Michael is a pro. He help rebuild my 1971 Fender Twin with professionalism and technical expertise. I always felt confident I could trust his advice. He treated my aged Amp like a vet would treat a puppy. He gave me advice to get my 1968 Rickenbacker 330 12 back in the game.
My hunt for a tech comes to an end after meeting Mike. The combination of his expertise, experience, and his prices will have me coming back for more work. And he’s a cool and nice guy to top it all off. All in all, great experience, rewired my guitar and did a set up with a quick turnaround!
Great guys, fantastic business practices. Love the quality of products and dont even get me started on the music. Out of this world. Would give 100 stars if possible.
7. Trader Jon’s
Address: 1514 N Cedar Lake Rd, Round Lake Beach, IL 60073 , Round Lake Park , Illinois , United States
Had an awful experience at another store trying to buy a stereo for my brother. Went to trader jons and didn’t know much about stereo’s. He gave me free lessons and found the perfect one for him. When my brother received it he said it was amazing!
Trader Jon’s is terrific! Great selection and reasonable prices!
loved stopping in! they have quite literally everything from swords, to old game consoles and games, to game boards, you name it. the owners are so nice and helpful! ended up leaving with an N64, some controllers and games ☺️ 10/10 would come again.
nice, well organized, clean place… staff was pleasant and up front.
10 dollar minimum with debit.
Owner is very pushy trying to sell you things. After repeatedly telling him “no thanks” he just kept on bullying.
After purchasing my strings, and the very moment the door began to close behind me I heard the owner verbally insult me behind my back.
It was last month. Don’t remember what exactly was said.
Avoid shop owner.
But, despite my bad experience they do have a decent selection of guitar strings.
Beware: Don’t purchase anything from this establishment. I live in Waukegan and traveled 35 minutes with my baby to purchase a portable DVD player because it’s easier using a player in the car when we travel. I purchased a portable DVD player that didn’t work. I called before I traveled there to tell them the a player isn’t working and the gentleman stated he was sorry to bring the unit in and maybe give store credit if it doesn’t work. I said ok ill be there within the hour. Upon my arrival a gentleman said let me take a look at it Then tried to fix it buy air blowing air sticking a pen and some silver knife instrument inside the player. He stated yeah, it doesn’t work. So, he declare it broken not playable. He didn’t offer money back or store credit the gentleman stated he can give me a few bucks off another merchandise purchase I said I really wanted the player now I don’t know how much more damage you did by trying to fix it. I said let me look around. Trying to work with the establishment so I found a 20 yr old music CD player I said I can trade he said no I can give that to you for 14 dollars so stated I paid 26.00 for a broken portable DVD player and 14 dollars for that cd player so that’s like 40. Dollars for a zenith player. I was upset. I said just give me the broken unit back.
Now, a single mom watching her pennies is out 26 dollars and so is my baby with no DVD player.
This establishment is unreliable for truth and understanding toward it’s customers. Please if you purchase a product get a terms of agreement policy. I got nothing no receipt and no terms of return policy.
SHADY SHYSTERS!
Way over priced on almost everything I looked at a Sony stero and bought a new one the same thing for 20$ more then his used price
8. Illinois Media Group
Address: 24250 W Townline Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030 , Round Lake Park , Illinois , United States
Good selection if Mexican bread. Have good bolillos and torras, also sell cakes which I haven’t tasted yet. They have decent tamales.
Vast selection of baked goods! Many traditional Mexican favorites, made to order cakes, and specialty items on the weekends.
Very good staff, very helpful finding cakes. Also very fresh bread and pastry.
Well, generally, I love La Luz’s tamales and they are my number one place to go to but in the recent weeks the quality for Tamales has definitely taken a turn for the worse. For example, I have a photo of a Raja tamale there’s zero cheese, and this happened last time as well. I definitely did not order a Maza tamale.
Talvez el pan esta bueno pero la atencion muy mala todos loa empleados estan siempre en el cell
All of the enclosed cases were pretty empty. The only selection was on the cooling racks in the middle of the store, which isn’t very sanitary considering there’s nothing protecting them from everyone around. They’re just sitting out in the open on rolling racks with trays in the middle of the bakery . I bought some tamales and called it a day.

11. Brothers Barber Shop
Address: 226 E Main St #1, Round Lake Park, IL 60073 , Round Lake Park , Illinois , United States
Amazing, took my guy to get his beard shaped and light hair trim and came out looking sharper than ever. Call ahead and make an appointment tho. Or call to see if they can take you in right right away.
Felipe does the best job for my boys! All their friends are totally jealous of their hair!
Brothers Barber Shop is a true gem. I was given one of the best haircuts I’ve ever received! I will most definitely be back.
Appointment only call ahead usually very busy parking is also a slight struggle
Small area, kept clean, they do good jobs on fades!
Decent cut, but not worth the 35 bucks for just the cut, other places do 30 for cut and brows.
