Very resourceful place for any instruments at any level, the staff are always helpful and friendly.
Nice bunch of folks and very helpful
Have used Beethoven and Company since college, and have never had a disappointing experience with them. The owners are not only fantastic people, they’re also very, very knowledgeable about repertoire, and hire staff that also know what they’re doing. Definitely a better music store than any of the others I’ve ever bought from.
Great service
A little bit confusing to find but the store has many things. You’ll probabaly find the things you’ll need in this store!
yay sheet music

Address: 2415 N Monroe St Suite #600, Tallahassee, FL 32303 , Leon County , Florida , United States
This place is great. I came in to make a return on something I had bought that I didn’t like and the person at the front was wonderful, helping me out with everything I needed. When I told her I wanted to look around for another amp she walked over and guided me through the available amps to see which one would be best for me, and when I found the one I liked and it was out of stock she ordered it for me and had it sent to my house. I got amazing service here and everyone knows what they’re doing, they’re here to help out and get you what you need in your time.
A good place to buy musical equipment and accessories. Helpful staff and nice atmosphere.
So helpful
Doesn’t carry anything but things you need for a guitar
GC is one of my main sources of guitar related supplies.
Still don’t have my item
Just called to see if Guitar Center was allowing Americans to be free enough to choose. Evidently, they know what’s best for us.
Too bad. I was raised in the land of the free and the brave…..and I won’t live any other way.
Imagine going into a store where the shelves and the walls are almost empty of product. If you don’t know what that looks like, go to this store. I walked in saying I was there to buy headphones and an acoustic guitar. A guy took me to the headphones and couldn’t find what I was looking for. He said he could order stuff, but then just walked away. I made my way alone to the acoustic guitar room. They had maybe 12 guitars, of which half were used. No one came in to help. I just left without comment, and I’m quite sure I will never be back. Not much reason to come back… no products, no help.
Its a hit or miss in there. I came in there one dude was cool he was helping me then he left and this spanish looking kid comes and his vibe and all was wack didn’t really wanna help i asked if he had sound modules and told me they dont send it to there store and blah blah homie why you aint go on the site and ask if i wanted to order? Im not a complainer but he def aint care to make money that day and im a spender when it comes to my music. Def will just research and order my stuff online and i purchased a rocket 8 from them and that day they was cool but they wont get my money in there anymore Im good.

Emiliee Sims is very friendly and knowledgeable and helped me choose a great new piano.
My experience with Jim’s Pianos went beyond my expectations. I was looking for a used baby grand and called them initially just to get a quote on moving a piano. What I ended up with was a private appointment with Jim (owner) that allowed me to play on some dream pianos and ended with the purchase of an affordable baby grand that looks absolutely beautiful in my home. While I still plan on buying that dream Kawai piano of mine, I could not be more pleased with the service I received and happy with my first baby grand purchase. Jim – I hope to see you in the next few years for a trade in towards that dream piano. Thank you for everything!!!
Make sure you ask them to tell you before they move it if it is likely to be tuned or worth the cost. I was told after it was moved that it was over 100 years old and may or may not tune correctly. I would have never had it moved if I would have known this before hand.. I am a locksmith in town, and when I go out to a customers and they want locks changed, I don’t just immediately sell them new ones. I check functionality of the locks and try to save them money. Thats how you get return customers. I will not be a return customer in this case. That being said it isn’t a bad price for the item moved. Regular moving companies would be close to double that price.
Their love for pianos is undeniable; they clearly care deeply about pianos. Their love for customers is less apparent.
When I had a “piano moving emergency” during a recent piano move (by other movers, a mistake on my part) we needed to call Jim’s for some help in removing the piano legs. They were willing to come out on short notice (thanks!) but was charged $200 for driving out, making snotty comments about how the other movers screwed up, and taking off the piano legs. When I called to let them know I felt taken advantage of during a crisis, they were polite but hid behind the “that is our policy” mantra. So, in the end, I felt taken advantage of. Perhaps not reasonably, but that’s the feeling I was left with, and they clearly weren’t concerned about that. I will be calling other piano movers/tuners in the future.
Couldn’t be happier with the assistance in fixing and restoring my mom’s piano.
Cool shop. Wish I would have known it was here earlier! Nice selection. Knowledgeable and friendly folks who run the place. Competitive prices. I will definitely become a regular here 🙂
This place is so cool I loved it here and will continue to come here if you are looking for a place to get physical media this is the place for you they have tapes vynals and cds and so much more. I loved it here and I’ll be coming back
GREAT STORE AND SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE.
Bought some records I had found. Offered me a fair price in just hopes he can get them sold. Pleasant and prompt
Decent selection, for a small shop. The person working stated they have a lot in storage yet so there is good reason to check back. Got some tapes and friends I was with got a good amount of records. They sell online as well.

