Great store . Mattoon is very lucky to have such a store. GREAT EMPLOYEES, INSTRUCTORS AND OF COURSE THE OWNER!!!
Great DJ services!
In the late 90s early 2000’s this was an awesome store. Used CD’s, Ppl who loved to talk about old bands and music culture, It was different. Mind you, they still have great instrument selection, and fair prices for a small business. Some staff is decent, some have the personality of a week old gym sock. I’d say if your local, pick up your kids first instrument there and support local small business. Idk if the lead dude from x-crush still works there, but he was awesome. but it’s a lottery.
Love going there and stuff but idk if it was one of the employees or just a customer, but this older guy walked up to me and my friend and made a really rude comment about our colored hair “did you wake up late at a party or something?” How the actual heck would anyone think that is an ok thing to say?????
That was one of my favorite music stores to go to and now I’m not so sure, if it were an employee who sayid that. I’m pretty sure it was because he walked to the back after that. If you have colored hair and you take hate comments too seriously, be careful.
I remember your Christmas store at the Mall always used to eye the Bass in the box and now i am playing that a Jazz Bass i bought i am now in Tennessee so thanks for helping with my dreams
So you want to call on the dude behind me in line and not even greet me or tell me to have a nice day? Poor way to run a business. The old white guy at the front is rude and inconsiderate. He chose to serve the man behind me in line, likely because I’m a woman, so congrats on losing not only my 42$ purchase I got refunded today; but all future purchases from my multi instrumentalist husband that has been a customer here for over 6 years. I’ll buy from Amazon before giving my money to rude old men. Do better. Hope it was worth it for that dudes 12 dollars worth of strings.
My family came in just a few minutes ago and they were very ride to us. My boyfriend, who is normally a very strong person, just walked out of this place in tears because they made him feel embarrassed. Smh. Rude rude employees who act like musical elites.

Friendly staff. Very knowledgeable. Great deals. They sent a personally written thank you note in the mail. Ya dont get that kind of old school service and gratitude from anyone other than where you should be doing business. Thank you!
Awesome store.. Doesnt look like much from the outside.. But they have good stuff.. Good selection and very knowledgeable staff. They rock quite jazzy with the pop yo!! I’m not sure what that means.. But Sound check Music Center is excellent! I highly recommend.
Fair prices and knowledgeable staff.
Friendly service. Salesman help my husband and answered every question he had and they act like professionals.
Good service!
They are the only music store left in town so I try to shop there and support localy..but I was playing a guitar and the owner came up and took it from me and hung it up…no trying to help or assist me ..my sister has said he was rude to her before too. I will be purchasing from online or going out of town from now on.
Everything, but ESPECIALLY strings and sticks are ridiculously overpriced. John behind the counter has essentially no musical background. Seemingly, those who are more musically inclined work less. The instructors are awesome, but hiring them outside of the store would behoove both the student and the teacher.
If you’re considering trading in a used instrument with them, don’t. Use craigslist.
If you need to buy something new, do it at Linda’s. Better prices and more helpful staff.
REPAIRS. DO THEM ELSEWHERE. These guys will be decent to you on small jobs like restringing or intonation but a simple part replacement can be extremely expensive.
6. Chris K Music Lesson and Instrument Repair Studio
Address: 821 S 23rd St, Mattoon, IL 61938 , Moultrie County , Illinois , United States
Chris is WONDERFUL! My son has some special needs and has been taking drum lessons for almost 2 years. Chris is patient and kind and my son looks forward every week to going to lessons!
I have been taking guitar lessons with Chris K Music for over 2 years now. I can truly say I have been very happy with the results. I can play and sing plenty of songs. He teaches and lets you use your own creativity at the same time. I really appreciate that. He makes it fun! I look forward to each lesson. Thanks Chris!
I love this place! The vibe in the store is easy and welcoming! Customer service is tops and I love the variety of items! You never know what you are going to find! You must plan on spending time to see all the great products!! Definitely the best place to be in Charleston !!
very helpful staff, and very polite, helped me with knowledge and choice in my product. prices were reasonable.
