I went to Northwest Music Center looking for a specific Yamaha keyboard. That model was unavailable so the salesman recommended a DGX-660. He patiently answered all my question. While the DGX-660 would likely do what I had in mind, I wasn’t quite sure. I asked about the YDP models and, again, he patiently answered my questions.
At this point I started asking questions relating to my past experiences of playing a “real” piano with the feel of those keys and that I was looking for my first keyboard to replace a real piano.
The salesman got one of their music instructors with a lot of experience with pianos and keyboards to talk to me. She quickly understood my prior experiences with pianos and the type of music I was interested in and steered me specifically to the YDP-163 model. There was no high-pressure sales tactics; just honest information and options to help me get what would make me happy. They offered to dismantle the floor unit to fit in my SUV and also gave me the option to buy a new in the box.
Based on the excellent suggestions from taking the time to patiently answer all my questions, I bought the Yamaha YDP-163 on the spot. It was priced higher than what I had originally came in for but what I came in for would not have matched what I needed and I would not have been happy down the road. The salesman and the music teacher helped match the equipment to my experiences, style, and expectations. The price was fair and worth the features I needed.
I got the box home. Assembly was quick and easy. I plugged it in and started playing. I couldn’t be happier. Northwest Music Center gave excellent customer support along with their time and patience to sell me exactly what I needed. I highly recommend Northwest Music Center for their quality instruments and exceptional customer service.
Very good place for your music needs!
Very helpful in finding items for your instruments. The instruction is top drawer.
4 stars because they do have a great selection, prices are fair, and the store is very clean and organized. The staff at first seemed helpful but then seemed impatient, as I was asked if I was ready to check out while I was still looking at guitars with an item in my hand. Caught me off guard as I felt rushed after only being in the store a couple minutes and wasn’t near the register. Other than that, they have a great selection of beautiful guitars and quality gear.
Never again will i rent here!!!! Very rude people running the counter and won’t take a cash payment!!! Thus place is not one I would recommend to anyone. Very sad
Im furious with the service here. I understand that a business needs to make money. But the manager there a young man, tried to upsale me on everything. And I was shopping as a newcomer to the instrument I was there for. So it seemed a little not nice to me. Then I get to the counter and a different young man is ringing me up and my price comes out to much more then the items were explained to me. And unless I said something the Young man wouldn’t have thought twice. So I bring it up and he figures out that it had been misslabled. And was 15 dollars more then the sticker price. The manager asked the other gentelmen what the cost price was for the item as if he were going to give me that price. Saw it on the computer and said let’s see what else we have back here. And went back and got me a cheap version so that my price would match. I wanted so badly to tell the manager that I wanted the sticker price as it was not my fault that it was posted that way and that I was explained to that it was that price. And that it’s very bad business to instead of make it right, to just downgrade my product to match the price… I’m furious. And I hope who ever the owner is sees this and has a talk with their employees. I’m sorry to the owner that I leave this review you probably would have done the right thing.
One star is too many. I realized after opening the package that I accidentally bought 12-string guitar strings. When I tried to exchange them for the more suitable 6 strings, I was told that once they were open, the sale is final. Speaking of final, that was my last purchase at this store.
Tony Cox
PS– Having no use for the strings, I donated them to the store.
4. Burt’s Music & Sound
Address: 1123 Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814 , Nezperce , Idaho , United States
Here on a business trip and thought I’d stop in to take a look around. I ended buying a Kala UBASS at a great price. Excellent service! Felt nice supporting a mom and pop music store and not a corporate guitar center.
Bert’s reminds me of a “ole”school music store. Honesty , Integrity are just a few words that come to mind. They are always very helpful and very friendly. They love to talk music…Awesome Selection.
Great place, private lessons for different instruments and they sale and repair instruments as well.
Low on inventory
Really good but switched my sax mouth piece for clarinet mouth piece
Friendly staff
Staff helped, but it felt like I was bothering him. The only instruments for sale were on consignment. They had a few new instruments mainly guitars and bass. It was darkish. This wasn’t the music store I remembered has a child. And it breaks my heart, at least they had a flute cleaning rod that I needed.
They fix guitars but your screwd if you got a Floyd rose. Other than that good store good people.
Bad experience
5. Wilburn Custom Shop
Address: 118-B N 2nd Ave, Sandpoint, ID 83864 , Nezperce , Idaho , United States
Scott and his staff are fantastic. I’ve had several of my guitars in his shop for various reasons and he’s always come through for me. Great work and reasonable prices!