They provide excellent individual service. They are very thorough and you will not be disappointed. The staff is very knowledgeable and willingly answer any question you have. This is the best music store in Tallahaassee.
The folks at the Tallahassee location were very low pressure and very informative. They grabbed every tenor sax they had, led us to a practice room, and let my son just sit and play the different instruments. They stopped by often to ask if we had questions and give honest feedback when we asked for their opinion. We were there for about 2-1/2 hours and were treated great!
It was excellent I have great day there the people were very pleasant very easy going I just enjoyed myself I have everything and the people are very knowledgeable they know everything about the instruments it’s a One-Stop shop for you, you’re love it.
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE! These people seem great and nice when you first do business with them but they will take your money and then try to strong arm you into renting a much more expensive instrument and on top of paying for a more expensive instrument they will charge you interest at an insane rate! They will tell you that they do not charge interest when you first rent with them and then try to pull a bait and switch to force you into renting a $6,000 instrument with interest on top of that. I wish I had know n how awful this company was BEFORE I rented from them. Now I’m a year of wasted money on a saxophone. Their store looks nice and the staff seems friendly but whoever is running this place or owns it is a cheat. I moved my business to MusicMasters and the staff is much friendlier and their rental program is cheaper and they do not charge you interested or try to cheat you out of your money. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE OR YOU WILL REGRET IT!
I came to this place because it is advertised as being a place for kids to learn music and improve their skills and grow as musicians. Meeting Jared and Curt, they seemed like nice and knowledgeable people. But when it came down to doing business, they’ve shown that they’re not very good businessmen.
Jared double charged my card, and never showed any kind of apologetic attitude towards the situation. They said the double charge wasn’t showing up in their system, and it took a week for them to even FIND the charge. They never believed me when I said my card was overcharged, they had to wait for their accountant to tell them…almost 2 weeks I went without a refund which financially set me back. Curt handled the issue after Jared screwed up, and at the end of it, they really didn’t care about the situation. Before I paid them, they said a contract would need to be signed, which I never signed one, but after the issue, they went on to say that signing the contract was not necessary.
They really aren’t missing out on us canceling further lessons with them, and their attitude towards me and my daughter as we finish this months lessons shows that. If you care about where your money goes, and about people actually caring about your child as a musician and their future, I would not work with these people.
I rented an instrument for my daughter. She lost interest at the end of the school year. I followed their directions to end her rental and submit her instrument. Their worker forgot to pick it up. Since the school was closed for summer, Playground music has continued to charge me for their mistake! Their manager acknowledged their Mistake. It has been weeks and I still have not received a refund for their erroneous charges. They will not respond to my contacts. I would use a different service that is on top of their business more than this one.

