A gentle man that works there named big mike was very courteous, knowledgeable, & patient with my son & I looking for my sons first guitar, top notch customer service. Thank you
Guy in the Drum Department was very good. Eric Wagnblas Very experienced . I spent $300.00 and felt like I had a good Deal. My name is Darrell Pagano
I was a long distance buyer form the west coast. Spoke with the Manager first who was super helpful. He gave me some great info on the guitar I was interested in and willingly put it on a 24 hold without a fee. He also unexpectedly made the deal sweeter with a break on shipping. He gave me the name of his Asst. Mgr to ask for the next day. (Apologies to both for my lack of name recall)
Next day I called and made arrangements & asked about a bit more of a deal sweetener and they made it happen! Guitar got shipped and arrived well packaged and on time. The guitar (a Gretsch Professional model) was as described in excellent shape given its age and rarity.
Very, very happy with the deal, the quality of the guitar and the effort this Sam Ash store went to get the guitar from one end of the country to the other, just for a voice on the phone.
The reason I’m giving Sam Ash a 4 out of 5 is because my choice of items were not in stock.
I noticed an exaggerating amount of guitars and everything else but I headed to audio and it looked dry. Not many interfaces to choose from.
But Dan from Pro audio took care of everything and helped me place some orders from the store online.
Very friendly guy also extremely patient with me please give em a raise will you!!!
Naw but seriously the guy was very cool about everything.
Usually if I have to order something, I’d do it on my own but he was really cool about assisting me. Thank you SamAsh
Good store, they low ball on prices for buys thou.
Have almost everything a musician needs
Employees are not interested in serving customers.
A friend who had just purchased a few hundred there went back with a question about a necessary piece required. This young man in the store responded with do your research. Well I was thinking of purchasing a guitar but not now ….Guitar Center was much more helpful and nicer…I will be sure to spread the word
Used to be a great place to go browse.. now it’s like walking onto a used car lot.. within ten minutes I had 6 people asking if they could show me anything, one guy asking me twice.. I was only planning on buying a guitar stand, but was so annoyed I went elsewhere….
2. Music & Arts
Address: 378 Kelly Rd, Vernon, CT 06066 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
Went in with some questions about lessons and rentals. Ended up leaving Having rented a clarinet. The staff was very helpful, and answered every question. My son starts his lessons there next week!
Thank you so much for all your help.
Was a nice surprise to find a fairly well rounded store and staff
The Vernon Music and Arts store always has exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable staff.
This store is a good place to get music books for several instruments especially classical instruments that you can’t find many stores for. I have a violin and go here occasionally to buy books for cool songs. 🙂
Small space but with limited music supply stores in the area it’s good to see places like this still up
I had a dispute regarding an instrument repair. The tech did a great job with the repair, but there was a miscommunication with the store concerning the scope of work to be performed. Jed Weeks at corporate resolved the issue with speed and grace.
The in-store representatives are great and nice. But I am very much disappointed with the customer service representative and the supervisors. All of them showed rude behavior. I signed up for 10 months contract and during Covid situation there was delay in returning the instrument to the store at the end of contract period. But Music and Arts still charged me for 2 months on higher cost. Way above my 10 months contract. When I called the customer service, they were very rude and not showing any flexibility and care for customers. I wanted to do business with them for the next school year. But with these behaviors I will NEVER do business with them. I could not find anything lower than 1 star rating…
All they need is customers’ money… No care for customers… even in this COVID situations…
3. JC Music
Address: 529 W Main St, Meriden, CT 06451 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
Great customer service! Came in for a repair a month ago and the same piece broke again and I thought all hope was lost. I came back hoping I’d just be able to get my money back and left with a fixed guitar without having to pay again! So happy!
This is a really good local music store friendly and professional!!!
JC Music have sold my amplifier, clarinets, trumpet. They are very fair and courteous and works with you on getting the best price. I highly recommend using JC Music for you consignment items. Joe D., Cheshire, CT.
My grandson really enjoyed the music lessons and they are very professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommend them.
Would like to obtain some nice brushes and some type of top hat set used and very sturdy since I break percussion instruments all the time when I perform?
My son, Roberto Luis and Rosa live in Meriden. Are you far from the mall? I have spent a lot of time jamming in Puerto Rico to salsa, merengue, etc but my favorite is funk like Buddy Miles.
