You never know what all these guys do till you ask..
Very good prices and affordable studio time
Friendly!
Friendly & knowledgeable
A lot of nice instruments and supplies there. Looks like a green screen to shoot videos too. Had to order what I needed online though
People that run the place, running 2 different businesses in one office(hustling). Very little parking….
Folks here are nice enough but they don’t have consistent business hours. Also Instrument repair is not efficient and they make it much harder than it should be.
Dropped off one wedding tape to get converted and was told it’ll be done by Monday for my parents anniversary since last week. There wasn’t any updates it calls to us and we had to keep continuously calling each day and the one or two guys supposedly were out of town and then when he got back was out and never showed up back to the office to take care of it with no edits. Was told too the day to drop it off next door to give to them since the worker was wherever. It’s now Wednesday and still wasn’t even touched or looked at. The lady who worked there everyday was SUPER nice but won’t be doing services with them again.
6. T Shepard’s Discount Music
Address: 110 NW Cleveland Ave, Huntsville, AL 35801 , Meridianville , Alabama , United States
Nicest guys working there great prices on awesome rare gear. If I can help it I’ll be doing all my business through them now. I wound up there because the guitar tech at the Fret Shop was too snobby to work on my guitar but Mr. Shepard opened the case eyed it over and gave me a good price for the work in less than a minute. Lots of awesome guitars that he has made himself as well. I can’t speak highly enough about this place.
Good selection of used gear, and Tommy is top notch at building and repairing guitars.
Best customer service of any music shop in hsv. One on one and the owners experienced unlike every other shop.
Great place for all you musical needs
Just not the place to buy music
T Shepard’s is a great shop, and Tom is a terrific, skilled, and knowledgeable guy.
The straps and strings and accouterments are top-notch.
And the selection of guitars for sale is interesting, diverse, and attractive.
Don’t be in a hurry, though, if you drop your guitar off for repairs.
And don’t expect a phone call or email to let you know about delays well past the implied pick-up date.
This is Mayberry, Andy.
Not Mount Pilot.
Mr Shepard doesn’t seem to understand how to correctly repair tuning stability issues.
He may want to consider the fact that a new customer doesn’t always mean new player. He insulted me when I told him ‘guitar will not stay in tune’ I’d like it repaired’ His response was “you mean it won’t stay in tune or you can’t get it in tune?” Wow.
Sir, I’ve been playing for 38 years. Im a seasoned player. I love music. And I would have loved to find a small shop to do business with instead of that behemoth Guitar Center. Speaking of GC, I only turned to them because this same Mr Shepard was rude to me on the phone last December when I was in the market for a new rig…I mean I’ve bought a Marshall amp, a full complement of pedals, And an American Standard Strat, a Gibson Les Paul. So maybe you should reconsider to whom you are rude in the future. I gave you a chance to earn my business and you blew it. Since last December, I’ve spent over $3000 at GC,and guys like you whine about GC all the time yet you don’t seem to understand why your own business is stuck off in the boondocks, or you constantly have to move around.
7. McDonald’s
Address: 11895 Highway 231-431 North, Meridianville, AL 35759 , Meridianville , Alabama , United States
I love their egg McMuffin. And the staff is friendly and guick
It’s McDonald’s. I just get coffee in the mornings.
I love the fries! The only place you can get a good meal for around $5
Drive thru always slow
Visited here at the crack of dawn to pick up some breakfast sandwiches for my family before work, was thoroughly impressed with how fast they got the food out. It was about a 20 minute drive back home and the food was still hot. If you keep in mind that this is still a fast food establishment, it’ll be a perfect stop for a quick breakfast.
Order wrong always wrong I always ask for no onions and three out of five times there is always onions on my food and I either have to go back to McDonald’s and get my order or not eat that night so it’s just ridiculous
Cold food again.
Cold food
8. Hallman’s Music
Address: 1920 Sparkman Dr NW #2, Huntsville, AL 35816 , Meridianville , Alabama , United States
The service is excellent! The staff saved my son in a bind. Highly recommend!
Sweetest people. I actually went to a place in Decatur and they did not have what I needed called them and they said they had it but I was not going to make it before close. They told me to come on they would wait and still provided great customer service. Thank you so much!!! Will be back and recommend them to everyone!!!
Extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We purchased a saxophone from them. We’ve always been very helpful and they really do know their stuff
I appreciate that the owner works with a college student’s budget when tuning instruments.
By far the worst experience of my life. My daughter joined Beginners Band at her school to play the flute. Hallman’s was suggested by the band instructor so we went there for her flute. Upon arrival they quoted me a $1200 flute and when I said we would not be purchasing a new flute because she was not 100% sure if this was her passion I was told about the lease to own program. What a mistake? I paid first and last month payments and returned the instrument within 2 weeks and was advised that my request for my last month payment would be considered a refund. This company is a scam and wants you to pay for a service that is not rendered. I was even told that the instrument had to be sent off for cleaning and inspection and that costs them money however this is something that they do in-house. When the report comes back is when Mr. Hallman will determine if I am entitled to a refund!
