They answered all of my questions and I am currently working on trading instruments with them! Amazing customer service and a calming atmosphere. I reccomend this business to anyone looking to buy a new or used instrument or instrument parts.
Best music store for miles…Mom n pop
Love it
Best knowledgeable music store around gv they will even let you hookup and play a toon to tryout equipment they offer lessons and have a friendly helpful staff looking to fitt your specific needs and interests
While it may seem like a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, the store offers a plethora of instruments and other musical paraphernalia. Music lessons also offered!
Yeah not too sure about that place I feel robbed every time I go in there, yeah of course there’s a lot of good stuff there but overall there wasn’t a chance for no stars they can have one I guess
Owners are rude
Absolutely terrible service. POOR selection of instrument strings (they never buy them) They’ve fired their most charismatic workers. The owner/”manager” will ignore you if she’s on the phone. Had an amp in there for six months that was more broken when I got it back, than when I brought it in, due to their “guitar tech” Steve. Worst music store in North California, if I could give zero stars I would.

Your store helped me out at a time when I needed it most. You helped my family avoid some minor heartache that meant more than you’ll ever know. Thank you. This is a small business owner that deserves every bit of business this community can give.
This is a well kept little business. The owner is a nice man generous with his time and expanse of knowledge. I recommend this place.
Jake was awesome, sold me a great used guitar at a very fair price and it’s keeping me great company in this quarantine! Thanks Split Rock! 10/10 would recommend
Looks real nice from the outside (didn’t get a chance to go inside). It sells music instruments. Saw some nice ukeleles from the window. It has a rock music school also. And i think the owner has a nice looking fluffy big dog
Local Store can save me time and support is always right here in Town!
This store has great regional/ethnic items including musical instruments at different budgets. Very welcoming staff. We found fun odds and ends and will definitely be back. The gentleman was kind enough to demonstrate playing a couple instruments to my 6 year old who loved it. Lots of jewelry, beads/prayer bead strings, music, doodads, incense, clothing, and so many things to look at.
What a wonderful place ❤
Nice shop with so many colorful and unique items. The shop owner was incredibly kind. Must go when visiting Nevada City imo.
Bought a MF DOOM 12″ for my daughters first record. Nice small collection of books and vinyl downstairs.
Take good care of this place Truckee.
Stopped by while in Truckee. Main floor is a bookstore and then downstairs is the record store. It’s a large room built out of mortar and rock from when this was a grocery store long ago. Great selection of records, had a few I had never seen before. Walls are covered in tons of interesting posters and memorabilia. Staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful.
First of all, the places looks awesome. Records are stored in the basement. However, the selection was limited and hardly had used records. Plus it was extremely expensive. Bought something in the book store on the ground floor where staff was polite but also giving a feeling they had some aliens at the counter, which to a degree was not entirely untrue,,,
Rene was so kind and helpful. The vibe is impeccable. And most importantly, the jam sessions are such a great chance for the community to combine resources and love and friendship and make beautiful music!
I called on the phone asking about guitar slides to use for my uke and when I arrived the owner Renee had a full selection of different slides laid out to choose from and made sure I left with one that was just right! She was super welcoming and had a very diverse selection of instruments, books, and other accessories thoughtfully displayed in multiple rooms. Definitely not your average music store, in the best way possible!
What a fantastic addition to our community of musicians! If you enjoy bluegrass, jazz, celtic or alt-country music, or have a desire to learn banjo, fiddle, guitar, ukulele, then stop in and speak with Renee or Don.
Not very inviting. It was more like the owners house than an actual shop and I had to learn the truth of that the hard way. All I wanted to do was walk around and look like I could in a normal shop. I didn’t try opening any doors that weren’t already open, yet I was rudely scolded like I was doing something wrong. I saw the reviews and expected much better.
If you want to go to another generic music store that only has ukuleles, go to this store. Workers tried to sell everything, and anything without considering that you might think everything in there is garbage.
Extremely unimpressed.
Was told there are not having jams right now, but they clearly are hosting them weekly. so as for being a community, that’s shot as well.
P.S. it’s spelled review. The fact that you decided to respond with less than proper grammar at midnight, and claim my “review,” is false speaks volumes.

Great place for music lessons, Cameron is teaching guitar and my daughter is turning into a rock star!
