It’s like travelling back in time to a thrift store from 1985.
Wonderful staff. If you didn’t find anything you didn’t stay long enough
Great place for junking, excellent fresh vegetables and lots a beautiful flowers
We found a few items worth buying. Most things like vintage Barbie Dolls are priced well above collector retail.
Want to buy a 15 year old toothbrush in its original packaging for $1.25? This is your place. But it is full of oddities from back when, so have at it.
Please update your website/Google. Just drove 30 miles based on site saying opened til 3 p.m. place closed up tight. Wasted gas and time. Not good.
It’s very dirty
Everything is so thoroughly covered in dust and grime that you don’t even want to touch anything. Hard to search for gems when your hands are disgusting the first time you touch something.
2. Art’s Music Shop, Inc
Address: 4647 US-280, Birmingham, AL 35242, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
If you drop your instrument off for an estimate get it in writing with a signature from the manager that they will not work on it.
I walked in to pick up my trombone from an estimate, started walking out and was told I owed money. For what? I did not authorize anything.
It’s too bad this shop is the only option in Birmingham. Check out Bailey Brothers to see if they have what you need first.
This place is a joke. I called and asked about a mellophone and was told that they had several from me to choose from. I get there and they had one that was new and one from the 70’s they tried sell me. I will stay with Bailey Brothers.
I will never shop here again. They take advantage of the schools and over price. They finance at 300% interest. Total ripoff.
3. Bailey Brothers Music Company
Address: 4673 US-280 Suite # 7, Birmingham, AL 35242, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
I have bought a LOT of equipment from these guys over the years. They have the best brands at good prices. Always super nice and knowledgeable about their products. My go to music store in central Alabama. They are like family. We are lucky to have them here.
I was driving back to Franklin Tn today from Ga and stopped in the shop.
Everyone was extremely kind and the store looked great!
I was super impressed with John in the electric room. Not only did they stock the “must have pedals” they also had pedals that help players find and define their individual sound.
John had a thorough knowledge of all the gear in the room. I highly recommend the shop!!
Dave
always has anything i need for backline company–lewis is best drum guy in town !!!!
Good service. Knowledgeable staff. Wish there was one closer to us!
Usually get good service, but I took my guitar nut to be repaired after my guitar took a spill. I let them know the guitar had fallen and hoped they would fix. The nut was replaced poorly but the guitar had a buzz. Took it back 2 more times. The last visit, the person in charge of the repair (2 weeks later)said I had heavy fingers and raised the stings to a height that made the guitar unplayable. I took to another repair shop and they repaired the nut replaced by Bailey Brothers found a couple of uneven frets repaired the frets adjusted the neck and had to re-setup the guitar from the disaster repair at Bailey Brothers. If in need of repairs I will never return to this store.
It was my first time in the store and I had an excellent experience. David was very helpful and friendly as well as the other staff present. The online site lacks a lot of the guitars they have in stock because they get new guitars a lot so I would advise actually going into the store to see their wide selection.
I left my guitar with this store in February 2012 for a simple repair. In June it was still hanging waiting for them to repair. I had been told on multiple occasions that it would be ready in just a few days. I picked it up today June 24, 2012 and no repair has been done and I was still charged a bench fee. This place sucks. I will never go in there again. Good luck if you do.
No stars really. Not a very good merchant. Let someone use my credit card number without the card! Be careful!
Don’t answer the phone
4. Dollar General
Address: 9534 Co Rd 55, Harpersville, AL 35078, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
The store is never actually stocked, aisles are blocked with boxes that need to be stocked on the shelf. It’s dirty a lot of times. However, the staff is always hard at work, they’re friendly even though they’re overworked and understaffed. They’re much better than the Family Dollar stores in town.
Nice folks in Westover store.
The cashier was very rude.
It was overly crowded on shevles ,things were in the walk. Making it extremely hard to walk down the isle. On some of the shelves you couldn’t make out what products where even there . I’ve seen this store look way better than what I saw today.
No one is ever friendly here
5. Homewood Musical Instrument Co
Address: 1712 28th Ave S, Homewood, AL 35209, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
I spoke with the gentlemen and both of them were quite knowledgeable and friendly. Their shop looked like a good repair shop should look and that was reassuring enough.
The only downside was their backlog of work and the 3-4 weeks estimation for getting my work completed; then again, if it’s done correctly the first time, that’s still not too much of a wait. I’d rather have it done right than done a second or third time!
Bob runs one of the coolest instrument shops you’ll find anywhere. Though he is always busy either revitalizing worn instruments or building new ones, he has always had time answer my newbie mandolin questions or take a look at what ails my guitars.
Looking forward to checking out this new location!
