Amazing music store in Lakewood. Ac has been so wonderful helping my son with his new violin. Hes very patient and knowledgable. I will defaintly be returning frequently when needed.
The people here are so nice! And helpful!
This place is the best lots of instruments strings and accessories!! Super friendly employees thank you guys!!
Great selection but not the best music store in Denver area.
Took my brand new tenor sax in for an inspection are the end of May 2020 to make sure everything was in good working order from the factory. They told me it would be about a week. 2 weeks later I called to check the status and was told they had to quarantine all horns before working on them. That makes sense during covid craziness but they shouldn’t have lied to me when I took it in.
Two weeks after that, I called again to check the status. Apparently the day after I called the first time they “cleaned it and checked every key” but when they called to tell me I had the audacity to not answer the phone. They didn’t leave a voice message or ever try to call back. When I told them I was pissed about that they tried to blame it on covid! Because apparently the virus changed the way PHONES WORK!
I had decided that I wasn’t going to leave a bad review because I know how hard it can be as a small business owner myself. Then I tried to play my horn. The spring on one of the palm keys was completely out of place. It’s a 30-second fix but I JUST PAID $100 to avoid this exact problem. So basically I paid $100 to have my factory new sax that didn’t need cleaning cleaned and to have someone claim to check it and miss one of the simplest problems a sax can have. In other words they didn’t do crap, took a month to not do crap, and charged me $100 for crap. Even leaving a voice message was too much effort.
I rarely say “I’ll never be back” to a business because we’re all human and mistakes happen but this was over the top. I honestly don’t think they actually did anything and charged me for it.
On a positive note, their prices for accessories are pretty decent.
Update: After leaving a bad review the store did contact me and offer to make it right. I have to give them credit for that. So I upped my rating based on their willingness to do that.
They have lots of instruments but seemed pricey to me. I’d probably try here if I needed repairs though. They have a robust workshop on site, but I thankfully haven’t needed to make use of it yet.
Keep a close eye on your account! Three months after receiving an invoice that I fully paid for my instrument they took money out of my account. After calling three times they replied that they messed up but would not honor their invoice. Stay away from them. They are not worth your time or money.
charged 25$ for a damaged shoulder rest that costs 7$ online…
Tried to have them fix my nephews instrument, they called and told me it was too cheap of an instrument to bother fixing. Most insulting customer service I’ve ever had.
3. Drum City-Guitar Land
Address: 9225 W 44th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
Oh my goodness when they say drum world and guitar City they mean drum world and guitar City beautiful beautiful beautiful. One long-running sentence of beautiful.
Always soothing to walk into drum city, have been going there for years. Fair prices, great repairs and all the accessories any garage band would ever need
Tim is very responsive and always wants to help. If he doesn’t have it, chances are he can get it.
Small, intimate music gear shop packed full with instruments and anything a musician’s heart could wish for. I was charged much less at the register for an item than what was marked on the package.
Shopping here since I was a kid. Lot of history in this lil’ place. Professional though.
Inquired over the phone (45 min drive) on needing 2x Iron Cobra Wooden Beaters. “Got them for you” was his response. Fight traffic to get there, buy product and trustingly got back in car. Upon inspection in parking lot, one is labeled CB90W (correct), the other CB90F (wrong). Stems are different and neither comes with weights. Looking closer the wood is shaped differently, different sizes and completely different types of wood. Just paid for two “new” Wooden Beaters that weigh differently and have different bounce properties. This place will lie just to make a dollar. Never going back.
Bought a Schecter Tempest custom which was “supposed” to come with American made Seymour Duncan pickups. After I purchased the guitar they emailed me saying there was an “issue” with my pickups, and that they needed to be replaced. Yeah; they replaced them alright…with Duncan Disigned pickups…..scumbags.
Have and never will do business with again! BUYER BEWARE!!!!
I came in a few times for a cocktail drum purchase and didn’t find prices that fit my budget (which is fine, it was nice equipment and they’re a used store!). I came back to try and trade things in for accessories instead (bass pedal/Hi-Hat stand) but the trade in value was changed when I got there if I didn’t buy multiple items. Again fair enough, it’s a used shop and they need to make money.
I came yesterday to grab a floor Tom ring and Tim was pretty short with me a bit immature saying “Hey, we finally sold you something!” tried to upsell me on a bass drum head for my new kick and when I was said goodbye, he ignored me while walking away.
I truly do not like to write these messages or send negativity to a used music shop as I had been apart of one for a very long time but if you can’t find me what I’m looking for at a price that is in my range: do not make it my problem and make me feel unwanted. I sent an email addressed to Tim specifically to remedy the situation and I haven’t heard anything back. So I’m writing it here to not treat others this way.
