My son has been taking piano with Kevin for years and they still like each other. 🙂 Kevin is so positive and upbeat, motivational and kind. My son likes that Kevin treats him as a fellow musician instead of just a student. Kevin’s love for music, especially jazz, has made a lifelong impression on my child. Personally, I love when they are playing duets together when I get to listen in. Beautiful
Diana, our violin teacher is so professional and very positive! She is patient and such a great fit for a student just starting out an instrument for the first time. I have also been impressed with our new piano teacher, Connor, my younger boys really respond to his teaching methods well!
Higy recommend. My daughter, with zero experience with music, has been taking trumpet lesson since September, and I already can see great improvement. I was a bit skeptical about ability how to learn to play instrument virtually, but her teacher is doing amazing job to get her attention. Communication with the owner and teacher is absolutely great, and I can only wish, that in one point , we all can skip virtual world and move to in person interaction
5. Kagan and Gaines Music Co., Inc
Address: 7655 Roosevelt Rd, Forest Park, IL 60130 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
If you are looking to buy a string instrument, you should absolutely buy it here. Unmatched service and maintenance at a good price. Best experience I’ve ever had buying a cello.
Fantastic music store with fantastic customer service. The administrative assistant is also very polite and knowledgeable! 5/5 would recommend for any of your musical needs.
I love my new Yamaha guitar! Jesse is helpful and straightforward. Helped me pick a guitar that I love to play. Don’t go to the big box store. Get a guitar that is professionally set up and plays great for the same price. You will be glad you bought your guitar here.
Really great staff, knowledgable and well stocked.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to justify shopping there any longer for my business because their three day return policy and extremely limited store hours make it difficult to get back over there within the period.
(I’m unwilling to pay a 20% restocking fee for unopened cables)
Hate to say it because I wish my business was going to an independent store rather than the corporate or online big boxes.
Nice and helpful staff, but they require you to give them your phone number to make a purchase. No thanks. Took my business elsewhere.
45 dollars for an on the spot (30 min) electric guitar restring, minus the price for the strings, is a little steep, folks. I appreciate the good work, but I can get the same treatment for a lot less at A Sound Education off Ogden.
I hate to agree with the user below who complained of a dishonest experience, but we are going through the same. I’ve read all of the other 5 star reviews and notice a pattern: it seems that for violin and stringed instruments, this is a great place. For renting brass/woodwind instruments via their monopoly with the school districts, they are subpar and dishonest. We should have just purchase a used instrument which would have resulted in us obtaining a superior instrument at, I am not exaggerating, 1/4 the total cost. We just had to call them to stop processing our credit card when we noticed we had been paying an abnormally long time on my daughter’s VERY USED, VERY DENTED saxophone (4 years!). We were “reassured” that, coincidentally, they were just going to call us as well as our payments happened to be completed. Yet they have no records of all the payments that we made, and are asking us to provide payment records going back to 2017 to “prove” how much we have paid in total. Luckily for us, we can easily provide them as they have all been made on the same credit card for years. We are also disputing the amount owed as our daughter’s original “nicer” model saxophone broke, was taken in for repairs, and she was given a loaner, student-model, older and dented sax. Her other one was never repaired and instead she’s just had this one forever. We were told at the time it would be “worked out.” Now they want us to pay the same amount as they were going to charge for the initial instrument to keep this replacement instrument permanently, as they also claim to have NO record that any switch was ever made or that the original saxophone was ever brought in for repairs. Typically, I endeavor to support neighborhood shops, but not when their record keeping is straight out of Mayberry. This is taking a lot of our time and energy to sort out, and we’ve ultimately laid out over $2300 to own an instrument that I have found at multiple music stores online for around $600 and under. We understand that renting the own is typically more expensive, but this feels like being swindled in every way. Extremely disappointed. My husband has been playing music for over 40 years – he also used to play saxophone – and his mother is a professional classical musician. He is used to dealing with all sorts of music shops and has never had an experience like this one.

Great deals
I have had some good service from them in the past, but recently I have had a few problems, but nothing to big. I found cheaper ways to get the same thing I get from here but I still come for them for repairs and such.
Cheap instruments, overpriced in my opinion.