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
Good product, Good service.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
6. Guitars and More LLC Gardendale
Address: 1128 Main St, Gardendale, AL 35071, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
Great place to get you’re guitar accessories with helpful staff
They are friendly and it’s Hands-On when it comes to the guitars
The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Instrumental instructors are very good and great rate for classes.
Great inventory and excellent friendly service from a fellow named Ken. Very knowledgeable
Nice small business. Very helpful.
Great sales,super repair work!
I went in yesterday and asked about a Gretch open back banjo on the back wall that didn’t have a price tag. The reply I got from the bearded gent behind the counter was ” I don’t know, probably $300 or something”, and then he walked away like I didn’t exist. The vibe I got from him was “I dont want to help you. I won’t help you”. I buy a LOT of instruments and spend thousands of dollars per year on all sorts of music equipment, but this store has shown me that they don’t want my business and they aren’t interested in having any sort of customer care. I didn’t want to go to Guitar Center anymore, I would like to buy from a local store, but Guitars and More has discouraged me from doing any business with them. My advice to other customers is to go elsewhere. They don’t want your business and they don’t deserve your business.
The people are nice but the stuff you buy here is garbage.
7. Chevalier Productions
Address: 423 Hamric Dr W, Oxford, AL 36203, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
Great little music store. Very helpful people, fantastic owner
Took my son there. They are great people and welcomed my son to jam with them anytime! And he always looks forward to that now! Great prices on marching percussion equipment! Will definitely be a go to store even though my son doesn’t march anymore.
Great selection!!!
EXCELLENT customer service!!!
These guys are my GO TO!!!
Don’t know about
Good people that try to do their best to serve you. Good prices on everything, always friendly and accommodating.
Really great shopping great all around
These guys did the sound at the Singing Showdown in Oneonta, Alabama & I was so disappointed with their sound quality at this outdoor event. The Singing Showdown is a singing competition & almost every instrument or track that played for each vocalist was way too loud. I’m just bummed !
This place is awful. They had my sons guitars for a week and when we picked them up, they still were not ready. They had not checked them or even tuned them and I had to call that day to get them even to work on the last one. They were supposed to fix the pickup switch and they just did a bandaid repair. They just needed to be set up which is about a 30 minute job. These people are the worst. We will never ever use them again.
I took my Ibanez Ps model to them to have a set of push pull pots put in. After it being there for four months, I went to pick it up. He was finishing it up as I showed up. Got home and it did as he said. It was out of phase when both pickups were engaged and wasn’t playing right. Inspected the wiring and found it was wired wrong, and when I removed the nut for the selector switch, it was on so tight it messed up my finish. Currently in the middle of rewiring it
8. Lisenby’s Music Shop
Address: 831 S Memorial Dr, Prattville, AL 36067, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
Just moved into town and had a problem with my LTD Eclipse, after restringing it…fast and friendly service will be back…also let me know if you guys get a Butterscotch Tele in!!
Great deals
Lance and Tracy are nice folks. They have a good selection of strings and accessories. Neat place for obscure instruments.
9. B&C Music
Address: 314C Billy B Dyar Blvd, Boaz, AL 35957, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
Friendly local place and with high prices but a good selection and knowledgeable.
Great little music shop. A good place to look for a starter instrument or replace an existing one.
I felt watched and rushed. Two women were working there that day, one was very friendly. I did not feel comfortable asking questions and also it was so hot in there.
Awful place with cheap brands and overpriced / broken used instruments.
this place is burnt!
10. Gadsden Music Company
Address: 607 Broad St, Gadsden, AL 35901, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
The store is stocked well with a large variety of instruments and equipment, the staff are knowledgeable and resourceful, and for the most part, prices are very reasonable. If you’re a drummer, by God, this is the store for you more than anyone else. Sticks as far as the eye can see, cymbals, full kits, aux percussion, you name it. There are a lot of low to high-mid-range guitars in terms of prices and quality. It’s not Guitar Center, but It’ll do.
I’ve had good experiences with repairs on my saxophone and setups on my guitar and mandolin. For those who are picky about setup, they do a good job.
There’s a small inventory of guitar pedals from what I could see, but there are a lot of guitar accessories available. Fair supply of keyboards, basses, etc. Instrument rentals are available for wind instruments. I believe that they rent out orchestral string instruments, too.
Lessons for quite a few instruments are available through the store as well, if you’re interested in those. I’ve had nothing but positive interactions with the instructors in the past, although I haven’t taken lessons from them. They’re very kind and professional people.
Always good service!
The pepole are nice and made my experience rather enjoyable
Friendly but expensive
They probably have what you need, but it’s expensive.