Everyone needs to make money but jeez, don’t run your customers out when they finally find something that works for them with you.
Eric was a great guitar instructor. He was patient and encouraging, and he helped me develop my technique and understanding of the instrument. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn guitar.
Also, because of Joe vast knowledge of blues/rock music, I have learned about many artists that I knew of only by name, but did not really listen to. Working with Joe has increased the range of music I like, and it has given me a new appreciation for many artists.
TR Lessons has been a revelation! As a hesitant singer, my nerves were quickly eased by the supportive instructor. Now, I’m gaining confidence and honing my vocal skills. No regrets – it’s been an amazing journey!
6. FYE
Address: 14500 W Colfax Ave Space 447, Lakewood, CO 80401 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
Very helpful. They held on to a dvd for me for a few hours that I was looking for for a while andbthey had the combo movie ofnall three movies in which I thought there was only two for a great price!
Love this place
So much pop culture stuff. The movies are always on sale and they have a great variety.
It is much like a brighter hot topic, nearly the same stuff though more nick backs and less clothing.
Coo if it what ur in to
Not what it use to be
I (like others who have posted a review) was scammed by this store. I agreed to a free membership only to later discover that the manager put me on a Platinum Membership plan which charges me $12 a month. Upon signing up, I asked the necessary questions to ensure I wasn’t joining a membership I’d have to pay for. It is not an exaggeration to say that I asked about three times if there would be any future fees. The manager hid the fact I would, in fact, be charged in the future. I will no longer shop at this store. It’s appalling what they did to me and others. Many things are over priced as it is, but to scam customers into paying for a membership is disgraceful. The company, and more specifically, the manager of this location should feel ashamed. This is exactly how you lose customers.
Overpriced
Bought a record here but got conned into joining a rewards program and wasn’t aware there was a fee. I was already halfway through the transaction when I realized, and I just went with it when the employees said it was easy to cancel. Currently 45 minutes in on the phone with customer support so I don’t get charged!
7. Chelsea Manning Arvada Music
Address: 2304 Ford St, Golden, CO 80401 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
Amazing old music shop feel, with great selection of acoustics.
One of the best places in Denver to buy a good guitar. Friendly and knowledgeable staff as well. If you are lucky you might get a chance to catch a jam session or small event. Great shop and great people!
This place has been my home away from home for over 30 years, even if I’m not here often anymore. It’s one of the few truly sane (and yet just slightly twisted) places on the planet.
Knowledgeable owner.
Great little shop offering guitars, mandolins, banjos and a huge variety of stringed instruments both for sale and/or repair. A fun shop to visit, and if you play to try out the various instruments.
I was looking forward to visiting, but after this experience it is highly unlikely I will ever go back. The guy working the counter today could not have cared less that a customer was in the store and interested in guitars. I tried to engage him in conversation, but he had zero interest in chatting with me. Thoroughly unimpressed. I have a hard time believing they will be able to stay in business if this is how most of the people who try to shop there are treated. I love to support local businesses, but unfortunately this won’t be one I support in the future. If you need anything guitar or music related, you’re probably better off finding another place to shop.
Give this place a pass if you’re looking for violin or fiddle things. Not much selection and the main dude at the counter seemed very offput when I asked about them. The other guy working was really nice though.
They refuse to answer inquiries
9. Wild Acoustic Music Co.
Address: 28225 CO-74, Evergreen, CO 80439 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
What a great find! Found this exploring beautiful Evergreen and was so impressed by the unique and beautiful instruments. Loved the inlaid wood guitars, hand crafted wood picks and unique Ocarina. Great prices and Ed was so helpful showing me around and answering all my questions.
We get music lessons here. Just couldn’t be happier! If you are looking to learn, this is the place!
10. Wedgles Music & Loan
Address: 1122 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
I had the good fortune of staying near the shop while in Denver; the staff was welcoming, helpful and genuinely kind in regards to helping fix my ukulele. Very grateful to have walked through their doors. ❤️
Neat music shop…went in to buy an orchestra instrument for my beginner child. The guys there were very helpful and gave me a deal on a pre-owned instrument. It’s in the heart of Denver, conveniently located on Broadway. They tuned it up for me and I was on my way. This place is the best kept secret in musical instruments.
approach with respect and it will be returned to you
This is the local pawn shop for your instrumental needs. Great music items
I was in today 9/12/12.
As usual they were a bit busy, but said hi, and I wandered around.