It’s a nice well kept building with reasonably priced EIU gear
Small selection an nobody ever knows what im talkin about or how to use the product properly.
Large selection of EIU t-shirts at half the cost of the official bookstore.
The lady with with curl dark hair is very rude both times I have been here I understand there are policys but could use better customer service
Rude staff
Went in today to get a refund that was supposed to be written down and recorded however there was a short dark-haired woman super skinny build who attended to me when I first walked in the door she told me that she would look up my name and to give her a few minutes she proceeded to walk to the cash register and take a new customer and she did this three times I had to get the attention of a young man named Braxton who helped me immediately and furthermore I have never been treated rudely at the store before this is definitely the first time and it’ll probably be the last so I go there a while thanks Braxton you were actually great with your customer service.
12. Dollar General
Address: 107 E Jackson St, Sullivan, IL 61951 , Moultrie County , Illinois , United States
For all the people giving this store a 1 star, This is a Dollar General. You cannot expect it to be ran like a 5 star Super Walmart. It is a convenient store to get small necessities.
This Dollar General is horrible! There is this woman named Jessica she is rude, disrespectful, and doesn’t know how to to her job! There is always merchandise in the aisles, this shouldn’t be this way it should be stocked before the store is open or after it is closed. This is ridiculous and I am sick of it, it was not like this before the new manager took over. I’m calling the BBB asap. I cannot afford to drive 20 miles everytime I need something. My husband and I are so disappointed with this store. It’s always a mess nothing is stocked and they are rude! Thank you and have a wonderful day! 🙂
New store…beautiful large building…same poorly managed store. I waited in line for 20 minutes last night. This isn’t the first time. And poorly stocked shelves. Have been in three times and not been able to get what I went in to purchase: buns, eggs, and tomato juice. Stock those shelves and hire more people. Tired of waiting in ridiculously long lines. One person per shift is not enough!!
Store is absolutely disgusting….aisles cramped nothing is cleaned up looks like a bomb went off. Also you have to wait in line forever!

I cannot speak more highly of Mike! He is extremely professional and personable. I have a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer that needed an internal battery replaced, and with it being my most prized instrument, I was really nervous about handing it over to someone else to repair. Right from the start of doing business with each other, Mike put my mind at ease. This is someone who is very thorough and meticulous with his work, which is evident in the way he conducts business, and in the end result of the job he is tasked with. He truly cares about making the customer happy.
I received my DX7 back with not even the littlest of a blemish on it that wasn’t there before. And it’s back to working like new. If you’re in the central Illinois area and need an instrument repaired, look no further. I highly, highly recommend Wildman’s Instrument Repair.
Mike has been working on my guitars for two or three years now.
I bought a guitar that came with a free setup. I played the guitar for about six weeks and thought that it was a pretty good guitar. Then I took it in for my free setup and Mike happened to be the guy that did the setup on it and Wow ! I couldn’t believe how much easier it played and how much better it sounded.
That made me wonder if he could do that to my other guitars. I had one guitar that I always said you had to play it like an ape. Meaning, you really had to push down pretty hard on the strings to get it to sound right. It was a good sounding guitar but it was hard to play.
I took it in and Mike did a setup on it and just like the first guitar it played a lot easier and sounded great. I had three guitars at that time so of course I decided to take the other one in to see if Mike could make a difference in it. Again when I got it back he had improved the way it played and sounded.
I bought a new guitar about seven months ago and wasn’t to happy with it. It had some buzzing in the strings and was another guitar that was hard to play ( Had to play it like an ape ).
I was considering selling it but I thought I would give it to Mike first and see what he thought and if he could help it. He looked it over and said he would call me when it was done. He called and I went and picked it up and have never gave a thought to selling it since Mike worked on it. He turned it into a guitar that I want to keep and play everyday. It played and sounded a lot better than it did brand new.
I’m not sure what he does or how he does it but whatever it is he has made better guitars out of all four of my mine.
Personally, I wouldn’t even consider taking my guitars to anyone else.
If you need musical instruments worked on, you might want to give Mike a try and see what you think.
The kindness that Mike shared in the short amount of time we talked was tremendous. I recommend him to anyone in need
