Chris is super amazing. I’d highly recommend checking out the store.
I know the store hours are pretty weird, but Chris is an honest, great store owner and Starr music is about the only store I’ll buy from. I do buy most of the kid’s gear online, but once in a while, I shop locally and always make Starr music a destination.
Awesome place for all your musical needs
Best deal on drumsticks. Bought an entire brick of Nova sticks for the best price I’ve ever found. Better than online prices. Only 4 stars because I wanted wood tips. 5 star pricing though.
Good place
It was a simple small town music store; nothing much more than guitars in there. It was decent though.
He’s not even open on time or was 10 am and I went at 11 and he wasn’t open if running a store run it right
Awful. Went 2-3 different times in one day just to see all the lights on, the OPEN sign glowing and to try and open locked doors. Also called that morning about something specific, the guy told me to call back after 10 minutes…I do over and over….to get no answer all day. Smh

Best place in South GA, they did some repairs on my grandfather’s 1980 ibenez guitar and just all round great job, best people to do business with when it comes to guitars and other musical needs
The Hawkinsville Opera House is pleased with the service that we receive from Southern Music and look forward to doing business with them again in the future…THANKS
Great guys. Stopped in off the interstate and they fixed up some minor issues with my steel guitar, no charge. So helpful and friendly that I bought some things anyway.
This is a nice locally owned music store. Very good selection of guitars and other musical instruments. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Stop by and support a small business!

YESSSS VERY GOOD THEY FIXED MY INSTRUMENT SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ERROR
Amazing service, knowledgeable staff, and timely repairs. Great store for all your instrument needs!
Always go here for any needs my daughter has when it comes to orchestra. Never had any issue at all. Was we in band and orchestra at the same time! I know, it’s a lot but her flute happen to need a new pad and it was only a week or 2 before her concert (last school year, again I know.. I’m late posting this! Sorry) we went straight there after school one day they told us no problem to fix it and we rented her one for time being. The time it took to fix was a lot faster than we expected! It was like new again! And she had sound! They saved the day! We have never had an issue. It has been awhile from last time we went seeing how we own her instruments but if we need anything this is the only place we go! Staff is friendly and always answer any questions I have even the dumb ones! I know.. Their great cause I can have some dumb questions! Lol
Very helpful staff. Excellent choices for piano teaching books.
I was lied to… basically an older woman who worked for the store and no longer there stated that after I returned my rental a portion of my monthly fee would be refunded or i could rent another instrument… lies… all lies… A younger gentleman who now works in the store did not want to keep the obligation based on the contract.. PLEASE READ YOUR CONTRACTS.. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE SAYING IF YOU DON’T KNOW … PLEASE READ YOUR CONTRACTS…
I have come here for some of my repairs before…but today was the first time I’ve ever seen a business have a sign saying they’re open with the door locked and have on the door saying “I’m in the back working on something at the moment and please wait 10 minutes. If 10 minutes have passed, please read the sign again.” Some customers may have the ability to do so. However, unfortunately my situation is where I have to use a knee scooter due to a disability and had to depend on someone for a ride. I just think thats bad business practice and me personally will have to think twice due to my circumstances.
I dropped off a violin to be repaired in winter of 2021. I called February 2022 asked about it and said “it must have gotten pushed to the back.” Then said they’d start working on it. It is now June 2022 and has yet to be repaired. When I went to pick the violin up because I had yet to be contacted by them, the gentlemen handed me the violin without any explanation or apologies.