It was fair, it was very crowded you had to be careful not to knock something over. And most of the things were very expensive.
We were overcharged for a high hat cymbal that we ordered. When they refunded the difference, they did not refund the taxes on the difference.
We try to support local business as much as possible. But when they are not considerate of the value of our money, it’s time for us to find another store.
Rediculously expensive
If you are looking for music instruments, and accessories, i promise you, you will pay FULL retail price. No discounts there. It dosen’t matter that accessories have a 70% mark up. The best thing to do is buy it online.
11. Ron Partain’s World of Music
Address: 1914 Cogswell Ave, Pell City, AL 35125, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
Great local find, friendly/knowledgeable staff that seem happy to be there and eager to help! They had great versatility in brands/equipment/price ranges suitable for anyone it seems, wether beginner or pro. Definitely will be back
I only buy from Ron. This is down to earth Gods people, You will enjoy the place, Come and be a part of this great Music store, Great equipment & prices for you budget. Thanks Ron.
Great place. Have all your music needs. Karen will order if needed.
Wonderful music store.Friendly staff. Very helpful in supplying me with what I needed from instrument to private music lessons.
It’s a shame places like this will be going out of business soon. If they would have what I needed or was interested in like certain pickups or more interesting pedals and better guitars this would be an awesome place the last time I went in there the walls were filled with Nashville guitars and they had a couple good electrics but literally every acoustic guitar hanging on the wall was a Nashville guitar and I was looking for a Taylor or Martin but I’ve never seen anything like that in that store I go there to buy picks and strings but that’s only because they don’t have a guitar store in Talladega. When they don’t have pickups I need they asked me if I want them to order it but in this day and age I can just do that myself and get it for cheaper because looking at the price of the looper pedals they’re not buying them wholesale they’re buying them straight off of a website and marking the price up.. The people are super nice I hate giving a three-star review but I’m just being honest.
Large selection!! Beautiful instruments!!
Walked in today to look around and from the moment I walked in the door, the older gentleman (I guess the owner?) had his eye on me and was watching me like a hawk, made me feel unwelcome to be there. He asked if I was looking for anything in particular and when I told him very politely he didn’t have what I was looking for he arrogantly told me “I opened this store in 1973 and everything you see in the store is priced the same as you’d get it online” like ok bud I wasn’t complaining about the price you just don’t have what I was looking for. When I told him I wasn’t looking to buy today, and was just looking around he made a sarcastic comment about “well if you’re not buying, we can just put this back on the shelf” ??? I continued to walk around and look at some more product and he continued to watch me like a hawk until I got in my car and pulled out of the parking spot. All of my musician friends have recommended I don’t frequent this store, and I can honestly say, after that experience, I will not and will tell anyone that asks not to either. Lousy excuse for customer service.
I read reviews for this shop and thought it was an honest place to sell my gear. I walked in with an Epiphone AJ 220, with an Epiphone molded hardshell case I bought seperately, and an Epiphone “Snake Pit” 15w practice amp. ALL in like new condition. She plugged the guitar in and it was only the fourth time it had ever been plugged in. I never put the guitar in the case without wiping it down first. Look everything I listed up for yourself, and you’ll see what I lost. I messed up and let the lady know that I was in dire need of money for my family. The old guy asked where I bought it, and when I told him, he said he’d lost alot of business to “places like that”. No. I looked around the shop, and all he had was used gear that had been repaired and put up for sale. Junk. My guitar was the nicest instrument there! The reason he’s losing business is because he’s trying to sell junk and beating people in need out of what their instruments are worth. The lady acted like she was on Pawn Stars! If I hadn’t had needed the money really bad, I would have told her where she could stick her $200! That’s all they gave me for everything I brought in. Look up the items I listed, and you’ll see I did my part to support this business! The reviews I read must have been friends of theirs, because they definately misled me. Not fair at all.
12. Ellis Piano & Organ
Address: 1550 Montgomery Hwy suite a, Birmingham, AL 35216, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
The owner and his son as well as all the other staff were kind, considerate and professional with obvious integrity. I enjoyed my visit and would only buy a piano here. I wish more of today’s business owners took this much pride in their work and were as sincere in helping customers!
I cannot recommend Ellis Piano enough! Jason and his dad, David, were absolutely amazing through the entire process of piano shopping and purchasing! If you are in need of a piano (or sheet music) Ellis piano is hands down the place to go! It is clear that they take pride in their work, and that they want the very best for all of their customers!
I would like to thank the Ellis family for such wonderful service and attention to our Church’s needs. Please don’t change a thing about how you do business in the community, because you are a pillar of excellence on how to provide awesome customer service and great products. Thank you again for a great experience on the phone and in the store.