This store is a guitar players dream. It’s smaller, but has no junk. Even the less expensive entry level guitars are solid. The owner has managed to jam more than a dozen PRS, Ernie Ball music man guitars and many others into the space.
Even the cables and straps are top-of-the-line. No junk amps either, mainly Orange and PRS and Line 6– all of which are solid.
The owner and the other gentleman in the shop were super friendly also. The owner did wince a little when I bought the Music Man Stingray out from under him. (This guitar is beautiful.)
This shop is worth the drive for those of us in Nor Cal and deserves to be supported. When we no longer have a local music shop and can only buy things online, we’ll regret it. Shop locally; give this place a shot.
Cameron, the owner, is really nice and helpful, not to mention he knows what he’s talking about
Their music selection was a bit small but they had everything I needed at a very reasonable cost.
Did not have a kazoo
The line was crazy long and they were extremely under staffed.
DJ Rusty was an amazing DJ for my wife and I’s wedding! We gave him a rough outline of the mood we were looking to set and he filled in all the blanks. Our guests commented on how great the music, and Rusty himself was. Rusty was very easy to work with. We had 0 microphone issues for any of the speeches or the ceremony. Rusty showed up on time, and was very professional throughout the whole day. Clearly not his first gig. Thanks again!
What can I say about Isaac? Isaac is one of the most genuine human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. Isaac’s heart is huge and he never hesitates to lend a helping hand. Our community recently put together a fundraiser to help {Camp} fire victims and I asked Isaac if he would consider donating a set. Without hesitation, Isaac agreed to play our event in an effort to raise funds for those effected. Did I mention he agreed when I asked him THAT SAME MORNING? Isaac is a godsend. You will not regret booking him. A true professional through and through.
Isaac was very responsive and professional. He created a fabulous, family-friendly party from one conversation about music choices. I would definitely recommend and use him again.
We just had Rusty for our wedding! He was very interested and communicative in what we wanted to be played and when prior to the wedding. We had asked country music be played at our resection/cocktail hour and it was not played unfortunately. We had complaints that he would not plays songs until”later in the mix” from the attendees. We were told by my husbands dad that he did not know what was going on and when due to lack of announcing to the crowd when first dance was along with when to eat. When the dancing began with everyone it was all “oldies” that we did not ask for at all. It was unfortunate but towards the end of the night the songs were more geared towards the crowd and everyone started to have a better time!
Wanted to share a story about this business for all those who are working or planning on working them:
Our original wedding was planned for August, 2020 in Tahoe City, CA. We signed a contract and paid a depost with like we did with all of our vendors. Once Covid hit we realized we had to push out our wedding and rescheduled it to August, 2021. All vendors agreed to push out the contract. We kept the same site and all the same vendors. In September 2020, we saw no path forward to have our wedding in Tahoe City because of the restrictions and all the uncertainty around the pandemic. Both of us have elderly parents who are vulnerable, and traveling is not good for them. We decided to cancel the wedding and have a smaller family only wedding ceremony closer to home and close to where our parents live. We reached out to our Wedding Planner about our plans and they were very understanding and empathetic to our worries. They began working with the vendors to get our deposits back or to see if they were willing to go to our area for our ceremony. The photographer and the officiant were willing to come to our ceremony and be part of our smaller wedding and we have reengaged with them on updated contracts. The florist, rental company, caterer, transportation service and videographer all agreed to do the right thing and return our deposits even though they had the same cancellation clause in their contracts as does Music in Tahoe. Even the Wedding Planner agreed to return half of our deposit, which we did not expect since they actually did work for us, because they understood it wasn’t right to keep all of it.
Bottom line is we never talked one time to Music in Tahoe. They never performed one service, not one thing for us. In all communications with them regarding the deposit, they showed little empathy or regard for our plight. There only goal was to not give back our refund. We are all suffering with the virus, but their actions are not only unethical and immoral they also show a complete lack of empathy. Keeping money for a service never performed or even started during the pandemic is not acceptable.
We would highly rethink any future business with Music in Tahoe. There are more reputable and honorable DJs to do business with in the Tahoe area.
Unfortunately your response lacks any ethics or morals whatsoever. You never offered a discussion or negotiation on giving us a break. You just said no refund. Contract notwithstanding in the current pandemic that is just not acceptable. How do you justify that you are the only vendor who refused a refund? I certainly hope that people can see through what you are all about. There are many wedding music pros in the area who would be a better option for folks.
