Had a really positive experience at this shop. Went in to have my daughter sized for a violin after taking a violin my dad inherited from his father apprised at another local luthier. The owner was very welcoming and knowledgeable while the luthier took his time looking over my father’s violin. Will be returning to purchase a student violin and to have my father’s violin repaired so we can see how it sounds.
Great teachers, fair prices. Scott is probably one of the greatest Luthiers in the northeast he will tell you exactly what you need. Or do whatever you want I. Have nothing but respect for Scott and Bob.great store I wouldn’t bring my instruments any where else to get set up (and Im very fussy with my gear)
I have taken my les Paul Standard, my old school Jackson soloist with the Floyd Rose, and my Taylor cut away, Scott is a total professional. He did set up an all my guitars and did a fabulous job at a great price and service.
I purchased four music lessons when I bought my guitar last April. The owner, Scott, did not make me aware on paper or in any written form of any policy about expiration of lessons.
I had two remaining appointments and I would have renewed for more. I never booked the last two appointments. Please see the text conversation with the music instructor. If I didn’t show up for a lesson, I understand losing an appointment but this is not the case for the two remaining lessons.
As a fitness trainer, I have clients who have not exercised with me due to COVID. I don’t tell them when they are ready to come back (a year later), sorry your training sessions at $70 an hour expired because of a policy I said verbally to you when you joined. This is not what I consider good customer service and not of honest business practices.
Any other music shop would do better than Bristol Music Center. Do not waste your money!

Quick and amazing service, good prices, and very friendly staff!! Highly recommend!
Took the time to help me out, even when he was really busy.
Friendly staff, great service, and fair pricing. What more can one ask from a business?
Great place. Very helpful
Good prices and service. Quick install of my remote starter and alarm
Called for a quote to install 2 front speakers on my altima. Guy who answered became rude towards the end of the conversation when I mentioned getting cheaper speakers on Amazon. Do yourself a favor, buy them on Amazon and install them yourself by watching a YouTube video.
No thank you
Does good work but will not answer his phone. Really fly by night operation.
3. Back To Basics True Value
Address: 31 Main St, Terryville, CT 06786 , Terryville , Connecticut , United States
Great store and good service. It’s great that they are a STIHL retailer.
They have a little bit of everything farm and garden supplies galore! Great people!
Good hardware store. Best price around for propane refills. 20-100lb tanks.
Great place, good service!
Great store for bird food, weber grills and parts ,local produce, fresh eggs
My Wife & I we’re attempting to put up our pool today. We noticed that we needed one small bolt to finish the job. My wife & I live around the corner and have always given this small business our money. However that stops after today. She left to retrieve this bolt 15 minutes before they closed. Apparently the young
man my wife initially met said that he had ZERO knowledge of hardware, yet he tried. He then asked a female associate for assistance and she shut them both down and said “ not sure, we are closing “ my wife literally had the bolt in her hand ..and all they wanted was too close..well u have now successfully closed any further business from us!!
4. Lee Hardware
Address: 171 Main St, Terryville, CT 06786 , Terryville , Connecticut , United States
GREAT little store! I am always amazed at how much they can pack into such a small space. They have absolutely everything…and then more! And it is so refreshing to actually have someone knowledgeable to help you out.
A classic old hardware store, including the classic owner to greet you and help you figure out what you need and how to use it.
A walk back in time. Where the employees know where EVERYTHING is located, and it is all in stock.
Many thanks to them for having oddball fasteners for my foreign motorcycle.
I shall return next year for another visit.
If you need it, Jeff’s got it.
Very friendly helpful and courteous
O. K.
The elder gentleman is so helpful but the other guy who look in his fifties is either developmentally slow or extremely rude. This is what happened : The elder gentleman couldn’t find what I needed and said probably the other guy would know where it’d be and asked him. Then the guy in the other isle said ,there it is and I asked him if he found it. He said, ” No. I found my beer. My beer is more important to me than you”. Well, you, the younger guy in that store whatever your name is, I don’t know if you always act like an adolescence but you should remember that I’m the one shopping at that store and paying you so that you can buy your beer. GROW UP!