I HATE this place. They are very rude. When I came in they asked me things like “have you ever dropped your flute” in a very rude tone. I was tempted to just walk out of there and go to Southeastern. All they did was fix a leak and charged me about 60 dollars. When I picked up my flute they played it without my permission and basically told me I had a bad flute. The next time I needed a repair I took my flute to Southeastern and they did a wonderful job. Yes, both stores are a little over priced but Southeastern does a flawless job and is very polite.
Owner is very crass……that’s fine, we all have are personalities……BUT maintenance insurance is supposedly included in the (higher than anyone else’s) monthly rental fees and when I took the sax in for maintenance they wanted to charge my just over $200 for things that were supposedly covered. Not cool.
9. Harmony Sound
Address: 820 Wellman Ave NE, Huntsville, AL 35801 , Meridianville , Alabama , United States
Super friendly service. I dropped my guitar off for a set up. He had it done quickly and now it plays better than it ever has.
This is one of the better music shops in the area! No pushy salesmen looking for commission checks! They have a large selection of instruments and they’re competitively priced for a mom and pops chain!
Great store, nice folks.
Good selection of stringed equipment and some amp and pa equipment. Accessories (like strings) are very pricey.
They were extremely helpful with me and my daughter and spent plenty of time helping us figure out what we wanted.
Bonito lugar bien amable el personal!!! Me encanto bendiciones
I wanted to buy a keyboard but no one had time to help. I rated 3 because I have had successful business there before just not last time.
Service staff was great, very friendly, very professional, very knowledgeable. The selection of electric/acoustic guitars is amazing, though lacking in choices for bass, ukulele, banjo, and certain items for drums. Same goes for amplifiers, lots for guitar, hardly any for bass. The recording studios get me every time. Love how well they’re set up and acoustically sealed. I’ll definitely be back.
Super helpful and friendly staff (when you can get someone to help you) and they were knowledgable. Disappointed they didn’t have want I ultimately wanted but they tried and I appreciate their effort.
Y’all need to hire more people. It takes 20-30 min just to get help with an employee.
Same old guitars, different city
Hardly ever anyone back in percussion. Bass selection is extremely small, and not all personnel are as knowledgeable as you would expect from a music store, ie I took one of my guitars there for a possible trade, wouldn’t take it because they claimed the neck was warped, had it looked at by three other technicians in other stores and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.
15. The Cigar Box Guitar Store
Address: 2211 Seminole Dr SW #106, Huntsville, AL 35805 , Meridianville , Alabama , United States
Stop by for free cigar box guitar lessons every Saturday at noon and shop for your own Mad Sci Innovations cigar bix guitar!
One of a kind store. Huntsville it truly lucky to have it. Staff is very welcoming. They want you to come in and pick up a guitar and play.
This place was awesome! I never knew that cigar box guitars existed and they are so cool. The owner Luthier was so nice and friendly and took the time to teach us how to play.
We are definitely going back to visit and buy a cigar box guitar!
16. The Fret Shop
Address: 309 Jordan Ln NW, Huntsville, AL 35805 , Meridianville , Alabama , United States
Great place, with a friendly, knowledgeable staff, and a good selection of instruments.
Got a Les Paul that needed the bridge pickup ring replaced. They took care of me in less that 4 hours. Change the pickup ring, new strings and good to go for only less than $35. Guy do good work and reasonable prices, not my first time there.
A Huntsville treasure!
This place don’t let you rock the hell out like I do so I feel unwelcome and very bored! Just let people rock out
So if you are reading these I bet you see the polarity of the reviews. People seem to love it or hate it. The difference is who you deal with there. I’ve always seen 3 guys and one young lady. There is a big guy with a goatee who isn’t friendly at all and you can tell he gets annoyed if you play with an instrument. Then there is a pretty generic looking guy that does most of the repair work. He is the embodiment of the a*hole guitar shop/ comic book store type guy. You’re beneath him and he makes sure you know it. If you can get past these two the young lady is very nice, and I’ve seen her make women more comfortable in what is usually a very male atmosphere. She also seems to know most of the store’s products equally so if you are looking for a dulcimer ask her. The last guy is the only reason I still shop there. Tall, skinny dude with a Rock a Billy haorcut. Hands down one of the nicest people I have ever met in a store. He could not care less if you came in there without a dollar to your name or a single chord to play. He loves music and wants to spread that around. If anyone there had the skill to warrant being haughty it would be him, but he is the last one there to do anything other than brighten your day. I take friends in there who have social anxiety etc. or are just nervous because they don’t play and he puts them right at ease. I would love to write this place off, but one great employee can make a difference. He doesn’t even know the difference he has made with some of my Army buddies that can barely handle being out of the house, but thanks to him there is one place they can go feel like a regular guy perusing a store. When my son is old enough he is who I want him to take lessons from. Truthfully he deserves a better place to work at.