I try to vist Wedgles any time I’m in Denver, and I’ve always been treated with respect, had questions answered and everyone was friendly.
I am sure, given their location, that they get the dregs of society in there on a far too frequent basis, and if you’ve ever worked in retail you know how difficult it can be dealing with the regular public, let alone those down on their luck.
I think these guys do a good job in a small space with difficult customers at times.
They are knowledgable, but I doubt any of them know everything about everything!
I don’t know about the bad comments other than that when a customer has a problem he will usually tell ten people, but when everything goes well, no one is the wiser.
If in doubt, stop in for perhaps the best selection of GOOD used guitars and instruments in Denver. While there today I saw 5 or 6 Fender Telecasters, a number of Gibson acoustics, a carved top or two, etc. Also some inexpensive lap steels (try to find a lap in a pawn shop!) and a few good quality tube amps.
Give these guys a shot, and ignore the whiners!
I absolutely love this place the staff are Amal and they ALWAYS treat my possessions with care. Also very understanding and work with me on my loans too thnx Wedgels you ROCK!!!
This place is a fence for stolen goods. They repeatedly sell merchandise that they know has been reported as stolen. They deliberately do not enter purchased merchandise into the statewide stolen property database as required by law.
They intentionally obtain as little information as possible from people selling stolen goods to protect theives from legal consequences.
Do not inform them if you find your stolen merchandise on display or it will “miraculously” sell right away before the law can intervene. Just contact the police first!
Very corrupt business practices.
I came in today to sell a violin. The owners are complete imbeciles, completely rude and totally ignorant of or feigning ignorance of the value of various violins. They offered absolutely nothing for my 2000$ antique violin which is a high quality antique, and has been played professionally. They didn’t even know how to research the value on it and exhibited completely abhorrent customer service. I would never return and recommend to anyone not to waste your time with this abysmal shop. This is a truly low quality business.
Closed on 2:30 on Monday. I came down on the bus to a closed store
11. Acordeonate Music Shop
Address: 2963 W 72nd Ave, Westminster, CO 80030 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
Attending the two week intensive course at Victor Guitar was an experience that I will never forget. After a lot of research and deliberation, I decided that my money was best spent on taking this course to further my skills as a luthier. I came home with a guitar that was well worth the cost of the course, and a great deal of knowledge that is invaluable. Edward and his staff are highly skilled, friendly, and are willing to teach you anything you want to know. I would highly recommend you take this course, visit their boutique guitar shop, and have your instruments repaired and set up here. You will not be disappointed.
This place is awesome. Great luthier service and really cool guitars.
Best luthier in Colorado, if not the entire Mountain timezone. They have done set-ups and repairs for my Martin acoustic and archtop Gibsons. Attention to detail and workmanship are superb. Very thorough with their assessments of work required, and estimates. You can’t go wrong here.
Pretty mediocre experience. Setup and binding work was done properly, but that was it. Poor communication, poor turn-around time and poor customer service. There are much better spots to take your acoustic in Denver.
I would not recommend this place at all. Even after reading a few good reviews I was amazed at the poor quality of work that was done. I had a family member drop my guitar off to have it polished, adjusted, and knew strings. Also, I needed the electric wires taped on the inside that had come loose. I had spoke to them specifically about this. After 2 weeks with no call that the guitar was done, I had the same family member pick my guitar up. No polish, no adjustments, no wires taped back inside. They did put new strings on (wrong gadge) and they decided to put black permanent marker on several scuffs we agreed to be left alone. This is very noticeable. I’m very sad that my guitar was handled this way. I called and they just said bring it back. Very unhappy. This was my baby. So essentially I paid $106 for the wrong stings and black permanent marker I didn’t ask for. I’m surprised because they advertise such good work. I will never let them touch my guitar. A tech named “Heath” was supposedly the one who worked on it. I hope this helps others that are looking to have a simple fix. GO TO THE GUITAR SHOP ON COLFAX. he might be a dick but he does good work at least. That is all.
The guys at Peneplain Jazz are amazing. They played at my husband and my 20th wedding anniversary last night in Boulder, and we could not have been more thrilled with their performance. The music was the perfect style for our event, and the musicians calibrated the sound level perfectly, adjusting when necessary to accommodate the noise level in the room and allow for conversation. Also, Jerry was a pleasure to work with — he was very professional and responsive to my questions leading up to the event. I highly recommend Peneplain Jazz for any party where you want to enliven the atmosphere and make the evening special!
The band was great to work with and the music was exactly what I was hoping for.