Address: 1153 Altamaha Rd, Hazlehurst, GA 31539 , Montgomery County , Georgia , United States
Just purchased a vox ac30 from here. The guys were busy moving to the new store but took the time to help me and showed me a couple things. If you need anything, go here and talk to them!
I love this music shop . They have a very large virity of instrments.
Awesome staff, quick and easy service
Tl;dr Great friendly and professional staff. But be cautious of pricing. Could have paid over $200 normal price!
Pro: Friendly Staff, professional, local, price matching, 10% military discount (when not price matching)
Cons: Very high price $200+ mark up (at least for my product)
My daughter just started band this year in middle school and Portman’s Music was highly recommended by the school. We decided to rent an instrument vs. buying one since percussion was not available early on the year and that’s what she wanted to play. During the band rental meeting at the school we were informed that a portion of the rental fee can be like a savings account towards a purchase later on down the road (up to 13 months). One thing that was not disclosed was that the instrument had to be at least $700 or more. The lady that was assisting us was new and we were the first customers that she helped with the rental contract and did not mention this part. She was very friendly and we were very patient throughout the process.
Fast forward 3 months: We stopped by to switch out instruments, we explored the option of buy an instrument (bell kit). I had asked if the credits would transfer to this purchase but it did not since the bell kit was listed as $439 and was under the aforementioned minimal amount. I was a little upset but could not totally fault the store since I should have done the due diligence and read the agreement thoroughly. I happen to pull out my phone and did a quick Amazon search of the bell kit (Pearl PK910C) and it was listed as $229 ($194.50 with Amazon coupon)! I showed the rep that was assisting us and it was the same model as the one they tried to sell for $439. He also looked on Guitar Centers website and it was listed as $239 as well. Thankfully, he said they were able to price match which is a huge plus! If I hadn’t looked at price prior to purchasing, I would have over paid around $210. Not sure why the difference was so high.
Despite all that, I still decided to go with this local store vs. big box store and online retailers.
Overall the best place for music in town. I was a litlle disappointed recently that they didn’t have a wider selection of guitar primers but this is still my music store.
Perfect size store to have what you need but not being overwhelming for the hobbiest/beginner.
I needed to swap out a Fender California Cable which is covered by a lifetime warranty from Fender. Portman’s is a Fender dealer. They told me I would need the original packaging and receipt for my warranty exchange. Who keeps a receipt and original packaging for a guitar cable? It’s very disappointing to get this kind of customer service from a Fender dealer. Apparently, Portman’s doesn’t honor Fender warranties. There are three guitar players in our house and my wife bought an amp here at Christmas. I told her to never go in this store again. If zero stars was an option, that is what I would rate this store.
Dropped off a ukelele on Wed, 5/16, to replace 4 tuners & 4 new strings. Called Friday & was told it was ready. Went to store & it had not been touched. Called Sunday 120PM and was told they would check & call back. Nobody called so an hour later we called and was told it had not been touched and the luthier could start working on it Monday, so we went & picked it up. They did refund our deposit, but no apology for the lack of service.
I was told over the phone that they had in-store repair for band instruments but when I brought my oboe in, they told me it had to be shipped to their primary shop out of town and it would be a couple week turn around. They could have told me that over the phone and saved me the trip since it was an emergency repair.

Went to the store to have an instrument cleaned. The staff was amazing. They were extremely helpful and friendly. Better yet they were very quick to complete the service we needed. I would recommend the store to anyone looking for a music store.
Great place to shop for the musically inclined. Staff was knowledgeable, courteous and professional.
Tuned daughters clarinet several times, they do outstanding qork
Friendly service .
Kind, thorough, customer service!
They are over priced and lame
They were friendly, but we kinda felt they were stand offish because my husband was asking all kinds of questions and we kinda felt that they was tired of being asked the many questions that my husband asked. They had a low selection of items and we felt that we was being pushed out of the store because he asked us a few times if we was ready to check out. So after a few times of being asked we checked out and left. Not sure if we will be going back or if we will make the hour trip to Fayetteville for all of our needs.
13. All Star Music Center
Address: 3981 Athens Hwy, Loganville, GA 30052 , Montgomery County , Georgia , United States
John has been involved in music his entire life. John is music. So any questions you have or help you may need, John will go beyond what you get at any other music store.
This is a great location with a friendly, knowledgeable owner, that can fix anything on a guitar (at least all my issues so far). John has also taught me some basic repair skills enabling me to service some of my own needs without having to spend any money. They teach instrument lessons on site, and are the perfect place to pick out a good starter guitar. In addition, I’ve always purchased other odds and ends such as guitar straps, strap locks, picks, strings, etc. Make sure you stop in before going to a big corporate store. All Star Music Center can save you a trip!
Good people and very helpful!
Very friendly place, with knowledgeable people, but the used gear is over priced. Perhaps they like their equipment and instruments like their wine: aged, dry, and of course with heavy wear and tear. They offer a number of new products as well, lessons, and great repair jobs!
Very friendly. Awesome teachers.
Guy running the store was very helpful and knowlegable.
Literally 4:08pm on a Saturday I show up. They were not open. Sign on the door says 10am-6pm. Very disappointed.
Place needs to just close! doubt me, go see what I’m talking about.
I’ve been here 3 times during store hours. nobody at the store go to another shop.

