Great piano store! Downtown walnut creek, walk-in friendly. Many good options. Yamaha, vintage Steinways. Some of them were above my budget, but Manager Carson still allowed me to play the pianos.
I bought my Yamaha Degital piano 2 weeks ago, and I am extremely happy with my purchase and Music Exchange specially with Richard Olson who was my sales person. Very knowledgable.
Good selection of traditional and electronic pianos. Friendly & helpful service.
I try Music Xchange branch in Walnut Creek was, unfortunately, a frustrating experience. After attempting to schedule a virtual appointment, I was looking forward to getting information about pianos available within my budget. However, things did not go as expected.
Upon scheduling a virtual appointment on the store’s website, I received no response whatsoever. I decided to call the branch directly to resolve my query, but to my surprise, the lady who attended to me seemed unaware of my previously booked appointment. This initial lack of coordination left me feeling bewildered and neglected.
Finally, I received a call later on, but my hope for a more satisfying experience quickly faded. The salesperson who contacted me appeared unwilling to make any further effort or provide the information I needed. The conversation was brief and unhelpful, leaving me with more unanswered questions. I have to insist asking for the info like pushing.
What frustrated me the most was the feeling that, in order to get the information I needed about piano options within my budget, I had to go to the branch in person. Unfortunately, I do not have the time required for an in-person visit, making this limitation a disappointment.
Acquiring a piano is a significant decision that requires careful attention and good guidance. I had hoped that Music Xchange would provide me with a more positive and accessible experience. The lack of response to my virtual appointment and the salesperson’s lack of effort to assist me online left me with a negative impression.
While my experience was unsatisfactory, each individual may have a different experience, so it’s important for prospective customers to research and evaluate the store according to their own needs and expectations.

Gerry is the most knowledgeable person when it comes to harps. He gave me great recommendations and not to mention such a sweetheart to talk to! I highly recommend the store and gerry!
Best place to rent a harp in California!!!! Helpful staff!!! Great harps and accessories!! This place is a total gem!!!
Lovely experience here. Their free harp classes are such a great way to introduce and try out a rare instrument. Super friendly staff and they have an adorable front window design – so cute and very instagrammable if you’re into that! Definitely would recommend visiting and supporting this business!
3. Steinway Piano Gallery
Address: 1605 Bonanza St, Walnut Creek, CA 94596 , Walnut Creek , California , United States
The Spirio experience was amazing. To see someone play a piano in New York and see the piano in the Steinway Walnut creek piano store actually playing as the artist was playing with no Latency was futuristic and ahead of our time. I never thought this technology would be around while I am alive. Hats off to you again Steinway. You always seem to be at the top of your game. I hope to get one of these one day soon. A model D Spirio of course. Thanks for the concert and demo Justin. And most of all your friendship.
Exelente
The best place to be if you want to listen, play or purchase a Steinway Piano. And Justin is the best person to help you get there. Owning a Steinway of his own; being a composer/pianist himself, he’s extremely knowledgable and can place you with the right model!
好的交通地點,很多鋼琴展示。
Classy place, beautiful pianos. Lots of light. Nice location too
The manager of the store did to not let me play any piano at all because “other customers were getting disturbed”, which was weird because I found all the others playing. I did wait and I found that it was just me who the rule applied to. All the others were playing as they like. He also didn’t feel like giving me any attention. May be because I was young, brown, single guy and rest of them were with families. I waited a full 35 mins and he still didn’t let me play. He also suggested “may be you should come again later.” I left the place and went to the Music Exchange store on the next street where I was not only treated well, but also allowed to play as I like. I ended up buying a piano from there. Sorry Steinway Piano gallery, you lost a customer and will lose many as I suggested many to not come here. Thank you.
4. The Jam Brothers Music
Address: 1208 Boulevard Way, Walnut Creek, CA 94595 , Walnut Creek , California , United States
A small but well stocked music store.
The owner is very nice and knowledgeable, he has helped me out with questions about my vintage guitar.
We’ve had him do minor repairs, adjustments to several of our guitars, he is efficient and the cost is reasonable.
As a female guitar player I’ve not run into the “attitude” I get at some music shops.
All in all a nice little shop, well worth seeking out.
This is the best place… very personable
A little gem in walnut creek. Great staff
Sad to hear that they are going out of business. Sorry to see you guys go.

Thank you – Countrywood Music – for the wonderful violin I just rented and your reasonable way of renting and suggestions on learning to play it! Through all the years I’ve bought stuff there and had some great repairs done, as well. I have always found that you have a great store for students good advice and prices. You also told me that I could come in on Sundays and you would tune this violin for free! Thanks for being there!
It’s rare and special to find a music store that can exist nowadays. A place where you can rent or buy, find lessons, or arrange repairs. The owner (Sam) is a very polite and soft-spoken man. Very calming and peaceful to speak with; a very humble fellow. It’s probably why he holds back on details, his respect for the customers opinion and his humility. Just know – the more you ask the more you get. He’s honest and will level with you.
Lessons are available for stringed instruments, woodwinds, brass, piano, violin, voice, drums and even harmonica!
The loyal customers and teachers speaks volumes!
I’ve rented a violin there for 5 years. Convenient location and they always have what we need. Sam is always helpful and provides great customer service!
Nice little music shop. The offer lessons.
Not a good place for guitar amp repair. I can’t speak about the other services. But it should be known that I brought a guitar amp there to have a bias adjustment on the new tubes I just put in. A bias adjustment has always ran me between $15 to $25. They charged me $85, completely over-board. When the Amplifier was returned to me, it didn’t work. Not sure what they did to it, but the amp does not amplify. I would have expected for $85 they would have at least tested it before giving it back to me. I use to have an amp needing a bias adjustment, now I have a broken amp and I am reluctant to take it back there. I’m out $85 and now an amplifier. There doesn’t seem to be much interest from the management to want to rectify this. I was told the repair man was in the hospital and that’s where it ended. I just relocated to the area and can’t seem to find a good amplifier repair shop. For the record, I don’t believe this is one.
Not a pleasant experience if you have any problems or issues.