Thanks Kindly
Greater Lily Star Baptist Church Family
The staff was friendly, and they have tons of pianos and other equipment to choose from. The space is enormous, and is fun to just browse. They also do repairs. Call or stop by for any musical needs. Would go again.
my experience was questionable. they decide who they want …
Nice, helpful staff
13. Harmonic Strings
Address: 522 Co Rd 550, Fackler, AL 35746, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
Andrew is the most knowledgeable person I’ve come across on instrument history and repair. He will be the only one that repairs any of my equipment from here on out.
Andrew Martin always goes above and beyond! You have any guitar problems or questions give him a call or visit! He takes care of his customers.
The owner is very friendly and willing to help you out. Can order things if he doesn’t have it in his store. Good place to go for musical supplys.
15. Westover
Address: Alabama, USA , Westover , Alabama , United States
They always have what I need and are willing and able to acquire things in which I may take interest. The guys are great about sharing their vast knowledge, as I always seem to have a slew of questions! I love the convenient location and front-door parking!
Bought two guitars, an amp and a bass here in the past month, staff is exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. It’s Christmas season. I alway like to try and shop local. Could I get a little better deal online? No, here’s why . When you buy local, you meet good people, people who can help you learn about guitars and expand your knowledge. Someone with excellent ability and vast knowledge of the products they sell, someone a phone call away, that can help the beginner make the right choice for their needs. Your money goes back into your community which helps everyone. You can’t get that online.
My advice- Pay a couple of dollars more for the human element, have a contact when you have questions, shop local, help your community, this year has been tough on local businesses, don’t give your hard earned cash to some online giant corporation, shop local, help the little guy. You’ll be glad you did.
Nice clean store
Good selection and no junk.
Service great, price are high
Not a good experience at all, they have rescheduled my grandson twice, mind you we did not miss any sessions, they rescheduled us and then just took us off the schedule period. Carried my Grandson anyway thinking he was on schedule and Sage came in 10 minutes late and finished 5 minutes early…making it a 15 minute session instead of a 30 minute session as paid for. Spoke really negative to my Grandson and then refused any refund for missed sessions that THEY canceled. My Grandson loves everyone but does not want to go back, I’m saddened that because someone is a child that they are treated with less respect.
17. Spicer’s Music
Address: 2140 E University Dr K, Auburn, AL 36830, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
I called Spicer’s and spoke with Tyler. I was looking for a certain guitar that my daughter was asking for Christmas. Spicer’s had it in stock but I’m in MD and was worried it wouldn’t be here in time for Christmas. Tyler offered me the option to do 1 day shipping and even went out of his way to make sure the guitar comes in an unmarked box so that it won’t spoil my daughters Christmas surprise if she happens to answer the door. Tyler went above and beyond the customer service I was expecting. I’m so thankful I called today. I will definitely contact them for future purchases. Thank you again Tyler! Happy Holidays!
Great shop, good folks
Fantastic store, offers lessons with great teachers
You can take a variety of lessons, buy musical instrument accessories, and enjoy musical performances.
Pretty small store with the essentials needed to get by without having to drive all the way to guitar center.
Very helpful staff. Nice store.
Great selection and helpful staff.
Stoped in today to pick up some stuff.guy behind counter would not put his phone down to see if I needed any thing.
Great music store. Very helpful and friendly staff
Wish this was still true.. horrible experience recently when attempting to purchase a expensive acoustic guitar. 6/27/22 Went back to make a 2k+ purchase and was informed that I was given the wrong price by a salesman 2 days before. They tried to give other options but not enough to compensate for what was told to me. Very disappointed in a music store I’ve been loyal to for years.

19. Guitars and More LLC
Address: 1634 Beltline Rd SW, Decatur, AL 35601, United States , Westover , Alabama , United States
Some guy trying to copy me but great store and great service
This shop has a bit of everything. I am fascinated with it. You can rent a tux, buy some tunes, and pick up something stylish to wear in one spot. Employees are friendly and knowledgeable. Can’t wait to go back.
Incredible service, amazing clothes and prom/pageant dresses with great deal! Would recommend this store to every one!
Great place
Reasonable prices and good selection.
Good Service
The man who works here is incredibly rude and needs a lesson in customer service. I got an important phone call regarding an employment opportunity and he got mad saying I was too loud. I will never spend a dime in this store!
When I found a better price they wouldn’t give me a refund.
I asked the owner abut their vendor and he refused to give me their name, got visably angry, accused me of trying to start trouble, dismissed my questions, denied things he had just said, and started being generally patronizing and condescending. I never raised my voice and simply wanted to ask about my options on a dress. Wouldn’t recommend based on customer service alone. Ridiculous.
