over a year. Tony is a great teacher and very patient.
Violin instructor was very knowledgeable. She adjusted to a different style of teaching to better suit my child. The shop is clean and the people who work there are very kind.
An awesome store, great people and Bob did a fantastic job cleaning, conditioning and restringing my 1980 Ovation 12 string guitar. It was a pleasure doing business with them.
sad to have to change my review but after having dealt with this store more it seemed necessary
Why would I come here to buy $21 Elixir Strings when I can get them for $10 on Amazon? Are these even elixirs? I am 2nd guessing because the seal was ripped and the bags are crinkled inside. I feel like I was ripped off here, do not come here for your strings maybe they are knowledgable, but definatley sketchy.
Reviews show that they are open but I cannot seem to find the correct times they are open I tried stopping in on a Saturday around 3 website and google said they were open. But they weren’t too
Store staff are incompetent. Ordered books and instruments accessories for me but instead of holding behind the counter they just put them on the shelf for others to buy. Waited two weeks and when I got there only one of the three things I ordered was available. There is a reason mom-and-pop shops like this are going out of business. They have no customer service. Added to which the staff were rude and had a lack of knowledge that was sad.
Was looking for a specific pair of drumsticks that I needed. I walked in and took a look at the selection they had, and they didn’t have what I needed. I asked a staff member if they could help me out and he helped me figure out what pair I needed. He happened to be the drum instructor. While trying to find the specific pair, my mother who was with me told me that he made her feel uncomfortable because of the way he acted towards her. When they “ordered” it for me and they said it’ll be here in a week.
One week later, I called to see if it had arrived. They said no. I stopped by the next day to see if it arrived and the same instructor said they’ll stop by tomorrow and pick it up for me. (From whatever warehouse they get their stuff from). The next day, guess what? THEY DIDN’T HAVE IT.
Unbelievable service. Waste of time and effort. I ended up going to A-Major Music in Gurnee. Trust me, it is worth the drive and they are MUCH more friendlier and helpful there.
I bought two sets of acoustic guitar strings for around a $20 total and later received a $140 charge from the business. Bob said he would reach out to resolve the issue but has not yet after two weeks.
4. BakYard Studios
Address: Belvidere Rd #2835, Waukegan, IL 60085 , Lake County , Illinois , United States
A few years ago, I was a non-musician looking to start playing acoustic guitar. And now, having experienced other music stores, I have to say this:
1) I do not in any way regret the choice in guitar that the shop led me to. They seemed to know what they were talking about at the time, and I believe now they really truly did.
2) Everyone was super friendly and, even though I was a complete novice know-nothing, I got more than the time of day. They took the time to explain things to me and treated me like they appreciated my business and wanted it again–not something I’ve always come in contact with since (at other music stores).
Simply put, Libertyville Music listened to what I wanted and paired me with the right guitar–and for a good price, too. The more and more I visit music stores, the more and more I fondly remember Libertyville Music.
Very helpful sales guy.
Nice staff, low selection.
Small shop with friendly, expert staff
If they do not have it in stock, they will order it for you. Helpful staff.
Prices are extremely unreasonable not to mention the skinny kid behind the counter called me man so many times I thought I was in a Cheech and Chong movie.
I’ve lived in Libertyville for fifteen years and I have really tried to support them. I teach band locally and have a busy professional performing schedule and would love to have a local business that I and my students could use for guitar and band instrument repair, and to buy supplies and equipment. My experience with them has been the worst every time I’ve been in. Their store stock is woeful. Twice I have left nice guitars with them to be set up. The first time I couldn’t tell that any work had been done, but there were little dents on the back of the neck. The next time (Iknow: why?) they just sat in the store for three weeks while I waited. Then when I picked them up (no work was ever done) there were marks all over the cases, as if they had been tossed around. They are rude, unprofessional and totally disorganized. Students I’ve taught who took lessons there (not at my suggestion) learned nothing. Just another jive guitar store run by morons.
Engineer at RnD studios is professional and knows the ins and outs to make the perfect hit fit to your style. Only studio I go to in Lake County area
My experience here is nothing less than excellency.. this man can listen to a bar.. and listen to your beat and know the bpm.
He is a surge when it comes to mix and master.. very impressed.. he was patient and had the energy going.
My second time going and I’m going back again.
10. PJLA Music Sales & Marketing
Address: 22159 N Pepper Rd, Lake Barrington, IL 60010 , Lake County , Illinois , United States
I bought a trumpet from PJLA Music a PHAETON Trumpet PHT-2040 Black Chrome Onyx plated finish with 24 K Gold Plated finger buttons, top/bottom caps & water keys. I have been playing trumpet for 40 years and I have never had a better horn then this. I got it and starting playing and it played freely and was open and the horn allowed me to do as i wished with it and truly went over the top with its performance.. Thank you for my Horn!
