Absolutely phenomenal studio for any style. Cozy with awesome hospitality. Come see Gavin!
So, I brought my project guitar to Ruth Guitars that I’ve been holding onto for years. I asked him to build it how he would like it. Oops! Turned out way better than I had ever thought! He was able to install the neck, wire in a crazy cool pick up, added strings and locking bar for the tuners. Superb work! I’ve played several of his guitars and they all have great action and are super comfortable! Highly recommended!
Chris at Ruth Guitars is pretty much the only person I trust w my gtrs. I play over 200 shows a year, and trust Chris w all my electronic work, set ups, he’s even lent me a couple custom made LG Series guitars for high profile gigs. His custom builds come standard w superior hardware including premium handwired pickups. From repairs to tone-shaping and beyond, Chris at Ruth Guitars always goes above expectations and over-delivers a product that is eye-catching, fun to play, sounds impossibly good, custom made to your specs, and affordable. Call him TODAY for any repair or maintenance, its getting cold out! You’ll want to get your hands on one of his numerous custom builds (If you can get it off his wall long enough I recommend the black LG model) and start spec’ing YOUR handmade custom model. Pictured below is the TC model w literally too many tonal options to list here. Your tonal palette is only limited by your own imagination. Chris can bring your dream sound to your hands! I wish I could give more than 5-stars!
Honest guy with a great eye for quality. Great place!
Excellent
Owner was super helpful and friendly. Very knowledgeable about the records and things were easy to find. Check it out if you get the chance! Prices were cheap
Small shop with an eclectic mix of old and new vinyl.
Small shope, interesting selection. Friendly gentleman works there.
Very cool selection and had some rare stuff I’ve not seen in a physical store before. Prices are insane. I’m sure they will come back and say they did their research, but some examples are a $600 Animal Crossing Switch (Retailed at $300 I believe and still plentiful on aftermarket), $150 for a Kid Rock Record, some stuff rated as VG that I would not call VG by any stretch and a $400 Pikachu N64 without the box ($250-300 typically with box)
I had a feeling the vinyl prices were high so I compared on Discogs, even used the runout numbers to be sure I was checking the right versions and some of these records were $100 over the highest price ever sold on Discogs.
Very shiny and attractive Tourist bait, I’m afraid
They are a vendor with Walmart and claim stuff was delivered by the USPS but probably never sent it. They refuse to do anything about it, and say I had to prove a package was lost. I will never buy from them again!
Great selection of records however they are extremely overpriced. As someone who actively buys and sells records the prices were astronomical. Even records that are still in print are being sold for about $20 above retail value. The used records are sold way above the secondary market value as well.
Edit: I’m not a flipper by any stretch of the imagination. Just a person who loves collecting records. Also, the store does not stick to their own hours. I arrived at 11:30am and I saw a sign on the door saying they changed the store hours to 2pm-7pm for the day. Not a big deal so I came back at 3pm and it was still closed. Did some more walking around town and came back after 4pm to which the store was finally open. Was not worth the wait all day for the prices they charge. Even saw a bootleg Smashing Pumpkins album being sold for $250 that they were claiming it was legit.
8. Mt. Yonah Book Exchange
Address: 3779 Helen Hwy # 1, Cleveland, GA 30528 , White County , Georgia , United States
Great book store, friendly helpful staff, good prices..
Great place.
Like going here however the books can be expensive
I like going in this place to see all the books that they have
Very unique place and lots of books, I liked the cozy atmosphere.
The prices of their used books is close to new prices.
My son and I went here looking for a local bookstore and there were good reviews for here… So we went. The prices were a little high, but she was having a sale and even though she didnt have exactly what i went for, I continued to look around. My 2 1/2 year old son wanted to see the children’s books so we did and while looking he stepped in cat throw up… As did I. It was disgusting! The litter box in the bathroom was pretty gross and full as well. Needless to say, we didnt buy anything and left after having to clean our shoes off in the parking lot. We will not be going back and i found exactly what I was looking for at books-a-million.
Super high prices even for mass market paperbacks which I have no interest in buying. Books are 3 times the cost a used book should be. I never leave a bookstore empty-handed but this one was so pricey, I did.