This was a horrible expierence. They need to get their stuff together, they had already-sold instruments on shelf. They had an amazing guitar sale and when I went to buy, it was already sold! They got my hopes high and let it down and I will not give them my money any longer.
Completely disappointed. I placed an order in store on a instrument that was never placed with JC music. The customer service was poorly displayed and the options they gave us was not acceptable. I asked to speak to the owner several times and would not get on the phone and made his new employee talk to me. I ended up going somewhere else that was amazing
Never have any of the literature or instrument parts I’m looking for. Took 3 months to repair a trombone. I tried to return an item and they wouldn’t give me back the cash to go to another place. The owner has blatantly disrespected my mother on several occasions and doesn’t have much knowledge of much of anything outside of rock music. As far as i’m concerned, this is the worst music store i’ve ever set foot in and would not recommend to anybody.
4. The Music Shop
Address: 22 Mc Dermott Ave, Torrington, CT 06790 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
Our 13 year old son has been taking private saxophone lessons at ” The Music Shop” for over 4 years, starting with Leo Liddle. Keith Wilson, a very talented musician took over as his teacher and we love his dedication and perseverance to help expand our son’s musical knowledge with the sax, while also making it fun. The expansion of his new location makes the updated atmosphere a wonderful learning environment, and also has great on site repair service.
Super nice owner. Shared his knowledge about local music scene and programs. I am coming back!!!
Keith took great care of me! I’m a beginner guitar player and broke one of my strings, had no clue what to do. I purchased the strings there and he taught me how to put them on right in the store. He even tuned my guitar, and gave me some tips to keep it maintained. Service like that is RARELY found. TY Keith!!
5. George’s Music Center
Address: 905 New Harwinton Rd, Torrington, CT 06790 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
It was awesome, and the person that helped us was very polite and helpful. We left the store feeling like we had a great deal and my son was super happy with his new electric guitar.
So excited to start learning how to play!
This is the ultimate local and online retailer in the business. George continually goes above and beyond any musical instrument retailer I have ever dealt with to make the experience shopping there the best. You can’t get the type of personal service and attention at any mega big box music store that George provides to his customers.
If you’re not looking to go too far to get musical instruments. Look no further. Expensive though. But if you don’t care about prices, go for it. Not much of a selection though.
Nice shop
Meh
This place is just awful. The owner is so rude to us that i will never go back. We rented an instrument from him because our normal music store didnt have the instrument and when the instrument broke he said it was our fault and that it wasnt covered and then bad mouthed our local music store.
After going to this place; I must say I will never go back there again. The owner is so rude and disrespectful. Its not even funny. The owner needs get off his anthropocentric state of mind.
6. Beller’s Music
Address: 881 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
Helpful, great selection, no pressure. Excellent local business.
A week before my daughter’s school band concert, her flute was suddenly not working. She thought a piece of small pin may fall off. Since this was my first time to do any instrument repair, we called Beller’s Music, based on its high review. The gentlemen answered my questions very patiently on how their repair works and said we can get the flute back in 3 business days. It was the evening after the big snowstorm, but we decided to drop off the flute at the shop right away so my daughter can get her flute back asap. As we entered the shop, the gentlemen knew that I just called and helped us promptly. He examined the flute carefully and saw that it was just because of a loosen screw. He fixed it on site in a few minutes, asked my daughter to test the flute, and it was fixed! He didn’t even charge us for anything. I’m very grateful for his kindness and will definitely come back for any instruct repair in the future.
Bellers music is family own and operated, what a great family to do business with. I truly love their customer service and how they treat everyone that walk to the store. I have bought a few instruments from them(bass guitars) and also they are my #1 stop for repairs on any instrument. Bellers have a great selection of accessories and replacement part. If they don’t have what you are looking for, they can get to you at a reasonable time and price. It seems to that they want to build a relationship with you before anything. AAA+++++ Business
7. Guitar Center
Address: 50 Boston Post Rd, Orange, CT 06477 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
The best place to get advice and talk to people about the same feeling of music. I really appreciate all the staff they 10 Star ⭐ to me awesome people.