9. Perry’s Music Center
Address: 154 E St Charles Rd, Villa Park, IL 60181 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
My favorite music store, and they are still in business! I’ve been shopping at Perry’s for many years, and always get great service. They sell and rent good music equipment and instruments as well as buy and sell used equipment! They are also a total music shop that gives lessons to new music students. I recently realized that the last guitar I bought was a pain to play (why it’s been sitting in my storage for years.) I was asked to play it and remembered that I never got it professionally setup! I brought it in to Perry’s and it was done in about 2 weeks, in time for my first gig with it. It plays so great with no stress on my fingers anymore! Best money I’ve ever spent!(and it wasn’t that much!)
I Highly recommend Perry’s Music store for all your musical needs!
Took one of my guitars there for the first time. Couldn’t be happier. Great work.
Went in there a few days before Christmas not sure of what I was looking for -just a decent guitar for my son. Rob (owner) took the time to see what was important to me and my son and recommended a few guitars to try. He also went into detail about where they were made and the pros and cons of the various guitars and what you get for price ranges. Decided to purchase and Art and Lutherie cutaway in bourbon burst and it’s simply fantastic! My son loves it and plays it daily. Both Rob and Jim (manager) were excellent to deal with. I’m in the business of teaching about building customer engagement, and these guys and this store has it. Thanks for everything. Curran
Very helpful and friendly guys here. Banjo setup took only a couple of days. Owner Rob Gurka and Jim Kraus gave me their undivided personal attention. I kinda wish I had more of an excuse to hang out and explore this place. I’ll be back.
has new and use equipment also offers lessons. Great place to start
Great shop for musical instruments and parts. Music lessons offered.
Wish I could leave a lower rating. We brought a guitar here to have some minor repairs done. Right off the bat it was an uncomfortable experience. We asked if he knew anything about the brand, he said no. We asked if, in his opinion, it was a nicely made or cheaply made guitar.. he said both.?? Then proceeded to tell us it was defective, even though he knew nothing about it, but he was more than happy to still charge us to do the repairs. He told us it would be ready in a couple days. Never called us. We finally called and were told, again, couple days. We went to pick it up and they had broken one of the pegs. Rather than replacing the whole set, or finding a matching one – since THEY broke a perfectly good peg – they decided the better idea would be to drill a new hole and put a completely different peg there. Even a different color. AND THEN CHARGED US FOR IT!! I wish we never stepped foot in that store. I’m writing this to try and prevent this from happening to anyone else. Oh, and the guitar was 10x better before we brought it in! Stay away from these guys!! I will say though, the kid behind the counter was very nice.
Never open for business.
10. American Music World
Address: 605 N York St, Elmhurst, IL 60126 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
Rick from American Music World moved an antique Parlor Grand Piano (weighing around 600 pounds) to my nephew’s house about 10 miles away a few days ago. Rick and his team were very professional, careful and nice. Rick called me giving me his ETA and was right on time. The price for the move was very reasonable. I highly recommend Rick / Ray. He knows his business.
If you need to consult with someone that KNOWS pianos, Rick is your guy! He couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful!
I haven’t purchased a piano here…yet. But Judy was a wonderful host and guide as I explored options for the future. She really took time with me to explain options and pricing, and to let me and my preferences truly guide the search. I will be back when I’m ready to buy! Thank you so much for the wonderful, personal, and honest hospitality and customer service. 🙂
GREAT selection of Yamaha , electric and mahogany pianos and , Miss Morgan spoke to…
They moved my piano. Got the job done but I am not totally happy about the move. They are not professional enough. They don’t have anything to cover the hard wood floor and carpet like the professional movers. In addition, the guy Rick talks too much. Will not recommend their moving piano service to my friends.
Horrible experience trying to sell them our grand piano. Rick was to come get the piano. He cancelled 5 times. Each excuse was more pathetic than the last. The final excuse was such a lie.
11. Cafe Mirage
Address: 9845 Lawrence Ave, Schiller Park, IL 60176 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
I have never been disappointed at this cafe the service the food and the management always a good time
First time trying Balkan food. If this is an example of foods from this region I would like to continue exploring. It was delicious and nicely presented. Service was pleasant.
