I’ve only had positive experiences here. Everybody is very friendly, happy and knowledgeable. They have taken care of my instrument needs and the turnaround time for service is quick.
Great quality service, friendly and knowledgeable.
Did a wonderful job on repairing my trumpet. Highly recommended.
Fantastic friendly service at a reasonable price
They fixed my trumpet well. A probably what is scored 5 stars if the repair was the same day.
Mm masomenos
We came in to purchase a violin for our child. They had one in stock, but the gentleman helping us was unable to answer any questions about it and the other two employees working there did not seem interested in helping us either. Considering the great reviews that this store has, we expected our experience to be much different than this. We ended up purchasing a violin at another store where they had knowledge of the instrument and took the time to answer our questions.
The man working the front desk was not friendly at all. Never made eye contact. Made me feel like I was not welcomed in his store. He probably didn’t know was I am renting an instrument from him. Hopefully I will never have to walk back in his store.
Had what I needed but staff was very unhelpful I asked for help and it was not given to me so I had to struggle to find what I needed
4. Art’s Music Shop, Inc
Address: 4647 US-280, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Shelby County , Alabama , United States
Great store with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I always find out something new when I visit. It’s also nice that the employees are gigging musicians in the area. Would recommend.
Good. place to shop for all your. music. needs.
Very helpful and friendly
I called and they didnt answear
If you drop your instrument off for an estimate get it in writing with a signature from the manager that they will not work on it.
I walked in to pick up my trombone from an estimate, started walking out and was told I owed money. For what? I did not authorize anything.
It’s too bad this shop is the only option in Birmingham. Check out Bailey Brothers to see if they have what you need first.
No help prices to high
I brought in something for them to look at in January and it’s been 3 and a 1/2 months and they haven’t called back. I’ve called 5 or 6 times and the manager has been on vacation every single one of those times. They stole my instrument. DO NOT GO HERE
5. Bailey Brothers Music Company
Address: 4673 US-280 Suite # 7, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Shelby County , Alabama , United States
Excellent customer service. I worked with Gibson over six months in trying to find a warranty replacement, and within a week of Gibson enlisting Bailey Brothers to help they had my issue resolved. Bailey Brothers had a great selection of awesome guitars and were very helpful in picking out the right one. I will definitely take a look here the next time I’m ready for a new Gibson.
It was my first time in here recently and I had a pleasant experience. David made sure I felt welcomed and was very helpful in answering any questions I had. Overall they have a great selection and friendly staff.
The people at Bailey Brothers are so nice and helping people
It was my first time in the store and I had an excellent experience. David was very helpful and friendly as well as the other staff present. The online site lacks a lot of the guitars they have in stock because they get new guitars a lot so I would advise actually going into the store to see their wide selection.
Great customer service. Great selection. However, I was NOT thrilled to see their logo custom printed onto the snare head I bought. Would have received 5 stars if not for that. Going to remove it with some acetone.
This place is awesome, need customer service? DONE! Need a repair? DONE! Need to place an order? DONE! The only thing I did not like was the lack of extended range instruments. You will not be finding fanned fret, 28 fret, tap guitar, etc. You want those go to WARR guitars or order them off of a musicians website.
I explained to them thoroughly what I needed and they sold me the opposite! It all about sells and f**k the customers needs! Stay away from the southside location!
I came in here the other day and they were incredibly overbearing and checked in on me every 30 seconds. From the second I walked in they were all up in my face and insisted on providing an address and phone number whenever I paid which I fully expect to be sold somewhere. I don’t know if they’re struggling to keep the lights on or something but the amount of customer service was way too much and came across as pushy and rude. Literally just let me shop.
Waited 15 minutes for someone to help me but instead was ignored. Ended up leaving empty handed. I literally just needed drumsticks and the person at the front was aware. Will never go back.
6. Forbes Organ Co

Fairly nice selection of acoustic guitars. Friendly staff and clean store.
Home away from home
They didn’t have what I went there for
Amazing staff
Good
I guess they do not care about selling guitars at this location. I just walked in to this store ready to spend atleast 400 bucks on a new acoustic guitar and I was not spoken to one time by anyone that works there. Not even greeted. The store had maybe 5 customers total in there at the time and the employees were just standing around talking to each other by the counter or playing the guitars themselves. They will not get my money. Not that they care. Going somewhere else.
Limited selection amps and guitars. Dissapointed. Went in to buy. Should have known better when I pulled up and 2 employees are out front smoking and no customers in the store.
Update, a year later…My brother decides, against my advice, to give this GC another chance. He needed one very simple thing done, with a simple allen key… The guitar tech and a manager decided they would throw the review back into his face.
YOU DO REALIZE THAT RETALIATING AGAINST A CUSTOMER FOR A REVIEW IS ILLEGAL AS OF JANUARY 2017, RIGHT? ….thanks to a law signed by Pres. Obama. I guess he did one thing right…
Old review: After being in this store, seeing how other customers like my brother is treated, I can’t justify buying a guitar pick there.
When you take an issue to a customer service manager, their job is not to make cracks about politicians. Their job is to resolve issues.
A guitar tech’s job is not finished until the work is properly tested. If you received a working guitar, including coil tapping and bridge pickup working, then it should exit your shop with coil tapping and bridge pickup working.