Good
Great staff was extremely helpful, did everything they could to help me. Extremely knowledgeable
The seller’s are not to good. You have to wait I little for attendant
Was not happy my mixer on hold was sold…Was not told I had to put $ Down to save it… However Mike was able to find I another one in Orange CT
I love what they offer they have alot of pretty much everything however be warned do not try selling your old equipment here as they make extremely low and biased offers I sold them my Korg Triton and managed to get enough for new monitors. But they are knowledgable and can guide you in the right direction and as I said they have ALOT of equipment and extras suitable for any musician hobbyist or profesional
Hot tip (It’s worked on two separate occasions for me and, by extension, others standing around wondering if anyone works here)- Take whatever you need be it a return, purchase, or simple human contact to the back where the live sound, keys, and other digital items live. There, hidden, is a helpful employee.
So I was on the lookout for a nice acoustic guitar with an alternate top other than spruce which is my personal preference. I tried a few cedar top seagulls and a Breedlove hog top. After a long time a rep showed up and asked me what I was looking for and I said I prefer a hog top. to my surprise he said “oh yeah, those are bright sounding…” wow really??? he said he’ll be back with a few hog tops and I never saw him for a long time after which i left. It wasn’t a really busy day either.
This GC by far has the worst staff I have seen. They see you waiting to check out and no one bothers to come check you out. If you ask for help getting a guitar down they roll their eyes and act like they are so bothered. This is not all employees of course but definitely the majority. The large man with dreadlocks goes out of his way to be rude and unhelpful and The entire time you are in there he asked like he has better stuff to do then screw with you. I strongly suggest going to Sam Ash just a few miles away!!!
8. Middlesex Music Academy
Address: 440 Main St, Middletown, CT 06457 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
Yesterday we went in to rent an instrument for my 4th grader starting band and I can’t speak enough on how smooth and easy the process was! When we walked in we were greeted by Jim, who immediately knew everything we needed and even our band teacher by name (impressive!). Our son can tend to be a bit shy but the charm of this place seemed to make him feel right at home! If I had to I would say the whole interaction took all of about 10 minutes and we were on our way. Definitely recommending this place to anyone I know looking for help with an instrument, thanks again!
Great service, Matt and Jim and the rest of the crew there are wonderful.
The sales team made it possible for me to afford a piano for my son
I signed up for a piano lesson trial online. Their site is very confusing and it’s not clear if the lesson is in-person and online. I called them, left a message but they never called me back. In the day/time of the lesson, I called them 3 times because I was having problems to contact the teacher. The guy who works there, Jim, clearly doesn’t have any customer service skills. He was rude and unpleasant. He didn’t make any effort to help me, told me a was confused and nobody else had problems. I just canceled the future lessons there. It’s easier just hire a private piano teacher. Hopefully I will never have to deal with this guy again.
I paid $80 for a setup on a guitar and got it back with the strings a mile off of the neck and the floyd rose studs so high out of the body I could park a car under it. The bridge pickup was raised until it was practically touching the strings and the neck pickup was lowered to below the pickup ring. The tech then told me that 10-52 strings don’t exist. They’re light top heavy bottom and aren’t even uncommon strings. Every time I go there they give bad advice and clearly don’t know what they’re talking about. My friend tried to buy a tubescreamer (basic overdrive) and they tried to sell him a phaser instead (completely different thing).
I would give Middlesex Music Academy a 0 if I was able to. I called to inquire about a $150 charge when I haven‘t been confirmed by John the guitar teacher. I made a request to Matt that Tuesday was my preference but John was booked so he scheduled Thursday at 6pm. I received a text and email from John yesterday that he had a conflict for Thursday and offered Friday. I responded via text/email that would not work and inquired if this was temporary or permanent to which I did not receive a response. I let John know this may not be a good fit then. I called today to have the charge refunded and Jim proceeded to call me names, saying I was yelling & screaming over the phone and I was being rude. No need to go into the dramatics but Jim needs a lesson in manners, telling the truth and understanding that being a manager does not give him the authority to behave poorly. Never once did I raise my voice but did correct Jim several times throughout the conversation all because i asked for a refund. Extremely unprofessional and a bad look for Middlesex Music all around. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Inexcusable & theater worthy performance by Jim today folks!!!
9. Rayburn Music
Address: 22B Andover Dr, West Hartford, CT 06110 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
Very friendly fast and efficient service! I love shopping local
Very helpful.
Excellent Quality of both service and instruments.