Peneplain performed at our corporate function held at the Broadmoor Hotel in April 2013. They were extremely professional, prompt, and very entertaining. They were perfect for creating an elegant classy mood at the event. We had volume sensitivities but a huge crowd (~500) and they handled the challenge very well. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for some classy entertainment.
14. Green Mountain Piper
Address: 14258 W Evans Cir, Lakewood, CO 80228 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
Dan is an excellent piper. His communication before and after the event is fantastic and he is very flexible to accommodate a family’s preferences. He arrives early to get warm up and to get a feel where would be best to play. His music is great and he plays really well. I would definitely recommend him. He’s done funerals for me now and we’ll go to him again and again.
Thank you, Dan for an amazing day! Dan was very responsive via email when we booked him and was completely flexible willing to learn songs etc., we had more of a relaxed wedding so we asked him to play whatever tunes he wanted and stuck to his suggested songs list. The guests loved his tunes at our ceremony. Thank you for being a part of making our wedding celebration a unique experience for our guests!
Dan is so great! He always brings the party love going to his concerts
15. TR Music & Voice Lessons
Address: 1889 S Beech St, Lakewood, CO 80228 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
I had been playing the piano for a long time, but I felt like I had hit a plateau. That’s when I started taking lessons with James. He was able to help me break through my plateau and develop new skills. Now, I am able to play more advanced pieces with ease.
Her teaching style is confident, compassionate, technical but fun and inspiring! Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just looking to get in to singing I would strongly recommend Taylor. I’ve taken lessons from other instructors in the bay and she has easily been the best!
Before I met Forbsey, I spent my time with two other vocal coaches. Each one taught me how to sing one specific genre of music, which soon became a problem as a continued to find my voice. Many times as a singer, you tend to evolve as you listen to different music in new seasons in your life. And if your teacher can’t teach you as you continue grow, how can you craft ‘your sound’? With Forbsey’s experience as a coach, and her broad taste in music, I have been able to sing not only Broadway, and jazz, but pop and rock as well. Most importantly, I’ve been able to sing with no strain to my voice. She has showed me how to apply the different techniques of singing to each genre of music and make it my own.
I would give zero stars if I could. Paid $120 upfront for vocal lessons only to be informed a whole week later that the instructor I asked for is unavailable. I was completely understanding and willing to look into other instructors and see if they had experience with recording in a studio to help me polish my vocals for an ep that I’m releasing. I looked through the other available vocal coaches and all are only available through webcam besides one vocal instructor who just did not fit my style, which I am not okay with considering that I need in person lessons. I politely asked for a refund and now I’ve been ignored for days via text, email, and even call. It’s been about two, almost three, weeks now since I put my hard earned money down for these lessons with absolutely nothing to show for it besides a few lousy emails. I would not suggest working with these guys. I should have known that this would be a scam when they demanded the payment package be paid upfront without scheduling said lessons.
Updating my review to three stars. It took me threatening a bad review to get a response out of you guys, but I’m grateful to have my refund and to have been responded to. Thank you very much
16. Best Buy
Address: 1400 Denver West-Marriott Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80401 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
All the employees you encounter are so wonderful and a pleasure to deal with. Keep up the great attitudes and work. Thank you
Good customer service
Mercedes & Tyler the GM saved me as a customer. I went through five weeks of warranty issues that left me without a phone that I was paying insurance on.Talked with
Dozens of employee’s that couldn’t do anything. After an hour or so Mercedes & Tyler resolved the issue and sent me home with an upgraded phone. Great people who care about customers.
I like it
Good selection
I was helped pretty fast
I went into this Best Buy yesterday prepared to buy a PS5 and several accessories. Around $800 worth. I came in and stood by the PlayStation stuff. I had 4 employees walk past me and avoided eye contact with me. I even waved and said hi and tried to flag down an employee for help. They just continued to walk by. On my way out of the store I told the young man at the welcome desk that I was not helped and he just shrugged his shoulders completely uninterested in trying to help me. I went across the street to Target. Within a few moments of me getting there, I was helped, I had purchased my stuff and was on my way back home. Y’all need some serious help with your lackluster staff.
Sold me a defective television and refuses to help make the situation right. DO NOT BUY FROM “BEST” BUY. Maybe some day they will understand customer service. They do sell some very expensive tv shaped paper weights if anyone is interested. They are even the size of tvs. Pretty crazy. I miss sears and the customer service they provided…. they blew best buy out of the water. So sad to see a place forget that it’s customers that keep them in business.
My last experience in this store two years ago was awful! I was talked to disrespectfully and treated poorly! I had my full warranty with me to replace a controller to my receiver and they refused to honor it even though I had paid for the extended warranty that covered for the loss or broken controller. I keep my word when I say I will never shop there again!
