This small town music store has everything including lessons. Good people, it’s been around for many years.
This place is great! If you are here as a tourist you need to see this place. you may have heard of the new area in Sebastopol that everyone goes to pretend that they are 1%ers. If that isn’t your thing then Peoples Music is why you came to our little town.
They may have moved once or twice since I first discovered them in 1979. Ever since then, I have been going to them for my instrument and music (book) needs. They have stuff from all around the world.
People’s Music will always work with you even if they don’t have what you need now, they will get it. Once I needed a banjo when mine didn’t make it off the plane… People’s Music was there with a loaner for the night.
The current owners are related to the old ones so they aren’t going to poshify it too much (I hope). Thank you Peoples Music for being one of the few things that remain the way things should be in Sebastopol.
The owner is a genuine kind human being who cares about the musica and musician ship. I went in and was looking at some acosutics and he gave me a mini lesson for free and even wrote down the guitar tab for me. Most welcoming music store in sonoma county. They care about the music first business second. Three thumbs up!
Nice people
People’s Music use to be better, but it’s still a fine local music store for grabbing some supplies or renting a school instrument. It has the charm and “treasure hunt” qualities of a small-town music store, you can find a cheap guitar for a beginner or a full-on vintage Gibson SG, so it’s always worth a stop by.
Nasty and uncaring owners; Get music somewhere else! pointed out a safety hazard in the store, where someone could easily trip, fall and be injured. I suggested yellow tape. The owners got mad and told me to “leave my store!” Avoid these nasty owners.
Feels like they’re going out of business.
2. Speed of Sound Music
Address: 44A Mill St, Healdsburg, CA 95448 , Sonoma County , California , United States
I bought a Gretsch for myself, then a few weeks later I bought a second Gretsch over the phone. The second guitar needed to be shipped across the country and I was pretty nervous. Ron took great care packing and shipping. I highly recommend this shop, five stars!!
These folks were super gracious, friendly, and cheerful when I came running to them desperately in need of help with my equipment for a gig! Went the extra mile, this is a quality operation.
Great place for kids and adults to learn music.
Nice selection of instruments, especially guitars. I put some instruments on consignment and the results exceeded my expectations.
The healdsburg location is not really an instrument shop, they directed me to cloverdale if I was interested in retail and when I asked about information on lessons they really didnt seem at all interested in helping me with any kind of information. Wont be going back. The 4 and 5 star reviews on here are all over a year old.
3. Stanroy Music Center
Address: 850 4th St, Santa Rosa, CA 95404 , Sonoma County , California , United States
I take banjo lessons there and they give you a discount as one of their students
Easy parking lot of guitar’s and more stuff.went there for one item.very helpful sale personal.
Great guitar store.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff good selection of instruments
Muchos instrumentos musicales hechas en China .
Took my vinyage 70’s modified stratocaster to be flipped from a righty to a lefty and they didnt even flip the nut they just used some glue to raise the strings to make them fit. Seemed like they didnt care about doing a good job or doing the job right just to get it done as fast as possible and collect there money. Dissapointed because i always try to help local business over corporate monsters like bananas but even at bananas i feel like the staff is more attentive. If your a high class snob this might be your perfect fit.

4. Santa Rosa Music Center: Piano & Guitar Sales and Piano Movers Service
Address: 860 Piner Rd #28, Santa Rosa, CA 95403 , Sonoma County , California , United States
I had excellent service. The two guys who moved my piano were so competent, friendly and helpful. They did a great job in moving my piano. I had a horrific experience with another moving company that did not know what they were doing….and I have a Steinway Piano. I couldn’t have been more pleased with this company.
Great store
Great little music shop, I play guitar and ukulele and they have a great selection of both. Their customer service is excellent! Will be doing most, if not all of my business with them in the future!!
A lot of instruments, friendly staff. Very cramped space though, otherwise I’d give it a better rating.
I chose this establishment when it came time to decide where I was going to buy my guitar I had a good relationship with a former manager who sold it to me. I have been in and out of the store from time to time and purchased a few items here and there but honestly I was not happy with the phone conversation I had yesterday with whom ever picked up the phone.
He was very cordial and businesslike of course which anyone but expect from a well-seasoned established neighborhood outlet. I have enquired about a couple of items I needed to complete a project he said that he can order them for me but when I added I believe I can get them on eBay as well he said okay thank you very much and rudely hung up on me.I don’t believe that’s just because I choose to get one or two items from a different resource that I should face such reprisal and for this reason alone I will not return to the store and it really is a shame when you walk in you get that old time flavor that was so calm and many years ago. It was just not professional behavior and now my trust is lost. Sorry I just left this message by way of microphone I think it may be hard of hearing completely Miss worded the whole thing
He was a real jerk. If I never had to deal with this owner again, it would not be long enough!