Excellent customer service! They were so helpful with fixing my son’s guitar and went above and beyond to make sure his guitar was fixed and tuned! Adina and Tim both helped us so much and were especially kind!
Outstanding service, excellent personalities, and excessive knowledge.
Great place, super helpful! Helped me pick out a great Mandolin and even threw in a case!
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
Good product, Good service.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
12. A Piano Place
Address: 42 Shades Crest Rd, Hoover, AL 35226 , Shelby County , Alabama , United States
The piano moving team went above and beyond to safely move my antique Wurlitzer baby grand! This instrument has a huge sentimental value to me and I knew it was it great hands with Bill and the guys. Thanks so much!
Best place to buy a piano in the Southeast. Bill is the man.
Bill was informative, prompt and professional. His kind donation has provided our memory care community with a piano to soothe and restore the residents’ health and well-being. We are thrilled to have this gift of music and look forward to seeing the smiles it will bring to everyone’s faces. There is a special place in heaven for him and we are forever grateful for his thoughtful gift.

Michael has done a great job on all our installations and has just finished a repair from lighting damage. I highly recommend his work.
Expert acoustic advice and AV knowledge. Brings years of sound experience to not over complicate the experience. Great customer service.
Mike and his team are fantastic! Do yourself a favor and when considering home theater or AV work in your home, after you call all of the commercial places that send sales folks instead of experts, make a final call to Mike Panepento and talk to him about your project. He has decades of experience, does great work, and goes above and beyond simply getting a job done. He did outstanding work in re-wiring my home theater system in a minimally invasive way and then calibrated my entire system to a level i had never experience. Can’t rave enough about this company – truly appreciate the great work they did for me.
14. Highland Music
Address: 3000 Clairmont Ave, Birmingham, AL 35205 , Shelby County , Alabama , United States
Great place to find instruments and instruction! The staff are all knowledgeable and friendly. Good amp selection, too.
Harold is a master at wiring guitars up. He tops my knowledge in that area, therefore, for the harder jobs, I send my brother there. 🙂
You can’t trust Bailey Bros and Guitar Center in this town. You can trust Highland.
Great shop!
Got a good deal on a used Vox guitar amp. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I fully intend to return.
My kinda music store. Classic amps and guitars. Helpful staff
Gotta catch the right people in.. but good little music store..
Tried to get my guitars worked on here multiple times. First time was an 8 string, guy said “I don’t like black guitars they scratch too easily” and then rubbed a cloth with steel wool fibers over it and scratched the guitar. GEE I wonder why! Had a pickup swap done on another guitar, put a scratch on it that went through the paint. Not only that, but he took it upon himself to do a full “set up” when I did not ask him to now I have buzz everywhere and it plays worse than it did before, then charged me for it. Oh and the pickups are also out of phase. Sorry, but that’s it. No more chances. Goodbye.
Very condscending and not friendly to younger people. Im not a know it all but some of the stuff the man was talking about wasnt correct. Rather go to bailey brothers theyre friendly and very nice
I guess they have some unique items which is cool but the folks behind the counter really seemed like they were annoyed to put their conversation on hold in order to help me and were also EXTREMELY condescending and pretentious. I’m a fairly experienced musician and these guys spoke to me as if I was completely ignorant and always would be.
15. Lyric Partners

Shane and StickandStrum provides a great environment for learning. The staff are very knowlegable and know how to communicate and teach to various skill levels. I would highly recommend them for all types of music and voice lessons.
We love StickandStrum ! We love the teachers , the students , and above all I love what my child has learned in just a years time . If you’re looking for classes / lessons this is the place to go .
My daughter, a huge music lover has taken all kinds of lessons including guitar, banjo, voice and songwriting. Stickandstrum has such a fun atmosphere, she loves to go and she connects well with her instructors. I would definitely recommend Stick and Strum to anyone.
Sam is a fantastic instructor. Staff is awesome. Lessons are on the higher end price wise but you get quality instruction close to home.
Unfriendly and dishonest. Charges people, violates their contract, then refuses to adhere to the contract or refund their money. Be very careful.
I have contacted these people about the services i paid for which he is refusing to now agree to offer.