Mike put together the perfect sound system for a large outdoor wedding for us – for the officiant, for MP3 music, and for live string music. He even met me at the venue to set it all up and walk me through operating steps. The cost was very reasonable as well. MIke was extremely competent, friendly, and flexible, and I would heartily recommend North Georgia Sound to anyone.
10. Vintage Musical Instruments
Address: 42 Public Square S, Dahlonega, GA 30533 , White County , Georgia , United States
It’s the coolest shop on the square in Dahlonega GA.
Love this local shop. Unique vintage instruments for viewing.
I live in Atlanta, and I was spending the weekend close by Dahlonega, I found this shop and dropped my guitar for some adjustments, knowing it would take me a couple hours round trip to pickup again. Best decision ever, my 25 year old Takamine feels brand new again. Ken knows his stuff and is a beautiful person. Awesome experience.
I was disappointed with the repair work done on my guitar. It wasn’t a horrible job but it wasn’t a good job either.
The luthier wasn’t able to polish the frets because they didn’t have any high grit sandpaper so, I had to “polish” the frets with my strings from play wear and now my frets are “polished” very unevenly.
He seemed to do an okay job with the fret leveling and crowning but there are still some noticeable corners on about half of the fret edges and especially on the higher frets where people usually don’t play. (You can tell how he had it laid on the table because one side is relatively smooth and the other looks like it barely got any attention along with the nut which is just as sharp as before)
He also got multiple dings and scratches on my guitar neck. Which I personally don’t mind on the specific guitar I sent in, but I would be quite irritated if it happened to a higher end guitar. (It’s named ‘Rawhide’ which explains the guitar well)
So, pretty much I paid for an incomplete job where if I had the proper tools I could have done it myself and probably much better.
I’m not trying to start anything and I don’t want to get the Luthier in trouble, I just want to see quality work from the Luthier so *if* I ever bring in a higher end guitar I won’t have to sleep in fear worrying about possible damage.
My recommendation for the Luthier is if someone pays you to level, crown and polish frets, make sure you have ALL of the necessary tools and really take the time to do a good job on ALL of the frets. Also make sure to keep the guitar safe in the process.
If I had known what to expect for what I paid for, I would have pressed the Luthier to finish the job, but at the time I didn’t know what high quality frets were like.
Lastly, on an unrelated topic that really goes to personal preference, they require masks to enter the store, no exceptions. I don’t support being muzzled for a virus with a 99%+ survival rate and even 95%+ if you’re over the age of 70, where it’s so “deadly” you require a medical test just to see if you have it, and asymptomatic spread has been proven to be extremely rare, if not just another myth to keep us living in fear.
But to each their own.
Went to store this morning at ten after 11 and no one was there.
I’m very disappointed in this “business” we had taken a family heirloom to him to be repaired, he said it would take two weeks. Hey, great you got a deal. Let’s go ahead and pay for it so you will have the money on hand to pay for the parts and your time. Three weeks later we have to call and the guitar still isn’t finished. Four weeks later we call once again it’s still not done. I go to the “business” to see if it’s even been touched, and low and behold it had not. He had already told us that sales from other people come first with it being around the holidays. Wait wait so a sale that was already made gets placed last?! That was my daughter’s Christmas present as well to hear the guitar play once again that her papa had gave to her 10 years ago, then he pasted away. I will never trust this place again repairs or to buy from!
11. Ace Audio Inc
Address: 1978 US-129, Cleveland, GA 30528 , White County , Georgia , United States
After taking my vehicle to another shop and having a terrible experience I was able to find this place online. It took me 45 minutes to get there but was worth the drive in the end, not only did they correct everything the other shop screwed up but also suggested some upgrades I had them do also. My vehicles will never go anywhere else. Ace Audio gets the highest marks for customer service and quality of work. Also had them retint one of my trucks after going over a year with a subpar tint job that constantly had bubbles in it.
This shop is honest, courteous, accurate, reasonable.
They put my turn signals and horn on my side by side and did a great job.
I had some warranty work done on my Side by Side and the dealer commented on what a nice installation job the horn and turn signals were.
They installed my stereo in my truck and did a wonderful job.
You can not go wrong here.
Great service and great people
Employees were helpful and courteous
My audio system sounds exactly as I hoped it would, thank you. And, with the exception of the replacement dash kit, all the work looks good as well.
BUT…
1 – What I was told would be a one day job turned into five.
2 – My original dash kit was two tone but they would only paint the replacement one solid color.