The owner and this place is a scam! My father tried to purchase a trombone for his grandson’s birthday and he just got ripped off by this place! We live out of town, so my father tried to order and purchase the trombone over the phone. Not only did we receive the completely wrong style trombone, but we received a lesser brand that is only worth $600 and my dad paid $1,200. I have tried to return this trombone for a month only to be hung up on, told to call back later because they are in the middle of moving a piano and then for their phone to be “out of service.” I made a last ditch effort again by calling this morning only to have the owner tell me that a refund “Isn’t going to happen!” And then be hung up on. My 84 year-old father is out $1,200.00 and we have a horn that is worth only half of that value. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE!!!! You will be sorry. My father taught music for over 30 years and has never dealt with a more unprofessional music store. I fully believe the owner knew what he was doing when he purchased the cheaper trombone and had it shipped to us. So he could pocket the difference!
This store is under terrible management! My family sold a beautiful piano to the store and the OWNER signed a receipt stating that he would pay us $1500. My mom took the receipt back to the store so she could pick up a check and not only was the salesperson incredibly rude to her but the owner refused to pay her the full amount. She could only get shake $1200 out of him. The owner is unprofessional, dishonest, and rude. This experience was the worst we have ever had to endure with any store and I hope this will serve as a warning to others to not trust this store. If I could give the store a negative score I would.
5. North Bay Percussion
Address: 930 Shiloh Rd Building 40 Suite 2, Windsor, CA 95492 , Sonoma County , California , United States
I hired them to do an event for me and the service was amazing, very punctual and very fairly priced. Will be using their services again.
Grant is wonderful to work with. They are incredibly knowledgeable and clearly value their work and relationships with their customers. Highly recommend.
Amazing customer service! Grant is such a wonderful business owner, and is incredibly talented! I’ve bought stickers and they’ve come in extremely high quality. <33
Doesn’t exist. Tried to find it in an industrial park, no luck. Tried to call, but there was no answer. I hope it exists because we need a percussion store here!!
I had a recurring issue with a guitar. Stars took care of it quickly and I haven’t had any issue since. Great work!
They went above and beyond what was required , friendly an knowledgeable
Like walking into forgotten reality, the store was quiet and empty at 11:00 am. After ringing the bell I was let into a mini palace of guitars by the store owner who was super chill and helpful. It’s been years since I’ve been in a guitar store and it took me back to a time when nothing else mattered but strings and wood and sound. The rest of the world falls away and I became emersed in what seemed to be a one giant guitar and I was a note in it. Another guy comes in and starts playing a Martin and a conversation of riffs tunes and melodies come forth as we marvel at a host of music over the last 50 years. Steve Winwood, Gerry Garcia and a host other l characters seemed to be in the room . The time dissolved for about an hour. Thanks for the flight guys-

If you’re looking for some assistance or direction, this is not the place for you. Person at the counter made me feel completely unwelcome. Because of his unwelcoming attitude, I did not want to stay in the store for another minute, let alone ask any questions. Five stars for the wide selection, zero stars for service.
Went in to purchase two sets of guitar strings. I got some cheap Earthwood strings which usually cost $8. Idk why they charged me $15 per set.
The owner is a nice person, but the employee don’t know anything about music and is rude, he obviously don’t want to be working in that place he just make me want to never go back there.
Well to be more specific, on Sunday I approached the place and was very happy why the owner had decided to help me even though the place had already closed, since I drove from Garberville to the place to buy some things. When I arrived I was attended by a man with long hair, he was quite in a hurry and with a bad attitude, I asked him some questions and the truth could not answer almost none, obviously he does not know music, and I do not want to be disrespectful by saying this but he at least should know what he is selling , he did not explain anything about the guarantee and he did not even give me a receipt, I made a purchase of more than two thousand dollars cash, and I think that any type of client should be treated in the same way, regardless of whether they are going to spend a lot or a little, regardless of being American, Hispanic or whatever, I probably would have bought more things but the attitude and the seller’s lack of professionalism is totally a disadvantage for the store. I think the seller could have a bad day, we all have bad days, but he must know how to separate his work from his personal life, I’m not trying to be rude but little details can make a big difference and I think it’s good that the owner knows that good customer service could improve sales, when you go to a store and they serve you with a good attitude, you can leave a tip and become a frequent customer. na[email protected] my receipt will be nice to my email thanks.
Guitar selection is OK but displayed in a very awkward and hard to browse way that was more work than it was worth. Staff was more interested in whatever they were doing with their phone than helping me and seemed annoyed to have a customer. I cannot recommend this store when they have excellent competition in the area.