Good atmosphere, a place for friends to hang out and smoke cigarettes. Food is subpar tho.
Good vibe, the outside patio is good for summer nights, food and service are decent.
My chicken cesar wrap was good, but service was slow. Menu prices seemed a tad high.
Not so long ago there were more choices for fans of Bulgarian cooking ,no more…..sorry next my visit in Chicago will be in Mehanata
I came here with a group of friends, we all ordered our breakfast and they took 30+ mins to bring everything. I was the last one waiting and when I asked where’s mine they said they’ll go check. Never came back, everyone finished eating and they tried to charge me for it even though they never gave me my food because “the kitchen missed it”. I left the restaurant waiting for an hour and not eating anything at all. this is the worst management I’ve ever seen in a restaurant like this. Overall, had a horrible experience and I don’t think I’m recommending this to anyone or going back here ever again.

Good
Just had the best fries ever! Thank you
Friendly service. They take a little longer on busy times, but overall great place.
Just Mc.Donald’s like every one.
Very good place for a quick bite
Cold drys and buns
Slow
Most expensive mcdonalds around. Had to wait for 2 double cheese burgers. Had to wait another time for a fkn big mac meal.
14. Evolution Music
Address: 2621 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
I went in to get some help deciding what guitar would best fit the style of music I want to play, and the staff was beyond helpful!! I got all of my questions answered plus extra factors to consider that I wouldn’t have thought of. Absolutely wonderful experience.
Everyone here at evolution have always been super helpful. They make it easy for you to trade in gear, and they always some cool stuff for sale.
Super awesome place! Friendly and helpful guys will help you get whatever you need! Highly recommended
Cool little used gear shop. They did seem to have some new items, as my friend purchased an amplifier. The employee was nice and knowledgeable.
Great service
Staff is friendly. Nice little selection if you dig around. Unfortunately they are not consistent with purchasing used gear. But always good for a trade.
Bad setup.
This place was a rip off. Purchased their 1 month 30 min guitar lessons on Groupon which was $60. I found it weird how Evolution Music was no longer available on Groupon shortly after my sons first day. Went before my 7 yr old started school and Josh still charged me the whole $120 without checking my Groupon and said we could extend his lessons for 3 months instead and was guaranteed my money back ANY TIME. A little later I started facing some personal problems along with my pregnancy and also my son was starting school. The latest lesson I believe is at 3 pm which was cutting it close. I asked for my money back and the manager refused. It really wasn’t even worth it at all. It would’ve been better if it was more than one day a week for a 30 min guitar lesson.
15. Music & Arts
Address: 1476 E Golf Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60173 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
Good service, good experiences. If you need your instruments rented or serviced, this is the place.
The employees are kind and helpful!
Had a great experience!! A kind employee named Maureen helped me with purchasing a violin as well as prepping my violin for it to be set when I practice. Will be coming again totally recommend if you are starting/buying an instrument.
Good customer service
Do you guys also have arranger keyboards?
Their phone and chat customer support service is terrible. If you need help with orders or billing you are out of luck.
Brought my Horn in for a small valve string that came undon. Cost me about $171! DONT COME HERE! very overpriced for a basic service.
16. Guitar Center
Address: 2375 S Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60005 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
Very down to earth people there prices I good for what you get and overall a very good place to take lessons and buy instruments
Extra helpful man working in keyboard department – very nice. I like this store.
The employee here went above and beyond for my brother and I. It’s nice to be given amazing customer service.
Helpful staff. Good selection of in stock guitars to try out.
Loyal to this GC, since I’ve lived in EGV since the 80s. Their wares & presentations have improved in 2020 and I’ve purchased some sweet guitars here too. Classy staff
Might be the saddest Guitar Center I’ve been to. Not very big, disorganized, and poorly staffed. I walked around the microphone section for 20 min and never saw an employee. Keep in mind this is a job that gets commissions. Usually they won’t leave you alone the first couple minutes. They did have the usual fare, just not a lot of it. Good enough for strings, sticks, etc.
Most of the staff was fine but I dealt with a rude team member
I came in 3 separate times and not one person asked if I needed help any of the times I was in, I was in the market for a mandolin and was looking to purchase one but I left after no one bothered to ask if I needed help which I did… I needed advice, zero customer service.