5. Seery Strings
Address: 156 Summer St, Bristol, CT 06010 , Terryville , Connecticut , United States
Corey is fantastic, he’s installed pickups on 2 of my guitars now and has done a remarkable job. Also, the best pedal selection in CT by far, highly recommended.
Bought several items from Martel and am never disappointed.
Great service and selection
Interesting store with some interesting gear. They don’t seem to carry Fender or Gibson. They had a stomp box manufacturing class going on when I visited.
Purchased a guitar for 750, now walking out with 637. Unfortunately I was not told about a very unfair and sneaky return exchange policy until I had asked after already completing the purchase. Also could not see clearly a visible sign inside that states anything about a return policy. When I asked where the sign was upon trying to return this guitar he pointed to have a corner and I still did not see the sign. I do believe that a return policy sign should be at the register for full disclosure. The law does state you are entitled to a full refund if you are not told about the refund policy during the time of the transaction, which I was not informed of that. Limited selection and unfortunately subject to a very steep restocking fee or store credit, if you are a serious musician make sure you know this first as you know that buying instruments is quite expensive and it is hard to want to get locked into something that you do not truly love.
As one reviewer already stated. They have a terrible return policy especially with online purchases. Good store as long as you know you’re going to keep the item but who really knows, its musical gear, its hard to tell if your going to dig it or not until you play it with your rig. Returning a pedal (or probably anything) is just not worth it due the return fees. 2 stars because I received it pretty quickly but definitely wasn’t packed that well. Without a doubt this will be my last purchase from this store. There’s plenty of other great stores to choose from that won’t bend you over on return fees. **Edit for response to the owner** Yes you do clearly state your return fees online. “Small restocking fee” is a bit of an understatement…your restocking fee is 10%. If I pay $250 for a guitar pedal. Right off the bat you’re keeping $25 of my return. I couldn’t imagine purchasing a guitar online through your store.

The employees are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. A big shoutout to Rob for his help today.
I was looking to buy a higher end digital piano. This was the best instrument buying experience of my 65+ years. Grant and the women working in the store were very helpful in my evaluating different keyboards. They brought in additional keyboards more than once for me to try from the warehouse. I was not rushed in making a decision. Their feedback as to tone, feel etc were spot on. Great overall experience!
Rob has been fantastic helping me with my instrument rental and purchase. He was very attentive at listening to what I was looking for and researched several options to me to select from. He was very knowledgeable and was able to provide great insight and recommendations. He went far above and beyond my expectations and made the process so easy. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending working with Rob to anyone!
I whould l8ke to buy aking or yamaha euphonium
10. McDonald’s
Address: 321 Main St, Terryville, CT 06786 , Terryville , Connecticut , United States
Speedy overnight service. Our food was fresh and delicious
Hot fresh food
My Mcdonald’s of choice in the Thomaston area. Sometimes line can be long late at night, but food is as good as the Arch is going to get.
I mean, it’s McDonald’s
average experience, no delays.
Was able to dine inside at 10:30 after a play when other places were closed. Clean and friendly
The general manager Teresa fired me even after I covered 4 shifts in the first week of employment for using a spatula improperly and rather than show me fired me on the spot for insubordination and it’s 2 weeks before the holidays none the less thats ridiculous they need to do better
I ordered an egg mcmuffin, hashbrown and coffee. Was charged close to $ 7.00. I called and spoke to manager he told me egg mcmuffin is like $3.89 and hashbrown was 1.69 that’s insane! I probably could’ve gotton BK or DD cheaper. The prices here are insane! In which they could’ve upped there prices. But $ 3.89 for an egg mcmuffin is crazy
Wish I could give it 0 stars looks like every time I come here it’s a 45 min wait girl in front of me waited an hour and all she ordered was a coffee and a fry
11. George’s Music Center
Address: 905 New Harwinton Rd, Torrington, CT 06790 , Terryville , Connecticut , United States
This is the ultimate local and online retailer in the business. George continually goes above and beyond any musical instrument retailer I have ever dealt with to make the experience shopping there the best. You can’t get the type of personal service and attention at any mega big box music store that George provides to his customers.
