I have had a couple of guitars worked on here based on a recomendation and I can tell you they do fantastic work, my guitars have never played this well before and it made a huge difference. Everything I was told about their guitar tech was true, really great work.
Good people
Huge selection. Friendly knowledgeable staff.
Friendly knowledgable staff and they have a guitar tech on hand. Great for bands and band needs, but horrible for DJs, couldn’t fine one amplifier to work with my digital equipment. From the outside the place looks deserted, but once you step inside, it’s two floors of musical independent.
My first bass is from here. Was kind of expensive but got everything you need to set up your own gig.
They repaired my husbands instrument the same day.
The staff is not very friendly
Needed a simple restring on 2 guitars. It’s 9a.m. There were 2 employees in the store. I was told that the guitar tech would not be till later so i had to drop them off. Then they said it take a “couple of days” remember now im in a music store thats slow and empty and between the two employees obviously nothing was going to get done. Fine.
So the next day Saturday i called first thing then i was told that no one had gotten to it and the guitar tech was off on. The weekend. That means i most likely would not get my guitar back til monday possibly tuesday. Why would somebody (spencer) not tell me that? Right from the get go. Also when i did call the employee said “well we have been slow so they put stuff to the side” so i went down and got my guitars back. I will just go somewhere else. This was my visit here unimpressed. I find it funny that no one there could have strung them up since they were so “slow”.
Avoid.
They have the worst service of any music store I’ve ever been to. Their store is literally a dank basement area and every time I’ve gone there, the workers ignore me until I ask them for something, and even then, they just give me dirty looks as if I’m wasting their time. Then, they’ll treat me poorly if they don’t have what I need, as if it’s my fault. One time I went to get reeds. I told them what type and how many, and they said, “We only have three.” When I asked if they could please check in the back or something, they gave me an attitude and told me to either get what they had or get something else. They only hold enough information about instruments to get you to buy their trash, similar to phone case vendors at the mall. They don’t care at all about helping you find what you need; honestly I don’t even know why they run a music store if they don’t even care about their customers or their instruments. How anyone can give this place a 5-star rating is beyond me, unless they are literally people from the store, trying to make it seem good with their 4.5 star review average.

Great store with wonderfully helpful people. Very new to playing guitar but walked in and asked some questions about restringing my guitar and lowering the action and was met with enthusiasm and kind explanations. Felt very welcome there. The work was done very fast and I was really pleased with the result. Even felt comfortable enough there to play a few notes to make sure everything was set up right (as best a newbie can tell). Ear to ear smile when I left the store.
Great staff! Really know their product. I’ve known them for over 40 years and you can’t do better!
Well, I purchased a Gibson guitar on line from Randee’s. It came somewhat damaged, but it had to to do with Gibson. The nut on the guitar was bad.
Here is the catch, this was bad from the get go, so the either did not inspect the guitar, or just past the problem to me.
I had to pay 2 in shipping to get the repair. I am waiting to see how good the repair will be.
Yet, to be satisfied.
Very knowledgeable and helpful.
Great place for all of your guitar needs!
Randees has great pianos, however they hire cheap labor to deliver those great pianos! and drag their feet when it’s time to pay the worker!
In trying to deal with Randee’s online I can sum the experience up like beating your head up against a brick wall. They are fine, I’m sure, if you don’t have any needs outside their “antiquated brick and mortar style policies” but if your needs require tailoring or more flexibility FORGET IT!
I tried working with Aaron at Randy’s around the purchase of a Kamaka Tenor. The discussions and conversations were great when my needs seemed just like everyone else’s. But when it came time to deal with certain implications of delivery [and the rigidity of my wife’s and my busy 3rd shift schedules] there was no spirit of compromise, nor any want to do anything outside their idea of what should and shouldn’t be done. For example, they require a signature on the delivery via FedEx…which, of course, I understand [especially with the transaction happening within paypal] HOWEVER at the value of the instrument, one could select “indirect” signature and allow for someone to accept the package on my behalf. Yet they were not willing to allow for indirect versus direct [and given that we would not be available in the hours that fedex would be here, that just doesn’t work]. Aaron suggested that I drive 30-40 minutes, out of our way, to go to the nearest FedEx hub where I could pick up the instrument…and if I wanted to do that, I would drive 90 minutes, instead, and buy a Kamaka that I could play beforehand, and take it home with me. Which, in this case, sale or no sale, I will…
…All Aaron would say is that, “I drive 30 minutes to work everyday”. First, I don’t know how his personal life relates to a consumer transaction. But, additionally, he doesn’t know the dynamics with which my family functions, nor should I have to explain WHY driving to pick up the instrument doesn’t work. After all, when paying $1,100, and getting “free delivery”, there shouldn’t be additional hoops to jump, or stipulations to meet. Contracts are easy – offer and acceptance.
This is the 21st century. There are a lot of people outside the scope of “black and white” who have need, demands, expectations beyond that of what the normal 9-5 crowd require. I’ve had countless stores I’ve bought from [as we are a very musical family] and these stores have accommodated us by allowing for indirect signatures. Retailers like these, who aren’t willing to be progressive or considerate should just keep their business within the confines of what they are comfortable – within their brick and mortar walls. Leave the practice of “progressive music retailing” to those who recognize the various needs of the market they’re reaching out to.
Not a bogus review. You guys did a GK-3 pickup install on my guitar and your tech left a passive aggressive note complaining about the install. Such a weird reaction to claim it’s a bogus review, glad I don’t go here anymore.