Wide variety of stringed instruments. Helpful but not pushy staff. Only saw one acoustic\electric bass. Good deals to be found from a local business but do your research.
Had a warranty repair done on my sons telecaster relating to the neck pickup. After waiting for about 45 days for the new pickup to arrive from finder I picked up the guitar without testing it at the store. When I got home I plugged it in to find out that it had a major ground issue. The hum was so intense it seemed as though I was summoning lightening. I returned to the store agitated because it was clear it wasn’t even tested after the repair & $56 dollar setup. David assured me it was normal noise a telecaster makes. He said he had a custom shop telecaster that was even worse. However I played the guitar a lot before the part failed and it didn’t have any loud feedback or 60 hertz hum. (4 gen noiseless) After a lot of back and forth and him calling fender to tell them that the customer is complaining of normal noise. I took the guitar to guitar center and compared it to other noiseless telecasters and even a squire tele and it was obviously way way worse, unbearable! So I sent the guitar back to sweetwater (These guys are awesome) were it was purchased and the guitar tech there told me what the issue was. David at the fret shop had soldered an additional ground on the front pickup and that that solder joint had made contact with or caused interference with the coil wrappings. So it was replaced and now works as it should. Once again the guitar sounds beautiful and clean. I had to pay to have this repair done plus a new pickup along with shipping because it was the result of an improper modified solder failure that I didn’t approve or authorize. I can only assume David is dishonest or hard of hearing and also I’m sure he is the most unprofessional person to deal with. All the time wasted for a $30 part I could have easily replaced myself SMH I thought well it’s covered by warranty. lol.. I try to shop local because we all should but I’ll never spend another of my hard earned dollars here. I was taking lessons here as well, the rooms upstairs are kind of musty smelling just FYI.
Yes of course I am leaving the review for the appropriate business! It is my sons guitar that his mother and I bought for him. 2018 MIM Telecaster thin line deluxe. It was repaired under his name so it wouldn’t cause confusion if he needed some other warranty work done in the future also the registration & the warranty card is in his name. FYI
I’m obviously wrong about your guitar techs name but it was the same guy that has done work on my guitars, my girlfriends guitars and my sons guitars. To my knowledge he is the only tech you have or had at that time.
I took a video of the unbelievable sound that it was making, I have the part that was causing it, I have documentation from the technician at Sweetwater that repaired it and I will be happy to share that with you if you actually care. I prefer and try to support local business but I will not be treated the way I was or lied to period! That guy (whatever his name is) has 0 credibility with me. One bad apple. Everyone else was very pleasant and Andy is awesome, its unfortunate.
The white wire is not factory and was not otherized. The solder has made contact with the coil and or melted the insulation on the factory wires. It literally sounded like it was summoning lightning. Instead of saying oops and fixing it he tried to convince me it was normal. The whole experience was remarkable!
I won’t shop there anymore. I needed a small screw for a PRS truss rod cover and the luthier wouldn’t even take the time to speak to the young man helping me, or look through his box of old screws to help. Bad customer service.
I’ve always tried to buy from The Fret Shop vs. Guitar Center and have often made purchases there. Including a Martin guitar. Good thing he stays in the back. He cost the store future sales, with his attitude.
I have never been in this shop without being made to feel like a second class citizen. Bought a defective Taylor here, the first three frets were lower than the rest. When I asked about the warranty I was told they weren’t qualified to make that repair. When pushed on the matter their final answer was, didn’t you play it before you bought it? If you’re in the right clique this might be a great store, if not, Buyer Beware!
17. Maxwell’s Music
Address: 100 Jefferson St N suite 108, Huntsville, AL 35801 , Meridianville , Alabama , United States
There’s over 8000 records DVDs and movies! Such a wonderful collection
Small store, but the owner is a real class act. Jarrod is invested in building a good relationship with his customers. If you talk to him about what you’re looking for, he can keep you in the loop or set some items aside as he gets new stock to make sure you have a reason to come back. It can be tough finding good used record selections in Alabama, but Jarrod does what he can to keep his stock rotating and his prices are fair.
Great collection of vinyl. Very knowledgeable on music.
Alot of options but not well organized
The owner is a true music lover and vinyl lover.
Small space, very clean and fairly well organized. Vinyl and CDs available. Fair selection of vinyl – recommend hitting the ‘new arrival’ bins first as the sorted materials are very well picked through.
This is embarrassing
Got kicked out for no reason, I went him and the stronger looking guy told me to “go fetch”.