8. Bananas At Large
Address: 531 College Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95404 , Sonoma County , California , United States
They were helpful and helped me pick out the right soft case.
Fun store
Great service, ample supplies, and good info on venues as well as open mic opportunities. Thanks guys.
Nice people. Good service
Dope, staff is cool too.
Bad customer service, but good equipment
Theyre called Bananas at large cuz it’s robbery and they’re basically criminals at large. Decent selction at outrageous prices.
I would like this place better if they didn’t try to upsell me super expensive guitars. I mean honestly I don’t know how this place is in business with these prices during covid. You would think they were for the people.
9. Luthiers Mercantile International Inc
Address: 7975 Cameron Dr STE 1600, Windsor, CA 95492 , Sonoma County , California , United States
Absolutely amazing place with amazing people! My brother and I were working in San Francisco and drove up there after working all night to try and be there when they opened. When we got there, we realized it wasn’t an actual storefront. They were very understanding and took our orders on the spot! Then after they filled our orders, they gave us a complete tour of the place! These are good people who care about the customer and take pride in their products! They have earned two lifelong customers!
great place, great people, great wood! !!
Each order I have placed with them has been dealt with promply and shipped to me within a week. Great products, good prices, and it’s great I don’t have to wait two weeks to have something shipped to me out of Ohio, I can get it from LMI here in CA and it ships promptly!
A chain is only as good as its weakest link salesperson PAU will take care of u
Order for fret wire placed on Tuesday, it is Saturday and still not shipped. It would have been nice to have been advised why it hadn’t shipped or when it would ship. Screwed up my finishing schedule with this guitar.
Good products but horrible website. Do not trust the website!!!! Call in all your orders or you will be sorry. Ordered services on a fret board thru website. They shipped without services performed. When I call to explain, they let me know it was all my fault. Poor response to a good customer.
I bought a fretboard and a wax and it was the most horrible shopping experience I had ever had. Upon receiving my package I had problems and I wrote to them and they take too long to answer so that in the end tell you it’s your fault and be more careful.
10. Loud and Clear Music
Address: 8000 Old Redwood Hwy, Cotati, CA 94931 , Sonoma County , California , United States
Great people… Great product selections! Highly Recommended
A cool, fun place, with a wide selection and knowledgeable staff. My go-to music store in the Santa Rosa area.
Cool music instrument store
Helpful service and some quality gear.
Great little music shop. Lots of electric guitars, sheet music. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, relaxed atmosphere.
They’d rather make $50 or so than lose a customer and get a negative feedback. Not sure that’s a winning business strategy in the long run, but best of luck.
So, I’ve been in here twice since I’ve moved from East Bay to Rohnert Park last year. On both separate occasions the staff watches me like I’m going to steal every item in the store somehow. Very, very, very uncomfortable to look up and have every worker in the store staring at you from across the room, yet not one word of helpfulness or a ‘hi’ or anything. I wont be stepping foot in ‘this boy’s club again’.
11. Albino Brown’s OUT-OF-PRINT NEW Ska Merch Picnic!!!
We recently had the pleasure and privilege of having Brendan play during our wedding ceremony at Bishops Ranch. He is an outstanding musician who was willing to work with us in selecting the music that we wanted played.
Brendan is an amazing Celtic harp player! We are so lucky to have him in the Bay Area and Sonoma to listen to and learn from.
13. Monrad Eric
Address: 7566 Eastside Rd, Healdsburg, CA 95448 , Sonoma County , California , United States
Curated selection of records and cute plants but the best part was the owner Chris! He was friendly and gave great recommendations for places to check out while in the area.
Hidden gem! Got these 2 fun records but lots more selection for classics. Chris has such good energy and knowledge. Prices are affordable too. Can’t wait to be back for my next visit to the US
18. Intimate Cello
Address: 17506 Summit Ave, Guerneville, CA 95446 , Sonoma County , California , United States
Ruti’s Cello combined with powerful soul transformational guidance took me to a very clear precise answer to an issue I was having. Her process she guides you through and channels frequencies to your soul specifically designed to awaken in you a greater awareness, more clarity, heart coherence and feelings of aliveness. I highly recommend this powerful experience if you are seeking guidance you have found the right attunement. This experience I had with the frequencies was soul uplifting and clarifying in a way I deeply needed. Her guidance and precise questions combined with the Cello frequencies was channeled for me and helped me access my own inner wisdom and arrive at a clear knowing with a challenge in my own life. The challenge then shifted for me immediately. I walked out of the experience feeling healed, lifted and clear. Thank you