Great place to take lessons, best teachers in the Csra. They have a ton of guitars. The staff is great and knowledgable.
Incredible new downtown music shop with a friendly, knowledgeable staff and amazing gear! Say Hi to Deveran, the owner and pick up your equipment here. Shop locally & keep downtown funky!
My experience was wonderful! I had many varied and particular questions and they were answered. I was shown videos and much research was done to help me. I highly recommend!
Good people very helpful

Their cordial staff was an eye-opener; I haven’t experienced such expertise in one’s craft until I walked into that store. On a Saturday, one staff member was even helpful enough to call up a rep, who only works on weekdays, to answer my questions, and he did so willingly and insisted on not hanging up until I was more than satisfied.
EXCELLENT ! PRICED RIGHT , TOP NOTCH AND KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF.
Very helpful and nice ! Picked up some drumsticks

I like buying local. I got good service on a brass instrument repair. ( I didn’t try to use a pick )
They have fair prices and a mini guitar-center-like selection of guitars. My only complaint is I felt pushed to make a sale when I looked at guitars.
No inventory.
Prices are a bit too high on certain instruments plus the employees are very nosey… If you respect personal boundaries go elsewhere.
I just went in to get son a guitar and then guy in dreads is supposedly the manager and it was an issue for him to even help us. I asked to see his manager and he lied and said he wasnt in. And then he told me to leave. Do not go to this store. Go somewhere where they want your business.
17. Town Center Music
Address: 4072 Suwanee Dam Rd NW, Suwanee, GA 30024 , Montgomery County , Georgia , United States
Amazing place, very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Loved it.
Great local shop and super friendly/helpful people here! John Micheal came through in the clutch with a very specific Gretsch hard shell case for me. He even test fit it for me over the phone as they had the same model guitar in stock. This made it super easy – I was able to order it over the phone and pick it up the next day. Glad to have a great music shop like this locally.
Much better store I not been here in a while the past manager was not a music guy or a manger known as a air head I will be back
Taught my kids to play guitar
Good
Wow. Just called Town Center Music. Someone answered. I started asking about a guitar I’m looking for and got cut off mid-sentence by the guy talking loudly to a co-worker. When he stopped talking I said hello? Hello? Nothing. A few seconds later he hangs up.
Not where u want to shop you find poorly trained staff and not music people I shopped here off and on for years . just not good pepole
Store is dirty poor selection not real big
18. Music Go Round – Atlanta/Duluth, GA
Address: 3675 Satellite Blvd # 100, Duluth, GA 30096 , Montgomery County , Georgia , United States
Found a like new guitar for half the price. Staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
Music Go Round is what you wish Guitar Center was like: huge selection and incredible staff.
This isn’t your typical, small used-gear music store like you’ll find spread out across Metro Atlanta, Music Go Round has a large array of musical instruments and gear to check out in one spot: A massive wall of electrical guitars, stacks of amps and cabs, rows of practice amps, 2 cases of pedals, and a variety of other instruments like violins, cellos, flutes, and much more… and it all changes periodically as things get sold and brought in.
Staff are friendly, helpful, and most importantly: relaxed. I felt zero pressure from them to buy anything, but was encouraged to try out everything I wanted to. Love it!
This is now my go-to store for music gear.
The one thing to note, and the only real ‘down-side’ are the prices compared to retail; it’s not huge depending on the item so if you’re going in looking for large price cuts, this isn’t the place. They do have a big focus on trade-ins so you may be able to get a good chunk reduced if you bring some stuff in.
I love y’all! This is the best music store around with great deals, products and service every time. These quints are definitely gonna be put to good use
Good selection, knowledgeable staff, decent prices.
Used top of line gear at inexpensive prices. Definitely check out if you are a musician in need of equipment.
I hadn’t been in a music store in 20 years. Lots of gear, friendly salespeople but not pushy at all.
Cool if you’re looking for music gear but terrible place to sell, all these guys do is low ball you and try to make as much profit on your gear as possible. Would give a better review if your employees weren’t so stuck up. They’ll be happy to take your money though anytime.
Cheap, well used gear.
Stay away and do not support this joke of a music store…Look at anything advertised on their site. Then look at the shipping cost! For example, they charge $96 to ship a 3 pound cymbal! What tops the cake is the worst customer service you receive via phone or direct email. “We rather sell it in the store that’s why we charge so much for shipping.” Yeah, you read right: I actually was verbally told this via phone…and to back this up, they refuse to give the business owners name and claim the “Floor Manager Naeem” is the store owner and shot caller…who is the reason behind this disgusting practice. Ann Wood is the owner. Be sure to call and ask for her if you have the same issues and she’s the real problem. This review was posted after experiencing the same situation twice here, and four other times nationwide. Do not buy anything here, shop where service and fair market value is the standard.