Fast and friendly service
STAY AWAY from this company! I rented a cello early 2019. We returned the cello in Aug 2019 and are still getting billed for it! I’ve called and left messages since no one picks up the phone in the Milford office where I rented and returned the instrument. No call back and monthly payments for the cello are still getting charged off my bank card. Had to file a complaint with my bank to stop payments. Terrible terrible business practice!
We rented a viola from Rayburn. The first viola wasn’t put together right (something to do with the bridge). after switching to another viola we realized the bow doesn’t quite fit with the viola.
we rented from the music store in the center and it was a great experience but pricier. though Rayburn isn’t cheap either
they will be replacing the viola once more, lets see how it goes this time…
In store service is good but can never call the Hartford Rayburn Music. Electronic voice prompts to dial 0 for an attendant but when do so it says “Your call cannot be transferred” been a customer for about 3 years. Never could get done anything over phone. Have to visit store for everything.
10. Stewart’s Music LLC
Address: 171 Main St, Niantic, CT 06357 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
They are both really nice people. We have purchased instruments, books and other items for my kids music classes andboth owners have been very helpful. I needed to get computer microphones needed in order to submit homework online and I went with the idea of purchasing 2. They could have taken advantage of that and wouldn’t have been the wiser but instead, he convinced me that I only needed one. The instruments that we got from them have worked beautifully and we’ve had them for over a year now. My kids have been going there every week for music lessons and they are always very welcoming. There is no other music store for us but Stewart’s.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Have had numerous instruments overhauled here. They sound like new! Great selection of instruments and the knowledge and helpfulness is second to none!
Great service, wonderful selection!
Absolutely awful owners were nasty and they charged way too much for a simple repair just go to music and arts its easier and cheaper
Simple advise dont scream at your costumers to get business
Terrible customer service. Took my flute to get repaired and instead of just simply fixing what needed to be done to it I was told I shouldn’t have bought an off brand flute. This was all I could afford at the time (as a teenager). I am looking to invest in a new one but honestly it is no ones job to criticize the instrument I have. I waited for the repair to be done and called 3 different times on it. The repair person got sick which is understandable. When I called the last time they said it was finished and I asked why they never called me to let me know they said that I said I was going to come in regardless. Which is true. But still does not explain why no one called me. Overall a bad experience. Was treated very poorly and will not be going there again.
11. Connecticut Music Co
Address: Westbrook, CT 06498 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
I was looking to buy a higher end digital piano. This was the best instrument buying experience of my 65+ years. Grant and the women working in the store were very helpful in my evaluating different keyboards. They brought in additional keyboards more than once for me to try from the warehouse. I was not rushed in making a decision. Their feedback as to tone, feel etc were spot on. Great overall experience!
Grant did a great job assisting in a keyboard purchase.
Great people, extremely helpful and friendly
I whould l8ke to buy aking or yamaha euphonium
13. DuBaldo Music Center
Address: 881 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
That was likely the most pleasant guitar buying experience I have ever had. I could not recommend patronizing this amazing store more. Thank you so much!!
Prompt and professional! Recently purchased an SBMM Majesty guitar online and it came in perfect condition with Dubaldo only upgrades, Will definitely recommend them and will be making more purchases in the future. Thanks Dubaldo team!!
I’m not sure how long this review will be, but I will say upfront that buying a guitar from DuBaldo Music was a great experience, from day one until I took delivery of my instrument, and beyond!
I ordered an Alvarez-Yairi Honduran series (FYM66HD) guitar from Pete at DuBaldo music in April 2021.
For those reading this review in the somewhat distant future, allow me to set the scene a bit:
There was a LOT going on in the world during this time. The COVID Pandemic was still raging, and supply chains were snarled at every turn.
Ports were closed, dock workers and truckers were striking or working limited hours under delayed timelines. Parts availability was questionable at best, etc.
VERY long story short: The guitar had to be hand built in Japan, then shipped to the west coast, then shipped to St.Louis, MO, then shipped to DuBaldo Music in CT before I could take delivery. All the while, considering the conditions of the world as described above.
Pete, Lisa and everyone else at DuBaldo music helped me along at every stage, kept me updated, empathized with and tolerated my frequent calls for updates, contacted the distributor in St. Louis on my behalf, and were generally very pleasant to work with over a period of just over one full year.