Do not go here! I was a walk in and they said they only take appointment. I scheduled an appointment for later that day, showed up at my appointment and he said he was double booked and i had to come back. I wont be going back.
Fiancé was there for 2 hours with an appointment and he came home mad. Asked the guy 3 times to fix it. They can’t even do a simple fade at this shop! He’s uneven and paid 40$ for it.
Had to wait 1hour and 30min they have real bad service i also made an appoinment and still waited that long bad buisness never going again
All three of my children have taken lessons at the Bajon Piano Studio and have had a wonderful experience. This community is truly fortunate to have the talent and knowledge that Ms. Bajon offers. She is a classically trained pianist who has dedicated her life to educating students. She brings so much to the lesson beyond simply playing notes. She teaches them about the composer, the time period during which it was written, and what the composer was trying to express. She truly goes above and beyond a normal piano lesson. If you’re serious about your child’s music education, look no further than the Bajon Piano Studio. Ms. Bajon is fantastic!
Mrs Bajon is extremly professional and knowledgable teacher. She creates friendly and inspiring environment and has a great communication skills. Mrs. Bajon not only teaches piano skills but also how to be patient and stay dedicated. Her individual approach makes my daughter work harder to achieve her goal. I would strongly recommand her as a teacher!
My daughter has been with Ms. Bajon and Bajon Studios for 3 years now. Ms. Bajon has been a tremendous music and theory teacher and mentor to my daughter who is now 8 years old. She enjoys her sessions and practice materials and has been telling me for 2+ years she hopes to become a Piano teacher like Ms. Bajon someday. I highly recommend Ms. Bajon for new students looking to learn Piano, music theory, and the proper technique to develop into a great pianist.
15. Neglected Noise Records/P.W Designs
Address: 888 E Belvidere Rd Suite 308, Grayslake, IL 60030 , Round Lake Park , Illinois , United States
Mike and Calvin play the instruments they repair! They know what the instrument should do and repair or tune it accordingly. Great place with an honest business mindset and a fair price!
Mike did an amazing job restoring my 20+ year old alto sax that I let sit idle for 10 years. Now it plays just like I remembered and it didn’t cost me a fortune to restore. Thanks Mike!
Alway great serive great store
From the moment I stepped foot into the store, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff at Mike’s Brass and Woodwind were not only knowledgeable but also genuinely passionate about music. Their dedication and expertise were evident in every interaction, making my experience truly memorable.
What sets Mike’s Brass and Woodwind apart from other stores is their commitment to personalized service. The staff took the time to understand my specific requirements and guided me in choosing the perfect instrument that matched my skill level and musical preferences. Their attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile made a world of difference in my decision-making process.
Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised by the store’s dedication to ensuring the instruments are in top-notch condition. Each instrument was meticulously maintained and showcased its true potential. The store also provides a wide range of accessories and spare parts, ensuring that musicians have everything they need to enhance their playing experience.
The combination of a welcoming ambiance, a vast array of instruments, knowledgeable staff, and a commitment to excellence makes this store a treasure trove for music enthusiasts.
We went to fix, my trumpet, they didnt, they actually made it lead to a broken trumpet, now we need a new trumpet, and we dont know where to go!
17. Starbucks
Address: 60 E Belvidere Rd, Hainesville, IL 60030 , Round Lake Park , Illinois , United States
Male Barista suggested a strawberry lemonade refresher, it was great!
Mui delicioso
Employee were scrambling to get the order, got my order wrong twice. !
Very friendly, prompted service
Not nearly as busy on a Saturday morning as the one in Grayslake on 120. The store personnel was friendly and engaging.
Tastes like water!
Not a fan, slow
The girl working the drive thru window on Saturday, 10/17/15 at approximately 3 p.m. was rude and unprofessional. My order was incorrect and when I told her, without saying one word, she took it back fixed it and then shoved it at me. Lastly, she forgot one item on my order and when I asked for it she acted like I was wrong. There was no apology. She clearly should not be working the drive thru or with the public for that matter. I think she needs to be retrained with an emphasis on customer service. With two other Starbucks locations nearby, I will most likely not be going back to the Hainesville location.
18. Chapin Jazz Studio | Chapin Jazz X-tet
Address: 146 Center St Ste 4, Grayslake, IL 60030 , Round Lake Park , Illinois , United States
This little place is a gem to any serious musician. Top of the line gear in stock, and inventory and prices you would never find at a large retail chain.
Fantastic fast service on my broken Gibson classic, which had a severed head for the 2nd time. I would argue that the finish is cleaner and smoother than the fix previously, and the playability was just like new.
They also have an impressive set of gear from tube amps, used stuff, and even a crazy Dean flying V looking thing that I can’t wait to wail on next time I stop in for some gear.
Lastly, my toddler thanks the fine maestros at the store for not calling the cops on her for walking out with about 10 packs of strings without anyone knowing (obviously returned).