Bad customer service. Amazing teacher Daniel .. but they always forget to tell you when the teacher is not available or that next month clases are cancel until you show up and surprise they are not available. But they are good on charging your credit card on two kids lessons. Very Disappointed the bad communication after over four months on lessons not getting better.
17. Aloha City Ukes
Address: 4338 Regency Dr, Glenview, IL 60025 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
A class organization that is going to make sure you’re happy.
I got a ukulele that had a very small imperfection in it. I was unable to exchange it for another one because, as luck would have it, that model had become discontinued. Rather than take a discount, I returned the 1st ukulele for a Kala KA-SCAC-T8 Tenor 8 String. It arrived in immaculate condition and was setup perfectly. Matt was very professional, patient and understanding throughout the whole process. I’m extremely happy with my new ukulele and Aloha City Ukes and I highly recommend you check them out.
Can’t thank Matt and his staff enough for helping me get my new Kala Elite KOA-CT-T ukulele. After searching several of the nationwide music stores online with no luck, I found one in stock at Aloha City Ukes. This was a big purchase site unseen (besides the pictures and videos online) and I was able to call and talk to Matt about the uke, ask questions and feel much more at the ease with the purchase. The ukulele in the pics is exactly what I received. Matt and his team were able to help me use 2 payment methods so I could use a visa cash card. Ordered the uke on 12/14 and had it shipped to me in Florida with no issues by 12/17 and had it in plenty of time for Christmas. The sound and tone is pure and incredible. I am very happy with my purchase and wish we had a store like Aloha City Ukes down here in Florida. I will definitely use you guys again and recommend to any uke players I meet. Thanks!!!
I cannot believe how fast you are! The instrument is beautiful and you are the fastest shipper!!!! So pleased. THANK YOU!
Bought my first uke here. The customer service was excellent and equaled the quality of my beautiful sounding new uke. Will be buying from Aloha City Ukes again. They also set it up.
This is an update add-on. Took my Lanikai Flame Maple baritone uke to an acoustic jam session last night (no amps allowed)and was floored when my uke could be heard over 5 other acoustic guitar players, Cajon and violin. Excellent instrument for accompaniment for my song choices. “ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE you are aware of their small timeline for returns. My second uke same brand but tenor turned out to be a bummer of an experience, plus I had to beg for a refund after 7 days. The uke looked like it had been strung with thick cables and looked as if it was strung by a child. I have NEVER had problems barre ing but it was IMPOSSIBLE on this uke. It was touch and go as to whether Id get a refund plus I had to pay $45 to send it back. Wont be shopping Aloha City ukes again. First time was a charm. Second purchase was a nightmare.
Got there 10 minutes to 4 but they closed early. I gave 2 stars for the online store.
Would give zero stars if I could. I’m very disappointed with how they treated my father. He bought a ukulele here to increase his skills & knowledge after a long & hard battle with cancer. The owner was kind during the sale, but his demeanor rapidly changed after it. My father tried asking questions afterward, such as how he could get the most out of his instrument.. to which the owner replies with “just don’t play it.” I’m genuinely disgusted to know that this is how the owner treats their customers after a sale. I’m in such disbelief by how manipulative and unprofessional this business is. I will be letting everyone we know in our music/ukulele community that they should never come here. I hope the owner learns to be kind to all after this.
18. Tobias Music
Address: 5013 Fairview Ave, Downers Grove, IL 60515 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
My Martin 2015 D-18 arrived this knk and it is everything you said it was. I could not find flag in it any where. The tone is just great. I am taking it to a jam on Saturday and them to another on Sunday. I plan to split my time between the Mandolin my normal instrument and the D-18. Thank you Tobias Music and I will recomend you to my friends
This is the go-to place for guitar set-ups, and I recently had a nut replaced. They dug through their stash of nuts multiple times to find one that fit my guitar so I wouldn’t have to have one custom-made. Their perseverance saved me time and money. Love this place!
Great communication online and over the phone. Fast shipping, and perfectly packaged. Will definitely buy another guitar from them in the future!