I will not pretend that I wasn’t itching to receive my guitar, or that the extended delay didn’t bother me. It was a maddening wait!
But I want to make it crystal clear:
DuBaldo music did their absolute best to get it to me as quickly as possible, considering the extremely challenging circumstances. I can’t say enough about their customer service. It was exceptional at every stage!
When I made my order over the phone, Pete answered all my questions and made sure I was comfortable with what I was ordering as far as the specs were concerned. We made a deal on a VERY good price, and the wait began.
I won’t bore with the details, but between Japan and Connecticut there were numerous significant delays. Mostly unavoidable and one or two caused by decisions that St.Louis Music made, and/or failed to communicate ahead of time.
Pete and Lisa worked through all of this for me deftly, and professionally.
I am not local to the store. I live in DC, about 6 hours away. When the guitar finally arrived, there were 3 in the order, and Pete and Lisa let me know that I could have my pick of the three. Instead of having Pete play them for me over the phone and choosing from pictures, I decided to drive up and try them out in person, and drive it home myself.
Lisa and Nick were more than accommodating, and I was made to feel very comfortable while taking my time to decide. All 3 guitars were incredible instruments and it was a tough decision. Nick provided periodic feedback and assistance as I tried them over a period of about 3 hours. I never felt rushed, bothered, or unimportant. They made sure I was attended to but was not hovered over.
They knew exactly how to help a musician pick an instrument, and it is clear that they wanted to make sure I was equipped to make the right choice, and leave satisfied.
On the way out, as they knew I was a visitor, they even provided local restaurant recommendations, since I had mentioned that I was making my best effort to eat at great places while I was on the road.
I was, and am still, very happy with the decision I made, and with the entire experience of buying from DuBaldo music.
I cannot recommend them highly enough!
My only disappointment was that after a year of talking to him several times a month on the phone, I didn’t get to meet Pete in person, since he was out sick the day I visited.
Hopefully he’s feeling better now, and if I’m ever back in CT, I’ll be sure to stop in and thank him personally!
Thanks again to Lisa, Nick, Pete, and everyone at DuBaldo for a trying, long lasting,, but ultimately completely satisfying experience! The guitar is utterly amazing and will be with me forever, as will the experience of shopping with you.
Great service
14. The Music Score LLC
Address: 2315 Silas Deane Hwy, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
I didn’t come to purchase any thing but the employees were more than happy to show me their selection and teach me about the purpose of the parts on the guitars/bass.
Came here for some guitar strings and the employee was super awesome
I have been taking piano lessons with Gil Flores @ The Music Score studio for the past 2 years and have had an excellent experience. Gil brings a wealth of musical experience and teaches in a very understandable, nonthreatening manner with reasonable expectations and positive feedback. Relates well to all age groups.
My daughter is signed up for lessons and her teacher is great (I hear the others are as well). Just try not to deal with the guy that owns it.
Very knowledgeable and friendly.
Arrived at 10:00am (they open at 10am, but not today). I waited and they finally arrived. All I needed was guitar strings, but they had none. What a waste of time.
I tried to return my daughter’s Viola due to the school no longer providing classes. It was a total nightmare to get an answer in regards to my credit. They are very irresponsible and I am very disappointed by the lack of care towards my return which was even misplaced! Mom and dad are not helpful at all and he should really look at keeping them home, they make things worse!
15. A Sound Choice
Address: 267 E Main St UNIT 3, Branford, CT 06405 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
Buy local from an independent and honest retailer! Great to deal with.
My first visit to sound choice.
I had a guitar as a gift which was purchased from sound choice. My first lesson with instructor Kevin.
I’ve never played before he was great and I feel confident already.
Store has multiple musical instruments in it with all ranges of price.
They also modify and repair instruments.
It’s a great experience and well worth a visit.
Ken is a good guy. Store has a lot of character, loved it. This was my first time ever doing business here. I brought in two guitars for setup and a guitar amp that needed some attention. Ken got everything all set for me in a couple days. Talk about fast service with very reasonable pricing. Next time I need service or want to shop around I will definitely be taking a trip to A Sound Choice.
Ordered a guitar on Reverb and Ken always answered the phone and was very helpful throughout the process. I ordered a Larrivee OM-40 and it was listed as brand new but definitely had a dent and 2 scratches which was disappointing but overall a good experience with the process.