17. King Systems LLC – Denver, CO
Address: 150 Capital Dr #230, Golden, CO 80401 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
Great company to work for. I enjoy working with the knowledgeable personnel and providing the highest quality of service out there. I am proud of the work, service, and projects that we provide for our customers!
King Systems has helped our district out a ton. They are always very professional and always go the extra mile when it comes to customer support. We are extremely grateful for all the awesome work they have done for us!
Highly skilled, professional, and knowledgeable staff all working together to ensure customer satisfaction and retention while maintaining a safe and friendly work environment.
Company driver has no regard for others safety on the interstate. These are the type of people they hire, guys that drive like mad men on the road, blatantly cutting people off and almost causing wrecks on the road.
18. HB Woodsongs
Address: 3101 28th St, Boulder, CO 80301 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
Great range of instruments. It’s rare to find a brick-and-mortar music store these days that can afford to stay in business – especially in a city with expensive rents like Boulder. Just got a beautiful octave mandolin there and my daughter rents a cello from them. Let’s support local businesses!
A stringed instrument music store with knowledgable and honest sales people who offer the top brands in musical instruments like Deering Banjos, Taylor and Martin Guitars. They also have a repair shop across the street with experts to fix musical instruments. It is worth going out of your way to visit HB Woodsongs.
My favorite music shop, I highly recommend HB Woodsongs — going there feels more like stopping by to visit some friends than it does going into a store. They are always friendly and sales are extremely low-pressure. They’ll answer your questions if you have any, or just let you browse the floor as much as you want, checking out what they have to offer and trying out instruments to find one that works for your tastes, level and playing style. I’ve bought my first ‘ukulele from them in 2013 and have since purchased 2 guitars as well as numerous accessories and supplies. Rentals are also very straight-forward and they’ll let you know exactly what to expect as far as cost and returns when the time comes.
In my mind, when buying a musical instrument there’s no substitute for being able to pick up the instrument and test it out yourself. Even within the same exact model there is variation, wood after all is a natural material with each piece having its own unique qualities.
Being a relatively small shop, they don’t always have what I’m looking for. For example, they have a limited selection of microphones, amps and other pro-audio equipment, but even in those cases I’ve been able to get a few of those items through them or they’ve still been able to answer my questions and pointed me in the right direction when it wasn’t something they carried or could get on special order.
HB Woodsongs is not only a shop, but also a community of musicians — there are regular monthly workshops at the shop that have helped me learn and improve as a musician. One is focused specifically on the ‘ukulele while the other focuses on Bluegrass music of all acoustic instruments. They are great fun and very welcoming environment to explore new techniques such as soloing.
Go to place in Boulder for all of my acoustic instrument needs. Good people, excellent service, nice atmosphere.
Called long distance for a specific piece of sheet music. While they do not have it in the store, the sales rep named Derek was extremely helpful and courteous. Kudos to him.
Attentive staff. Good selection. Prices are average to high.
Very friendly staff, unfortunately way over-priced. You can find some of the exact same items on ebay or Amazon for less than half the price at this store.
19. 2nd & Charles
Address: 14500 W Colfax Ave #241, Lakewood, CO 80401 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
This place is a wonder to walk around. Books, comics, anime, manga, collectables, lots to find!
Glad places like this still exist. Great selection of books, games and music.
You can spend hours browsing. A book lovers dream
Great staff here.
Okay store
They have a ton of cool stuff!!
They are rip off when you sell stuff to them
I love the flatiron location, but this one SUCKS! It was my nephew’s birthday he was 9 the cashier was rude as hell and the staff couldn’t seem to be bothered to help us with questions never going back to this location
They decided to change their system to something new so any store credit previously acquired from trade-ins aren’t available at this location. Seems pretty pointless to me especially for those of us who have a lot of store credit. Not anyone’s fault at the store but it is an annoyance
20. Kaleidoscope Productions
Address: 401 Violet St, Golden, CO 80401 , West Pleasant View , Colorado , United States
One of the BEST productions companies for sound, light & staging in Colorado.
Kaleidoscope Productions proves show after show, that they are one of the most knowledgeable crews in the business. This knowledge is displayed with not only their high end gear on-site, but how to use it with there ever changing concert landscapes.
Adapting to each show set up, this crew walks away from each gig with accolades from not only their hiring clients, but the acts they serve on stage as well. If you know this business, this is NOT an easy job.
Kaleidoscope Productions and their most educated sound & light engineering crew should be at the top of your list when hiring for sound, staging & lighting.