5+ stars
We first visited Dr. Wood’s Guitar Emporium a couple weeks ago to bring in a couple of electric guitars we needed repaired and also to inquire about renting an acoustic guitar for my 9 year old son’s lessons. We were so impressed by the care and attention we received and how knowledgeable Riley was when he gave suggestions. We were in a couple days later and saw Jeff who was equally as knowledgeable and attentive. We went back today to replace a broken string and again were greeted by Buddy and Riley who replaced our string. Everyone went out of their way to help and was so kind! Buddy even showed my boys a few tips on playing the drums!
I highly recommend Dr. Woods Guitar Emporium! Great place! Wonderful people!
Very friendly, asked for advice on a project gave great direction. I will definitly come back to give them my business.
A very helpful and knowledgeable staff. A relaxed atmosphere with some really great looking guitars.
Buddy is an expert musician. His advice, insights, and customer service are worth the visit. I support this local shop because they offer value that I can’t get from the web or a large chain.
I called 45 minutes before they closed and was there about 25 to 30 minutes before they closed to get a guitar pick the lady with a dog looked at me walking out locked the door and got into her car and left mind you there was still about like I said 25 to 30 minutes left so if you’re gonna close at 8:30 put it on your page on Google that closing is at 8:30 and I’m still gonna buy a pick tomorrow because you’re the closest but that will probably be the last time I’m there and I will be returning the saxophone either Friday or the third
I debated posting a review or not, but I think I should if it’ll keep someone from having a bad experience. First off, the employees are super kind people. Couldn’t be happier with the staff. But unfortunately the work I received on my guitar was really poor. Took a guitar there, first time bringing them one of my instruments. Was told I could expect a turnaround in under a week. Ended up waiting almost 2 months. Honestly not a big deal, happens a lot with instrument repair. Got the guitar back. Took it out to play it and the truss rod cover is missing. Find it in the case and put it on. Turn the volume knob, it falls off. Have to spread the top of the pot and reinstall it. Start playing and there’s a weird oscillating noise from the amp. Find the output jack totally loose, have to take off the cover and tighten it. Screws for the cover are stripped in the body. This is a new guitar by the way. Notice the G string sits higher off the neck than all the others, very noticeably. Figured they would fix this when doing a setup but I guess not. Had to file the saddles out myself. Should have just done the job myself at this point. Ended up taking the guitar apart to make sure the wiring wasn’t as bad as the assembly and setup. Got it playing good now, but after paying for someone else to do it and then having to do it myself, it wasn’t worth it. I figured the extra time taken would have meant it was 100% ready to go when they called but apparently not. This was a mid range guitar so I’m not terribly upset about it, but if it was something really nice I would have definitely been upset. Take this into consideration before dropping off your favorite axe. Hope they learn to slow down and do quality work.
Its a long story. In the end it was a bad experience.
I think if I didn’t check up with them things could have been much worst.
I’m not doing any business with them and advise the same.
20. Bustos Tattoo
Address: 1421 N Cedar Lake Rd, Round Lake Beach, IL 60073 , Round Lake Park , Illinois , United States
I’ve got 2 tattoo there , the work is beyond words ,the lettering , Color is so deep that the first one is over 10 yea r so old /& is real bright ,people love too
Great communication with the artist, got my rough sketch drawn up and appointment made in one day.
Went in scheduled an appointment and was able to get in soon after. Super friendly atmosphere. Jose Unzueta did a great job with my tattoo and I couldn’t be happier.
I went to Bustos a few years back and received my first tattoo from Oscar… It was 360$ for a tattoo that I was told, by several other tattoo artists, that it should’ve been 175$. The work that was done at the time, I loved it. And I still do. But looking at it now, there’s so many blown lines on my tattoo, The lines are uneven and there’s even lines that are missed. The amount of money that I spent at the parlor doesn’t feel like it was worth 360$. And I feel really bad to say it, but I am sad and disappointed with the work that was given to me. Now don’t get me wrong, Oscar, is a great artist and a great person, I’ve seen the work he has done to my friends and family, and it’s beautiful. But for me.. I have been afraid to return to Oscar for a touch up because I am afraid that my tattoo will not be properly touched up. And I know my visit will cost me because it’s been well over 3 months. I want to be proud to be able to show off my tattoos without criticism from other artists, being told that I was ripped off and that the artist who worked on me didn’t live up to expectations. Sorry Oscar 🙁
Chill vibe when you walk in. Oscar is a great tattoo artist. Everyone is friendly and the tattoo’s rock!
It was decent not the best
Would not recommend
Couldn’t even get the guy on the phone to try and schedule an appointment.
I wouldn’t recommend getting any tattoos done by Carlos . I was told he was able to do straight lines, but wrong, he messed up and connected lines that weren’t supposed to be connected and made uneven lines . All crooked. Before getting the tattoo, we talked about placement, sizing AND even drew it out . It was perfect on paper and he even traced it and put it on me . But the tattoo did not look like what we talked about or drew out . Now I’m stuck with this for life and it wouldn’t even look good to fix . What a mess.