The guitar however has a terrible extreme buzzing noice, especially when playing on the first 7 frets of the 4th, 5th, and 6th strings…even when playing a single note and strum lightly…a terrible buzz. I can’t seem to figure out where it is coming from. I will have to take to a luthier which is unfortunate given that it is a brand new guitar. He did say he sanded the saddle down before shipping to lower the action, suspicious that is the problem.
Update: Took it into a luthier. The saddle had been sanded down, action too low, poor job with the setup. Had to build me a new saddle. New strings, and adjusted trust rod as well. Buzzing gone. Sounds and plays like a dream!
Very convenient
Cool little music shop. Worth going and especially if you need a setup on your instrument.
16. The Music Shop
Address: 405 Queen St, Southington, CT 06489 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
I’ve taken several guitars and basses here for setup and parts installation. The work is always top notch and they stand by it if something happens to go wrong. I’ve known Scott since I first picked up a guitar when they were at Caldor plaza (now Walmart). He actually helped my mom and I pick it out. I took lessons at the shop with an instructor named Mark right after that purchase. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.
My kids have been going to The Music Shop for 8 years and their experience has been flawless. The ownership and instructors are very professional. The instructors personalize each lesson to keep the kids engaged in wanting to learn and practice on their own. There is no other place to go, stop here.
The best service on the planet. These guys are like music stores used to be
Great place but website could be better such as pics of some used equipment. I’m a drummer and would like to see what they have for new and used cymbals, stands, drum kits etc. And prices. I have done business with them and always had a great experience the reason for three stars is the website doesn’t do the music shop justice. All and all great store great people.
The cellos were in not in good shape and we had to pay a luthiere to redo repairs that were poorly done when we received the instrument.
17. Music & Arts
Address: 50 Main St, East Hartford, CT 06118 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
I went to the East Hartford Music & Arts store upon the recommendation of a music teacher. Was in need of a saxophone repair to an antique student-level model. I decided to buy a beautiful entry-level professional model saxophone. The sales person was very knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. Quite impressed, and I absolutely love and enjoy my beautiful saxophone.
Great store. Great staff. Great deals. Awesome lesson program and teachers!
Good selection and price
Cool place, very expensive
I had been taking lessons at this location since March 2019. One of their instructors stopped teaching in June 2019 and took the summer months off. The store called me in August to say the instructor was not returning in the Fall and my account would be closed but if I wanted to begin with a new instructor I could. To my surprise upon starting with the new instructor, my account incurred a new student fee of $30 which is out of order since I am a continuing student; I asked the store to provide a credit and they recently did so. The new student fee is inappropriate due to no fault of mine.
Rented a saxaphone for 2 years. Summers were free. Returned the sax in the fall and was charged for the summer. 300$ which is the yearly rate. No notification or change of contract. Its a scam. Free summers not part of the contract, just a gift to you until you return it. Hours spent on hold to corporate as the local manager has no power.
I recently went to the Music & Art store and asked about my child’s school instrument payment plan. We leased the instrument two years ago; but due to COVID-caused remote schooling and summer breaks, there was little use of the instrument despite monthly charges including insurance and fees.
The store manager told me that I can pay up from lease to own, but refused to give me the payment breakdown, saying everything “in their computer”. When I asked for my contract copy, he didn’t have it. I remember the contract sent from the school was very complicated with different group plans and unfamiliar billing terms, and the store ended up filling up the paperwork over the phone for us. The contract has carbon copies and the store told us they would send us our copy but never did. Now they were telling me that they didn’t have the original copy of the contract for me either.
I decided to pay up the rest to own the clarinet. Just be aware that the receipt won’t have details of what portion is for the instrument and what is for insurance and fees, and no information about the original price and the final total payment. I ended up paying more than $200 just in insurance and fees up to now. I also found out that I had overpaid >$500 for a beginner instrument that the store billed for an intermediate model, as I compared the market price for my exact model. Since I don’t have the pricing info. nor the contract, I cannot really do anything at this point.
I have since found other online complaints against Music & Art regarding the rent-to-own school instrument plan. The lack of transparency and their practice of overcharge and under-report seem to be common experience of their customers. I feel that there is an element of complacency on the school and parents ends since the service is “for our children”, but where is the accountability?
