A great little store! Mike and Penny are terrific and make fantastic custom jewelry. They did a great job of remaking my wife’s wedding rings and I’ve also gotten a number of other beautiful things there.
Surprisingly tasty and reasonable hidden gem in the foothills of Mt. Shasta. We had the chopped salad which was fresh and flavorful, the Mac and cheese which was rich and delicious, and when they say their chicken sandwich is the best clucking one around, believe them. It was fantastic and would hold it’s own anywhere in America.
I agree with all the postings. Sweet little gem of a Christmas store. They have wonderful, unique candles and gifts. The owner designs and makes beautiful jewelry. It really is a must see. And be certain to try the diner across the street. You’ll be happy you made the drive.
Gorgeous Halloween Christmas Tree, a first for me

We are lucky to have this guy in town. He really knows his stuff. Repaired a vintage sampler with new tact switches and cleaned it up nice, really went above and beyond on that project. He also fixed up my guitar with all new internals, new hardware, and polished up to look brand again, as well as setting up the action very nicely. He builds amps. He will make you instrument cables if you need a custom length. I’m very thankful I didn’t have to send my equipment out of town for repairs.
Great selection of everything a musician needs.
I recently dropped my favorite vintage wah and in doing so, the original potentiometer broke. Needless to say, I was bummed! Then I took it into Brad and asked him if he could fix it. He said yes, and boy did he fix it! His tech work was timely and professional, and his willingness to make sure that I was happy with the work was absolutely apparent. If you are a musician in Siskiyou county and need some work done on your gear, I highly recommend checking out Brad at Sherlock Music.

Very friendly folks, reasonable prices, and a good assortment of music
Once my secret happy place. Was once owned by some good people that always made me a good deal on music. Sometimes even throwing in vinyls and tapes for free. Now with new ownership, all that is gone. Now you choose something you like and he spends the next 15 min searching the net for prices it’s going for online. The prices on discogs that’s he takes notice to is the price for a mint vinyl or cassette, but not much here is mint. No good deals here anymore. Sad times. Don’t see it staying open long.
4. Meat Market
Address: 231 Main St, McCloud, CA 96057 , McCloud , California , United States
Had dinner here twice on a recent trip to McCloud with my wife. The food was perfect. Moist pork chops, succulent shrimp scampi, spectacular salmon and an amazing ribeye. Don’t skip the tavern fries – melty Gouda, smoky bacon and garlic. Service was impeccable. On our first visit the chef came over and chatted with us and then brought us a sample of the next day’s special!
I’ve been living in McCloud almost whole year. And I love it up here. On tonight’s Meat Market & Tavern (inside the McCloud River Mercantile Hotel on Main Street) menu (one of my favorites) special was the Cajun Chicken Fettuccini… it was the best one I had ever ate. I love living in this historic lumber town. I highly recommend this place for anyone who loves food for all ages. Outstanding service.
Food is delicious
Actually better than expected. Was going to go to the pub down the way but they didn’t open until 4?!? This place doesn’t seem very or alcohol so make sure you have a couple of pops outside before you come in. Some people were wearing masks when they got up and others with probably more yesterdays than tomorrow’s were looking at you funny if you had a mask on. SMH. In any event, I had the cheeseburger and fries with an ice cold water after a long day on the water. Burger was a little undercooked but tasty nonetheless. May need to go back here…
Husbands New York steak was not tender. Potatoes were still very hard. Couldn’t eat them
Food is really good, portions a little small. Expensive.
Food didn’t seem that fresh
This place charged my credit card $315.00 when my total charges should have been $135.00 including tip.
We ordered beer $7.90, Burger $19.00, chicken sandwich $19.00 Stroganoff $31.00 and Short rib $31.00. Total charge should have been $135.00 including tax and tip.
However this place charged my credit card $315.00 (with a tip $200.24).
I disputed but unsuccessful because I do not have the receipt. Lesson learned here.
So disappointed with this place.
