They do fantastic work. Totally rebuild our 100 year old pipe organ using the original pipes and their sliding chest operating system along with a new console. Everything was first rate. We couldn’t be happier
The finest world class pipe organ.
I tried contacting this company several times within the last year. I never received any calls back. Considering that I called EVERY contact during business hours and had left messages, I am completely appaled by this type of service.
Awful communication. I would not recommend anyone attempt to contact this company for anything.

It was an absolute pleasure to have Fretless Strings play at our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. The music was great – I am still receiving compliments from my guests. Be sure to check out their wide selection of music on their website. It was a pleasure working with Stephanie. Stephanie was great at communicating with me especially during the ever changing climate of planning a wedding during Covid. Truly a talented group of women!
Working with Fretless Music was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding! I am not a sentimental or overly romantic person, but – even for me – words can’t describe how special it was to have live string music walking down the aisle. Fretless played for our ceremony and cocktail hour and just about every guest complimented how wonderful their music was. It really established the atmosphere. We had Fretless play mostly contemporary music with a sprinkling of classical, and everything they played was delightful. They also adjusted the pace of my processional to the appropriate speed for the moment (Sweet Child ‘O Mine – which is so beautiful on strings). They did a fantastic job with everything and I can’t imagine my wedding any other way. For any bride wondering if you should splurge on a string ensemble – my recommendation would be yes, absolutely yes – and I can’t recommend Fretless Music enough. Even my husband (who was quite frugal during the wedding planning process) said this was the best money we spent on our wedding.
Stephanie was so terrific to work with every step of the way. She is quick to respond, proactive and so full of warmth. I think they perform just about every weekend and you would never know it working with Stephanie, because she was so attentive our needs and on top of check-ins and timelines. It felt like we were their only client. They have a wide breadth of music in their repertoire and can accommodate any taste and setting. I truly can’t recommend them enough!!
Fretless has a wonderful repertoire and was easy to work with. We hired the trio for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour and received tons of compliments on the music. It was one of my favorite parts of our wedding!

Two weeks before my daughter had an important audition, the bridge of her violin started to fail. Kagan and Gaines came to the rescue and promptly replaced the bridge and adjusted the instrument for her. We are so grateful for the excellent service that K & G provided. Thank you for helping my daughter have a successful audition!
I have been going to Kagan and Gaines for over ten years. They are always ready to help and even ready to “pull strings” to make things happen. They gave me a discount on a new pair of cello strings. They even replaced the strings there and then instead of a few days later.
Went there and purchased a trumpet for my son. Jessie was a great help. Highly recommended.
Nice and helpful staff, but they require you to give them your phone number to make a purchase. No thanks. Took my business elsewhere.
I gave this place a bad review after dealing with a younger employee But when the manager was alerted to the situation (A few days later) it was dealt with fairly. Kagan and Gains has a long time reputation in their neighborhood of being the first choice for musical lessons of any instrument and Fair pricing on instruments and accessories. It may not be the best place to shop for a new guitar But they can handle all your needs afterwords. I recommend them for all your strings, Guitar cases, Band instruments, ect. You will find all of them are of good quality and pricing.
45 dollars for an on the spot (30 min) electric guitar restring, minus the price for the strings, is a little steep, folks. I appreciate the good work, but I can get the same treatment for a lot less at A Sound Education off Ogden.
I hate to agree with the user below who complained of a dishonest experience, but we are going through the same. I’ve read all of the other 5 star reviews and notice a pattern: it seems that for violin and stringed instruments, this is a great place. For renting brass/woodwind instruments via their monopoly with the school districts, they are subpar and dishonest. We should have just purchase a used instrument which would have resulted in us obtaining a superior instrument at, I am not exaggerating, 1/4 the total cost. We just had to call them to stop processing our credit card when we noticed we had been paying an abnormally long time on my daughter’s VERY USED, VERY DENTED saxophone (4 years!). We were “reassured” that, coincidentally, they were just going to call us as well as our payments happened to be completed. Yet they have no records of all the payments that we made, and are asking us to provide payment records going back to 2017 to “prove” how much we have paid in total. Luckily for us, we can easily provide them as they have all been made on the same credit card for years. We are also disputing the amount owed as our daughter’s original “nicer” model saxophone broke, was taken in for repairs, and she was given a loaner, student-model, older and dented sax. Her other one was never repaired and instead she’s just had this one forever. We were told at the time it would be “worked out.” Now they want us to pay the same amount as they were going to charge for the initial instrument to keep this replacement instrument permanently, as they also claim to have NO record that any switch was ever made or that the original saxophone was ever brought in for repairs. Typically, I endeavor to support neighborhood shops, but not when their record keeping is straight out of Mayberry. This is taking a lot of our time and energy to sort out, and we’ve ultimately laid out over $2300 to own an instrument that I have found at multiple music stores online for around $600 and under. We understand that renting the own is typically more expensive, but this feels like being swindled in every way. Extremely disappointed. My husband has been playing music for over 40 years – he also used to play saxophone – and his mother is a professional classical musician. He is used to dealing with all sorts of music shops and has never had an experience like this one.