3 – The new backup camera wasn’t aligned left to right or top to bottom.
4 – I requested a trouble shoot/repair on two cab power outlets and for the OE cassette deck to be removed/replaced with an available storage compartment. Neither happened. I was offered an apology and asked to leave my truck even longer or bring it back for the work to be completed. I declined.
Again, the sound was great but the service wasn’t and considering all things, I’d hoped for better.
Honest affordable
Purchased nearly $2,000 of custom installed audio and video equipment. The speakers provided for the audio system were cheap no-name junk and were grossly undersized. When turning up the volume all you hear is distortion and crackling. A rear back-up camera system was installed and stopped working, showing nothing but a blue screen. Tried to seek help from Ace Audio and here was their response:
“Call the manufacturer for help. If RV Cams determines that your problem is a warranty issue, you will need to provide them with your receipt of purchase and you can handle the warranty claim from here on out.
Good luck,
Stephen”
12. Jumpingoat Coffee Roasters and Tasting Room
Address: 2404 Helen Hwy, Cleveland, GA 30528 , White County , Georgia , United States
Good coffee I can’t wait to go back and try the mead!!
The coffee is delicious, the people are friendly, and the view is breathtaking! I can’t recommend this place enough!
Very reminiscent of sitting at a vineyard, this would be my hangout place. Outside overlooking the Yonah Mountain’s. Good coffee although no skim or 2% milk. Fantastic view. Good muffins and cookies. Interesting retail selection. Great parking. Also tasting a coffee and made. Very interesting place. Worth coming by for the view
Great coffee and meade, good service. My only complaint was the meade made it all the way unopened to my house in Florida when the provided bag failed and the bottle broke all over the driveway
Very nice place definitely give it a try. Inside and outside seating with a view.
Been coming to this coffee shop since last year. Great coffee, but $7 for a vanilla latte? That’s very overpriced! Also, they made me wear a mask even though I was socially distance from other customers and standing pretty far away from the register. There was absolutely no logical reason to wear a mask in this situation, but they choose to enforce it anyway. I have been traveling through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, in and out of shops, gas stations, etc., but this is the ONLY place so far that made me wear a mask. Not sure I will be returning here.
We love jumpingoat coffee however; you can have a million dollar view and great coffee, but a bad manager and terrible customer service will ruin your business! The staff at the Cleveland store will leave a bad taste on your mouth…
Our first stop and taste of jumpingoat coffee was at the Helen store, great coffee and friendly staff! We bought pretty much all flavors and the signature blend is my favorite! We later discovered the location in Cleveland with awesome views, we visited there a couple times as we own a cabin in Sautee and visit Helen few times during the year,; however, it is unfortunate that the manager they hired at the Cleveland store is a scarecrow of customers, unfriendly, with a unpleasant personality.. during our last visit in November, it was 40 degrees out, but we still wanted to drink a nice cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the views, noted we had our dog with us so we could not seat inside as the store is not pet friendly, which we understand and we prefer the outside patio due to the views… (they do allow service dogs); so off we went to the patio with our hot chocolate.. (tables and chairs are metal material which are super cold to seat on) there were about 6 tall patio heaters around the tables outside, and when we turned one of the heaters on for us and a family seated near by with a little girl that was shivering, in just couple minutes the manager came outside and asked my husband to “please shut if off!”, with a very unfriendly demeanor.. his explanation was that “we do not usually turn the heaters on” and when we asked why they had so many if they couldn’t be used? he said “the owner brought it just for an event” and when my husband mentioned the little girl was cold, the manager stated “they can come inside if they are cold”.. so I said how about us with the dog?? anyhow..we were just scratching our heads and thinking why in the world they would invest $$&$ in heaters for customers during an event but let regular clientele be out in the cold? great coffee, beautiful views, but as long as the owners have that manager at that store.. we won’t be visiting it again any time soon.. you can serve the best coffee in the world, but hospitality comes first and your business won’t thrive with unfriendly staff!
Didn’t bother to welcome me- unfriendly. Coffee over roasted and bitter. Maybe come for the view and wine, but don’t bother for the coffee. Will not be back.
Terrible service.
13. Meaders Mercantile and Antiques
Address: 2047 Helen Hwy # C, Cleveland, GA 30528 , White County , Georgia , United States
So much cute stuff!! Could have spent hours looking around!!