Great knowledgable staff and cool equiptment some of the coolest looking acoustic guitars!
Came in for some minor electronics repair. Staff was friendly and I could tell they have a passion for what they do. Excellent experience!
Scott did a great job repairing the neck and frets on my strat. Friendly, knowledgeable, and honest service. This is a well stocked music store for any musician.
Family owned and ran by father daughter, won’t help you if you have cheap guitar and, supper opinionated about Taylor’s. Wish it could be cooler but does not pass vibe check.
Make sure dad is there before going in, they can’t take are debit or credit card unless daddy is there. Went in twice with no luck, this is why people shop on the internet, ugh so annoyed
Met with a deaf, unfriendly, inhospitable musician. Prices are not marked and not open to add to the local music scene. Go elsewhere imo.
6. Discount Music Supply
Address: 5380 E Seltice Way STE C, Post Falls, ID 83854 , Nezperce , Idaho , United States
Small music store but that’s what I like for personal assistance on everything you are interested in.
Have always had good device from discount music supply. They let me try out anything. Before I buy. Good prices good people. I will continue biz here
Trying to find an acoustic electric bass guitar for my husband, the owner ordered one for us, called me when it was in, and even loaded it up in my car for me.
Good selection and reasonable prices
This is the soul of music place…
awesome place to pick up some guitar strings, drum head or whatever you need at a fair price. Plus they price match internet prices..
I made the drive out here from spokane based on reviews I thought it would be worth it to check it out. I got there at 3:44 and it was closed. I understand it’s in a sort of secret place but if you’re gonna close early you should maybe close around half an hour early rather than nearly an hour and a half early.
I am on tour with my band, and I am in dire need of some new sticks. We call the store around 5:30 pm to ask them when they close. They close at 6pm and we tell them we are on our way right then. Get there at 5:45 pm and they are closed. I mean, no one there, they counted out, gone. I know many musicians who tour around the area often and I have told them to NOT go to this store. Go to Burts.
It’s really too bad these geniuses have the most ridiculous hours of operation. Tried to explain to their feeble minds that people that can afford to spend money on musical instruments are WORKING for a living. Nobody is going to take time off of work to go shop at this place. Open at a decent hour and I’ll shop there. In the last 4 1/2 years, I’ve spent approx. $5,000.00 ELSEWHERE as a direct result of their terrible hours. This I must say is regrettable as I would much prefer to keep the money here in Post Falls. Note: I’ve heard these jokers complaining that sales are very poor at that store. No wonder.
7. Hearthstone Restaurant & Bakery
Address: 502 Main St, Kamiah, ID 83536 , Nezperce , Idaho , United States
Great food and great atmosphere. Very large portions and they make all of their own bread.
Ordered take out. Lady at counter very nice. High quality and very generous portion on the California Turkey Club. Decor was old school but interesting. Great place.
Today it took about 1 hour to get our food. The food is very good and it usually doesn’t take long for the food to arrive. Just an off day I guess.
UPDATE: i gave them 1 star. I went back recently because of my husband. So they have improved a lot. I gave them 4 stars. Used to go there a lot. Unfortunately, they keep hiring new people. The last time we were there a new waitress was very rude to my husband and I. So we went somewhere else
Great place, for a nice meal, especially for breakfast or lunch. IF you like cinnamon rolls…give theirs a try! You can also get “homemade” bread, rolks, etc to go!
As soon as I walked through the door the wait staff were warm and welcome. I was looking at the pastries, since I was undecided if there was going to be more than coffee, and questions on what the various sweets were readily answered. The warmth dried up as soon as I continued into the restaurant and sat down. I watched my coffee poured into a paper to-go cup which seemed a bit off since every other person at the tables around me had an actual coffee cup. Now I have seen that in the past where coffee shops run low on cups and are waiting for the dishwasher but by everyone having a cup I mean including the people served right before and right after. I simply brushed that off. Perhaps I was in the 30 second window of mugs being out. The end off it all though was when a server came by to all of the tables to ask if more coffee was needed, except mine.I was sitting in the middle of the restaurant. It isn’t as if a corner booth was missed in error. Obviously I wasn’t welcome.