***EDIT***
So, I am knocking down my review from five stars to three; due to my most recent experience a couple months after the first one. So I reached backout to buy another guitar (place order) as I really wanted an AD22e or another model I can’t remember, but after confirming they could place the order I let them know that I wanted the AD22e and to provide me the full price so we could close the deal and they went silent, mind you I didn’t even get a copy of the receipt from my AD27e that never came which I had also requested from the last conversation.
I did finally get my guitar ordered but I had a national retailer place the order. I was disappointed I didn’t hear back from Tobias Music about completing the purchase and obtaining a copy of the receipt for my AD27e that never came.
** original **
Just bought an AD27e (Taylor) from them after finding it for sale online. it was a great buying experience. I’m a lefty, buying guitars online is the norm, and most of the time guitars I buy take a day or two to pack and ship. we had a few emails back and forth and they were quick to respond and very professional. These guys had it packed and shipped the same day, and I didn’t place my order until after lunch; that’s service.
They also took the time to dial the guitar in; it came with the action set and was tuned ready to play out of the box. Paul did a great job and really made this buying experience easy, and hassle free. I’ll have to check back often to see what other lefty guitar they get in. If I have the chance, I will buy from them again.
They are more of a acoustic guitar place not really a place for bass players .
19. Goodtime Music
Address: 3 W Streamwood Blvd, Streamwood, IL 60107 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
I was in town for a concert, and decided to stop by the store the following day. I didn’t expect a small shop OUTSIDE of Chicago to have such an amazing selection of high-end gear! I keep in contact with one of the guys that works there, and buy things online from them, and have always had a good experience.
Nice instrument Good .
I’ve been a customer of Goodtime Music for several years. I checked them out when I was just getting started and they gave me great advice and never tried to sell me more guitar than I needed even though they have top tier equipment for players at any level. As a consumer, I appreciated the straight talk I got from Pat. He sold me on his store as much as on the equipment. Hard to find that in this day and age of big boxes and faceless websites. They sold me a great guitar and I have used them exclusively for service and repairs ever since. Always friendly, always professional, and customer service is top notch. I also took lessons for a while and loved the experience I had with my instructor, Ron. I learned so much in a relaxed and reasonably-priced setting.
Forget about Guitar Center and Sam Ash. They have volume, but Goodtime Music is the real deal. A true store for players!
God
Really great place to find top notch guitars and amplifiers. They sell guitar parts, amps, lights, basses and acoustic guitars. And offer guitar lessons
The man I talked with there was very friendly, and extremely knowledgeable.
I had three guitars strung up with new strings before I moved from IL, one of them was a Yamaha classical guitar. I was having all my stuff put in a moving container right after that so I did not get a chance to tune them up for a while. Upon starting to tune up my Yamaha after I was settled I found that the high E string was not put on correctly, on the tuning peg and on the bridge on the box of the guitar. I found when applying tension on the string to tune it up, first it was slipping on the peg then it popped through the bridge hole. It turns out there was only one small knot made at the bottom of the string. For so called professionals, they don’t even know how to string up a classical guitar correctly. I should have done it myself in the first place, however I was so busy preparing to move I thought I would let them do it. Waste of money.
good place if it opens in time. 12 pm don’t hold your breath maybe 1pm maybe 2pm
Certainly not what you’d expect you’d paid for.
I had brought two guitars there. One was an Anniversary Edition SG with a Min-ETune (Tronical) robotic tuner on it. I bought it used and intended to keep it as a collector’s item. The other was a brand new Diamond Series C1 Schecter which will be a second issue.
I didn’t know what had been done previously to the SG, so I wanted a full setup. My strings, moving from 10s to 9s, action, intonation… the works. I’d do it myself but I don’t have the time. So I chose to pay to have it done. My regular guy was a 40 minute drive away and had retired, so I was looking for a new relationship with someone else that would do a nice job on my guitars and would treat them as if they were their own.