Brought my #1 in to be looked at by a professional, which in the ten years of owning the ’78 Les Paul Custom has never been done before. I just returned the guitar to being 100% original parts (T-Top Pickups) so the timing was right. Frets were in awful shape as well.
Here’s the breakdown: Fret crowning and polishing, fret-board polishing, full set-up, and a polishing of the nitrocellulose finish.
Outstanding work with the frets and set-up, the low action and 10 gauge strings made the guitar sound like a Gibson again! The ebony wood fret-board has never felt so playable.
A professional job done by a real professional.
Ordered online. Guitar arrived quickly. Great customer communication.
what he lacks in person to person customer service skills, he makes up for with quality work. this man can bring dead guitars back to life. he can fix ANY stringed instrument.
prices reasonable to high, but worth it.
friendly and cute dog too!
I paid $65 to have a brand new Squire Telecaster set up. This is a fair price and he did a great job. It was ready when he said it would be.
This was just a tragic experience… The gentleman was very nice and said my guitar would be ready by Saturday/Sunday. I said I’d love it if it were ready on Saturday because I was singing kids songs in the morning Sunday. I’m sure it WAS ready Saturday, but unfortunately the woman responsible for calling me did not do so correctly, as I received no message or missed calls. When I checked in on Wednesday, the woman over the phone said that she did call me and that I didn’t check my messages. I informed her that I did check, but there was no message. Rather than apologizing or taking responsibility for misdialing or simply forgetting, she responded annoyed, “check again, because I did call and you do have a message.” I hung up and went ahead to check all of my missed calls and messages… Nothing. When I arrived shortly after in the store, there was no mention of it and no attempt at responsibility.
My kids enjoyed the friendly dog and my guitar is fixed by the nice gentlemen. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back to this store because the woman was unnecessarily condescending and stubborn.
this guy is a crook , he stole my guitar.
go there at your own risk , you have been warned.
The man that runs this store is incredibly rude. I went in there on the phone with my fiance because I was planning on getting her a guitar possibly and I enjoy helping local businesses and he came up to me saying “oh you just gonna finish your call in here?” and I replied with “well I’m on the phone and looking at guitars and thinking about maybe getting one” and he then said how would I like it if he came in my HOME and finished a call and I honestly was so taken aback by how absolutely rude and disrespectful he was being to me as someone who literally just said I was looking into buying a guitar and wasn’t being in any way loud or disruptive on my phone. I came back during one of my breaks because I work across the street from him and I said how I didn’t appreciate how rude he was being to me over being on the phone and he went on a whole tirade about how it was disrespectful to be on the phone in his store…not even being loud on the phone in his store…he said it was disrespectful to just be ON THE PHONE in his store. I told him how ridiculous that was that no other store on this street cares about you being on the phone some even let you bring your dog into the store. He had no signs posted that said anything about not being on your phone in the store and was BEYOND rude and I will never give him any business again and encourage everyone who reads this to not give him business either.
I went to this to buy an e string. and I had an Ernie Ball string that did not need. so I asked guy if I could trade him my Ernie Ball number 26 string. for his Dean Markley number 11 String he told me no those string’s don’t break.
If he is going to string your guitar with cheap strings just to get you to come back I won’t come back. I don’t care how good you fix guitar’s ……..
This is a terrific store with a knowledgeable owner. Located in a less obvious place than in the past—now on Desplaines just south of Madison—but definitely worth seeking out and supporting.
Great store with friendly owner!
Good spot for used and new records, some less common items and singles available. Pricing appears to be based via Amazon or discogs
This is a dedicated Records store, the main focus is vinyl. There are CDs and DVDs too but that does not seem to be the focus. Be ready to dig, there vinyls are more setup for storage than for sale. I have been to this place a few times and found some Jem’s, but each time spent an hour browsing.
Small space w decent selection of new and used at fair prices including cds and cassette tapes. Definitely worth a visit if u have time to dig
The old school is easy to access if your on foot or bicycle, motorist tend to pass by since location is at a busy intersection. Record store does have a good selection of recordings at a reasonable price.
⛔️WARNING ⛔️Steer clear..The guy who runs the place is not well. Stuff all over the place broken 45s on the floor. It smells bad in there . Also he can’t find anything in his own store.. ⛔️WARNING ⛔️
Okay selections but not a friendly experience. I spoke when entering but wasn’t greeted back. Wasn’t asked if I needed help or if I was looking for a certain record. Also I stood in line waiting to be acknowledged but the cashier was carrying a conversation with a person that had already made a purchase didn’t acknowledge me at all so I sat down my records and left. Glad to see others had a better experience
We drove 30 miles for 43.00 bucks.
Awful