For Meat Market Grill customers, make sure to keep your receipt so this won’t happen again.
They are no longer in business, we were excited about going here but found they had to shut their doors unfortunately. 2/14/2020
5. McCloud Hotel
Address: 408 Main St, McCloud, CA 96057 , McCloud , California , United States
From New Zealand visiting a local forestry site below mount Shasta.
Throughly enjoyed the experience.
Fantastic staff, the room reminds me of when I was very young and stayed at my grandparents, squeaky floorboards, big bed, loved it and the food was delicous. What resonated the most with me was the atmosphere and history of the place and other guests, so friendly and sharing.
I definitely reccommend it and would come back again.
Thank you.
beautiful historic hotel with an amazing restaurant. Sage has fantastic food and i aoways appreciate a restaurant that offers lots of G/F choices including bread served at the table. such a nuce touch!
Definitely a 5 Star destination! Excellent food, amazing wines, exquisite service, and an experience of days of old. Built over a century ago, Go and enjoy! You will want to stay again and again!
Beautiful Historic Hotel near Mt Shasta, California.
We lovy the cozy atmosphere! It’s as if you have gone back in time to simpler days!
Preeeety great.
I’m so disappointed. I thought I would have a nice weekend with my husband. We were upcharged, because of a wedding. But insult was added to injury. Breakfast was supposed to be included with our overcharged room. But, with the wedding, they had run out of lost things. Breakfast was supposed to come with a fruit parfait. They had run out. Our table asked if we could sub coffee cake for the fruit parfait. Our waitress agreed. Then, our waitress billed us for the coffee cake. When our table asked us about the mistake, our waitress told us “it is what it is. I don’t make the rules.” We were so disappointed. Her meanness spoiled our whole weekend.
Nothing available
My husband and I recently rented a room at the McCloud Hotel as we were guests at a Wedding being held on-premises. I was appalled at the lack of cleanliness to our room. The bathroom floor had little black curly hairs on the floor – from what I could only imagine came from the guests prior to us. We also saw and killed many little bugs in our room and the bride’s son was stung multiple times from a wasp nest not previously taken care of; pest control was obviously not a high priority (I had to completely ignore the fact that bed bugs may be a concern as we were there for a friend’s wedding and didn’t want to make a big deal out of things (everything brought back is in quarantine just to be safe)) . The bed had a huge dip in the middle and one of the tops to the posts fell off when my husband sat on the bed. Food was good but service was not. We had to ask numerous times to order and asked several more times to get utensils and napkins. Grounds were beautiful. Perfect for an outdoor wedding. However, during the reception my husband had a beer mug ripped from his hands (that he paid for at their bar) because he was standing out on the deck which apparently was against the rules??? Who can’t have alcohol on an outdoor deck at 10pm? Nonetheless, there are definitely more tactful ways to approach that situation than ripping anything from a guests hands regardless of what it is. To top it off; apparently is was the owner of the hotel! Overall we had a very poor experience. To have this type of service and experience and pay almost $400 for a 2-night stay – no thank you! Not worth the money and won’t be back.
6. Axe & Rose Public House
Address: 424 Main St, McCloud, CA 96057 , McCloud , California , United States
Awesome food. Great service. Had the wasabi sprouts, spicy wings, mushroom flat bread and Zucchini strips. All very very good.
Great atmosphere and very good food!
After leaving another restaurant in McCloud because no one acknowledged our presence, we aimlessly drove around looking for another food option. We looked at the menu here, then decided to leave because they had few vegetarian options. Yvonne saw us outside, greeted us, and asked us if we had any questions. When I told her I couldn’t eat there because I’m a vegetarian, she said the chef would be happy to accommodate me. The food was amazing, the staff is even better. I love this place and will definitely be back.
Food was ok. I got there at 4pm, well before dinner hour. And it took almost an HOUR to get my food.