It would have been a lot more pleasant if the had just let me know as soon as I walked in. Now I am sure this place is a lot better,
Lack of service
We just walked out of place ,Waitresses was so rude never got waited on ,HORRIBLE and yes we are locals but will never do business there again and will tell Everyone about your rude waitresses. Wynona
8. Dunkley Music
Address: 3410 N Eagle Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Nezperce , Idaho , United States
I don’t think I got the name of the lady who helped us pick out the instrument, but she was very helpful. Natalie, who got our rental setup, was so professional and explained everything so well. The rental program is awesome and I believe that the price is very fair. I was dreading going in to rent an instrument, but they made it so easy.
Dunkley’s is a great music/instrument store. We have purchased violins, trumpets, french horns, and pianos from them. Very satisfied with the service and pricing, and the staff is top notch. Highly recommend.
I have spent a lot of time at Dunkleys and have purchased two pianos that I am very happy with. Melody is my go to sales person. She listens to what I’m looking for and directs me to the instruments that fit my needs. Delivery on both pianos has also been well done. Strongly recommend this music store.
I have bought a Kawai CN25 from Marion in a total of sale price of 600 plus 13 month renting period. Ends up with about 1645 U.S dollar. I am really happy with what I’ve purchased. And Marion is very nice on settling the deals with me.
It’s alright. If you’re looking for Orchestra stuff I would recommend Telford and Sons.
Back when Dunkley’s was in-town in Boise, I was an avid customer…they always have been professional and friendly all-in-one! They still are.
All of my musical equipment, specifically my violin and flute for school orchestra/band, came from here. And I am impressed with it nowadays!
GOOO Dunkley Music!!!
My wife, son, and I went to Dunkleys to do a little piano shopping as we had sold her piano a few years back and have now moved into a new home and have space again. Spent 10 minutes walking around looking at the various options without so much as a hello from anyone working there. Noone seemed overly busy but neither did they seem interested in helping us. Love supporting local but if you do not want my business you will not get it.
This would be a wonderful music store if it wasn’t for the poor customer service for the folk who come in who are judged based on appearance and/or their apparent wealth or lack thereof. I have been playing piano and trombone for more than half my life now and my daughter is about to enter 6th grade. She has tried the trombone but is more interested in playing tuba. The staff told her she was too little, that the other instrument she was interested in — bassoon — was “really rare,” [too] expensive, and that starting on a double reed instrument was a really bad idea…oh, and did I mention that she was just way too short to play the instruments she wanted? This is not their place to decide and I have played alongside MANY petite, thin, and amazing female tuba players. Staff should not provide input on what instruments myself or anyone else “should” play, nor place any limits on their customer. Their job is to sell instruments and they can do so without being condescending or insulting.
Update: Just noticed I had a response. Must have missed the email on it. I hear what you are saying but telling me October when school starts in August is a no go.
I appreciate the response, but it has not changed my mind. If I cannot get service when I need it then I don’t need to spend other money there either. My review has done nothing for your rating. Just lets people know where we stand if we do not purchase or rent an instrument through you.
Flute Maintenance
If you bought your flute or are renting it from Dunkley, you are golden for maintenance. If you did not, they do not want your business. At least that is what I was told today when trying to take a flute in for maintenance. I called about a week before school let out to ask about this and was told to bring it in after a music camp. It was stated that it was not purchased through them at that time and they were willing to take it and do maintenance. It would be about three weeks.
Due to the large number of instruments for school I was told they would not accept any unless it was purchased or rented from them, but if I wanted to wait until October they would take it at that point. Shouldn’t school instruments be done before October???
Well thanks for your honesty and to the point wording of your message. I used to like coming in here, guess since my flute maintenance money is no good here neither is my other money.
Thanks for the direct message that if you are not a Dunkley instrument owner, you are not important.
Message received.
9. Blue Rider Music & Instrument Repair
Address: 595 W Ustick Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Nezperce , Idaho , United States
Can’t say enough good things about this place. They’re incredibly kind, knowledgeable and helpful; and you can tell that they genuinely care about helping you find what you need instead of just selling you something. I look forward to giving them more business in the future.
Simply the only place in town to visit for instrument repair or anything you might need for band
My family has been going here for years for good reason! These folks do great work and have the best dogs. I highly recommend them.
Helpful staff! They got my son’s trumpet soldered and shined!
I need a trumpet mute and I don’t know if Blue Rider has one! Can someone help?