I specifically asked if they were familiar with the Min-ETune and how to string it. Of course they did! Bottom line is I got it back and thought I had bought a piece of junk because it just would not stay in tune. The action was fine so I cased it and put it away for safe keeping. I recently pulled it out as I do to clean, tune and maintain my guitars and reassessed what was causing it to not stay in tune. The E string popped out of the tuning post. It was not wrapped and locked correctly. Neither was the D string and this after I was told they knew all about the Mini-ETune and how to string it. So I restrung it myself. I cleaned the fret board as is standard procedure in a setup and found the neck was filthy. There were string scars on several frets I had to properly clean as well. See the picture. “Seriously?” They didn’t even clean it.
After I did it myself it stays in tune perfectly as I expected it would. I’m not even going to bother checking intonation on it. I’m sure it isn’t there.
They were nice to me and all but must have made the assumption that I was not any kind of musician or guitar tech and that I would not recognize that there was no true setup done on this at all.
I would have taken it back to them, and I’m sure they would have fixed the issue. I’m sure that is what they would rather I do. But then nobody else would know the experience I had there or what to expect.
The Schecter? It’s brand new. Same BS. I’m not concerned about cleaning, it is brand new. 10s to 9s. Action is fine, intonation is way off. Only one string was almost there and the rest were not even close. I guess I will have to do that one myself too after paying to have it done.
Bottom line is that you pay for a setup and all you get is a stringing and action setting. Hmmm. In my opinion, not worth the price I paid.
Hey, they have a nice quick turn-around though. I can see why.
Sorry guys, but get your $#!* together if you want a bunch of return customers. These are a musician’s tools and expected to be in top condition. Honestly, I would not go back and would rather wait for it to be completed at Guitar Center.
Edit:
I know you would have done something had I brought it back. Should I really have to bring it back? Should I really feel the need to check the work that was to be done? Didn’t I avoid doing all that by bringing it somewhere? Should I pick it up to play it and everything above open is flat? I’ll admit being harsh about it.
Put yourself in my shoes and work on your guitar. Do you tweak the intonation or say that it is within 5 cents so that’s good enough? I really don’t care to take my guitars out in the elements unless absolutely necessary and wasting time and gas driving it back and forth is unacceptable to me.
Perhaps I should have just brought my tools with me and checked it before it even left the counter. Perhaps a white glove to see if the fret board had truly been cleaned and conditioned. But I didn’t expect I would need to.
I know that you guys have the ability and that if you have guitars of your own that they are tweaked right on after 25 years of doing this. I’ve been playing for over 40 years and I only get better at it.
If all the things claimed to be done were done, why did I find them to not be done?
20. Sam Ash Music Stores
Address: 1305 W Dundee Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089 , Schiller Park , Illinois , United States
Kevin was very helpful and provided great service in the drum department.
Close by and simply convenient. Staff is always helpful in the drumming department. Kudos to Mike (dept Mgr). Keep it up Sam Ash I have a lot of business coming your way as I master my drumming.
This was my second visit to sam ash, I just love this store Tod the manager is always very helpful he even took time to clean my cymbals gave me the time of day and a great deal on my cymbal purchase, even talked about drums and concerts that we attended I would highly recommend sam ash there customer service is fantastic and they have a great selection of cymbals and drums thanks Tod your the best
We were impressed with the enthusiasm, knowledge and service-oriented approach of the sales staff. The only part we didn’t like was the evidence of the sort of “would you like fries with that” sales training that has become so evident in so many sales situations. It’s OK to mention all the extra doodads that we might want, in case we really didn’t think of it, but please, don’t push.
Great selection, helpful staff, kinda expensive
Kind when helping me find a item and helpful with the questions I had.
Do not recommend to buy an electric guitar there and do not buy their service plan. I purchased an electric guitar there and ask them to set it up. When I pick it up two weeks later, the problems were not fixed.
Disappointing… Overpriced, poor return policy, high restocking fees. Better find another store. Look up the same stuff they sell on Amazon – always find a better price. Comparing with Amazon’s and other stores’ return policy, Sam Ash – outsider.
Some employees are nice like the guy in drums but others won’t even give me the time of day. I go in with my boyfriend all the time and they will talk to him but ignore the crap out of me. They kind of treat me like I fallow him and his friend around and don’t play anything. When in reality I play bass in a band and I’ve played a wind instrument for 9 years. Other than the guy in drums no one has ever asked me anything about music, what I played, or if I was looking to buy anything. I work in customer service and this is totally not how it should be done.