11. Hill Piano
Address: Gurnee, IL 60031 , Lake County , Illinois , United States
I live right down the road and saw their store on my way home from work. Stopped in for some picks and to look around. They have a huge variety of stuff in stock for such a small shop, prices comparable to Amazon/Musicians Friend etc.. and both people there (wish I got the Lady and Gentleman’s name) were incredibly friendly. I will definitely go here the next time I need something. Support people like this!
This is the best music store around! Great prices & customer service is outstanding!!! I will be back again
Very helpful and they carry Idiotbox!
I’m sure this place is great but I wish I didn’t have to make an appointment just to look around. Not a great business strategy in my opinion.
Horrible experience. They don’t care about their customers. First, took 4-5 business days to ship. Then product was defective but they said it was fine. Returned the product and had to fight to get a refund and then they charged me for original shipping which was free in the first place. Never again.
Legitimately told you a price then followed it up with a cheaper price if “you take it home today”.
15. The Music Gallery
Address: 2558 Green Bay Rd, Highland Park, IL 60035 , Lake County , Illinois , United States
Love the place,.get your guitar plekd you won’t regret it.
Great products, great service and, most of all, great people. They are a pleasure to do business with! My order arrived two days early and in perfect condition. I feel that I can purchase from The Music Gallery in future with confidence.
The Music Gallery is awesome so many choices for instruments for all ages they also provide lessons which is amazing
staff is helpful… but had a guitar fixed a couple months ago and had to bring it back for the same issue…. I thought they fixed it, but guess not. we will try again and see…..
Got a few of my guitar frets plekked. Great job. My only complaint is they only offer that with their setup and they dont know how to setup a guitar the correct way. Action way off the fretboard. The trussrod is way off with way too much bow. I rather just pay for the plek and not the setup. I have to spend an hour setting it up after paying $285. Which is very high. I found some of the employees to have egos and arrogant.
Dumped an unsellable $1900 Chicago blues box on me after my gear had been stolen.
I took the amp back the next day and they told me I’d take a $600 loss.
They knew why I brought it back and they stuck me with it. Didn’t even offer an alternate!
Not interested in artist or musicians only in it for the $
Pompous, elite and unprofessional!
Beware, once they got your money you are SOL.
I’m an advanced drummer and had a good experience working with the drum teacher (M.S.) that I met with at the Music Gallery. However, the shop owners were less than professional. The equipment was unsatisfactory to take lessons on. I had to start bringing my own drum thrown. Along with that the bass drum pedals along with the hi hat mechanism were in poor condition. When I confronted the owner he got angry at me for bringing it and said it was my teachers problem. In a community such as Highland Park it’s embarrassing. I would not recommend this location to work with. With all this being said they have ended the relationship with who I feel is one of the best drum teachers in the area. It’s very much their loss! I continue to work with him at another location.
16. Alden’s Piano LLC
Address: 596 Thorndale Rd, Park City, IL 60085 , Lake County , Illinois , United States
Alden’s moved 1927 Mason and Hamlin Piano. They were professional, fast, and courteous. I would highly recommend them for your move.
The movers did an excellent job delivering our piano. They were very careful with the piano and accommodating with placement and our request to move existing table to basement. They were very professional and friendly as well. We would definitely use them again.
My experience with Alden’s could not have been better. I contacted them to move my upright piano. They responded almost immediately with a reasonable quote, and less than 72 hours later, my piano was moved into our condo! Alden’s was on time, very professional, and the move was so smooth. The movers even brought my piano up our condo stairs with amazing skill. I highly recommend Alden’s!
They moved a piano for me. Unfortunately we could not get in the new place yet and the piano had to be delivered to the garage where it still sits.
Guys did a good job were quick and respectful.
The financial aspect of my transaction was flawless. The piano movers we’re polite and friendly, but one of the three man team excused himself as they were in the middle of dismantling the piano, they almost dropped it and in their attempt to save the piano, they knocked into the freshly painted wall and put a hole about the size of a quarter in the wall.
17. Blue Myrtle Records
Address: 6298 Winchester Ct, Gurnee, IL 60031 , Lake County , Illinois , United States
They are friendly, warm and helpful. We have been a customer for over 2 years starting as a rental and moving to own. The staff was kind enough to point out when we reached our limit of equity in our rental. They were extremely patient and kind with my son as he worked through the bow and cello purchase process. Highly recommend.
I bought my first violin here and have had years of experience with this store prior to that life-changing purchase. The Classic Violin family cares so much about instruments and makes sure the customer is satisfied with what they are getting. The rapport has led me to bring back my violin for tune ups and not even risk going anywhere else, even when in college in Massachusetts; I would always wait to get all my violin and bow needs assessed here. It all started with a teacher recommendation and now my younger sister is beginning her musical journey with the best quality violin related items from the get go. Thank you for being awesome and consistent.
I have been a customer at Classic Violins for many years and have always received excellent and friendly service. We have rented instruments from them, I’ve had students purchase instruments here, and I take my violin in regularly for maintenane and repair. I recently brought my violin in for a bridge replacement, and in addition to taking care of that they cleaned my instrument without my even asking. It came back to me sounding great and looking terrific!
just a good place when we couldn’t fit our instrument into our car they helped us