A good amount of vintage booths with some nice kitchenware at reasonable prices
Very interesting vintage items here. Enjoyed it
Ok
Not bad. Just nothing for me.
Great place to visit and the owner is hilarious.
This place was a little rougher around the edges but I was still able find a few interesting things. Not overly large as it appears on the outside but if you’re interested in more rustic things, may be worth a visit.
Traveled a good way to visit a few antique stores in the North Georgia area. Stopping at this one was a waste of time. If you like cheap yard sale and flea market items that are way over priced, this is the place for you. Only a handful of tasteful items. We will definitely be skipping over this market next visit. Also the cashier (young man) was very unfriendly as well.
Wanted a pedal where the price doesn’t fluctuate. I got it shipped to me in 2 days and saved $20(+) on taxes and shipping.
Just as described and got some free picks too. Thank You cool guitar guys at Cool Guitar Shop.
Just received the Dr. Robert pedal I ordered. Delivery was fast and the communication from Rod was as good as it gets. I’ll be doing more business with Cool Guitar Shop for sure!
I inherited a Martin,6 string DMX,from my oldest brother,He converted it from R/H to L/H,modifying Bridge properly,filling in r/h angle saddle,to l/h angle saddle,anthem pickup system.put fretdots on top of neck,
Intonation great!plus new pickguard on other side of soundhole.did a great job.effi cient, completly satisfied!
First off Allen is a great guy in general and is very quick to respond to any questions you may have. He builds some of the finest acoustic guitars I’ve seen and played! He does quality work at a fair price and I couldn’t be happier with the work he’s done for me! He may be a little farther out for some of us as he’s about 1.5hrs from me but it’s well worth the drive!!
Really good guitar techs are hard to find, I’m 52 years old and have played guitar since I was 10. These young kids at guitar center can screw your guitars up, this guy can fix them. First class experienced luthier and friendly guy
16. The Maelstrom Studio
Address: 8457 Skitts Mountain Rd, Clermont, GA 30527 , White County , Georgia , United States
By far the best recording experience I have had. The equipment is out of this world, everything you need to make amazing music.
Great place to record!
These guys are the best. What we have accomplished together in the studio is nothing short of pure magic. Great gear, great engineers/producers, and flexible.
17. Walmart Supercenter
Address: 260 Donald E Thurmond Pkwy, Cleveland, GA 30528 , White County , Georgia , United States
Good selections. Had things I didn’t think that they had.
Okay
As always very busy not enough open registers
Would’ve been 5 stars, IF checkout lines were shorter!
This review is based on Walmart’s policies NOT CLEVELAND WALMART EMPLOYEES all the employees “try” to be very helpful and personable. Try is in quotations because they can only be as helpful as the policy allows them to be. In my case, for today it was a huge let down of wasted time.
I forgot my card at home but did not realize this until I had completely checked out and all of my groceries were neatly bagged in my reusable shopping bags. I had two bags of frozen stuff (that was partially already thawed due to freezer issues), along with many other cold/grocery items. I asked the employees if they could PLEASE just put my cold stuff in a refrigerated room so I could run home and come right back AND NOT HAVE TO DO MY $200 worth of grocery shopping all over again. I asked the cashier, the cashier asked the CSM, the CSM asked someone else and the verdict was no, because it is against their policy to do that.
They were out of stock of most of the things I wanted, like butter, tea, corn and Tylenol. Very dissatisfied and disappointed!
We were just there 2 days ago. I would have to say that was the worst i have ever seen a walmart. Shelves empty. Try to get my wife a electric wheelchair but they were dead so I had to walk her back to the car. I went back in and saw electric chairs sitting in different parts of the store dead and just sitting . I will never stop at that one.
Just recieved a Gibson t-shirt from Megatone. Very fast shipping and they were so kind to also provide a business card. Great place!
WOW!!!!
I couldn’t believe how much stock Megatone has in store!!!! Friendly and knowledgeable staff with a huge selection. Prices are a bit higher than I expected, but we are out in the country. Give them a visit
Store is awesome great customer service and killer selection!
Dealt with these people on reverb. They ignored my messages, refused a refund twice, once before it had shipped out because the dimensions weren’t right to fit on my guitar. Then after no response for months, I posted on their facebook and they deleted my post. These people are scammers and deceivers. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.