18. Music Center of North Haven Llc
Address: 473 Washington Ave, North Haven, CT 06473 , Súria , Connecticut , United States
Can’t say enough good things about “The Musical Forest Cafe” !!! The food, service & atmosphere are all outstanding. I’m so happy to have such a great cafe right here in North Haven. I most certainly will be returning till I try everything on the menu.
Sincerely, Jan Milo
Mark is a very charismatic person who will go out of his way to help you in any music situation, from renting or buying an instrument, to lessons and more…
I want to give a shout out to the Music Center. My out of town husband needed to practice an instrument during an visit to CT, and at the last minute, the owner kindly arranged for a short term rental for him. During our pickup we couldn’t help but overhear the extremely high quality of teaching and student performance. Even more impressive was the joyful ambiance in this cozy, charming music store. It’s a gem and this community is lucky to have this resource.
Super friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Great instructors. Great atmosphere.
Great place. Definitely stop in.
I came in for my introductory ukulele lesson. The place was a mess. The chair I was told to sit on had metal pieces sticking out the side. The AC was not on. The instructor informed me he had been playing uke for about 3 years. I was charged $50 and it was the biggest waste of money. I was highly disappointed.
This is a review for the musical forest cafe. I wish I could have enjoyed the food at this place, but this business is a mess. I came here a month ago on a Tuesday and they were closed out of the blue, so they granted me a 10% discount coupon for my trouble. I decided to give this place a try once again today so I called in advanced, but no one picked up the phone. I then googled their hours and noticed it said they opened at noon (I tried calling at 11:00 a.m.) but that they were opened today. To be completely sure about that, I checked their facebook page that stated, in fact, that they were open. When I arrived to the restaurant the owner greated me and stated that they have been closing on Fridays for the past 9 months and that I should have checked their facebook page prior to coming in here (REALLY?!). After explaining to him that I DID checked facebook he apologized and said he will change the facebook hours for his restaurant and offered to give me another discount coupon. I didn’t even bothered to take the coupon and left very disappointed by the lack of reliability and professionalism of this place and won’t ever be coming back. Places like this just reinforced my belief that going out of business is a conscious effort and wouldn’t be surprised if this happened to this cafe in the near future.
UPDATE: To clarify, the small bag of “trash” was a small bag of shirts and pants that were out grown and not trash which the owner stated several times and now denies. He also forgets that I was sitting there in my car for several minutes trying to figure out what the poorly sprayed wording actually stated or if it was just covering up something and i even took out the clothes in the bag and showed it to him but he didn’t care and continued to argue with me. Again, I had donated to this location before it was deemed abandoned and was accused repeatedly to get my trash out of there. I did go down the street and donated the clothes to Goodwill. The issue I have is how the owner handled the situation and the accusations that were thrown at me even when confronted with the proof that they were wrong and I was clearly trying to donate a small amount of clothes and left when asked. Move this very prominent former donation bin to the back our your lot or put a proper sign up, chain close the handle or just politely tell someone its closed.
This music center used to have a clothing donation bin out front which I have donated to many times before. It has since been painted over with illegible spray paint saying bin closed. I was standing by the bin trying to figure out what the writing said and employee came out and screamed at me to take my trash somewhere else and was extremely rude shouting at me like I was doing something illegal. He told me to bring my trash to Goodwill. Would never bring my kids here for their music needs with staff like this.

Everyone was insanely helpful from who I spoke to on the phone for customer support, to the guy that helped me out when I came to pick up the amp in store. Giuliano’s Music takes care of its customers. Will definitely be returning for anything else I need in the future.
I went needing a pack of guitar strings to find out that they were closed. Their hours online say 12-4 on Saturday. Their door said the same. Lights off no one answered the phone. The time I went you ask? 3:25. EDIT:I have since gone back and they have been very nice and kind. Which has let me to update my rating.

Exceptional customer service. Had a minor issue and the owner went beyond to rectify the problem. Wouldn’t go anywhere else for my music services!
I have taken my woodwinds to Jon for years and will never trust anyone as much as I do him. He has a passion for what he does and a great attention to detail that cannot be matched. He cares about the specific needs of his customers and is very patient. Beyond woodwind repair I would trust anything else he does because he is the kind of person that defines quality.