Excellent place to grab vinyls, CDs, and stuff. Great staff who care about music.
Awesome retro feel
Great store!
Not a huge selection but some great hippy merchandise
Its growing and they are upping their merchandise so that’s cool
Cool
Refused service for no mask, even though Kootenai Health drop mandate.
This store has a huge music selection for traditional listening on records and Cds. Good friendly customer service two out of three times. The prices are pretty steep though as far as their gifts and novelties.
There was not enough people im there to require masks(6 feet away all dal) 100 % healthy withmy 14 yr old daughter .unwilling wore the dam things in the country of freedom and bravery .

I would recommend Rick to anyone needing work done or for any rock style instruments.
Rick is Awesome!
I highly recommend Rick’s Music for all guitar needs. Whether it be a repair or a purchase, this is the place to get it done. Rick has been my go to for my guitar and bass needs for a decade. I will always send friends and family to Rick’s Music!
Rick is a great guy, and there’s always a gem or two hanging on the wall. Good prices, too!
I had Rick set up my guitar. He did a Fantastic job. Fast and reliable. One day service. I would Recommend him all who needs guitar service. AAA++++
Last Saturday I took my most prized possession to Rick, I paid to have a set up and new strings put on my Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute pro. When I got it home I pulled it out and wanted to play it. I noticed right off the bat that Rick took a Utility knife or some other tool and shaved off the binding all around the fret board The fret board has gouges all the way around and the frets stick out and gouge your fret hand when you try to play it. My guitar is completely ruined! I haven’t slept in several days I’m so pissed. I in no way implied, asked for or mentioned that he do this to my guitar. I can’t even open the case it makes me so sick! I would not recommend Rick to anyone again. Rudy Rodriguez Nampa Idaho
13. Dorsey Music, Nampa
Address: 1231 Caldwell Blvd, Nampa, ID 83651 , Nezperce , Idaho , United States
We had a great experience with this place! We came to have a guitar restrung, and possibly purchase another (depending on the service we got, and their prices). We are specifically so thankful for Dave. I am so appreciative of him! He took great interest in helping my teen son learn more about guitars. He praised him and really built him up, teaching him so much while we were there! He also was so sweet with our other (younger) kids…letting them try out instruments and really giving them a love for it all! There was also a female employee who was just as sweet and so helpful. I can’t say enough about these two! Really had a great time there and are VERY happy with the service we got, as well as the guitar we purchased. As long as they are there, we will continue to come back for all our music needs!
Customer service is awesome and prices are lower than anywhere in the state. Great people working there at all times
Love the friendly staff and how it is so easy to find what we need. We have rented and purchased an instrument here and they went above and beyond.
Very friendly service
Dorsey can get you what ever you want in the line of musical instruments and services. Excellent inventory, but seemed a bit pricey.
These guys are alright. I’ve bought PA equipment from them, and when I ask them if they can give me a better price they do. I check around and it’s a competitive price. I will say they have plenty of gear. Sales guys are ok to deal with but you gotta take charge since your suppose to know what your talking about. Over all Dorsey is OK.
I would rather give no stars as they have the worst customer service and always leave my son disappointed.
On several occasions, have I entered the store to try and possibly buy guitars, and every time I am treated terribly. I am 14 years old and have been playing guitar for 3 years, no matter what though, I am constantly treated as a child and told basic beginner tips. Even after telling them how long I’ve been playing they continue to tell me 1st year tricks. Just to add to that, they constantly try to sell me stuff I don’t want or need. Upon telling them I’m not looking to buy they continue to sell amps, cables, guitars, strings, and picks. At my most recent visit, one of the employees, an older man with glasses, was selling something to a customer. My amp was at reasonable volume and wasn’t bothering anyone. Regardless, the man had told me to turn it down. I was reluctant to at first, but did so anyways because I didn’t want to bother anyone. In return, he turned his volume WAY louder than mine was, to the point where I could barely hear my amp. After two to three minutes, he told me to turn mine down some more so he could his up louder. I was in the store for only ten minutes, and immediatly felt unwelcomed. Like I said, this is not the first time this has happened. I honestly recomend taking the drive to guitar center. The employees their are much more customer friendly employees and reasonable prices.
Wasn’t helped for the longest time and when someone finally assisted me they acted as if my insignificance was burdening their life. Ended up leaving to take my business somewhere it’d be appreciated.