Brad was polite and knowledgeable. A great experience.
We Buy Records made the experience of getting rid of many of my albums very easy and quick. The time to go through the albums and decide what they wanted and the amount offered was more than reasonable. The experience was excellent.
Louis Hamer, Naperville, Illinois
Brian is the best. Very honest and very generous
Process is very easy. Thank you
Just a word of caution. If you are heading out there to buy LPs, don’t go yet! The store front is not yet open.
Good place with records ,but open only 1 day in week and newest music
Would never do business with them again. The records where in my trunk he came outside to check them over. He did it so quickly took don’t know how many n handed me $20. Then rushed away before I could even see what he took.
Came to my house and cheated me a handicaped senior took over 60 albums and 45s for 120 bucks less than 2 dollars album your selling same albums for 30 to 40 dollars each . If you need to cheat people to make money not good
Checked up local record stores. Found this one one closest too me. I’m not from the area so I Googled it. Said they were open. I drive 20 minutes out of the way. I get here and they’re closed.

WHHHAAA!! I love this place and it is def not small..Sally Beauty Supply is small this place is like 5 of those put together space wise!! They do have everything and I will continue to make the journey there to get my hair stuff. Never smelled bad to me and I def do not work there!
Dont really know what to say about Urban Beautique all i know is that everyone i know come here to get there hair for whatever style they feeling, they have a great selection of different types and colors and they also have every product you could possibly think of for your hair care needs also jewelry, T shirt’s, hats, and other things.
Customers service was excellent but there wasn’t a Good selection of grey wigs or hair for older Women. Had to go to Kay’s in Oak Park
Lol big big store but if u looking for a half a wig a cheap 10$ one they got them behind a glass case. An you gotta stand for ever to get some service to even see, touch , or make you mind up on one gezzz if a person a chair if ppl gotta wait that long.
I’m never spending my money there again. I hate feeling uncomfortable while shopping. I was looking for a good hair conditioner so I was reading different products. I guess they had suspicions because I was in one aisle for a while so the cashier came from behind the counter kept walking pass the aisle I was in then when I decided on a product he walked back to the register. I work hard for my money so to feel like I’m being watched or judged as suspicious is uncomfortable. I paid for my items but I won’t b returning.

Address: 118 Forest Ave, River Forest, IL 60305 , Maywood , Illinois , United States
I don’t eat there anymore. If I do go, I just get their ice cream or zero sugar coke.
Asked did they have a strawberry cream cheese pie before I purchased. Cashier checked to be certain, after I paid I was told a 10min wait which I didn’t have the time to wait. I asked cashier I thought you just checked he replied he made a mistake . I asked for refund the manager gave me a hard time saying I could substitute for apple because they don’t give refunds. It took me saying I would call corporate to get my money back. She put it back on my card instead of just giving it to me and I had to wait 7 days for it.
Fast service.
Too fast. I couldn’t read the
Receipt. Told by window # 2