This place is hit and miss. Sometimes food and service are good. Other times food misses the mark and the staff very unfriendly. Recently as the only customers we were ignored for 5 minutes until a server tossed down the silverware and napkin without so much as a hello. Felt very unwelcome so we walked out. UPDATE Oct 2023, subsequent visits have been a positive experience! We all have bad days.
A place like the Axe & Rose was a long time coming to McCloud. Go for ample food and its well stocked bar, but also go for checking out a great interior space that represents the local vibe. Once known as a logging community, the local architecture is distinct representing its historic company town days and Arts and Crafts meets Bavarian Alps details. Painted beams and log style abound inside the Axe and Rose. Outdoor space during the frequently great weather is available, too.
Honestly, McCloud is my best kept secret, but it’s not for everybody. If you’re keen to tap out on staying virtually connected and want to truly experience California realness, think about visiting, have a few brews and great food, then hang out at the McCloud River.
Got there and there was only 1 large party ahead of us, we had 2 in our party, and another small party of 2. We were seated right away, but soon noticed that all of the wait staff, save one waitress, were more interested in standing behind the bar area and chatting, than waiting on their customers. We ordered an appetizer, grilled zucchini, as soon as we sat down, and about 10 minutes later ordered our entrees. We didn’t get the zucchini until 40 minutes after we had ordered it, and after waiting over an hour for our entrees that never came, we finally just put some money on the table and walked out. Terrible customer service, we won’t be back.
The atmosphere was nice. We thought it strange that the wait staff were wearing Hoodies (a little too casual for a nice sit-down dining place, but hey, it was winter). No points deducted for that though. We ordered the fish and chips (came recommended by the hostess), linguini, and the harvest salad. The fish and fries were so stale and overcooked that we couldn’t eat them. We’ve never had fish that dry. We did mention it to the waiter, but we don’t think it went any farther than him. When we left,, he acted like everything was great (very nice guy btw). The linguini and veggies were also overcooked, but had good flavor, and we were able to eat all of it. We’re big salad lovers, and sad to say that the harvest salad was also something we couldn’t finish, which is saying a lot because my husband can usually finish anything! Two points off for the food, and another point off because when we asked for water, it was served in a plastic, throw away cups. Too wastful in our opinion. We really wanted to like this place, as it’s only one of two dinner restaurants in downtown McCloud, but we probably won’t be going back. We hope it was just an off night and that this is not their norm, but it was our experience.
Great building but what lousy food. So disappointing.

Because I love that store the people are friendly and very helpful and they have very good products that I want to buy
I was blown away by how amazing the prices were for a mic stand. I had been searching everywhere and not wanting to go through amazon and for $25 what I got, i could resell for $60-$100 on amazon. The stabd us sturdy, heavy duty, and metal pretty much all the way.
I couldnt have found a better deal ANYWHERE.
Hey they didnt allow me to leave a tip. But i will not be thwarted that easily… So. Here is a review!
Wonderful people and a wonderfull place. They carried the product I needed and it didnt even cost me an arm or a leg.
I saved buy buying local and enjoyed, it’s true. So act now you dont delay! No reason to not do!
A+ seller
Friendly and quick service to string my guitar.
Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff who actually care about your experience. Definitely the go-to place for guitars, accessories, and other instruments.
Great place for all around music needs great knowledgeable staff
Classical guitar strings are not sold here.
Sheet music: nearly all piano method books.
Its nice when I call in that I already don’t want to come in the man I talked sounded very low energy and just not really caring about what I needed or what I was even saying IDC if your so busy which you weren’t that you don’t want to take calls but I’m not coming in to have you or anybody else be rude and not really care about what I’m their for, so eventually I just say it’s ok I can probably find something then leave feeling disappointed. Seemed like a good reviewed guitar store but not when you barely want to say anything but uhhhhh we might have it butttt. Not the bad review type of person but I was irritated that it seems every guitar store was being not happy at all and rude. I have to drive far to get to Redding just to be directed to a hardware store which isn’t a bad idea just the lack of helpfulness and compassion for what your doing