Biff is very willing to help. He restrung my guitar.
Great service.
I came here to sell my guitars today and Mikey helped me. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and got me the best deal vs other places. thank you
It’s usually pretty nice… Some great deals on things if you come in at the right times… Over all pretty good…
Plenty of music equipment and materials to choose from.
Best guitar center I’ve been to. Staff is knowledgeable, and the teachers in lessons are excellent.
Way over priced.
I went there today and stood there with items in my hand and needing assistance and zero help! Waited for 15 minutes and left without anything because of poor service! Bad business practice to ignore any customer!!
Super knowledgeable. Very interesting to talk to. It’s been a while since I visited his workshop, but am planning a trip back soon to have him restore an old piece and I know I will not be disappointed. He is an amazing person to know and whether you spend money with him or not, he does not mind taking the time to explain to you in detail whatever you want to know about the craft.
Took the time to look at my violin, clean it up and give me a spare part. Super nice guy and a master at the stuff he makes.
Tom Asher provides superb service at a great price. I go to him for advice, especially concerning my son’s Upright Bass and cello. Every repair has been impeccable and fast. I even talk to him about my other son’s Brass instruments and he has been very helpful.
Rated one star cause im yet to learn. Been looking for a string instrument to dabble on. See ya soon! Then will update!

Culture Shock means so much to the city of Rockford!
This place has an amazing selection of records. Great used equipment for all your audio needs. Also a large selection of clothes and accessories and a gift for anyone on your Christmas list.
Sweet place
Expecting something more than an overpriced hot topic
Cool owner and will buy records from you for sometimes more than most will Pay.
I can’t recommend NOT going here enough. They picked the right name because it was definitely a SHOCK looking at most of the prices in there. Highly disappointed because when they were at the record show in Moline a few weeks ago, they gave us hope that they would have a great selection at great prices. They did have small $1 record selection but the majority of the stuff was way overpriced….I can’t say enough how overpriced it was. I mean, seriously overpriced. I’m not sure how they stay open but good for them, I guess. Maybe they haven’t gotten the memo yet that these are tough times and not everyone makes the same kind of money as Cheap Trick (since they are from Rockford). Will we be back? Absolutely not!
Shocked that there wasnt much stock in pop culture
The “shock” was the prices

Awesome, a Rockford area gem for decades. Just wish they had a bigger section for old tabletop RPGs.
Very pricey but the albums are in great shape stero equipment overpriced most albums are new and 30$ and up cds overpriced as well books again overpriced don’t bother asking for help you’ll get if we have it it will be somewhere over there good selection though cassette are good selection
Nice selection of stuff, but the cashier was rude and my movies are glitching.
Prices are way too high. And do not give discounts to veterans.