This place “ROCKS” ,pun intended. George is awesome!
Very Helpful
Meh
Nice shop
If you’re not looking to go too far to get musical instruments. Look no further. Expensive though. But if you don’t care about prices, go for it. Not much of a selection though.
After going to this place; I must say I will never go back there again. The owner is so rude and disrespectful. Its not even funny. The owner needs get off his anthropocentric state of mind.
This place is just awful. The owner is so rude to us that i will never go back. We rented an instrument from him because our normal music store didnt have the instrument and when the instrument broke he said it was our fault and that it wasnt covered and then bad mouthed our local music store.
12. The Music Shop
Address: 22 Mc Dermott Ave, Torrington, CT 06790 , Terryville , Connecticut , United States
Our 13 year old son has been taking private saxophone lessons at ” The Music Shop” for over 4 years, starting with Leo Liddle. Keith Wilson, a very talented musician took over as his teacher and we love his dedication and perseverance to help expand our son’s musical knowledge with the sax, while also making it fun. The expansion of his new location makes the updated atmosphere a wonderful learning environment, and also has great on site repair service.
Super nice owner. Shared his knowledge about local music scene and programs. I am coming back!!!
Keith took great care of me! I’m a beginner guitar player and broke one of my strings, had no clue what to do. I purchased the strings there and he taught me how to put them on right in the store. He even tuned my guitar, and gave me some tips to keep it maintained. Service like that is RARELY found. TY Keith!!
13. The Music Shop
Address: 405 Queen St, Southington, CT 06489 , Terryville , Connecticut , United States
I brought my old Taylor guitar in for some adjustments and Scot was awesome!!super knowledgeable, attentive, detailed and quick turn around to get my guitar back to me. The adjustments were just what I was looking for so now I can happily play my guitar! Very personable and friendly! Excellent service! I love the local feel! I would highly recommend this shop!
The best service on the planet. These guys are like music stores used to be
Great place but website could be better such as pics of some used equipment. I’m a drummer and would like to see what they have for new and used cymbals, stands, drum kits etc. And prices. I have done business with them and always had a great experience the reason for three stars is the website doesn’t do the music shop justice. All and all great store great people.
The cellos were in not in good shape and we had to pay a luthiere to redo repairs that were poorly done when we received the instrument.
Cleanest fades in town for sure. Tried a few places in the area and nobody comes close to these guys.
Great barbers
Awesome place to get a fresh cut. Javi did a killer job. Will definitely be my new place to go.
Took my son there spur of the moment called ahead to see if there was a wait or needed appointment. None needed was fine kid enjoyed it. Nice big place clean. With music.
Disappointed is an understatement. They messed up my boyfriends hair line and I held up a piece of hair to show how uneven Danny cut his hair. 40$ for this. I want my money back.
17. Springmeyer Vintage Restoration
Address: 125 Main St, Oakville, CT 06779 , Terryville , Connecticut , United States
Before he even opened the case, he knew what I had.
An old favorite1960’s Italian made Galanti.
The neck had a slight twist and I could not get it in tune…I was ready to just hang in on my wall.
He fixed the neck and set it up, intonation, bridge and fixed a faulty wire. Gary’s prices are fair, and he is very knowledgeable.
I recommend him for any tech work.
I’ve been here several time for work on my guitars. Always been very happy with the work and the prices are wry fair. I would highly recommend Springmeyer’s to anyone
Gary is a real pro that does great work at an amazingly reasonable price. He recently replaced my preamp and pickups on my bass. He’s a pleasure to work with. He’s the only guy in a 25 mile radius that I would confidently hand over my beloved basses.
Shoddy workmanship
Knocked on the door and this angry guy opens it. I asked if they sell XLR cables since they are a music store and the guy just stared at me and said XLR cables aren’t for guitars. Then he continued to stare at my angrily and I said have a great day. WEIRD AND WILL NEVER GO BACK.
