I highly recommend Michael of Mana Music Studio. He’s talented in mixing and mastering, and he does the MOST to ʻauamo the kuleana that comes with producing and making Hawaiʻi music. From the ways he’s supported my expression as an artist to the ways he’s been open to conversation about ʻōiwi (aboriginal) concerns, Michael has been a pivotal asset to my personal and professional growth. He absolutely goes above and beyond to ensure that each step he takes as a producer is done in a way that is pono (ethically appropriate, necessary, and right). As a kanaka maoli (+mauli Hawaiʻi) artist, I absolutely recommend Mana Music Studio.
Great Experience Growing and Developing as an Artist and Musician at Mana Music Studio. Michael Surprenant is as good as it gets as A Musician, Sound Engineer And Producer. I’m more than extremely pleased with the quality of his work. And Most Of My Work has been done in His Studio. “AfterShock” “The Ocean” And “Takin It Easy” To Name a few. I’ve also worked with other Artists in his Studio as well and I highly recommend if your serious about recording your music. Do it here at Mana Music Studio. Not only will your music grow. You will Grow as an Artist. His prices are fair and reasonable for the quality of work he produces. The proof is in the music ✔️
I’ve had 2 amazing experiences at Mana Music Studios. Michael has been extremely kind and helpful throughout the recording process both times. As a beginner in the studio it can be extremely nerve wracking, however, Mana Music Studios has mastered the art of professionalism, patience, understanding, and above all else, a commitment to the best possible overall sound. Each time I’ve been to the studio it has been an incredibly rewarding learning experience. His competitive prices combined with the years of experience and dedication to the craft make Mana Music Studios a no brainer for pros and new comers alike. 10 stars
7. Big Island Guitars and Music Supply
Address: 1221 Kilauea Ave #10, Hilo, HI 96720 , Leilani Estates , Hawaii , United States
Super friendly, knowledgable staff…..great for lessons, new guitar and amp or just a set of strings……..
Walked in on a whim today and met a great guy selling guitars at awesome prices. I have been to a few shops on the island and was underwhelmed with the service I received. Today I was absolutely blown away by how awesome Spencer was. I didn’t buy anything today because I didn’t plan on being there, but when I do I will only shop here.
The atmosphere here is very friendly and welcoming. Plenty aloha. Spencer, the owner, treats customers like family. He is very knowledgeable regarding musical instruments and provides great service at very affordable prices. All of the music shops in Hilo are awesome, but I would recommend Big Island Guitar and Music Supply first. Mahalo!
Spencer is a very personable individual who is very knowledgeable. The store itself is quaint and stock can be limited but it has pretty much everything that’s needed in general.
Drove an hour , website said open, answering service said open, closed during advertised business hours.
8. Hawaiian ʻUkulele And Guitar
Address: 212 Kamehameha Ave, Hilo, HI 96720 , Leilani Estates , Hawaii , United States
Didn’t buy a guitar but treated myself to an awesome set of polarized bamboo shades here!! The person that checked me out was very nice and helpful! Quality place and stuff!
Uncle Uke showed us some beautiful ukuleles and even gave us a sample of his own talent singing and playing on various ukuleles. He is so knowledgeable about everything in his store. If your looking for the perfect instrument, this is where you need to buy it. We’ve been in lots of ukulele stores in various places in Hawaii and Uncle Uke was by far the most knowledgeable and friendly!
Nice little music store and the owners were very friendly and knowledgeable. Loved their brand of Ukulele. Great clarity and sound and cool logo. I’ll be looking for a baritone Ukulele.
It’s a nice place and they have good quality.
This is a nice store with a knowledgeable and fun owner. Because of the prime location expect to pay retail prices. You can find cheaper prices if you shop around. I bought from him because he engaged my son and made it fun.
Unfortunately I can’t give 5 stars because the owner was unavailable to give lessons. He said he’s too busy and looking for a teacher, so things may change. I ended up taking my kids 2 blocks away to Hilo Ukulele and Guitar. Rick there gave the kids low priced lessons and threw some discounts for merchandise.
I guess if that store wasn’t available, I’d give this place a 5 star review. But competition does exist, which is great, so a solid 4 stars from me.