Seep’s the jam! Incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist. Great with kids. Fun and funny. His positivity is infectious.
Amazing people. My daughter is loving the camp
Chris is an awesome musician and teacher. My boys are his students for past couple of years and I see lots of growth in their piano/guitar skills. I would highly recommend him if you are looking for music teacher for your kids!!
16. Rearview Vintage and Vinyl
Address: 1748 Thomasville Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32303 , Leon County , Florida , United States
A very cool shop that is new and growing. The owner was great and you can actually browse through the vinyl. Found a dozen albums all priced reasonably. I’ll be back for sure
Carter was super helpful finding me records I might enjoy and even played them for me so I could hear how they sounded! Love that you can look at the records yourself before buying! Can’t wait to come back!
Great selection, great prices and great customer service. Vintage vinyl, t-shirts and other goodies to be had and knowledge to be gained with every visit.
17. Retrofit Records
Address: 439 W Gaines St, Tallahassee, FL 32301 , Leon County , Florida , United States
Absolutely love this place. Sharod is super friendly and very helpful, and is always willing to hunt down whatever absurd record request I have, which means I can still get unusual records while still supporting a local business. The shop has a wonderful atmosphere and good vibes, and the selection is always well curated and eclectic. The records are also very fairly priced, so nobody in town has an excuse to get their records anywhere else!
In today’s retail environment its hard to find a locally owned business that keeps such an amazing inventory as well as has such high standards for customer service. Sharod always makes sure the shop is well stocked not only with new releases, but a huge selection of older titles and used records. They always post new and used things coming into the shop, and Sharod is often quick with a suggestion, and you should usually at least take a listen to his pick.Definitely one of my favorite places in town.
One of my favorite places In Tallahassee. Retrofit records has got a great selection of both the mainstream and the odd one offs. If you can’t find what you’re looking for Sharod is usually more than happy to order it for you. Come for the music stay for the conversation.
Love to visit record stores, especially when I’m in a new city. A little disappointed in the selection but still found something I didn’t have.
While on vacation passing through Tallahassee, I stopped in here. Cool little hole in the wall record store. I didn’t have a whole lot of time to browse but the prices on the used LPs was reasonable. Found a nice pristine Iron Butterfly record for $3, so I was pleased. A lot of reviewers have complained about the mask policy but hey….it’s his store. I don’t have a problem wearing a mask if it’s required. Not a big deal.
Kinda rude. Not a lot in stock. The employee working there was less than helpful. Almost felt like he was annoyed I was in there.
Was super excited to try this record shop after traveling all the way from New Mexico. Let’s just say you feel so uncomfortable after being greeted by someone who doesn’t even want to be there.
Store owner is very rude about the mask policy. When I asked why he was not wearing a mask, he responded with “it’s my store”. First and last time we will stop by here.
The guy sitting at the counter was rude..not helpful and talked to us like we didn’t know how to treat a record. He talked in a way where you felt belittled! We weren’t even there 10 mins and left his vibe was horrible! He didn’t even say Thank you for coming or even a have a good day…. When we left.. If he is the owner he needs customer service skills especially if he is the owner of that store!!!
18. Music Lessons Express
Address: 1344 Cross Creek Cir #3, Tallahassee, FL 32301 , Leon County , Florida , United States
I have been working at MLE for the past year as an instructor and have had a very positive experience. Communication has been great, and my students are wonderful. MLE organizes recitals for the students and has incentive programs like “100 days of practice” which help keep the student motivated and provide goals to work towards.
This is the best place for lessons! The process is easy and they make sure you’re hooked up with right teacher!
They would work a schedule with you. Very nice people working there !
I enjoyed my students while working here but the management was abysmal. I was rarely paid on time, the facilities were a mess, and the communication was little to none. I hope things will improve under new management.

If you are looking for a piano teacher for your child or yourself, look no further. I took weekly lessons from Steve for 3 years. I started with him as an adult intermediate student and made steady progress until life got in the way and I had to take a break. Steve worked with me to improve my technique, but more importantly, he understood that, as a adult student, I needed to be learning to play the kinds of music that gave me pleasure and would keep me practicing. Steve’s instructions for practice are always clear. You know exactly what to do to prepare for the next lesson. And Steve WILL know if you’ve been practicing! He prepares for lessons, too.
In addition to my own lessons, I had the pleasure to hear Steve’s other students, from beginner to virtuoso, play at his twice a year recitals. When I say virtuoso I am not exaggerating. At least one of his students, who sadly for us has now graduated high school and moved on to college, and who started taking lessons from Steve as a child, is an beautiful pianist. If I tell you that he played Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue from start to finish without music, that may tell you what you need to know about this young man’s talents and Steve’s teaching abilities. The other students displayed the range of abilities that you would expect, but what they all seemed to share was an enjoyment in what they were learning.
As I said at the start, if you are looking for a piano teacher to guide your child from beginner to who knows where, or for an adult of any age (did I mention I’m 71?), Steve Sternberg is #1 in my book.
I am not musically trained and never played an instrument. A total beginner. I was 68 years old when started playing the harmonica and watched YouTube videos to learn how to play. It was fun, but I was not really moving forward. Steve was recommended to me and his instruction has made the difference. I now play what is called straight harp songs (which are popular and folk songs) and lots of blues songs, my real interest. I learned them within about six months with Steve’s guidance. Steve uniquely matches his lessons to your needs and abilities. He is precise, yet very funny and easy to work with. The hour lessons fly by. My top recommendation.
I have been taking piano lessons with Steve Sternberg for almost 2 years now and it has been a great experience! Not only has my playing ability improved dramatically, I have also been able to learn so much about music theory. I started as a college student with no prior music experience and I am so happy with the progress I have made!
